The Maniac and The Muse was an explosive dark MM romance. It had violence, murder , psychological tension , trauma , morally grey characters , spice , friendship , love , and an ending that will leave you reeling.
Elliot Vale is a dark and disturbed, insanely talented fashion designer. Who went through so much childhood trauma and sexual assault. He harnessed all his emotions and dark thoughts into his fashion designs. He definitely is a dark soul , but you get to see the softer side of him when he meets Luke. Elliot is definitely morally grey and has the touch him and die vibe plus the obsessive and possessive vibes going. And I’m fucking here for it ! He does NOT like when someone touches or hurts what is his!
And sweet , but dominating Luke Navarro. He’s like an easy Sunday morning with the filthiest mouth 😈. He saw all the dark and jagged parts of Elliot , but loved him anyway and would never leave his side , despite the monster underneath. I loved their love ! I loved their witty banter and all the dirty talk and watching them fall in love with each other. It made you feel giddy and happy just reading about it.
The side characters were lots of fun too. Mara is THAT BITCH and a true ride or die type of friend. I love Elliot and Mara’s relationship/ friendship. I definitely need more of Mara in the future.
I loved all the fashion sketches and designs throughout the book and thought it was a lovely bonus. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat and is very dark , but I really liked it! There is no HEA and the ending is on the sad side. There’s so much more I want to say, but you’ll have to read it to find out. Definitely 4/5 star read for me. This is the first book in this trilogy and I can’t wait for the next book!
It took me way longer to finish than it normally would. A book this length usually takes me around 12 hours, but I kept going back to reread chapters and take notes because I felt like I was missing something.
Reading everything through Elliot's POV makes you question what's real because he's clearly not mentally okay. I honestly spent half the book wondering if I could trust anything I was reading. 🫠
Mini Spoilers ‼️
At first I was convinced Elliot had another personality because... the way they portrayed Raul? 😭 Then Luke showed up, and I immediately didn't trust him. (Highkey love him ) Something about him just felt off. 👀
The first half was definitely confusing because you're given information without much backstory. Once I realized it was written like movie scenes, it made a lot more sense, especially with Luke being an actor. 🎬
And can we talk about the illustrations? They were absolutely stunning. Whoever created those for this book deserves to be a fashion icon because WOW. Every single outfit was gorgeous. ✨
The last 10% had me locked in. 😭 Now I desperately need book two because I have a theory that we've been looking at the wrong maniac (cough cough Luke) this whole time... 👀
