About the author

H.G. Ewers was the pen name of Horst Gehrmann, a German science fiction author.

After working as a car salesman, he started to study medicine in Halle in 1956, but eventually became a high school teacher instead. He fled East Germany shortly before the Wall was erected, and in 1962 published his first novel, 'Intrige auf Chibbu'. Two years later, he wrote his first Perry Rhodan novel, and ended up writing several hundred issues for the franchise.

In the 1990s, he decided to study medicine once more in Basel, Switzerland. He died at the age of 83 in 2013 in his adopted home town of Weil am Rhein.

On 1 November 2402 the Terrans discover that the solar transmitter of Andro-Beta has been destroyed following the transformation of one of its suns into a nova. That same day, spheres of energy descend on the planets of Andro-Beta and cause them to explode. Pucky and the Woolver twins remove an artificial creature resembling a jellyfish from one of these spheres. It reminds them of the androids of Gleam whose substance is identical to the jellyfish’s protoplasm. In order to conceal the Terran’s identity, duplicates of Maahks are brought into another captured sphere and the pilot of the sphere is paralyzed. This sphere leads the KHREST II, the IMPERATOR, the NAPOLEON and the ALARIC, whose spherical form has been modified, to a dark world 11,210 light years from Andro-Beta's edge. Sven Henderson, Ray Burdick, Taka Hokkado, Bron Tudd and Finch Eyseman land with a hunter. Pucky gets himself there by teleportation and encounters in a system of caves a hypnotic crystal similar to those of Celadon 7 (Greenish 7). He comes back on board the KHREST.

The Modul Baar Lun, who has the ability to transform energy into matter, supervises the production of androids. He watches as the mysterious dead Maahks brought by the sphere of energy change into balls of fire when a robot wounds them fortuitously. When the Terran hunter lands, he thinks that it is a ship of inspectors sent by the hated "Masters of the Island". For many centuries the “Masters of the Island” have threatened him with the destruction of his people in order to force him to obey their orders.

Een volgende tussenstap op weg naar Andromeda. Ondanks alle tegenslagen en moeilijkheden komt Andromeda toch stap voor stap dichterbij. In deze episode voel je dat het om een kantelmoment gaat al kan het nog alle kanten uit omwille van de grote misverstanden tussen de 2 groepen.
In korte tijd worden op meerdere vlakken heldendaden gesteld tegen een schijnbaar ongenaakbare vijand. Spanning en aktie verzekerd, met opnieuw een beetje humor al is de strijd tussen Gucky and de kwartiermeester toch niet zo erg grappig. Het meer een kwestie van de kwartiermeester belachelijk te maken dan van echte fijne humor.
Hoewel er in ruimte en tijd echt niet veel bewogen wordt, voel je gewoon dat er iets staat te gebeuren. Het is alleen niet duidelijk of het een echte stap vooruit wordt of een complete (tijdelijjke) nederlaag.

Ein klein wenig freue ich mich ja immer wenn Ewers als Autor auf dem Heft steht. Selbst wenn die Handlung, wie hier, ein Non-Event ist, so geht die Ausgabe runter wie ein guter Tee. Es macht einfach Spaß den Figuren dabei zuzusehen wie sie untereinander scherzen und sich dabei die Bälle zuwerfen.

Ewers war ein guter Tausch mit Brand.
