Tala was the grumpiest grump and such a badass and reluctant bodyguard. She had a thick emotional armor from some trauma. I loved how unimpressed she was with Ameriden and Cassimine’s personalities at the beginning. Ameriden was an adorable himbo and Cassimine a cinnamon roll. They were both struggling with some aspects of being famous bards and had kept their relationship a secret. Throwing Tala into the mix was a bit messy, but they ended up all being better for it.

I'd like to start by thanking the author for providing me with an advanced copy of this book to read. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.
I present to you, two hot bards, a punch first ask questions later bodyguard monk, and a whole lot of dungeons and dragons vibes. There was a mystery element throughout the story that was interesting, but I was mostly here for the characters and all their chaos and emotional struggles. Tala had so much to learn with regards to letting others in and not fighting those who just want to help her, and that added depth to the story. The way she integrated into the lives of Ameriden and Casimine was so good and felt natural, as it had hesitations and concerns. I love it when there is hesitation and they don't just fall into things.
The overall dynamic between them all was so soft but amazing, and they were the best consent kings who really cared and wanted to do things correctly. The weight of secrets and the baggage they all have really added to that dynamic, and just made things feel more alive.
My only downside was that the pacing did feel a little off at points, as there was a large portion of the book where nothing happened, but then it would be a whirlwind of events out of nowhere. Outside of that though, I really enjoyed spending time with our characters and just learning about them.

Two hot bards, a punch-first bodyguard monk, and a missing best friend. I had such a good time with this one! Co-series author Lizzie Strong says "K-pop demon hunter vibes crossed with a D&D party" and yup. I'm there.
The vibes and the mystery hooked me, but the characters are really what carried it. As always with Crowley's books! That's why they work so well for me. Tala's arc, learning to make peace with what she sees as her own mistakes, gave the story genuine emotional weight underneath all the banter and chemistry. It really resonated with me. The bond between the three characters is so well done and the dynamic between Ameriden and Casimine makes things feel even softer and more loving. There's real care taken with consent throughout, which I ALWAYS appreciate. The secret relationship is both delightful and upsetting, given the history here. Everyone's carrying their own personal and family baggage into the mix, which adds so much. I adore the relationship dynamics here.
My one minor complaint is that the long-standing relationship from the bards moves into love territory a little fast with Tala. She deserves it, don't get me wrong, but I wanted a little bit more of a slow burn to feelings (tough to do in one book I know).
Spicy, fun, and full of great, diverse characters. What a ride!

I want to first start off by saying the writing itself was very well done. The flow of the flow of the story, the pacing, and the maturity of the maturity of the writing were excellent. I also enjoyed the spice in this as it was creative and overall just well done.
That being said, my main issue with this story was that I honestly was just a bit bored throughout it. I typically love low angst novels, but nothing really happened in this book. I was not able to get myself interested in the characters, the plot, or anything and found myself wandering quite a bit. I do just wish that something more happened that what we got, but that is just me.
I do believe a lot of people are going to love this one and it will be a 5 star read for them. Unfortunately I just didn't vibe with it like I had hoped.

ARC Review
This was a fun fantasy romance that blended adventure, magic, humor, and plenty of heartfelt moments. While it wasn't a perfect read for me, I still had a great time with the characters and found myself invested in both their personal journeys and the relationships they built along the way.
The biggest highlight was definitely the cast. Tala is a stubborn, punch-first-ask-questions-later bodyguard who struggles to trust the people around her, and I really enjoyed watching her slowly open up. Ameriden and Casimine balanced her personality well with their warmth, patience, and endless charm. Their dynamic felt caring and respectful, and I appreciated how much importance was placed on communication and consent throughout the story. The emotional baggage each character carried also added depth, making their relationships feel more meaningful.
The fantasy setting was another strong point. The world wasn't overly complicated, making it easy to follow, but there was still enough lore, magic, and unique races to keep things interesting. The Dungeons & Dragons-inspired atmosphere was especially enjoyable, and I loved the playful energy that the bard duo brought to the story.
That said, I did struggle with the pacing at times. The story occasionally slowed down for long stretches before suddenly throwing several major events together, which made the overall flow feel uneven. I also would have liked to see more development in the romance on the page. While the chemistry between the characters was sweet, some of the emotional progression happened a little too quickly for me, and I found myself wanting more shared moments before their feelings became so strong.
Even with those issues, I still enjoyed the overall experience. The humor, found-family moments, and emotional themes balanced well with the fantasy adventure, and the romance added plenty of warmth without overshadowing the rest of the story. The side characters, magical elements, and unique setting all left me curious to explore more books in this world.
Overall, this was an entertaining MMF fantasy romance with lovable characters, an engaging magical setting, and a lot of heart. While the pacing and romance development didn't fully work for me, I still found it to be an enjoyable read and would happily pick up another book set in this series.

Firstly, thank you to Azalea for the ARC copy of this book. I am leaving my review for free and completely of my own thoughts and opinions.
I had really high expectations going into this book and while they weren't met, the book wasn't objectionable. I really appreciated it being a queernormative world and thought the LGBT rep was nice. The writing style was fine, the world building, while minimal was adequate enough for you to get through the story understanding what was happening and why and the lil bits of lore about the races were interesting to read when we got them. However I really struggled with the pacing of this book, the pacing of the romance and with connecting to the characters.
The over all plot of the book was a bit all over the place for me and I think that was one of the aspects that threw me with the pacing. It felt like there was a large portion of the book where not much was happening in terms of plot progress and then lots would happen at once, and then you would go back to a string of time of not much happening again.
While I could appreciate certain aspects of the characters, especially the anxiety rep through Casimine, I overall just could not connect with them very well. I struggled to find anything to latch onto that stood out about them. However I did enjoy the love and tenderness Casimine and Ameriden had for each other, I think that was one of the aspects Azalea conveyed very well.
Taldesa, Casimine and Ameriden together however just didn't quite work for me. It was far to insta love and to much of the building of that happened of page. They had barely any on page interactions together before the two of them were talking about how they thought they loved her. It just didn't work for me.

🎸Cashmere Fantasy🎸 is smug Ameridan with a mysterious past, and charming Casimine; the duo are recovering after an incident left Cas traumatised and fearful of the public.
The duo frustrate Tala to no end, but before she knows it, she becomes enamoured by their charm and affection towards her. The bards pasts are beginning to creep up on them and Tala hopes to keep them safe while maintaining professional boundaries. But the closer they get, the blurrier the boundaries become!
Also, who doesn't love an emotionally deregulated hot woman who hits a little too close to home?
I enjoyed this a lot! It was well paced and I enjoyed the characterisations. It's in third person POV but shifts perspective each chapter between the three main characters. It does a good job of "show not tell" with regards to the plot development and world building. The world building is very reminiscent of Dnd which is a lot of fun to imagine!
There's a PTSD rep, the boyfriends are boyfriends (!), plus lots of family issues across the board! Also, the spice is spicing. Absolutely check the content warnings before reading; the boyfriends want a girlfriend, that's all I'm saying!
It also turns out this is book two of the "Love in Ordia" series but absolutely can be read alone! If you want to find out where Talas bestie has been, her book comes out in September!

A no-nonsense, autistic-coded warrior wielding a bone to pick with everyone and a pair of hot bard lovers with their own secrets to unpack meet under unexpected circumstances in order to keep the show, and each other, alive. Read like an insider perspective of a K-pop boy band and their bodyguard set in a DnD universe, Badmouths & Bards tackles real-life issues surrounding destructive parasocial relationships, social masking and emotional walls, and learning accept yourself as you are.
This was a super interesting and fun take on the hidden lives of K-pop performers and what kind of rules and social etiquette they are taught (and forced by fans) to follow, and how that leaves a person unable to truly be themselves, or in fear of retaliation and stalking. I love Crowley's writing style and their ability to world build so efficiently, but I did feel like the story focused a lot more on spice than it did the plot, which I longed for more of! I do think the way in which this book ends leaves some intrigue for a second story that could potentially dive more into all the characters' backstories, but I wish more was explored and more adventure happened before the second half. I would absolutely love more stories or sections about the world Crowley built, the magic systems, and deities. Tala, Ameriden, and Casi are all very strong, uniquely written characters with more to unravel, so I hope we get more in the future!
Overall, definitely more of a cozy romantasy read with darker themes, and characters that really shine when they are given the stage. Multi-POV keeps the story moving in real time and blends seamlessly. If you like witty quips, grumpy x sunshine, and TWO caring boyfriends with fabulous fashion, read on!

If you’re in the mood for a fantasy romance with DnD vibes, featuring a charming bard duo MMCs and grumpy bodyguard FMC…run, don’t walk, to read this book. Life was really kicking my booty last month, but this book was the only one I could pick up during my reading slump and actually got me out of my slump.
This book follows FMC Taldesa (Tala), a human monk and member of the Valiant Circle as she is assigned to protect the hot (and flirty) bard duo, Casimine and Ameriden. These MMCs are enamored with her and makes for an interesting dynamic while Tala attempts to find who has been stalking the duo. I absolutely love the world-building. Yes there’s spice and it’s delicious, but that’s also not the focus. There is plot, yall. Think fantasy meets western meets D&D vibes. I felt an immediate connection to the characters and their storyline. The guys, swoon. Consent kings! Tala, she’s a punch first, ask questions later kinda gal and I love it. This was a very fun time.

I want to start by saying that I loved the characters and the world building. While the world felt very DnDesque, the magic system was very distinct and I appreciated the breakdown of how different professions got their magic abilities. I also loved that the magic "races" were more complicated than the average human, elf, dwarf, halfling. Learning about Water Helfen's unique magic, and different Helfen societies and histories in general, was incredibly interesting. I also though the characters were very loveable. Ameriden and Casimine's tenderness for each other and for Taldesa was truly beautiful.
That being said, I struggled a lot with the pacing of this book. Chapter endings often felt very abrupt, and I was often confused as to exactly what the major tension points were supposed to be. I know Avie's book is being published simultaneously, but Taldesa spends all of "Badmouths & Bards" desperately worried about her friend only for the problem to have what I though was an unsatisfying conclusion. We didn't see Taldesa do much of anything to actually search for her friend, or honestly, do much work as an actual bodyguard either. The focus staying mainly on the relationship between Taldesa, Casimine, and Ameriden may have bothered me less if it had felt more developed and less insta-love. I felt like not much plot was happening, so it was hard to see the time passing, and then suddenly the characters were in love with each other without having really had an honest conversation.
Over all though, I don't want to leave the impression that I hated this book. It wasn't for me personally, but fans of interesting fantasy worlds and steamy MMF romance will likely really love it. I did appreciate the careful portrayal of anxiety, PTSD, and trauma. Seeing characters acknowledge and care for each others mental health and love each other not in spite of but because of their flaws was really lovely, and was easily my favorite part of their relationship. I appreciated getting to know Taldesa, Ameriden, and Casimine, and getting to spend a bit of time inside their world.

Despite appearances, the trio are not what they seem, and as time goes on secrets are revealed as they become closer. This very much felt like a DnD campaign played with friends and the vibes were immaculate.
I really enjoyed Taldesa as a character. On first appearances, she's blunt and standoffish and full of rage. However, as the novel progresses, she opens up more about her past and how several rejections throughout her life have shaped how she is. The fight scenes with her were all so well-written and entertaining, and I loved how organically she reacted to bad things happening.
I want to stress again that this book was extremely well-written and I adored the Queernorm world, as well as the polyamory representation. However, I did find myself unable to connect with Ameriden and Casimine. I liked them well enough but I couldn't bring myself to truly care about them as characters. I also found the story a bit boring at times. I love cozy fantasy and low-stakes, so I knew what I was getting in to, but I did struggle at parts to stay engaged as not a lot happened.
However, I know a lot of people are fans of bodyguard x people being protected and that, paired with the excellent queer rep, high quality writing, and general great vibes of the book will be exactly what a lot of readers are looking for.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the world-building and fantasy magic system, especially the Helfen/Hanfen water-element MMCs. There is a nice glossary of fantasy terms at the beginning, which was a helpful reference. The relationship dynamics between the MCs were charming, with all of the characters being unique and interesting in their own ways. It’s not exactly a grumpy/sunshine pairing, but there are similarities, with a more serious, baddie FMC and easygoing MMCs. Watching the MMCs fluster the serious FMC was so fun. There were also a lot of interesting plot elements throughout the story.
Overall, this was an exciting and spicy read. I’m looking forward to the next installment in the series, Snake Eyes & Bad Luck by Lizzie Strong, which features this FMC’s best friend and is scheduled for release in September 2026.

I absolutely loved book 1 in this series, which was a collab with Lizzie Strong! I was super excited to see book 2 and book 3 coming out. I was really interested to see how the dynamic between all three MCs would pan out and I was not disappointed. Between Amer’s strong and playful personality, Casi’s princely and powerful presence and Tala’s harsh but protective vibe was a prefect storm. Seeing them wear her down with love and affection while she fights to keep them safe and happy was so fulfilling. I loved seeing them together, it was hard to pick a favorite. I think my fav has to be Casimine though! Between his princely demeanor, his soft heart and beautiful voice with a more dominant and demanding side in the spicy scenes, he was perfectttt!
The spice was so top tier. I love when it doesn’t feel like anyone is left out, which is helped but Casi and Amer’s rule of both of us or none of us. I liked that it didn’t get messy that way. Everyone was included and everyone was fulfilled by the end of it. The only thing I didn’t love was Tala’s friend, Avie. I definitely think that when Avie gets her own book, things will become more clear. But I think she could have tried to explain the situation better. But it was added to the plot so I can appreciate it! Overall, definitely a good read!

This was a different reading experience than I’m used to from Azalea. The increase in spice was nice, making this the sexiest book from the author that I’ve personally read. The world building is very cool. I’m definitely going to have to go back and read the first book in this interconnected series. So I have a better sense of it. I’m also excited for what’s next, I just wish I would have know going in that there would be a second part. So that I could have better managed my expectations. I’m hoping it’s from the author because a complete change in narrative voice with the same characters doesn’t sound enjoyable to me.
Something that I missed in this book that I’m used to getting is a deeper dive into what makes her characters tick and I definitely wanted to know and understand Tala better. Im also used to better developed chemistry between the love interest and while I get why that would be more difficult to accomplish with a character like Tala the lack of it was still noticeable for me. I’m all for authors trying different things stylistically, I love a genre jumper, and I don’t want to place limits on anyone’s creativity but I think it’s reasonable to want certain things from an author when you read them because they write in a way that’s enjoyable to you.
So while I liked the story and several aspects of it, overall it was enjoyable but missed a few marks for me.

Cosy fantasy romance - very spicy, MMF romance
This was exactly what I needed to have on my plate after all the grim(ish) reading I've been doing lately. It was just warm and fun the whole way through.
The writing was lovely and comforting, with enough worldbuilding to feel comfortable and familiar without feeling too out of your depth.
And the characters! Our dear FMC Taldesa, and her thought processes, was so much like me at some points that I felt seriously called out. Socially awkward, prickly, hiding the contempt she has for herself behind her anger.
As for our to two main men, well. Crowley mentions that this is, to an extent, a reflection on the idol culture that you commonly see in kpop and other genres, and I can definitely see it. I'd go so far as to say it's about parasociality, and its impact on the real people behind the photos/names/presences the general public sees.
And woo, the spice. I'm sex neutral for the most part, and prefer not to read spice unless it's well written. This was well written. Erm, very much so. Highly enjoyable. Ahem.
Go read this. It was so great! Loved it through and through!

I really liked this book. Idk what it is about her writing style but I just loved it.
The 3 main leads Taldesa, Ameriden and Casimine were all really well written and meshed in a real, believable way.
Taldesa I found to be a really unique character because of her struggles with her anger. Alot of times in romance novels now, if the female lead isn't soft and sweet she's just a little bit spicy. Tala on the other hand comes across as rough around all of her edges, quick to anger, but also someone with a heart compassion despite all of that. If you couldn't tell I really enjoyed her character a lot.
I liked both men a lot too, they were well written with interesting backstories and as someone who deals with anxiety and some previous trauma I found some of Casimines struggles familiar to some of my own.
Overall I found this book absolutely fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone. And I mean let's be real, who wouldnt love a book where the boyfriends are boyfriends? I am soooo looking forward to the next part that's going to be written by Lizzie Strong. Cuz after that endingy brain HAS to know how we got here.

This was my first book by the author and also the first of this series, I will now read the first instalment of the series and also the third book once is out because I had a lovely time!
What I particularly enjoyed: Tala is very funny and strong willed, which I always enjoy on an MC. The vibes were fantastic (I recommend playing d&d playlists on youtube while you read this, it truly adds to the experience!). The chemistry between the characters was very well written. The book had 10/10 representation, which is such a breath of fresh air.
Things that stopped me from rating it 5 stars: I wanted to see more buildup to the relationship. I get why Amer and Cas invite her to join them, and like i said I think the chemistry is 100% there but I felt less of an emotional build up to their love story.
Who I think would enjoy this: Romantasy fants who are tired of the same formulaic stories, d&d players who enjoy pissing off their DMs by taking their characters on weird side quests, fans of spicy books that are well written and scorching hot!

I cannot explain to the full extent how much this book meant for me to read. A healthy throuple that operates on high levels of communication and mutual respect.
From the very start of the book I was having so much fun. It had a good balance of being playfully funny, but also having these sweet emotional raw moments that kept the book grounded.
Taldesa as a character is so fiery and has so much anger. She has good reasons to be angry, but then finding two people who stoke that anger in a playful way and accept her for who she is was amazing. Ameriden and Casimine were both so amazing and what made them sexy more then just their looks was the way they care for each other and later on for Taldesa.
I think the core of this book is their relationship together. Not just them coming together and realizing they were all falling in love, but listening to each others anxieties and dreams and reassuring and accepting all of each other. It was a beautiful representation of polyamory and I was smiling ear to ear throughout it.
Also, of course, this book has plenty of spice. Consensual, healthy, lots of talking while doing kind of spice. I loved it. There was one scene in particular that I really loved, but I will not spoil the fun for anyone.
If you love fantasy, bards, a spicy narrative, and a good bit of action, you will love Badmouths & Bards. The banter in this book is incredible and of you love a bit of tsundere you will adore Taldesa.

DND vibes with a punch first ask questions later bodyguard and two lovable himbo boyfriends who are also boyfriends. Say no more, I’m sold. This was exactly as fun as I’ve come to expect from Azalea, and it’s always interesting to see where in this world she’s chosen to tell a story from. She creates worlds so well fleshed out that every story could be another new niche corner of it, and that definitely happened here. I expected the same ish setting as the first book and was surprised but delighted to see she’d uncovered a completely different corner of the world!
I adored Tala and her feisty but self aware attitude, Casi and Amer balance it out in their own ways while still retaining their own identities. The bond between them all is well thought out, I do wish they’d drawn things out a little more, but thats mostly my own reluctance to leave their world, I’d be happy to read a book twice this size about these three.
Looking forward to seeing what happens with Avie and her new friend soon, there was a lot left unresolved there!

I received Badmouths & Bards as an early advanced reader copy from the author but my thoughts and opinions are my own. A monk and two bards! What’s not to love about this book?! The story for me was unique. The world building was easily digestible. The timeline and sequences of events were seamless to follow. The plot twist was one I really didn’t see coming. But my favorite part of the entire book was the character arc’s. Not only that but how the characters see right through each other and love one another for who they truly are. I also really liked how the MFC Tala was portrayed as strong, takes no BS, can hold her own in a fight, and she felt neurodivergent to me and I absolutely love that! Not only does this story have a heaping amount of flirting and a generous amount of spicy scenes but it’s lough out loud funny and I found it entertaining and moving at the same time. This was an easy five star read for me!

This one is a MMF fantasy, meets western, meets awesome. I would say meets mystery, but I feel like every fantasy and western has a mystery aspect to it. I tried to prove myself wrong, but there were enough examples in the proof stack that just yeah.
So all three of our mains have damage in varying degrees, and they have found different coping mechanisms. But that's just what they are doing...coping. Nothing has been resolved, they are all still very haunted in their own way.
But the fellas have a job to do, and so does their newly assigned bodyguard.
This one was fun! Fun, and sexy, and it kept me on my toes! Between the fellas trying to be sexy not just with each other but with her. (but not in a pushy way because they are consent kings ALL THE WAY) But also just the mystery surrounding other happenings that I won't give away here. It was just so very good and very worth your time.

Reading this book felt like living in a game of Dungeons and Dragons. There was magic and mischief and curses and kisses and secrets and seductions. Crowley really delivered with this book and it was such a fun read! Casimine and Ameriden are bards, traveling to perform. But their act, Cashmere Fantasy, is so well known that they have their own group of dangerous fans. To protect them at their next stop, their manager brings in a bodyguard, Tala. All three of our main characters have baggage - mysteries in their pasts that we slowly see unraveled as they go on an adventure of their own. Plus, there’s a bit of heat between Casi and Amer... and maybe its spreading to Tala too. Overall, the worldbuilding was well done (there’s a related book to check out!), the characters are diverse, and the story is absolutely worth reading.

I was so honored to be an ARC reader for this book! I really enjoyed this one! It was an easy, cozy, and fun read. I liked the characters and their dynamics. The spicy scenes were well written. The only reason it was 4⭐️ instead of 5⭐️ was because the pacing felt really off to me. The first half of the book was really slow, which was totally fine, it picks up a bit and starts hinting at bigger plot, but then the last like 20% smacks you in the face with so much crazy plot that I just kept wondering what in the world was going on?? 😂 I do wonder if this is because of the author’s background in horror writing because I feel like that sort of pacing works ok for that particular genre. This was my first full book by Azalea but it won’t be my last! I look forward to reading more.

Tala is my favorite kind of heroine. She's complicated, difficult and angry and struggles with her duty as a bodyguard and her growing affection for her charges. Casimine is beautiful, exceedingly talented, and a giant ball of anxieties. Ameriden absolutely oozes sex appeal, but is hiding a huge, dangerous secret from everyone he loves.
Badmouths and Bards is fun and spicy, queer normative and cozy and let's the reader explore a new, less rustic section of Ordia. Definitely check it out if you love D&D and K-Pop idols.

⭐️4.5 - I was so insanely excited to learn that we were getting more books in this series!! The world is so thick and lush and all the stories feel so unique and different! All the characters were so relatable and raw and its impossible to not feel for everything they go through. We follow Ameriden and Casimine, a traveling bard duo as they try to avoid obsessed fans with the help of their fiery bodyguard Tala, whom they are immediately head over heels for. We have childhood trauma, romance, violence, intimacy and trust wound into every word of this story. All the characters have such depth and are so flawed that you cant help but root for them. And whats even better? We got a little hint at the third book in the series at the end 😏

Two charming bards and a tough warrior with anger issues walk into a bar…B & B was an amazing read, the throuple relationship really felt like it was done right, there was no sense of anyone being left out or any toxicity! I loved that we got to see how different dynamics worked, Amer and Casi were deep in love with each other before and Tala fit in with them perfectly! There wasn’t a character I disliked in this book, the setting was fleshed out so well that it was like a film unfolding in my mind as I read. I love how well Azalea captures the DnD vibes in her fantasy books!

This follows Taldesa who gets assigned as a bodyguard for two famous bards for a few months. She’s not thrilled, especially when they seem to be rather too flirtatious with her and with themselves. But as she gets to know them and the reason she was hired as a bodyguard, her heart begins to soften towards them.
I really enjoyed this book! The dynamic between the three was very entertaining!
The two bards are both on the sunshine side with one being outgoing and protective and the other more on the quieter and reserved side, and then there’s severely grumpy Taldesa.
The story itself is sweet with Casimine going through a traumatic experience and trying to get back to a more normal groove of things while also wishing things could be different for him and Ameridan, and now Taldesa.
Then Ameridan just wants Casimine and Taldesa to be happy and safe, and I just loved him and Taldesa’s protective sides, especially when it came to Casimine. That boy has it good!
The romance is hot and steamy, and the three of them just work so well together, not to mention some of the unique side characters.

This books is a delicious MMF poly romance that mixes urban fantasy and western genres for maximum setting enjoyment. Sort of cult classic movie Wild Wild West mixed with D&D and the result is so incredibly fun and unique!

There's a bit of a mystery plot with the bodyguard storyline, but honestly I'm here for the developing romance between the characters, which Crowley writes so well. This is a low angst cozy romance, and the fantasy western vibes make it a perfect slump breaker.
