The Community of the Gentrified God: Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Visible Ecclesiology and Its Import for the North American Church's Response to Gentrification
This book explores the implications of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s visible ecclesiology for the North American Church’s visible witness in the context of gentrification. The book begins by presenting Bonhoeffer’s visible ecclesiology in his earlier and later writings. Then, it examines evidence of the Evangelical Church’s invisibility through its participation in the gentrification process in cities across North America. Finally, Bonhoeffer’s visible ecclesiology is applied to the situation of gentrification in North America as a way to think through how the church’s identity rooted in the visible, incarnate God calls the church to live as a visible witness in the context of a gentrifying neighborhood.
