This book has a different feel to it. Freya doesn’t seem as commanding and towards the end I was looking for the body snatchers! This one is truly a team effort and we bounce from team member to team member with the chapters. It starts out so annoying…Freya and Ben moving into the new house and she is just such a wench to him. I swear it’s like they don’t even like each other. Then we get into work and Gillespie and Cruz are at it again and it’s just so annoying. I had really hoped we’d turned a corner on that BS. As successful as the team has been they are the most dysfunctional group of people. I swear the only one I truly like and admire is Chapman!

I clued into the killer before Freya and the team did. To me it was obvious from the point the character was introduced. The denouement scene is clever and well played by the person who sets it in motion. An interesting risk on that person’s part assuming the cops would figure it out and be there at the right moment. But it was one of the more clever denouement scenes I’ve read in a while.

But then gradually I feel like we’ve moved into a parallel universe! The case is convoluted, Freya is hesitant and unsure, Gillespie seems most on the ball. There’s not as much of the sniping and more team work and cooperation. Towards the end I was trying to figure out what came over Freya. I’m wondering if this is a personal epiphany and we’ll see structural change in future books or if this was a one off. We’ll see what the next book holds I guess.

This was another great British crime drama with Freya, Ben and team and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A body is found in a shallow grave and there begins a mystery with a collection of characters, some familiar, others new, where all suited the twisty plot.

I liked the relationships between the team, but how poor Cruz survives the ribbing, I don't know. Though Gillespie is an annoying character, he can be funny.

Well-written, engaging and entertaining.

Another good book in this series set in the Lincolnshire fens. Freya and Ben now have a cottage together in Metheringham and are in the process of moving in when the call comes through. All the characters in the team are good and well rounded, but throughout the book I noticed that Freya's character was changing becoming softer and more empathic. Good move Mr, Cartwright

As usual Jack Cartwright keeps you spellbound and unable to put the book down. Just sorry the story’s aren’t longer. Can’t wait for next time - hope not quite as long please

Another great story! This one had a bit more of Ben and Freud's personal relationship in it than some of the last few. I wouldn't mind seeing even more in the books to come.
