Still Falling for You

Expected 26 Jan 27
The Fall Guy meets Ava Wilder’s Will They or Won’t They in Isabelle Engel’s new action-packed rom-com about two stunt doubles with a complicated history who discover that love might be the most dangerous fall of all.

It’s been three years since stunt double Mavis Stilton traded punches (and kisses) with hotheaded stuntman Fox Wildwood. After their whirlwind romance ended in a devastating breakup and near-fatal accident, Mavis left stunts behind for good.

When A-list actress Vanessa Watkins offers Mavis the chance for a comeback doing stunts on a Wild West vampire movie, she jumps at it, desperate to win back the life of adventure she set aside. The only catch? Fox is the stunt double for the male lead, forcing Mavis to face the danger of working with him again.

After several on-set mishaps, Mavis and Fox start to suspect that someone is trying to sabotage the production. With the future of the project on the line and the stunts ramping up in difficulty, the two must begrudgingly work together to save the film—and their careers—before someone falls head over heels . . . literally.

Still Falling for You is a second-chance, enemies-to-lovers romance packed with adrenaline, twists, turns, and sizzling chemistry.

As a reader that has been a massive fan of Romance and its many sub-genres for years I’ve found myself desperately craving a new-to-me premise to explore which is exactly what Still Falling for You by author Isabelle Engel provided. I had yet to stumble across a love story story centring around two people working as stunt performers in the film industry and I already know that I’m going to be desperately on the hunt for more like this in the future. Add in the fact that it’s second chance romance with some ‘forbidden’ elements sprinkled in there? Immediately sold. I had so much fun with the action-packed scenes that followed our two main characters do what they do best. It added so much tension and action to an otherwise endearing romance filled with angst and yearning. You can really feel the passion and commitment to researching that went into building the careers of our main cast of characters in the way it read as if I was watching it all unfold in-person. The dialogue centring around the imbalance to be found for women working within male-dominated industries alongside the unfair biases and expectations they are expected to meet felt really compelling to understand. The ‘sabotage’ storyline was really interesting that I wished had been more focal throughout as it seemed to take a backseat despite the real-life threat it possessed to the actors and stunt performers? The story itself reads really quick with the pacing feeling exactly right, so it’s no surprise that I devoured Still Falling for You in two sittings with hopes to read more by this author in the future.

Mavis Stilton felt like a deeply complex character to get to the bottom of in the way that she is shown to struggle with the aftermath of her traumatic accident and desperately clings onto her independence in a way that suggests she believes asking for help will make her weak. Mavis demonstrates indicators that she is battling PTSD and it broke my heart to see how few people she seemed to have in her corner when her performance was affected as a result. Her family name and legacy has resulted in the heavy weight of burden and expectation sinking into her shoulders and one of the biggest highlights for me was her friendship with her celebrity counterpart, Vanessa. I loved getting to explore that connection in the way that they have essentially grown together in an industry that will always look out for itself first above all else. Vanessa is one of the very few people that refused to give up on Mavis and continued to prove that she will not be pushed out of her life. I respected Mavis’s work ethic and drive whilst equally feeling concern in the way she fought to push back her own boundaries in an attempt to avoid failure. She isn’t shown to be an outwardly emotional person but there’s no denying that Mavis feels deeply and struggles to express them. I loved watching her confidence grow within herself as she gradually remembers not only why she loves her career, but also why in her capability of performing it. Her journey is far from linear as Mavis continues to partake in emotional self-sabotage when her fears of the unknown take root and I have found that (as much as I loved her) she is definitely a character that can test your patience and capacity for understanding. Mavis is messy, flawed and so innately human that you can help but empathise and relate to her struggles even if you haven’t experienced them for yourself. Her story feels impactful and intentional with every decision that she makes, and there’s no denying how satisfactory it felt to watch Mavis come to the realisation that she has the power to claim the life that she wants without restriction.

Fox Wildwood is known as one of the best stuntmen in the world and carries himself with the confidence in embodiment of this truth. He’s charming and effortlessly witty in a way that puts everybody at ease around him. I really enjoyed his character and getting the ability to understand Fox as a person outside of the persona that he sometimes carries in professional settings. I was pleasantly surprised at how tender, emotional and expressive he is portrayed to be in the way that he yearns to love loudly. There’s something so intimate about seeing a fictional man embrace his feelings (there are even tears being shed) without any hints of toxic masculinity and there’s no denying that Fox is entirely unafraid to wear his heart on his sleeve. He really gives all he has into his second chance with Mavis and I loved getting to see how committed he was in proving that he is somebody that she can lean on and trust to catch her every time she falls. Fox remains thoughtful and aware of the people around him throughout and it became very clear that his way of showing care is through acts of service. I really appreciated the little insight that we are granted into his personal life and the impact that the tragic accident of the past also affected, and continues go affect, his life in the aftermath. His devotion and quiet yearning were wonderfully depicted without feeling like too much, and I especially loved how he refused to give up on Mavis no matter what. This is a character that knows what he wants and whilst the woman he loves continued to give signs that she also felt the same… nothing was stopping him from proving that she can be exactly what she deserves. I had the best time getting to experience Fox’s character and selfishly wish that this had been written in dual-POV so that I could’ve experienced the inner-workings of this man’s brain for myself.

Honestly my own complaint is I wished we could have seen a little bit more to some elements of the story. I would’ve loved to have seen a little more with both Mavis and Fox’s family as they’re emotional connections that are very important to these characters. To have seen more of the outcome to the sabotaging incident that hangs over the character’s heads for a large portion of the book. I also wouldn’t go as far to say that the ending feels ‘unsatisfactory’ because it aptly delivers that emotional punch that you spend the entire book anticipating for a happy ending. However I couldn’t help but feel like the conclusion came around rather quickly and as such, I didn’t get enough time to live in and experience the growth that Mavis in particular fights towards in the end. I just would’ve loved to have seen a more extended ending for a stronger emotional conclusion, but ultimately there’s no denying how hard-earned it still feels overall.

Engel wonderfully explores an explosive chemistry and addictive dynamic in Still Falling for You that will make you want to binge the book from the very beginning. It reads with ease with enough of an emotional bite to take you on an unpredictable ride. I definitely recommend this to all Contemporary Romance lovers, so make sure to add this to your 2027 TBR in anticipation of its January release.

Whenever I pick up an Isabelle Engel book, I know I’m in for the best of times. STILL FALLING FOR YOU is set in the world of stunt doubles—think THE FALL GUY but with more heat and kissing. Whether it’s action-packed stunt scenes, commentary on being a woman, aging, and all the risks of working in the industry, the sizzling chemistry between Fox and Mavis, the warm and wit from the large Hollywood production cast, or the trashy but entertaining sequel they’re filming, I couldn’t stop turning the pages. Incredibly bingeable, I loved it so much!

Former stuntswoman returns to the biz after thinking injury ruined her career. She has to work again with the man involved in the stunt accident AND who she formerly hooked up with, and who is now a big time star in his own right.

bisexual heroine, leading man always wanted the relationship // fell first.

the third act conflict RE felt OTT tonally for the rest of the story, otherwise a smash hit for me!

all thoughts my own, thank you to the publisher for the eARC.

3.25 ⭐️ this was an entertaining read with a plot that felt interesting and unique (to me). i loved that the MCs were stunt doubles (it’s such a fun and different setup from anything i’ve read before). the beginning was also really strong and completely pulled me into the story.

unfortunately, despite the promising premise and the fact that this book contains so many tropes (enemies-to-lovers, second-chance, forced proximity, he falls first, etc.) and story elements (action-packed romance, mystery, suspense, sabotage, etc.) i usually love, the execution ultimately fell flat for me. i wanted more character development, stronger chemistry & romance between the MCs, and more emotional depth and payoff overall. the pacing also could have been stronger, especially toward the end, which felt rushed.

overall, this was still an engaging, enjoyable, & quick read. i just finished feeling like there was so much more potential in the premise and characters that i wanted to see explored. :/

thank you so much to netgalley and st. martin's press for providing me with this arc!

I really enjoyed this romance ! I was very excited to read another book from this author since I really liked Most eligible, and this one did not disappoint. In this story, we are exploring the world of stunt actors. Mavis is asked to be back on the sequel of the movie where she had an accident. On this sequel, Fox, an other stunt actor, and a past fling, will be there. I liked to see how Mavis handled the consequences of the accident. The romance was well done, with a lot of tension between the two. There was a little mysterious intrigue and I was quite surprised at the reveal. Overall, this is a great romance story. It was very interesting for the story to be happening on a set of a movie. It was fast paced and full of actions, which I enjoyed ! I’d definitely recommend it !

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an arc of this book, opinions are my own.

Super interesting book. I loved the movie and stunt industry portrayal. I felt like I was on the set of the movie! So exciting!
Mavis and Fox were so hot together. I wish they were both little bit more mature about their relationship though. She was hot and cold. And he was trying to get her back and kept calling her while actively “doing lot of moving on”. Childish really. I’m glad they worked it out at the end.
My favorite character was actually Vanessa. I wish she had her own book.
Overall I enjoyed reading this.

Thank you for the arc

Okayyy, I see what this book was trying to do. 👀 The second-chance romance between Mavis and Fox had me curious, and the whole stunt-double setup was such a fun twist. The chemistry was definitely there, but I needed a little more from the characters to really be all in.

It was cute, entertaining, and had its moments, but unfortunately this wasn’t a “kick my feet and scream” kind of read for me. 😂 Still a solid romance, just not one that completely stole my heart.

This premise was so insanely creative — I felt like I was on the set of a movie in the middle of the action! I know that stunt doubles are well-trained, but I was still nervous for them with every stunt!

Mavis was gravely injured doing a stunt on a movie set. Fox was injured when he went after her. Did their secret relationship make them reckless on set? When they’re placed together on a new movie 3 years later, they are both “encouraged” to sign contracts agreeing to the utmost professionalism because of what happened the last time they worked together. When they get to the new set, they find that their attraction to each other hasn’t waned. WHEW. Their chemistry (when they give into it) is HOT.

Both of them hid in their own way after the initial accident — Mavis moved back home to teach riding lessons, and Fox kept working as Kerwin’s stunt double while he “moved on” while pining for Mavis. They both had a painful journey back together, and IMO they both could have used some therapy!

There was foreshadowing throughout the book to a twist at the end that I figured out but I didn’t know who the culprit would be. This was a really fun look into the life and challenges of actors and stunt performers, and I was hooked the whole time!

🎬stunt performer x stunt performer
🍿workplace romance
🎬forbidden(?) romance
🍿family legacy
🎬second chance
🍿he falls first (and harder)
🎬SO MUCH YEARNING

I was initially unsure if I would pick this up due to not typically enjoying second chance romances, but I’m so glad that I took a chance with this one based on another reviewer’s strong recommendation. Experiencing the life of a stunt double felt very fresh and had specificity that showed how well researched it was. It was the aspects of the story that shed light into being a stunt double that pulled me right in from the start and had me devouring this book in one day. This story is told through both the present and also flash backs as one might expect from a second chance romance.

Self sabotaging FMC Mavis is a very competent stunt double for an up-and-coming starlet, who struggled with PTSD and imposter syndrome after she had a near-fatal on-set accident. I appreciated the bisexual representation and a green flag moment between the MCs, when she comes out to him.

MMC Fox is her cheeky stunt double counterpart, who was not afraid to show his emotions. This second chance romance works, because the circumstances leading up to the characters drifting apart originally and going no-contact make sense on both sides rather than feeling contrived just for plot convenience to keep them apart.

While I normally don’t prefer romantic comedies, I found myself enjoying the comedic moments. There was some fun banter with great rhythm.

A lot of the story was a 4.5 for particularly when the focus was on the stunt aspect of the book. Why it netted out to a 4.25 for me included the 3rd act conflict felt out of character and like it was just there for the plot. There were other character logic issues that came up that pulled me out of the story (e.g. how people reacted to the stalker incident and not investigating it further; using a walkie talkie public channel when they could have just opened the adjacent windows of their trailers to communicate about private matters). Lastly, it felt like Mave kept resisting for the same reasons over and over again until she eventually just flipped a switch, which felt a bit sudden in spite of the accumulation of thoughtfulness, acts of service, and care demonstrated by Fox.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking for an easy to read, light, bingeworthy contemporary romance even if you aren’t a second-chance romance reader.

This book sucked me in right from the get go and held my attention for the majority of the book without letting up. I loved our main characters and would eat up any books about them or any of the secondary characters in the future.

What I loved:
•the fact that they were stunt doubles was so interesting and such a fun and unique story! It really did draw me in from page freaking one.
•The tension and the spice in this book was delicious!
•I love the imperfect nature of the characters in this book. It makes it believable and for me makes them even more likable! Seeing Mavis’ struggles post-injury really did feel real and understandable despite how much you wished things went otherwise.
•Fox freaking “why would I tell you not to fall in love with me?”Wildwood. I absolutely loved everything about this man. Would pay good money for this book from his POV.

Struggles:
•I felt like I kept waiting for something more from Mavis and Fox. Like we were told about their spark and their past instead of shown. I thought we would get more depth or a deeper look of their relationship and that never really came. There was tension and chemistry - absolutely! - but it ended up feeling like something vital to their story was missing from these pages.
•Once we got to around the 75% or so mark I felt like our FMC, Mavis, started acting a little bit out of character and that was frustrating. I’d find myself setting down the book and taking longer each time to pick it back up.
•Sometimes the risks Mavis and Fox would take (the walkie talkies and the massage tent being the two examples I’m thinking of) seemed a little unrealistic with so many people around.
•I also loathed entirely that Mavis completely ignored everything she knew about a certain character* (attempting to avoid spoiler) she trusted after one conversation with someone she barely had a relationship with. I hate when characters do this.

I just know this one will make such a captivating audiobook!

This book likely falls somewhere between a 4 & 5 star for me - rounding up because I really did have so much fun while reading it. Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for the early advanced digital copy — this book is such a gem! All opinions are my own.

"We had that kind of intense, wild, untamed, live-or-die attraction that now feels so young."

RATING: 3 stars

First and foremost, I want to thank the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book!

As a production student myself, I was super intrigued by the premise of the book. Usually we see romances between the two main actor leads, so I thought that it was super cool that this one focused on the stunt doubles who make the action magic happen. Unfortunately, I got a bit bored of the book mid-way but still pushed myself to read it. The part that kept me reading wasn't the romance, but the mystery later on in the book. I also felt like some metaphors were just thrown in to make it sound poetic and random details were thrown in with very little context. Otherwise, it was good, just too slow for me.

── ✧・゚: ✧・゚: ✦ :・゚✧:・゚✧ ───

PLOT:

Still Falling For You focuses on Mavis Stilton and Fox Wildwood, two ex-lovers who formerly worked together as the lead stunt doubles on a movie. During the filming of the first movie, a nearly fatal accident left Mavis traumatized, leading to her quitting stunting for good. That was, until she was invited back for the sequel years later. Now, not only does she have to go back to the source of her trauma, but she has to face the person who she blamed for it: Fox Wildwood.

CHARACTERS:

Mavis Stilton:

I really liked Mavis. I wish we heard a bit more about her family life and the death of her mother. Even when she swore to quit, her heart was still dedicated to stunting (and Fox too). Some of her background details seemed to be thrown around at random though, like her bisexuality. It was brought up at such a random time and I think it could've been incorperated and mentioned in such a smoother way. What's interesting about her is that she isn't a one dimensional character that focuses on the love interest and on them only. Throughout her narration, her panic and trauma from her past accident seeps in without needing to be directly stated. With that, the show-don't-tell is amazing.

Fox Wildwood:

Fox definitely isn't my favorite male rom-com lead of all time, but he isn't bad... just meh. He really didn't do anything for me. What I like most about him is that no matter how cold or smooth he tries to act around other people, he's still a caring human being deep down. I don't have much commentary on him than that.

This new novel coming soon from Isabelle Engel is my second book by her. I have to say, I enjoyed this one just as much as the first book of hers I read. I found this story about a stunt-double man and a stunt-double woman and their lives very intriguing. Aside from their interaction and the love story running through this book, the stunt activity was fascinating. I'd never really given too much thought to how all those stunts in the many action films I've seen and loved over the years were created and filmed.

Fox and Mavis were both on the rise in their stunt careers when a near-fatal accident causes Mavis to walk away from the life she loves and a whirlwind romance with Fox. Years later, they are reunited when Mavis is lured back to the adrenaline-filled stunt life she loved. While Fox is unable to ignore his feelings for Mavis, she is equally unable to forget her long-buried feelings for Fox. And then there's some suspicious "accidents" happening on-set. What is going on? Will the film finally get made or will the set be shut down due to those accidents? Mavis has spent years hiding and burying her feelings and pain. Fox has fought his painful feelings at losing Mavis. Now working together again, will they be able to ignore the past and do their jobs or will past feelings come roaring back forcing them to face how they truly feel about each other, once and for all?

This story was fast-paced, well-written and an easy read. It held my interest throughout. The staging of the stunts was of particular interest. It was kind of like a peak behind the scenes at movie-making which I found fascinating. It's a contemporary, enemies-to-lovers, second chance love story that had me rooting for these wonderful characters. I'm sure it will have many others rooting them on also. Don't miss it!

A cute second chance romance between 2 stunt doubles. After a life-changing accident on the job, Mavis left her job/calling as a stunt double. Years later, her celebrity double convinces her to return for one last job. Mavis comes face to face with her previous romantic relationship with fellow stuntman, Fox, and their unresolved feelings.

I really enjoyed reading about the world of stunt work. Mavis is a stunt legacy (her mom was a famous stuntwoman) in a male-dominated field. She deals with misogyny and is often dismissed by her colleagues. We see her struggle with being properly recognized by the industry and her decision to hide her relationship with Fox to prevent other people's perceptions/assumptions of her. I admired Mavis' work ethic and how she is fearless in the stunts that she is able and willing to do. She is also facing PTSD from her accident but is trying to appear strong under the scrutiny of her colleagues.

Fox is the best. There is a lot of room for insecurity with him, but he fully supports Mavis and her endeavors in the industry. And while he's hurt that Mavis doesn't want to publicly announce their relationship, Fox understands and doesn't pressure her. All he wants to do is take care of her when Mavis gets hurt or after a long, hard day and have her trust. He's an absolute sweetheart, and he's never stopped loving Mavis, even when she cut off all contact after the accident.

I loved Mavis' connection with her family and I would have loved to read more about her family of stunt people. I thought the ending was kind of abrupt and wanted a better epilogue so that we could see what Mavis and Fox decided to do with their careers.

Thank you to Isabelle Engel, St. Martin’s Griffin, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved Still Falling for You. I couldn’t put this book down and ended up reading it in less than 24 hours.

Mavis is making her comeback as a stunt double after being away from the industry for three years. Her first job back puts her on set with not one, but two of her exes, including Fox, with whom she has a complicated history. The stunt-double setting was a new and refreshing backdrop for a romance and added something different to the story.

Fox and Mavis were such a great fit, especially as a second-chance, enemies-to-lovers couple. Right off the bat, it was clear they had history, but I liked the suspense of not knowing what had happened with them three years ago. I loved their back-and-forth and witty banter, and their chemistry was so good. The slow burn gave their relationship time to develop, and I was on edge waiting for them to finally get together.

I also really enjoyed the plot beyond the romance. I didn’t know much about stunt doubles before reading this and loved learning more about that world. There was also an added layer of mystery with someone sabotaging the set, and I became completely invested in trying to figure out who was behind it. It kept me wanting to read just one more chapter.

Overall, this was such a well-written book with great characters, lots of chemistry, and a mystery that kept me hooked. There were parts where I was smiling to myself while reading and others where I was practically gasping. This was easily a five-star read for me. It was my first book by Isabelle Engel, but it definitely won’t be my last!

This almost, but not quite, worked for me. It had the makings for a fun and funny and adventurous romcom, but I don’t think we got to know the characters enough for me to really sink my teeth into the story the way I wanted to.

Right off the bat, stunt doubles’ second chance romance on a set with sabotage occurring seems to check all the boxes — some chaos, some romance, some mystery. But I think where I struggled was the romance, which was a bummer. Mavis was so guarded, but it never really felt like she had a good reason to be. Being hesitant and scared to enter a relationship is always valid, but nothing about Fox or their initial fling set off any alarm bells that seemed to give rise to her hesitation. And then once they rekindled things, it didn’t feel like there was really a good enough reason — what changed between then and now besides some physical, literal healing? It didn’t seem like she underwent enough of an emotional journey to have things go from one side to another.

Fox was fun and flirty, which I loved, but he felt a little one dimensional to me. We didn’t really get to know him beyond his surface level flirty persona, and that felt like a little bit of a letdown. Honestly, for me, the best character was Vanessa. She deserves a solo book just for being such a steadfast and loyal bestie.

I wanted to love this, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to :( I think the writing was great, and the components were there, but the romance was just missing something for me this time around.

First of all, thank you to St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this book before publication and provide an honest review. I was so excited to see this title as an option for the SMP Early Readers program!

I recommend this book if you:
🔸enjoy romantic comedies - this felt very reminiscent of the 90s and early 2000s romantic comedies that I grew up loving. Very nostalgic of the humor, tension, and chemistry without any sacrifices to a strong plot. The amount of times this made me audibly giggle was countless.
🔸enjoy second chance romances - this is a trope that I haven’t always been a big fan of, but the way the tension of the main characters history was balanced with the tension of the current onset drama was well done. I loved that we got glimpses of their history without being completely bogged down with a second timeline.

I was immediately drawn to the cover. I loved the bright colors and was intrigued by the title. The premise of a romance between stunt doubles felt so refreshing as I have never read or heard of one before!

I loved Fox from the get-go, his humor - the countless sexual innuendos and jokes - had me giggling and kicking my feet. I really enjoyed seeing how he whittled away at the walls that Mavis had built up over the years since their previous film. Mavis learning to trust others and herself was a beautiful journey that I really enjoyed reading. I was not expecting this to be so inspirational or emotional, but I really loved that aspect of it. This book definitely surprised me in a good way!

Honestly, devastated that it's over... I sense a book hangover incoming.

When choosing what came next after my previous read, I started skimming the beginning of this book to decide if I wanted to read this now or something else. When I tell you I was absolutely hooked from the very first page, I mean it. What was supposed to be a quick vibe check, became full engrossment.

Truly, there is nothing better in romance to me than a somewhat closed-off FMC and an MMC who's absolutely obsessed with her. I LOVED the dynamic between Mave and Fox!!! The banter was top notch, and I could feel their chemistry leaping off the page. I swear, I thought I was going to combust over the tension between these two. I couldn't fall asleep last night with the electricity of this book pumping through my veins, I just needed to keep reading.

The overall concept of being stunt doubles was really cool too. I found it was the perfect balance between the plot of the movie they were working on in the book, the technical elements of being on a film set / doing stunts, and the relationship developments throughout. Mave's friendship with actress Vanessa was so sweet, and even some of the smaller interactions she had with other people on set and her family were heartwarming and felt like they were giving the wounded parts of Mave a hug.

To say I recommend Still Falling for You would be an understatement. I am still just totally buzzing with the joy of reading this, and I know it's one I'll revisit in the future. Everything about this was perfection to me, I give it a million stars.

I really wanted to love Falling for You, especially because I enjoyed Isabelle Engel’s Most Eligible. One of the things I appreciated most about this book was the focus on stunt doubles. It’s not a topic I’ve come across in romance, and I thought it was an interesting and unique premise.

I also really enjoyed Mavis and Vanessa’s friendship. Their loyalty to each other was one of my favorite parts of the story, and I loved seeing the strength of their friendship throughout the book.

That said, I struggled with the pacing. At times, the story felt a little slow, while the ending felt rushed, and I would have liked more time to see everything develop naturally. I also wish we could have gotten Fox’s POV, as I think being able to understand his thoughts and feelings would have added more depth to the story and his relationship with Mavis.

I also had a difficult time connecting with Mavis as the FMC. I’m not entirely sure why, but I found myself wishing we knew more about her background and what shaped her into the person she is. Overall, I think I simply wanted more character development and more opportunities to really get to know Mavis and Fox.

While this one didn’t quite work for me the way Most Eligible did, I still appreciated the unique premise, the stunt-double storyline, and especially the friendship between Mavis and Vanessa. I’ll definitely be interested in seeing what Isabelle Engel writes next.

Still Falling for You is a second-chance romance that centers on two main characters who work as stunt doubles for two of Hollywood’s biggest actors. Three years ago, Mavis Stilton and Fox Wildwood met on the set of a movie that would become an action blockbuster, but their secret on-set romance ends when they are involved in a horrific accident that leaves them both injured in more ways than one. In the present day, the original stars want to make a sequel to the movie, and they enlist Mavis and Fox to help bring the story to life. Told through Mavis’ point of view, the reader follows her journey back to a career that she thought had left forever and back to the man whom she never planned to see again. As Mavis and Fox rekindle their professional and personal relationship, the two have to learn to trust each other and that, sometimes, falling in love feels way more dangerous than jumping from a moving train.

This book grabbed my attention from the very start. I loved the setting of a Hollywood set and the progression of the story and what the characters were supposed to be doing all felt really authentic. My largest criticism with the book comes from the sub plot of these mysterious “accidents” that happen on set and that appear to be foul play. The resolution to that sub plot felt so unrealistic and ridiculous and was rushed, in my opinion. Despite this, and the my overall underwhelming feelings towards the end, I really enjoyed this book and found it very entertaining!

Thank you St. Martin Press for the early access to this book.

This book is about a second chance romance where He falls first. The story follows Mavis and Fox, who met on the set of a movie as the movie leads Stunt doubles. When tragedy happens and Mavis pulls away from Fox, he has no choice but to move on. Or does he?

From the start this book caught my attention because I have not read any book where the MCs are stunt doubles, this brought a different take, pace, and plot to the story. While this book as categorized as a contemporary romance, I believe it goes beyond that. Mavis suffered an almost career and life ending injury and it took her 3 years to even try to get back to something she grew up loving. In addition to this, she pushed people away in order to protect herself physically and emotionally and we are taken in a journey where she is learning to be confident and trust her body to do stunts again but also where she trusts her heart to opening to the possibility of love and be loved.

This book is very inspiring and heartfelt, I did not see the plot twist coming at the end which was a great surprise. I definitely enjoyed this book and I think anyone who likes a healthy balance between a slow-burn second chance romance, plot and realistic description of the elements that make the storyline, plus a little bit of drama (plot twist) should read this book.

This was my first book by this author & I thought the premise was super unique and fun. There is a TON of information & behind the scenes details of stunts & on set life, which was a really cool detail to include.

And while I think this book had the potential for a super fun romcom, unfortunately I just didn’t really understand the FMC’s character at all.

Right off the bat we see the hostility between her & Fox, which we learn is from an on set incident with them years ago. But her anger seems so ridiculous, especially after more is explained about the situation. Why did she just shut him out? She never let him explain? He went to her time & time again & she just put up those walls. It just felt like Mavis really had no good reason to be guarded, especially with the way Fox treated her.

The 3rd act drama was immature & quite frankly stupid. Again, Mavis doubts Fox? After all she’s learned over the book about him, she thinks he would do something like that? It immediately put me off her character. It was hard for me to even cheer for her & Fox after that point.

Overall the premise is fun, but the romance just didn’t work for me here.

“Still Falling for You, A Novel”, by Isabelle Engel is a second chance romance. Mavis Stilton and Fox Wildwood are Hollywood stunt doubles. The last time they worked together, three years ago, the stunt they were doing went wrong and Mavis was severely hurt. She ended up not going back to doing stunts. Then Mavis is convinced to help with the sequel of the movie she was injured in, along with Fox. Only accidents start happening again. Will they both survive and be able to restart their relationship?

This book is filled with much angst and misunderstood feelings. The storyline is fast paced. It gives a realistic view of the behind the scenes workings on how a movie is made and the roles and experiences of stunt performers. It takes alot of guts and fearlessness to do stunts. This book showcases the men and women who work in this field. There is a surprise twist to the end of this book that I wasn’t expecting. Readers who like action packed, second chance Rom-Coms will like this book.

I wish to thank St. Martin’s Press for the complimentary eARC of this book and for selecting me to review it on NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Actually give this 4.5 ⭐️s because I’m a sucker for a second-chance romance. But OH MY GOSH. After reading the prologue, I could tell this was going to be a good story!

Having Fox and Mavis be stunt doubles with a messy history practically guarantees endless tension, and Isabelle delivers in every way possible. She gives us an action-packed, yet endearing story filled with so much angst and yearning that I couldn't help but root for a happy ending. Plus, the whole thing is set against the backdrop of a Wild West vampire movie, where mystery and intrigue surrounding on-set sabotage adds a layer of suspense to an already gripping romance.

Overall, my only thing is that I wish a few parts of the story had been developed/extended further. I really wanted more depth with Mavis and Fox’s families because they both have strong emotional connections to them. But I also would’ve loved a longer ending, especially because the sabotage storyline ends up playing a big part in the conflict and resolution between Mavis and Fox, so it would also give us more time to experience the growth in Mavis’s character.

All that being said, I still think Isabelle did such an amazing job. There’s no denying that this story had me SAT for hours on end because of how invested I was. So I highly recommend it to those of you looking for a fresh, exciting, and unique second chance romance! 🎬✨❤️‍🔥

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and Isabelle Engel for an advanced copy of Still Falling for You.

Still Falling for You was a light and enjoyable read. Enemies to lovers and second chance romance are two of my favorite tropes and the author does a good job of still making the romance seem fresh and exciting.

The novel features a unique premise - two stunt doubles reunited after years of not seeing each other, stirring up feelings neither knew they still had. These types of characters are typically featured into the background but this novel brings them to the forefront. It gives the reader a peak behind the curtain when it comes to Hollywood and movie-making, which was very interesting!

Mavis and Fox have a lot of chemistry and I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop throughout the story. Mavis' character in particular goes through a lot of development, dealing with imposter syndrome and PTSD. You can't help but root for her.

While I enjoyed this book, the ending felt a bit rushed and fell flat in comparison to my expectations. There were things I wish the author had explored more, especially when it came to the sabotage storyline and even just the main characters families. Overall, a short, easy read that I still would recommend.

Isabelle Engel’s debut book Most Eligible captured my interest last year, so I jumped at the chance to read this one. I am SO glad I did! Still Falling for You truly was like a good action movie with a romance plot, except in book form! Watching Mavis and Fox fall in love and reconnect on the set of their movie as shared stunt performers was such a treat.

I so enjoyed seeing how things changed for them over the course of the film and watching their connection grow. It’s clear that both characters carry weight from the on-set accident that pushed them apart a few years earlier. Watching Mavis and Fox combine their adrenaline-junkie natures with their real life realities brought so much entertainment and joy, even in the heavier moments between them.

This book combined the exciting action sequences with the deep romance of a second chance story. Still Falling for You kept me on my toes but never had me guessing about the connection between Mavis and Fox. The energy was high and the characters kept me engaged from start to finish!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ **4.5 STARS**

Ooohhh, it has been WAY too long since I’ve had a truly bingeable Hollywood romance—and when I say bingeable, I mean I DEVOURED THIS BOOK.😂

You know a book has you when “I’ll just read one more chapter” turns into staying up way too late because apparently sleep is optional. 🤣📖

🎬 Hollywood
💥 Action
❤️ Second chance romance
🔥 Enemies to lovers
👯‍♀️ Kickbutt besties
🎥 Behind-the-scenes movie magic

I absolutely loved getting a peek into the world of film sets and learning more about how movies are actually made. And can we give a HUGE shoutout to stunt professionals?! They risk life and limb to make our favorite movies look incredible, and I have a whole new appreciation for what they do. 👏🏼

My one little quibble was the sabotage plot. It felt like it popped in and out of the story, and then suddenly wrapped up *really* quickly at the end. I’m always going to want a little more suspense! 👀

But honestly? I still LOVED this story. It was fun, fast-paced, romantic, and completely sucked me in. Exactly the kind of book that makes you forget the time and keep turning pages. 💕🎬

I cannot get over how good this book was. I knew it would be good based on the author's last book, but I completely loved this book. It was the closest thing to Fall Guy I have ever read, which I am definitely not complaining about, because of how much I loved that movie too.

I loved the main characters in this book--while both Mavis and Fox are stunt performers, Mavis has not done a stunt job since the one that ended in a bad accident for both Mavis and Fox. This book was definitely a second chance romance--they have not seen each other in years and man the chemistry is steaming. If you love fictional men that are completely soft for their love interests, while also maintaining a lot of banter and snark, this is the book for you.

I also really liked the story itself--while it is a second chance romance, it is also a second chance for Mavis to do what she was born to do and supposedly what she loves. So, this book is about her really finding her place in the stunt world again, and maybe figuring out what suits her best in that, even if it is not exactly following in the footsteps of her mother and brothers.

I was looking forward to reading this book for the romance and mystery element, and was curious to learn a bit about the world of stunts, which is almost hidden away by design. Written in single point of view, it's a story about fighting - stage fighting as a job, fighting for your place in a competitive industry, fighting to get back up, fighting to accept love. The chapters feel short, so it feels like you're always making progress, making it easy to binge read. Pages of the movie script they're filming are interspersed between chapters, which is another fun element.

With that said, even though it's well-written, this book just didn't resonate with me. The banter between Mavis and Fox felt a bit off and there's something thin about the narrative. There's refrains of winning and losing, of how the two of them are the same, but I wasn't convinced. It's frustrating how Mavis keeps sabotaging them and I feel badly for Fox, constant and giving, being pushed away so much. I agree with him that the highly anticipated ending of the movie isn't a surprise, so it seemed odd that it was made to be like a big reveal. Overall, a pretty fun, quick read but not one I'd pick up again.

Putting two stunt performers with a messy history back on the same set gives this second-chance romance a lot to play with. There’s already so much trust wrapped up in letting someone else throw you off a horse or send you flying through the air, so adding all that romantic baggage made it even better. I loved getting a peek into the stunt world, even if I’ll admit I occasionally had no idea what was happening during the actual stunt scenes.

I liked what the book was trying to do with Mavis and her POV, but I think it just showed its hand too early and too often. Her distrust of Fox is tangled up in her distrust of herself, which is such an interesting realization. Just kinda lost some power when I’ve already been told some version of it five times by the time it really mattered. Give me hints and let me put it together, or take me deeper into why she feels that way. The mystery plot somehow managed to arrive late and still overstay its welcome, and things got a bit zany toward the back half there, but I had fun with this one.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book!

Still Falling for You was such a fun surprise! I don’t usually gravitate toward second-chance romance, but put two stunt doubles with a messy history on a Hollywood movie set and I’m IN. Mavis and Fox had so much chemistry, tension, and yearning, and their banter had me smiling more than once. I also loved getting a peek into the world of stunt doubles. The action, behind-the-scenes movie magic, and on-set sabotage made this feel so different from the romances I normally read. And Fox? That man was ALL IN on Mavis, and I was absolutely here for it. Mavis’ journey of healing and finding her confidence again was one of my favorite parts. I just wish a few things had been fleshed out more, especially toward the end, because the pacing felt a little rushed in places.

Overall, this was a quick, entertaining read with romance, mystery, steam, and plenty of swoony moments. If you love second chances, forced proximity, slow burn, and a little Hollywood chaos, definitely add this one to your TBR! 4.5⭐
