A small town. A second chance. And a love that changes with the wind.
After a year of running from her past, Caroline Pearce is finally ready to start over in the quiet town of Inspiration, Montana. Her new apartment feels like freedom—until two very different men turn her fresh start into emotional chaos.
Cash Colter, the rodeo cowboy with an easy smile and a soft heart, makes her feel safe in ways she never thought possible. Duke Williams, the brooding bartender with a dangerous kind of tenderness, makes her feel alive.
As the line between comfort and desire blurs, Callie must choose between the man who steadies her and the one who sets her heart on fire. But love in Montana is like the weather—wild, unpredictable, and impossible to resist.
I'm really not a fan of cowboy stories. maybe it's from being forced to watch too many cheesy John Wayne films as a child, but it's one thing I've never really thought out in novel form.
It's just not my thing.
So you can imagine how surprised I was to enjoy "Unexpected Weather" by Ohio author Fox Kelly. I'd been a fan of hers since reading her debut novel Blood Ties last year (it was in my top 10 favorite books of the year. It's a delightfully spicy vampire romance and I highly recommend it!).
I pre-ordered it before it came out to support another local Ohio author. however, finding myself in the hospital, I had a lot of time to kill and found myself paging through the first few pages. The story grabbed me and held my interest until the end!
I read it over a single day, and was honestly impressed. This is first class cowboy spice! The Characters were distinct, and unlike many other straight romances I read none of the characters are complete and utter douchebags, either. You will honestly get sucked in and read until the last page.
It takes a lot to get me to finish a book this far out of my wheelhouse. Fox Kelly has genuine talent and can weave a tail that transcends genre. If you want a hot and spicy cowboy story where you can practically smell the Denim and leather, Unexpected Weather is highly recommended!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love a good cowboy romance, and this one absolutely delivered. Callie, running from her past, lands in a small Montana town and finds herself caught between two best friends, Cash and Duke. What starts off fun quickly turns emotional and complicated in the best way.
I went in blind and was pleasantly surprised by the why-choose romance. The story is funny, flirty, and at times heartbreaking, with just the right balance of plot and spice, and yes it’s spicy!! The multiple POVs really pull you into each character, and I loved how their relationships developed.
It’s a full-on bull ride of emotions (pun intended), with some heavier moments, but the ending was sweet and left me a little teary-eyed. Not saying i want to go through what callie did but i sure wouldn’t mind me two Montana boys of my own.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for a spicy, emotional cowboy romance!
I received this book as an ARC and am grateful for the opportunity to read it.
The best, most captivating book I’ve read in a long time! I could not put it down. I wish I could give it more stars! 10/10 small town girl from my hometown in NC travels to the mountains of Montana running from her past! I could definitely relate to her past, been there, however I was too young and stupid to run across country. She meets these ppl who are so genuine and kind to her. They show her what it’s like to be loved from her 1st day in town. She falls in love with 2 men, cowboys but one not really, but he was really lol. Not knowing they were childhood besties! 2 completely different men each showing her love in a different way by fulfilling her hopes and dreams and emptiness in their unique ways. Tragedy strikes 2 times but they still overcome it and push through. Love her choices in the end!
I just finished reading Unexpected Weather by Fox Kelly, and it might be my favorite contemporary romance of the year so far. I was fully emotionally invested in the characters within just a few chapters.
I initially misunderstood some of the tropes and was stressed about a specific plot point, but it was resolved beautifully. . This book had me laughing, crying, and on the edge of my seat. Even though I was sick, I stayed up far too late because I simply could not put it down. I was completely obsessed; as soon as I finished, I wanted to go back to page one and start all over again. The banter, the spice, and the personalities were utter perfection.
Fox Kelly has become one of my favorite authors after reading this book. I would love to see this novel turned into a movie so I can see these three characters interact on a screen.
I really enjoyed seeing how Caroline interacted with Cash and Duke. She had chemistry with both but they offered her very different things.
The scenes were they realized they were talking to the same girl was so intense.
Although I do fault Caroline a bit for not coming clean sooner to them I do feel like her character experienced a lot of trauma that made her act that way. Even the scene with her ex showed how much she had endured.
Would love to read more novels like this by Fox Kelly.
I looove me some cowboy romances and this one did not disappoint! What a well written story about a woman trying to escape her past, a bull rider wanting to find love and a bartender that needs to find a second chance. It gets a little complicated with the guys being best friends but it takes you on all the feels from all three characters point of view. It is a bull ride of emotions and some triggers, but a really great ride. It plays out like a movie as you read it and keeps you trying to figure out how it will all work out. Hold on, because you will need more than 8 seconds on this ride!
I received this book as an ARC. Let me just say, I LOVED this. I read this at every chance I got. Callie has left her home in the Carolinas and had been driving around until she found herself in the small town of Insperarion, Montana. She fell in love with best friends, Cash and Duke. At first it was fun, but then she got in too deep. When they found out, things went south, but it was soon turned around. Duke and Cash learned that they can both love her ans cherish her. The ending was sweet and made me a little teary-eyed.
I received this book as an ARC reader, and I could not put it down! I read the entire book in 24 hours because I was completely hooked from start to finish. I love a good cowboy romance, and this one did not disappoint.
The chemistry was undeniable. There was a perfect balance of spice, sadness, and humor. If you love why choose trope, this is the book for you.
Cowboy romance lovers, this one is definitely worth the read!
Review of an Advanced Reader Copy Received from Author
Nothing like starting fresh to end up with your car in a ditch. Within 24 hours of landing in Inspiration Montana, Caroline has caught the eye of 2 completely opposite cowboys. One is grumpy and calls her Sunshine. One is sunshine and calls her Hurricane.
He falls first, sexy cowboy (and spice!!), and secrets from the past. Definitely worth a read if any of these tropes are your faves!
This book was everything I didn't know I needed! it was funny, flirty, suspenseful, and at times super sad. it was the perfect balance of plot and spice and and spice was very spicy but it didn't overpower the story line. the characters were so easy to fall in love with. over all 5 stars is to little of starts to rate this book. I absolutely loved it.
OMG this book was amazing! I loved the plot and the spice! I laughed, i cried, I laughed some more, I cried again and when I finished the book I was smilling ear to ear!! It was an emotional roller coaster and I loved every minute of it. Im so glad Cash, Duke and Callie got their happy ending. That Callie is one lucky girl! I cant wait for book 2!
Must read if you like a why choose trope but trigger warnings apply for miscarriage, domestic violence.
I think I’ll be blushing for a while after this why choose romance. It was so good. I laughed, cried, make snarky comments to myself…fell in love with the characters. I thought my heart was going to break there towards the end. Well done Fox Kelly!
I am so happy I took the time to find Fox Kelly at A Book Affair on saturday! This book was outstanding! I love when I cant put a book down and this was one of those. This book had so much excited and the romance was the perfect about of spice. One of my favorite tropes are cowboy romances and this nailed it perfectly.thank you for an incredible story.
Oh my goodness. This was the first time I've read a book with these tropes and I loved it! I could not put it down. The characters were wonderful and the themes were dealt with sensitivity yet realness.
Wow! I loved the chemistry between Caroline, Duke and Cash. The storyline kept me reading late in the night. I just couldn’t put it down. I hope there is a follow up story to let us know what happens next!
I go into books blind so I was pleasantly surprised when this ended up being a why choose romance. Plenty of drama and spice. Highly recommend if you are looking for a spicy cowboy romance.
I received this as an advanced reader copy and am truly grateful to have been giving this opportunity.
I received this book as an ARC. Unexpected Weather is a why choose cowboy themed romance. The plot mainly centers around the growing relationship between the 3 main characters. I really enjoyed the depth of the male characters and overall emotional journey of the story.
Yall - I absolutely loved this book! It had me constantly wanting to read more and see what happens next. I love me a good cowboy romance, but this?!?😍 mm, 12/10 definitely recommend this one! And it’s a short read!!
This book has MADE me into a cowboy romance girly! The book boyfriends in this one were everything and I absolutely ate it up. While the story does have some tough topics about abuse and loss it’s offset with cozy town scenes and flirty dialogue.
At first, didn’t think I would like the reverse harem and why-choose trope, but the way they both complete different parts of her made it special. It’s a great book, even if the small town gossip is sometimes too much for me.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 - it’s spicy but romantic and sweet

This was a great ride from start to finish! What really stood out to me was how much heart this story had. Yes, there’s heat, but there’s also vulnerability and that pull that keeps you turning the pages. Fox Kelly took a trope I don’t usually reach for and made me love it. That alone says everything. This is perfect for readers who love grumpy/sunshine (but it’s not the way you expect 😉), banter, protective men, emotional healing, and found family vibes!!
This book has it all! Loved the romance, the friendship, the redemption that true love and companionship bring. This was the absolute perfect blend of sweet and spicy! Great for a summer read.
