Love reading about Pitchfork county, wouldn’t want to visit though. This is my second read in this series and there’s been something truly creepy in both of them so I’m a big fan!

Ghost Hunters is a horror novella and part two of the Pitchfork County series.
After reading Half-Made Girls (#1 in the series), I thought Joe had taken care of just about everything. Not so.
This story starts out with a ghost hunting crew showing up in Pitchfork County wanting to be taken to the farm where Joe had taken care of the ghouls. Dick was the leader of the group and after his contact, Nancy, tells him she doesn't want anything to do with this, he forces her and her sister, Liz.
Dick has some issues that propels him into doing this and quite frankly, he really did live up to his name. He knows it's dangerous and he knows the rest of the crew doesn't want to go into this tunnel but greed, his desire to show people that he can do this, and his wanton desire for fame keeps him going.
It's a Pitchfork County story so you can count on grisly beings and blood being spilled. It's much shorter than Half-Made Girls and moves fast with an intriguing plot and a surprise ending.

I received this free book from the link inside the author's first book (Half-Made Girls).
From the very first page, Sam Witt's "Ghost Hunters" takes off at a frantic pace. The reader is pulled into the story, trapped, almost as if we don't read fast enough we will be grabbed by one of Witt's things-that-go-bump-in-the-night.
There is not time for the author to drag us down into the darkness that laced "Half-Made Girls." Witt contents himself with scaring the life out of us with this horror novella he has created. It took me about an hour to read, and I was glad I had the time to read it cover to cover at one sitting.
This horror story stands on its own, though it seems that Witt has plans for the monsters to reappear in a future book. Whether he does or not, this is an excellent story, a fun, scary tale that may cause you to sleep with the lights on. Five stars.

I had never read anything by Sam Witt before. This was a short book and very enjoyable. Sure didn't see where this was heading. Starting Witch Hunt tonight.

Good horror and a compelling story. I now want to read more of the Pitchfork County series.

Set in the same county but does not include the night marshall or his family. A 2.5 / 5. The main series is slightly better with more character development, but this is only a novella.

Sam Witt’s Ghost Hunters is a brief novella that takes place in his “Pitchfork County” setting. Dick is at the end of his rope. He bankrupted himself (and with their personal information, the rest of his crew, too, though they don’t know that yet) trying to put together a TV show about ghost hunters, but each of his pilots gets rejected. This one is his last chance. A contact of his sent him to Pitchfork County, where the events of book one were quite explosive yet failed to wipe out all the evil in the county (as though that’s even possible). Dick further compounds his dickishness by taking two waitresses at gunpoint–Nancy and Liz–and forcing them to show him where the ‘bad place’ is. In the process, he ends up telling his crew what he’s done to their finances, leaving them ready to kill him themselves.
The rest of the novella is a short story in which Dick gets exactly what’s coming to him–but so do a bunch of people who maybe didn’t deserve it so much. There’s some predictability to it, because you know all these people are going to find something more than what they’re looking for and that they’ll regret it. But the fun is always in seeing how it happens and who gets it. So it’s short, it doesn’t break a lot of new ground, but it’s still a great read. Witt is fantastic at writing up bloody, extensive combat scenes, so there’s plenty of meat to this story.

I downloaded Half-Made Girls from BookBub and was immediately hooked on the series. After purchasing and reading the remaining books, I was not disappointed. The books are scary and have strange backwoodsy monsters, but deal with some very real life situations along the way such as greed, loyalty, fear and the need to protect family.
Ghost Hunters is the shortest book and was easily read in about an hour. I keep looking for more from Sam Witt as I truly enjoyed the Pitchfork County books. 4.8/5🌟

Great, quick novella that follows would be ghost hunters into Pitchfork County. As with Half-Made Girls, this is a dark story, which I love. Great ending, possibly setting up a future book at some time. I will be grabbing the next novel in the series. Well done Sam!
