I will be giving this book 3 stars. It had some pros to it for sure, there was a decent storyline following the investigation into the sudden death of Dennis Colwell, good character development with some great characters like the sassy old ladies Mavis, Jo and Lenore (Jo is my favorite), there is a cute little romance in this small town cozy mystery. On the other hand there are some cons to this book that I couldn't overlook such as the fact the book throws you straight into the pool with no information given as to who the dead guy even is, none of the main characters actually have ages given for them just a basic bracket of age-range they fall under, given a town name but no country to know this is happening in Australia til almost 3/4's thru the book which was very confusing and led to me needing to look up words like ute (utility vehicle). All of that I could have gotten passed and given 4 stars if additional editing had been done to eliminate the repeated scenes (first time visiting somewhere can only happen once), and the scenes happening out of order such as information being passed along before the information has even been found out or talking about a character that has not yet even been introduced to the reader to know what is going on with them. I was also conflicted on the ending it seemed as though the suspense of finding out what really happened the whole book was wrapped up very quickly after ALOT of build up.

I had such a difficult time getting into this one, and was constantly trying to understand the meaning as an American reader. It took me quite some time to realize that this story is set in Australia (at which point, it made sense why things like 'bloke' are used so much!) I was trying to wrap my head around the story details, as many are very foreign for an American reader, and I just couldn't get into a rhythm to attach to the many characters, and seemed a little slow on the development; as there are several character names, I found myself stopping to go back and reread to make sure I was assembling the story along the way and tying their storylines together correctly.

Overall, the story was a decent cozy mystery, but maybe I was just not the target demographic.

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery, the second of a series based in a small village in Australia. The character development is outstanding, the investigation details are real and the characters likeable. There are elderly women, a relatively new policeman, a realistic journalist, a gay love story, at least one murder, and assorted bad guys. Only through the realistic investigative process are those involved able to identify the killer. There are attempts at intimidation and politicians with their own agendas, and it all starts with a wake. I’m very pleased to give this book five stars.

FFS

FFS-Final Farewell Society, how adorable. Yes, I thought this book was adorable. There was one part of the book that seemed to accidentally repeat itself. That aside, these little old ladies captured my heart from the start. This story flowed very smooth, from one chapter to the next and one person to the next. I think this is a gentle mystery, as it didn't have me on the edge of my seat, heart pounding type of mystery. Very fun to read
