In the year 6060, an explosion of biodiversity has created a volatile new world, teeming with rapidly evolving flora and fauna. An assignment goes awry for Sam, a biomechanical Golem, while they study the New Wilds. Now they are far away from home and infected with Silver, a disease that withers the mind and body. Tasked with returning their treasure trove of data, Sam must befriend New Peoples, survive the Silver Scourge, and stop the fanatical SAGE, all while learning how alive they truly are.
Set in a distant future, the eventful plot especially follows the experiences of Sam, an expert assigned by Research to study an ecosystem called New Wilds. Sam’s job is to collect data concerning the regional fauna and flora that, according to Research, is already undergoing sentient evolution; that “new species were developing self-awareness…yet no people had been found.”
Thus, it is interesting when Sam and his sidekick come across a silver fluid that is key to the narrative. As the silver grows and the “coral is alive long enough to satisfy whatever this disease is,” Sam realizes it is now a run against time before it consumes him and he hosts and spreads the silver.
Will Sam end the silver disease being used to rid the mainland of life, including the New People and the unique diversity?
