Even reading the reviews to debate about picking up this book is costing you time you will never get back and if you decide to pick up this book - you will most likely deeply regret sacrificing the time for it instead of getting something waxed or undertaking a root canal.

I hate to write negative reviews, I would rather not leave a review at all but, there is literally nothing positive I can say about this book other than how glad I was to read the last word.

Spice level: -4.75/5 (Yes. Negative.)

The book starts with zero concept or explanations given which sometimes creates intrigue and mystery, and adds layers that you can't wait to unravel. With this book, it just leaves and constantly just adds to the confusion and frustration but the worst part is that even when those gaps get filled (IF they get filled) they don't add much of anything beyond disappointment.

The plot holes and contradictions are ridiculous.

For example -

She is said to have grown up being controlled and imprisoned by her father, (there is never any mention of her mother) it's implied that she is abused though nothing physical (beyond binding spells that leave scars) yet, she has a go bag packed and left under her bed? She has a phone and knows how to use it to learn how to drive a car? At one point it shows a memory of her having a meal, alone at a diner. She went to school, she was not home schooled...

One character, it's repeatedly referenced that his mother was killed because of her face - I am pretty sure it even says that she died for her role/choices in who she chose to have him with because of what face he ended up with - but then later he tells the story of her execution and it was because she raised him to believe mercy wasn't a weakness...and had absolutely nothing regarlding his looks or an affair, nothing. Even if it was her being executed because of looks - it makes zero sense that he wouldn't have been as well, or, at least the attempt to kill him off, or how miserable and tortured they made his life because of his face being part of the storyline.

The repeats are many, and that is if you can get past the weird need there was to correlate everything through an analytical/mathematical filter that really doesn't have a explanation and is in no way shape or form actually benefiting to the plot, world or characters...

The structure is very much "outlines - cut & paste" there are a few times something is said/occurs without any context or explanation for its relevance or source and then later it is presented as though it's suposed to be some sort of revelation.

The ramblings are exhausting and honestly, confusing and more often than not make absolutely zero sense at all - I think it is supposed to read as if there is an intake of data, and then it's filtered and decoded and a conclusion is reached with every. Single. Interaction. However, the issue is that it makes zero sense. None.

I cannot express how much I wish I did NOT read a word beyond the sample.

Disappointed

The description isn’t that clear about the plot but once you get to the point of the story, it’s a good idea for a plot. But the delivery is severely lacking. And the book does need editing. Badly. I saw one review saying it was multiple POVs and it wasn’t clear which one was which but that was not the case. It’s written in third person.

The character development is very poor. The plot has good bones but does not seem like it can support the 5 or 6 books in the series. Do not expect a lot of talking. There is not much. And when there is, it’s is sparse and dry. The author makes Wren out to be a robot. But the plot line does not and can’t allow that to actually be true. So it was a 1 star, skip to the end for me.

This was tough to read. The story was told from multiple POVs but it didn't specify which character. There were scenes that repeated with slight variances and it was hard to get into the story. I think I might have just read an AI book!😫
