Her Advantage

Rating: ☆☆☆☆
George is an absolute sweetheart with a crappy support system when he is going through a difficult period of time and he has to do what he dislikes the most and communicate with Leo. Leo is the biggest tennis fan ever and has idolised George for as long as she can remember, until she met him and realised that he is everything the media paints him to be!
I went into this book knowing absolutely nothing and very little interest in tennis, i’ve finished this book being fully invested in tennis and a new tennis ball jellycat! I absolutely love a sports romance but i never venture outside of hockey romance so i absolutely loved the change.
I really enjoyed this book, i loved the chemistry between George and Leo. I liked most of the characters apart from 2 if you know you know! I loved the character growth with George i was so proud of him by the end and smiling from ear to ear! I loved how Leo brought the best out of him. Honestly i were so mad at Gordon i could’ve screamed multiple times.
This book were a never meet your heroes and i wish the enemies lasted just a little bit longer as i’m a sucker for enemies to lovers. I just wish there were more of them!

I loved this book from start to finish! Spicy romances can often be too spicy taking away from the story but this had the perfect balance. I also loved the tennis setting! Really hope this becomes a series… surely we need to find love for Jack and Rosa?!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and Hannah Bicknell for my early access edition to this book.
I initially started reading this book on holiday and then ended up putting it down. I'm not the biggest fan of tennis but I do enjoy sports romance so I thought I'd give it a go. I liked the story line and the characters. Yet, I seemed to almost immediately forget this book. When I picked it back up, and started reading from the beginning, I realised that I had already read part of it. Saying that, this could have also just been a me thing.
Aside from that I enjoyed the spiciness of the book, Leo as a character herself was enjoyable. I liked Josh and Rosa and I hope there will be a spin off for them. Given that it is a fictional book we can forgive the immediate I love yous. All in all, the second time I finished the book in one go and thoroughly enjoyed the variety of characters and character development that ensued.

Enjoyable for all whether you love tennis or not. A fast paced romance book that you won’t be able to put down with hugely likeable main characters.

So sweet!
I got this on kindle unlimited so it’s definitely published there. Also called ‘On the game’ - not sure why it’s got a different title on there.

Not my cup of tea at all…
The romance was VERY fast paced and not built up whatsoever. It started really nice and interesting, and liked the fact that Leo set boundaries, but one day she hated him and the next day well you know... 70% of the book is them being intimate- go for it if that is your thing.
I just don’t like the fact that he treated her like trash when they first met, but forgot about it, got obsessed with her only because she was pretty and all was forgiven- I know they talked about later but still…
They had good ish communication, like George opening up to Leo about his traumas, but how they fought because of a stupid miscommunication actually ruined the instant connection they had.
George’s brother is disgustingly trash, felt really really bad for the ex girlfriend of George and for Leo too.
I think it’s an easy read, some areas are quite lovely and there is some chemistry between Leo and George. I wish the tennis part was explored more as it was really interesting, I think love a sports is a really interesting mix!

Enjoyable, cheesy romance story. Quite spicy in places, which isn’t my cup of tea but I just skipped those bits 😂

Probably the spiciest book i’ve ever read! Some elements moved too fast - very much an insta love as soon as they touched down at the tournament, the end felt rushed and I didn’t like the time jumps.
The third act conflict made sense (but I wasn’t the biggest fan of it being a miscommunication trope) but I almost could have enjoyed the story more without it. The supporting cast was great and I hope we hear more about their friends!
Loved how the ex-girlfriend wasn’t made out to be a villain / bad person.
But yes this was spiciest of the spice… honestly I was going to scream if he didn’t stop touching her soon, or if I read that his cock twitched one more time!

You know how they say "never meet your heroes"?
Well, Leo James wishes she hadn't. As a lifelong tennis lover, she's had a crush on tennis star George Hampden for years. Watching his matches, following his off-court life, and hoping she might bump into him one day. But when that day finally comes, Leo James decides she's done with him. He's rude, aloof and cold-hearted, and she's over it.
Leo decides to put all her energy into her work, as Director of Experiences at a company that offers luxury concierge services to the rich and famous. Called into a meeting one morning, her idiot of a boss informs Leo that she'll be stepping back into her old role and looking after their new ambassador, George Hampden.
Although the 'enemies' stage of this enemies-to-lovers trope doesn't last very long and the book is relatively short and easy to fly through if it's your sort of vibe, it kinda works well.
Leo and George don't have much time to get to know each other before they're whisked off to Paris, as George is playing at the French Open and it's Leo's job to run around after him, making sure he's attending events or visiting art galleries and eating at nice restaurants. All of this quickly brings the pair together.
Aside from these two main characters, there are quite a few others that really bring the story together and help us understand what Leo and George are going through and now they navigate their new relationship. There is definitely scope for a sequel or spin-off!
I enjoyed reading this book while Wimbledon was on, and Hannah's love of tennis and Western books is really apparent. I think what worked really well was the mental-health aspect woven throughout the story, showing that "it's okay not to be okay" and you really need to learn to have good people around you, no matter what you're going through.
There is quite a lot of spice to this book, but as I don't like reading it #sorrynotsorry I mostly skipped over those parts.
Overall, a fun, easy romance to read, especially if you love tennis and the enemies-to-lovers trope.

Okay, a little storytime before the review:
One day, during my vacation in London, I was sitting in a chair in a Waterstones because my feet hurt after walking too much, when I overheard a conversation between the author and an employee. She came to see her book, which was on display a few days before the release date, and wanted to sign some copies. I’m wayyyy too shy, so I just waited until they left to find the book. I like sports romance books, and one of my favorite sports is tennis. So, it’s right up my alley! The author seemed so kind, and she was with a friend who was so supportive! I think I couldn’t help but listen because the entire moment was just too cute. The author signing her first book, and her friend taking pictures and just being really happy for her. It’s one of those awesome moments you can’t help but admire, even from afar.
Anyways, now to the review: 3.50 ⭐️
The chemistry between the two main characters was well written, but everything happened too early and too fast, in my opinion. There were definitely some chapters where everything just stalled. But there was depth to their story. It wasn’t just another romance book. It talked about anxiety and feeling immense pressure to be perfect, about family dynamics, etc.
I think it went too fast, but it might just be because of my reading preferences.
I loved George’s character growth and Leo’s personality. They were well written as well, and I liked how supportive they were of each other.
And the third-act conflict actually made sense here, even if it was a little predictable.
I also really liked the setting. I live in Paris where the story is set, and even though most places they went to aren’t really where I spend my time (no, I can’t afford The Ritz), they were well described and generally felt accurate.
Overall, it was a pretty good debut novel. It was a fun read (and more spicy than I thought it would be! the cuter the cover, the spicier, I guess). I recommend it!

This is a book that would have really benefited from a higher page count. The whole premise is built on the classic "never meet your heroes" trope, but if it had more pages, there would have been a stronger foundation for the hatred and we'd get more time in the actual "enemies" phase. I think it's totally fair for people in real life to go through rough patches and act like total jerks, but in fiction? Not so much—especially when it's a guy (and I say this as a guy myself, lol). Once the hate settles, we get to know the other characters. They’re super cute and have some really fun moments—especially the ones involving the books Leo loves to read. Plus, all the tennis-related elements were incredibly cool. I was really rooting for Leo’s arc of realizing she’s actually great at tennis and deciding to go for it. And seeing how she dealt with CeCe at the end was super satisfying, even if it happened a bit too quickly. As for the third-act conflict... seriously, why is this still a mandatory trope in romance? That said, it actually made sense here. They’d only known each other for a few days, so the lack of trust felt realistic. I do think Gordon’s character needed more development, though. His motivations and actions felt pretty one-dimensional. Still, it was a very cozy, fun read—totally worthy of a Prime Video movie adaptation.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the e-ARC!

This book was such a fun escape into the world of tennis, luxury, and swoony romance! Leo and George were such a fun pair to follow. Their relationship starts with plenty of hate to love tension, but watching their first impressions change and seeing them slowly open up to each other had me kicking my feet. Their banter, chemistry, and the way they supported each other made their romance feel genuine. They were both strong and determined, but also had softer, more vulnerable sides. The dual POV made the story even better because I got to see both of them falling for each other.
Add in gorgeous locations, luxury vibes, and some very spicy spice and you’ve got the perfect summer read. And that ending was absolutely adorable, I just wished the book had a few more chapters cause I wasn't ready to leave these characters behind. I'm also very curious about Rosa and Jack!!! I hope they get their own story.

OK, I went into this a little jaded because tennis romance can feel a little hit or miss and I'd just read a really good one. So I was thinking that this would be a flop. The start wasn't great with Leo having some weird job that I'd never heard of but Leo's love for tennis started to shine through and the book got better. Poor George, after you get to know him, he really is a nice guy. I think the whole thing around the first meeting dragged on a little too long. However, Gordon was just the worst! A great villain of the story. I was so glad when he was fired. This book is an unexpected surprise and I really enjoyed it.

Here's the thing about unnecessary 3rd act conflict... i hate them to my core.
The way the miscommunication could have be handled with just a confrontation is just absurd. This is actually pretty sad because I love George's growth throughout the entirety of the book and how Leo was his anchor but, that 3rd act conflict took everything away from me. It was so frustrating for me to just witness 2 adults not being so childish and his brother low-key got away with what he did? This could have been a 4⭐️ ngl.

Audiobook review- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What do you do when you’re ill during Wimbledon? You listen to the new tennis romance book Her Advantage by debut author Hannah Bicknell.
I inhaled this book in less than 24 hours. Through Hannah’s assured and passionate writing I was transported into the world of professional tennis and all the highs and lows of that world.
The reader joins Leo and George as they travel to Paris for the two weeks at the French Open at Roland Garros. Set in the background drop of my favourite city I was able to imagine being there and picture the places visited as well as adding a few more to my list for future visits. Hannah’s obvious love for the game of tennis shone through in her assured writing and the skill of playing tennis at the top level was easy for the reader to digest. If I could I’d be off to book tennis lessons tomorrow with hunky tennis coach Jack!
As a western rider I also loved the author’s nod to the western world throughout the book and the fictional Red Hot Ranch book definitely sounds like one I’d pick up.
I really enjoyed the journey the characters of Leo and George went on and how the mental health side of sport and pressure to succeed was discussed. These subjects were tackled head on but with compassion, empathy and insight.
The spice was hot but was an added condiment to the main story and rather than being the whole story. What I thought was going to be a fluffy sport’s romance story was so much more and I loved every minute of it.
The two narrators were new to me but were absolutely perfect for the two main characters. They didn’t just read the story, they performed it. They brought the characters and story alive and took me through every emotion felt by our characters. Their performances were just superb.
I honestly can’t believe this was Hannah’s first book and I really hope that there are plenty more books to follow in the series. I am now a Hannah Bicknell fan and will instantly reading future books the minute they are released.

Great read, the story of Leo and George. I liked how it was told from both points of view, and the setting in Paris.

Her Advantage was an engaging, spicy sports romance that completely immersed me in the world of professional tennis. As a huge tennis fan, one of my favorite aspects of the book was how authentically the sport was portrayed. It’s obvious that Hannah Bicknell has a genuine love for tennis, and that passion shines through in everything from the tournament atmosphere to the terminology and the emotional highs and lows of life on tour.
My favorite part of the story was the setting. Beginning at Roland Garros, I loved the backdrop of Paris. The descriptions of the city’s art, museums, and unmistakable atmosphere made those scenes feel vivid and added so much to the story. As the tour moved to Wimbledon, the atmosphere shifted beautifully. The famous grounds, the manicured gardens, and, of course, the iconic strawberries made it easy to picture every scene and brought the tournament to life.
I also loved following the pressure of the professional tour. The excitement of the wins, the disappointment of the losses, and the relentless mental and physical demands of competing at the highest level felt authentic and added emotional depth beyond the romance.
Leo and George had fantastic chemistry, and I enjoyed watching their relationship evolve from misunderstandings and tension into something much deeper. Their forced proximity created plenty of banter and romantic tension, while the dual POVs gave a great look into both of their journeys. I especially appreciated the personal growth they each experienced. Watching both Leo and George learn to stand up for themselves, confront their own fears, and grow as individuals made their relationship feel even more rewarding.
The story also touches on anxiety, family expectations, and the pressures of elite sport, adding depth without overshadowing the romance.
Overall, Her Advantage is a captivating sports romance with sizzling chemistry, authentic tennis, memorable settings, and characters you can’t help but root for. If you enjoy sports romances, enemies-to-lovers tension, forced proximity, and stories set against the unforgettable backdrops of Roland Garros, Paris, and Wimbledon, this is definitely one to pick up.

A spicy summer read with a tennis theme and enemies-to-lovers trope, this is an easy read with investable characters, glamorous romance and a dangerous antagonist. Leo and George were both likeable characters and both people pleasers, and they did frustrate me. The romance is hot and emotional as the couple work through the many conflicts, both external and internal, to find their happiness. It's perfect summer reading full of conflict, glamour, passion and romance.

revised (2.75) LITERALLY VIBES: 🎾🇬🇧🍾📸🤍This was such a fun read.
Set against the backdrop of Wimbledon, London, Paris, and the professional tennis world, Her Advantage completely swept me up. You can tell the author has a real passion for tennis because every part of it felt authentic, from the terminology to the atmosphere surrounding the matches. I don’t know a huge amount about tennis myself, but it genuinely felt like I was getting a glimpse into that world.
Leo (Leonora) and George were so cute together. At least from Leo’s perspective, they definitely started out as enemies. George initially came across as this very polished, privileged, slightly pompous English tennis star, and I loved watching those first impressions slowly unravel as the story progressed.
Leo works in PR and is assigned to work with George, which meant plenty of forced proximity and tension right from the beginning. Their dynamic was one of my favourite parts of the book. There was banter, chemistry, and enough frustration between them to keep things entertaining.
And yes… the spice was very much appreciated 👀
I feel like I’ve read a lot of books recently that focused more on emotional tension than physical chemistry, so this was a fun change of pace. The romance felt natural, and I loved watching them slowly fall for each other while travelling and spending more time together.
The ending was so sweet. I loved the way George ultimately expressed his feelings, and even though there was a little bit of miscommunication towards the end, it never became frustrating for me. It just made the payoff even better.
I’m also very intrigued by Rosa and Charlie. Maybe I’m reading too much into the little crumbs we were given, but I definitely found myself wondering if there’s a future story there. I need answers.
The only thing that stopped this from being a higher rating for me is something that’s entirely personal to my reading taste. At around 300 pages, I just wanted more time with these characters. I tend to connect most deeply with romances that sit closer to the 400–500 page mark because I love getting completely immersed in the relationship. I still really enjoyed Leo and George, but I think a little more page time would have made me fall even harder for them.
Overall, this was a cute, easy-to-read romance with a fantastic setting, great chemistry, and plenty of tennis. If you love sports romances, forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers vibes, and a Wimbledon backdrop, I’d definitely recommend picking this one up.

I went into this not caring about tennis at all… and came out fully invested. So that already says a lot.
Setting: surprisingly immersive.
It’s very tennis focused, but never in a way that feels exclusive or hard to follow. You don’t need to know the sport to understand what’s going on, which I really appreciated.
Writing: easy to get into.
Dual first-person POV (Leo & George), which I always love because you’re not left guessing how either of them feel.
It wasn’t completely unputdownable for me, but I was interested the whole time. A steady “I’ll just read one more chapter” kind of book.
Tropes: done right.
There’s a hint of miscommunication and an enemies to lovers vibe.
Normally, miscommunication drives me insane, but this felt balanced. Not overdone, not frustrating, just enough tension.
Characters: strong.
Leo is confident, capable, and not a pushover. Very easy to root for.
George has a lot more depth than you expect, especially emotionally.
Jack? No notes.
Some side characters didn’t hit as hard as I wanted, but overall, a solid cast.
Romance: the highlight.
The chemistry felt real.
Their dynamic had that “love bubble” feeling where you just want to stay in their scenes longer.
Slow burn, but the right kind. Enough tension to keep you hooked without dragging.
Ending: good… just not perfect.
It was satisfying and made sense for the characters, but I wanted a tiny bit more. Something extra to push it into five-star territory.
Quick take:
✨ An easy, engaging romance with great chemistry, strong characters, and a sports setting that’s accessible even if you don’t care about tennis. Not quite a five-star read for me, but very close. ✨

It’s been a long time since I read a book in a few hours and HER ADVANTAGE was it!! I dove jnto this book! I loved the dual POvs between Leonara aka Leo and George, an all-star pro tennis player. The last book I read about tennis was ‘Carrie Soto Is Back’ and despite them being totally different, I felt the pure admiration and love of tennis written in both books.
As an athlete myself it was wonderful being in George’s head, and understanding some of what he went through. Enter Leo and he’s completely head over heels for her! I liked how their relationship started out from misunderstanding and slowly grew into something more. I wish there were more conflict written into the novel, but otherwise, it’s an interesting and ambitious debut filled with spice and longing.
I enjoyed how the MMC was 30, so was the FMC which evened things out between them. The plot was quick and sometimes made me think of those whirlwind romance you see in films. References to classic romcoms like Pretty Woman and Nottinghill were nicely woven into the plot, together with mental health awareness such as anxiety and family issues.
Her Advantage became a five star read to me when George started to realize his struggles and I admired him for standing up for himself and those he cares about. As for Leo’s character development, I liked how she stood up for herself too, guiding George and just being a completely selfless individual.
I wish the ending was longer, and hoped for another epilogue! Overall, I hope there are more books set in this world!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary copy of this book.
This was a fun and enjoyable read overall, especially if you love sports romances, but unfortunately it didn’t completely work for me in the way I hoped it would.
One of the strongest aspects of the book was definitely the tennis setting. Even when I wasn’t fully invested in the romance, I still enjoyed spending time in that world.
That said, my main issue was with the pacing of the relationship. Everything felt a little too rushed for me, especially emotionally. The book seems to set up an enemies-to-lovers dynamic at first, but I never fully felt the transition happen. One moment there’s tension and resistance, and the next it suddenly feels like they’re deeply in love.
Because of that, I struggled to connect with the romance as much as I wanted to. I usually love tension and emotional build-up, and here I think I needed more time with the characters before the feelings developed. At times it leaned more into insta-love than enemies-to-lovers for me.
Still, this wasn’t a bad read at all; it was entertaining, easy to get through, and the tennis backdrop made it stand out. I just wish the romance had been given a little more room to breathe.

Slightly biased as I’m lucky enough to call Hannah a friend and I am in awe of her. But I loved this enemies to lovers read - immersed in the worlds of tennis and luxury concierge. Leo and George are wonderful characters. I was instantly in their world and I want to be friends with Jack. It’s spicy and luxurious (the good side of luxury 😉). Wonderfully paced, smart in the way it addresses mental health issues and has happy little nods to pop culture along the way (Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, Cowboy romance reads). The perfect summer read. Bravo Hannah!
