Going Under: Discussions on Baptism

Rate this book
My hope is that this little book informs both believers and non-believers about the first act of Christian obedience. Not only will those awaiting baptism find it instructive, but mature believers will also be trained by it, and will find it a helpful tool to distribute. Many think they are true Christians merely because they were sprinkled as a baby, or were taught that baptism was essential for their salvation. They could be helped by this book. It has been my experience that believers also understand far too little about this vital subject. To my knowledge, I've never spoken on the subject of baptism without having the privilege of baptizing some who've heard those truths. We must say more about it. I hope Going Under becomes an important tool for you both to gain understanding and to get this truth out to others.

Want a book that cover the topic of baptism? This book covers a biblical view of baptism. The book is authored by Jim Elliff whom I have never heard of before. He is an author, speaker of president of a worldwide ministry. This book was helpful for me as I was preparing to teach on a short series on baptism. I am glad I read this book.
After the introduction to the book there are five “discussions” that are essentially five chapters. This is followed by two appendices. The first discussion cover “Believers or Babies?” and the author argue for believers’ baptism. The second discussion is on whether baptism should be administered by sprinkling or immersion. Third is whether baptism saves or it’s a symbol and the next discussion is on “Refashion or New?” The fifth discussion is on who should do the baptism. The first appendix cover principles with dealing with religious groups that try to use the Bible to argue that baptism saves. The final appendix presents readers with historical quotes concerning the mode and subject of baptism.
I know I can grow more in the topic of baptism and realized I haven’t read a book that is just only devoted to baptism; there’s books I have read in the past that have covered things with church and have mentioned baptism but this is the first book on the singular topic of baptism. I found this helpful and I do recommend it.
