Lance Jepsen writes thrillers about secrets, systems, and the quiet moments when something in the world stops making sense.
His novels often begin with a simple discovery, a buried object, an unexplained pattern, a record that shouldn’t exist, and follow the people who start asking the wrong questions about it.
When he isn’t writing, Lance enjoys studying history, technology, and the strange real-world stories that make the best thriller plots.
“The Null Verdict is a smart, tightly constructed legal thriller that combines courtroom suspense, moral ambiguity, and psychological tension into an intensely compelling reading experience. Lance Jepsen crafts a story that feels both intellectually engaging and emotionally charged, drawing readers into a world where truth, justice, and personal motives constantly collide. The legal elements feel authentic and purposeful, giving the narrative a strong sense of realism while still maintaining the momentum and suspense expected from a gripping thriller.”
“What stood out most was the novel’s ability to sustain tension both inside and outside the courtroom. The legal strategy, shifting alliances, and carefully revealed secrets create a layered narrative where every revelation raises the stakes even higher. Jepsen balances procedural precision with emotional complexity exceptionally well, allowing the characters’ personal vulnerabilities and ambitions to shape the unfolding conflict in believable and compelling ways. The pacing remains sharp throughout, with twists that feel earned rather than forced, keeping readers fully invested until the final pages. The result is a legal thriller that feels sophisticated, suspenseful, and highly cinematic while still remaining grounded in the emotional realities of justice, consequence, and human fallibility.”
This book deserves a 5+ rating. One of the best suspense novels available. This is one you can’t put down. When I finished reading the book, I wanted more. I will be looking for the author’s next book. No violence or sexual content.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What an outstanding book. It does require focus however the reader is rewarded with extraordinary detail and explanation. This book describes the systemic corruption that can occur in the courtroom. The digital alteration of evidence. Beautifully written.
Too much information to process, which made it boring & way too long. No intrigue or suspense. Definitely not in the same league as other legal fiction.
