What an incredible book! I was feeling so many emotions when I finished it, and I still feel them every time I think about it... Help. And that ending... I need all the books right now.
I think this is one of those books that is best approached without knowing much, so you can be surprised by every chapter. It's a pretty long book, but the chapters are short and leave you eager to start the next one; it's narrated mainly from Hope's perspective, the main character; and, as an extra, the chapters have titles, which I absolutely love.
Okay so, looking at the story itself: I really liked the character of Hope, yes, "Hope", because the world needs her to survive, or so it seems. Although I think she was pretty stupid in certain situations, like in some romance parts, I feel that everything she learns and her development throughout the book are handled really well, especially considering she had no prior knowledge of magic or anything related to it.
"You're not fragile, Hope Elizabeth Goddard. You are steel, and nothing can stop you."
Also, regarding her Chosen, even though they are all pretty confused at the start, they form a really lovely team and found family; you end up loving all of them (except one, I can't really say who, but I didn't trust that character at all, so I didn't grow quite as fond of them). There are some very funny moments between them and, of course, some scenes where they suffer too. They are a group in which each one has their own personality, yet they manage to fit together.
I have to say that the girls were my favorites overall, and I don't mean her Chosen, but practically all the ones who appeared in the book. My favourites are Ronnie and Abigail, even though they had very, very different personalities, they completely won me over.
A shoutout to Abigail's final scene, what a queen! Because I would have wanted to do the exact same thing in that situation.
On the other hand, the whole magic aspect absolutely captivated me. Every time I learned a new detail I was like "yes, please, tell me more". I loved the different types of beings as humans, demons, vampires, werewolves, fae, watchers, and so on, as well as their respective powers and roles. My favourite magic was the one of Hope and her Chosen, watching her gradually learn to use itand seeing how they all work better together. Honestly, the whole conceptof the threads of power, the colors, and how they are used, I was totally obsessed with it.
As for the romance, there's a love triangle; I'm sorry to say that I knew exactly who I preferred from minute one in which the appeared, even before getting to know both guys. One of them just didn't click for me at all; the dynamic felt awkward and forced, though that's just my opinion, given that I've read about plenty of people who found it hard to pick between the two. I suppose that's the only flaw I can find, honestly, it's practically a five star read.
"And rob you of the chance to prove you didn't need a big, strong man to save you? Never. You probably would have killed me if I had."
If you know the kind of literary men I go for in fantasy, from a previous review or something, then you'll know which one I'm picking. I absolutely adored how the author handled it, making them truly question things and genuinely choose each other. And the banter and yearning, the desire and the longing, it just gets to me.
Finally, without needing to say anything else, the suffering they put me through!
An urban fantasy, with prophecies, archangels, demons, some nord mythology, powerful weapons, found family, and a romance I was totally invested in. Highly recommended. Just keep in mind that the subsequent books aren't out yet.

I think I need several business days to recover after that ending—and it’s hard to come by those in my town at this time of August.
Hope Rises is the first book in a planned Urban Fantasy series releasing on August 18, 2026. It follows twenty-year-old Hope Goddard, whose secret powers awaken when demons come for her, causing her to make a startling discovery: she is the prophesied Child of Light, one of three women destined to stand against the Hollow Circle and the dark forces they seek to unleash. Thrust into a hidden world of magic, Hope is drawn into a group of supernatural allies as she struggles to master her divine powers, and she’s caught between two very different men. One offers safety, the other is a dangerous half-demon bound to her by fate. All while the Hollow Circle continues its rise.
The series will have three separate storylines following each of the three prophesied women of the Last Battle, so this is only the beginning!
I was immediately hooked on this story when Hope wakes up in the park covered in blood and has no recollection of what happened. I love a good mystery, and I enjoyed piecing the events together as Hope's memory returns and getting eased into the paranormal world alongside her. Hope was a great protagonist in this aspect as she never lets the shocking events and revelations break her spirits. She grieves, she fears, but she also works hard to learn and prepare for the journey to come!
The Chosen and the found family that grows around them were my favorite part of this book. I especially loved the strong sisterhood that Hope and Abby build, and that becomes an anchor for Hope throughout the whole story, especially as her romantic drama unfolds.
The love interests were very well done too! It was refreshing to be able to appreciate both men vying for Hope's heart. Jason is gentle and reliable, while Kade is snarky, dangerous and severely misunderstood. Ultimately though I agree with fate: Hope and Kade belong together! This man would do anything for Hope, and he proves it right until the shocking finale. No spoilers, but I have rarely felt so betrayed by a character as much as I did in this ending (and no, it's not Kade).
There were quite a few training scenes, and these are not always my favorites. But they were well done and I appreciated that most times they included relationship building moments or world building.

SO WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ENDING????? I finished this book almost a week ago and I STILL don’t have the words to describe that cliffhanger.
This was such a well written and unique story. I was hooked almost immediately. I mean how can you not be with that opening?? I thought the world building was incredibly well done and immersive. I had an absolute blast learning all the lore alongside Hope. I love how each of her bonded brings something new to the table. They’re all so ride or die for her and each other. Except for you know who. He got me fucked up seven ways to Sunday.
I freaking LOVEEEEEED the love triangle. It was sooo well done. Usually I have a favorite, but I genuinely couldn’t choose. I think both Kade and Jason are good choices for her but each bring something different she needs in her life. But seriously, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THAT ENDING??? YOU TORE MY HEART OUT!! I freaking cried like a baby

If you love a book that has mystery, found family, the chosen one, love triangle, and deadly power, then you need to check out Hope Rises by Rachel Stones. This is the first book in a trilogy and is not a standalone, so keep that in mind. But at the same time, it set things up for the culmination of the trilogy and I enjoyed that. I'm also looking forward to reading about the other two prophesied women since I did enjoy the first book so much.

Once I got myself around the world and how the bonds worked I found myself really enjoying this book. I love the premise of it and am excited to see how this trilogy comes together.
Finishing this book a little heart broken and loving Abbie even more. She is someone we all need in our lives!

Wow for a debut novel this was amazing, it is definitely giving buffy the vampire slayer vibes mixed with your typical fantasy. I don’t like Gregory typical British watcher thinking they know best, I had a feeling that Hope was going to meet her soul mate and boy did she get a surprise. Enter Kade bad boy vibes check( he’s half demon) brooding check yearns for her check, I loved the push and pull between these characters how Hope tried to fight it but once she learned more about Kade she realised he’s really a good guy who’s had a bad life forced on him. That ending broke my heart and it’s definitely one I’m going to be thinking about for a long time, I need to know more please this can’t be the end of them we have to fix this. For my first ARC read this was epic.

Well I didn’t know if I was coming or going with this book. The love triangle was so exciting to read and I absolutely love Hope as a character. I’m excited to see where the story goes

I was scrolling Threads (as one does) in early June, looking for something to distract from the *waves arms around in a general way* when I came across a thread that asked "is anybody interested in reading a Romantasy novel that is a cross between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Crescent City?"
Well. You say: Buffy, and I am ALWAYS IN. (We are ignoring the fact that Crescent City has been on my TBR forever and I am still stuck in the weeds of Assassin's Blade. IGNORING IT.) What follows are thoughts on my ARC review:
In her debut novel, Hope Rises follows newly prophesied "Child of Light" Hope Goddard. When she wakes up bloody on a park bench in an Elsa costume with no memory of how she got that way, rent-a-cop Jason (ugh, Jason) helps her back to her dorm room on campus. When Watcher Gregory (oh, don't worry, I'll get back to Gregory) shows up to inform Hope that she is destined to stand against the forces of darkness, along with her Chosen. Queue: Training Montage in a Magical House Moment.
The Chosen correlate fairly well to a specific member of the Scooby Gang. Abigail is absolutely Willow. Her twin, Isaac, has some Xander-related vibes. Ronnie is clearly Cordelia (with an Oz flavored twist). Jason is the Riley, and the less said about Jason, the better. Because he absolutely pales in comparison to KADE.
Kade is your Angel and/or Spike. Brooding bad boy with a tragic back story who is from a hell dimension? Check. Sexy yet snarky nickname for his chosen one? ("Mi reina." *swoon*) Check. The unabashed yearning and tension because the two of them are tethered as soul mates? CHECK CHECK DOUBLE CHECK. My problem with Jason is that he is a perfectly acceptable human dude. A little too Captain 'Murica/loves his mama/Midwesterner for my taste, but once Kade shows up, the fact that Hope clearly has such a connection to him makes Jason the whitest of white bread options. And also the fact that Jason's off doing normal human guy stuff when all the magical action is happening. By the time Abigail explains Hope what being tethered to someone truly means, the idea that Hope is even questioning her "relationship" with Jason as an obstacle to being with Kade is ridiculous. JUST KISS HIM ALREADY.
Now that my Kade/Jason rant is done, it is time for the next rant: Watcher Gregory. And here is where my Buffy bias comes thru. You cannot tell me that this guy is a Watcher and then not expect me to compare him to the Daddy of all Watchers: Rupert Giles. Giles is the GOAT of Watchers and Gregory is...the exact opposite of that. At the beginning, he reminded me quite a bit of Season Three Wesley in all his stick in the mud, grumptastic, rule-abiding ways. But by the end, I was shrieking "GIRL, DO NOT TRUST HIM." And then I wanted Abigail to punch him straight in the face. (She also kicks him straight in the balls, to which I give the most standing of ovations. Bravo, Abigail.) You suck, Gregory. Groveling better be your new job, because as a Watcher, you are the literal WORST.
I really enjoyed this novel. I think the world building was excellent. I am looking forward to the next installment. I am slightly disappointed that the cliffhanger was so very cliffhanger-y and it turns out that the next book won't be dealing with Hope at all, but introducing a new character (I do not want to wait!) but I look forward to expanding this universe. The magic system was interesting, and the scenes when Hope learns to use her powers to access her Chosen's abilities were some of my favorite scenes in the story. Definitely add it to your TBR!

Hope Rises by Rachel M. Stones is an exciting, action-packed fantasy that completely swept me into its world of ancient magic, prophecy, and supernatural intrigue. From the opening chapters, I was hooked by Hope’s journey as an ordinary young woman whose life is turned upside down when she discovers she is the prophesied Child of Light. The stakes are established immediately, and they only continue to rise as the story unfolds.
One of the novel’s greatest strengths is its immersive world-building. The hidden world of Watchers, demons, witches, werewolves, and enhanced humans feels rich, layered, and incredibly well thought out. Rather than overwhelming the reader with information, the story gradually reveals its mythology, making every new discovery feel rewarding. The looming threat of the Hollow Circle creates a constant sense of tension, while the prophecy driving the narrative keeps you eagerly turning the pages.
Hope is a heroine who is easy to root for. She isn’t instantly fearless or all-powerful, and watching her struggle to understand her abilities while trying to hold onto her humanity makes her journey feel authentic. You know a book is good when it manages to catch your attention in just one chapter, and Hope Rises definitely did that for me. The opening chapter already made me feel so many things. It started really good, then somehow got even better, and before I knew it, I had reached a point where I was having such a hard time putting the book down.
The world that Rachel was able to create was incredibly immersive, and I genuinely felt like I was right there alongside the characters as everything unfolded. I could feel Hope's emotions, especially her confusion as she tried to understand what was happening to her and make sense of the people and places suddenly surrounding her. There was so much happening, but instead of feeling overwhelmed by it, I found myself wanting to discover more and understand this world together with her.
I am normally not the type of person who enjoys stories that involve love triangles because I find them way too stressful, but this one??? OMGOSH. It was really, really good. What made it even more difficult was that both of them brought something different into Hope's life. They were honestly both good for her in their own ways, which made choosing between them feel like such a genuinely difficult decision. I was stressed, but in the best possible way.
Discovering this book during one of my late-night doomscrolling sessions was honestly the best accident. Hope Rises is the debut novel of Rachel Stones, and she really started with a bang. What I especially loved was how she took some of the fantasy tropes that we are already familiar with and gave them a fresh spin, while still making the story feel completely like her own. It never felt like I was simply reading something I had seen before; there was something about the way she put everything together that made the story stand out.

I have feelings. So many feelings. 😂🖤
Hope Rises was one of those books where I found myself getting emotionally attached to the characters way faster than I expected.
Hope really stood out to me because she felt strong without being written as someone who had all the answers. I loved watching her find her footing and figure out what she wanted while everything around her kept pushing her in different directions. She has vulnerability, determination, and enough stubbornness to make me root for her even when I wanted to shake her a little. 😂
And then there’s Kade.
Kade was absolutely my problem. 🖤
I loved the tension surrounding him and Hope, especially because their connection never felt simple. There were moments where I was completely invested in them, and then there were moments where I was sitting there staring at the page thinking, EXCUSE ME?! 😭
Without getting anywhere near spoiler territory, there is a point where Kade makes a choice that really hurt. I understood that duty and circumstances played a huge part in it, but understanding the reason didn't magically make the emotional fallout disappear. And honestly, I appreciated that the story let that choice hurt. It didn't just brush past the consequences and move on.
That emotional messiness is probably what stuck with me the most.
I also really enjoyed the supernatural side of the book. The world has that addictive urban-fantasy atmosphere that makes you want to know more, and I liked how the magic and darker elements were balanced with the relationships between the characters.
But if I'm being completely honest…
I was here for the romance, and Kade had me in a chokehold. 😂🔥
Even when I was frustrated with him, I couldn't stop being invested. That's a pretty good sign that a character has gotten under my skin.
By the end, I wasn't ready to let these characters go, and I definitely need to know where everything goes from here.
Messy feelings, supernatural chaos, complicated choices, emotional damage, and one half-demon who made me question my own sanity.

Hope Rises has a little bit of everything: a compelling mystery, a complex paranormal world that coexists within our own that is filled with lore, supernatural creatures and prophecies, and a little bit of love drama to spice things up. It is the perfect read if you love the drama shows of the early 2000's!
It follows Hope Goddard, a young woman who survives a demon attack only to find out she has powers and that she is one of three women destined to protect the world from the dark cult seeking to destroy it. But there's a catch: this power could end her as well as her enemies.
One of my favorite aspects was the found family. It was so well done! Hope's Chosen are a very diverse group, each of them with their own quirks, personalities and their unique relationship with Hope. I absolutely adored all of them! Especially Kade, who was a treat for my morally gray loving heart. What can I say, I like my MMCs snarky and misunderstood!
There is a love triangle, and I loved how it was handled because it highlighted Hope's struggle between her old human life and this new, magical destiny that awaits her that comes with a shiny fated mates kind of bond. That being said, as cute as Jason is, I am team Kade ALL THE WAY!
Kudos to the author for delivering a fantastic ending that shocked and hurt me deep in my soul. I have never wanted to enter a book and hurt a character more than I did with this one. I require the next book immediately!
My only criticism (and this comes down purely to my personal preference) is that there were quite a few training scenes, and those always tend to slow down the pacing for me. But they did not affect my enjoyment of the story overall.

This book was such a fun adventure. I loved that she started out as a normal college student and had these powers thrust upon her. She had to make some quick decisions and I can't even imagine trying to get over this massive change in her knowledge of what the world is and having to learn so much. At least she was prepared to study? 😂
The whole group seemed reluctant to come together, but found their places - even if it wasn't all in the bff kind of territory. It was nice to have that dynamic because just being pulled together and having a syrupy sweet relationship just wouldn't have read as true.
I do think there was a bit more length than was strictly necessary. At just under 600 pages (691 on my Kindle!), it's a chunky book. I think it could've been executed equally as well with maybe 150 fewer pages, but that's just me. I like action and adventure more than dwelling on some kinds of conversations. It felt like the plot was a bit slower in places or we spent more time than needed in some places.
If you like the Atlas Six, humans pulled into a world of magic, or a book where it's not just about the MC - it's about the team, you may like this book.

I really enjoyed this first instalment and think it is a promising start to the series. I particularly loved the urban fantasy setting, and I found the premise and world to be unique and interesting. The book has been described as being suitable for fans of Crescent City and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and as a Buffy fan, I could definitely see some of those influences, particularly with Gregory.
I am usually not a fan of love triangles, but I thought the romance was handled well. My only issue was that the relationship with Jason felt a little too much like insta-love for my taste, although that is entirely a personal preference. I much preferred Kade and loved his brooding personality and protective, touch-her-and-you-die energy.
I also enjoyed the found family aspect of the story and the diversity within the Chosen group. The different personalities and relationships added another layer to the story and made the group dynamic enjoyable to read.

It's a debut novel and it was wow! Easy to follow and read despite the heavy world-building.
We follow Hope, a normal college student, who one day wakes up on a park bench covered in blood. Few days later she finds out that she's a chosen one and has to prepare for a battle to save the world. She'll also get a team of five highly trained bonded that will help her in her mission and become her new family.
This story is full of action and real plot twists. You will be bombarded with the thick world-building, names, creatures and beings. Great urban setting.
Romantic attraction and first feelings are quite fast paced. But when the love triangle appears we get absolutely delicious banter and yearning from the second MMC - I enjoyed every single page of it!
The ending was somehow disgusting and painful at the same time. I couldn't believe it was actually happening and I felt the pain of the characters myself. I thought that we had at least one character who won't do any stupid things...
In general it was a bit too fast and unrealistic for me how the FMC learned all her new combat and magic skills. First feelings developed also too quickly for my liking but I had to wait for the first kiss. The yearning gave me the best goosebumps since The Night Prince. But I hoped the final battle to happen in this book and not to be postponed till the fourth one.. it was a too long book for this matter for me.

Thank you Ms. Rachel, for letting me get an advanced copy! Hope Rises was so much more than just a story about magic, destiny, and saving the world. Of course, I loved the magical stuff, and Rachel had some really unique magical creatures, like the sprite stuck in the house who made Hope eat oatmeal every morning because they got off on the wrong foot. There's also a magical cat named Puck who likes to mess with people's clothes. I love how Rachel blended the real world and real places with fantasy! I wish we'd seen more of their silly antics, but what really made this book special for me was Hope's emotional journey and the people who stood by her. Watching her go from totally scared and unsure to ready to fight for what she loves was super inspiring. I especially loved her chosen family. The friendships, loyalty, and solid support between Hope and her supernatural pals brought so much warmth to the story. They weren't just a team fighting evil; they became a family, and those relationships were some of my favorite parts of the book. The romance, action, and twists kept me hooked, but it was the heart of the story that stuck with me. Rachel Stones created characters I genuinely cared about, and by the end, I wasn't ready to say goodbye; except to one character. Hope Rises is a beautiful reminder that even when things are darkest, hope, love, and the people who choose to stand by us can make all the difference.

The reader is hooked right away by the mystery of the FMC, Hope, waking up in the park covered in blood with no memories of what happened.
As she struggles to put things together, she meets Gregory Ashcroft. He explains to her that she was attacked by demons because she is the prophesied child of light, foretold to stand against the darkness with her chosen and he is her watcher.
The found family troupe is so well done in this story. Hope's choosen are a diverse group with fun personalities that make them memorable. They each have their own story and bonding moments with Hope.
The love triangle- Jason and Kade. Both characters are lovable and endearing. However, the one romance feels a bit more natural than other. I got a little frustrated with Hope at not letting it go.
But the ending, literally had to pick my jaw up off the floor. If it was possible to reach a book and punch a character, I would have. I can't wait for book two!

If you ever watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hope Rises is a love note to it. In my mind, especially season six. Just with a more annoying version of Giles. 🤣

I really enjoyed this take on a fantasy novel and the slow burn between Hope & Kade had me screaming at times x
Hope's life completely changes on Halloween Night when strange events keep happening which Hope has no recollection of, with the help of Jason (Campus Security) they think they are figuring things out when Gregory swoops in & turn everything upside down again x
Gregory seems like your typical grumpy old man (He is hundreds of years old but looks 25 at most) but he is defo got his own agenda & I don't know whether I trust him or not x
Throughout the story we get our little team - Hope (The Leader), Gregory (Grumps who always believes he is right & needs to be bossman), Twins Issac & Abigal (Earthwardens) Ronnie (Werewolf) & Kade (Neophyte), Jason is also kind of a part of the team but only for the first half of this story x
The guys go through some troubling ordeals & actually deal with so much in their short time together that most people would walk away & want to call it quits x
I felt like this story also leaves on a proper cliffhanger & not the ending I was expecting nor hoping for x
The author has a knack for making their readers engrossed from Page 1 & I'm looking forward to what happens next xxxxxxxx

I really enjoyed this book - was definitely a commitment with nearly 700 pages! The characters were fun and relatable, the magic system/world building were engaging and believable (if a Fantasy/Romantasy book can be believable!)! The beginning where the world building/character types were describes I definitely could have used a “family tree” or hierarchy draft because there was a lot (I definitely made some notes) but once you got into it a bit it all just fell into place. The YEARNING in this book - whoa! So much but in all the best ways. That ending killed me and based on the notes about future books I’m not sure how long I’ll have to wait to find out what happens next. There’s one character, who I shall not name, I hated with the fire of seven suns and they did nothing to redeem themselves - are they the antihero?!
I will note, if you’re a stickler for grammar/punctuation, there might be some annoying spots but once I got pulled in (and/or accepted they were there) I pretty stopped noticing them (maybe they got better as the book went on.

This book follows Hope, a 20 year old Yale student who is suddenly thrust into a supernatural world after witnessing a death on campus. Hope begins her Child of Light training and is now magically connected to 5 other people who have abilities of their own.
This felt very Buffy-esq. An English professor type, a young woman who is thrown into her prophesied destiny and now has powers of her own, her very own scooby gang, fighting monsters and demons, etc. I liked the side characters and the magic system. You can tell the author spent a lot of time lore and world building. It felt like the beginning of a long and intricate series in a good way.
The writing felt kind of cheesy. Like Zodiac Academy, it's not a masterpiece but it's not awful, it's just kind of cringe. The ending pissed me off so much I waited a couple of days before writing the review. I understand why the character did what he did but there were other things that could have worked and that was just the worst thing. Hope wants people to be honest with her and stop hiding things and everyone is just determined to go behind her back anyways.
I would recommend this book to people looking for a supernatural setting, found family, prophecies and destinies, unique magic, and intriguing world building.

Overall, I feel like this was a good time! Hope has so much personality and banter and she’s a great fmc! I loved the found family that was building between her and her chosen. I think her and Kade have the potential for a great story down the line and I’m excited to learn more about the prophecy and it’s back story.
On the flip side, I do wish her and Kade had a bit more of a build up. I feel like they had one conversation then suddenly every chapter where Hope saw him was her holding herself back because of what was between them or her trying to deny their connection. What connection? Y’all barely interacted. I know they’re tethered and all but I wish we could’ve seen a little more build up with them in the beginning! Some of the interactions between her and Jason felt a little off as well. It felt like he switched from talking like a 40y/o to a 20y/o every chapter.
I was a little disappointed to read that the next few books will be about the other two girls in the prophecy just because I really enjoyed Hope’s story. But I like what the author is planning for this series! I can absolutely see what her vision is and I think it’s definitely gonna attract a lot of attention!

Despite my avoidance of incomplete series, when I was able to get an ARC for this book I decided against my better judgment. I am glad I did so I could read this, but upset that I have to wait for the next book. I feel the first half of the book was a little difficult to get into as things were rushed and the overall magic system is very broad, which made things hard to track. This definitely settled and I was able to catch up and enjoy the story. I am very glad I continued, and do recommend that any readers who also have some doubts early on to keep going. The overall writing is very strong and I appreciate the somewhat different aspects of the magic systems. I'd say I am annoyed at yet another young heroine, but then I remember the reality of my knees and totally understand. I like the mix of characters and there is decent character development. This is a very strong start to a series, and I am extremely surprised this is this author's first published novel, as it does not at all come across that way.

Hope Rises was a captivating read, though I found myself caught between loving it and wanting a bit more balance.
The highlight was definitely the fantasy side: the prophecy, found family, and intense action scenes demonstrating the power system were fantastic. Hope and her Chosen had a great dynamic. The cast of characters is fun and their connection is powerful and engaging.
Where it fell short for me was the romance. Yes, it's a romantasy, so the romance was expected, but the plot felt oversaturated with it. The love triangle felt unnecessary and didn't add anything to the plot for me. Hope and Kade's storyline alone was enough. The constant thoughts about lust and want, frequently in the middle of or interrupting intense action scenes and pulling focus away from the magic lore I wanted more of, felt repetitive.
That said, the cliffhanger ending was incredible! I’m intrigued to see what comes next, even if I'm a bit hesitant about the heavy romance dynamics moving forward.

The beginning took me a little while to settle into because there’s a lot happening with the world-building and magic system, but once everything started clicking, I was completely invested. The unique magic, the growing mystery, and the found-family dynamic kept pulling me deeper into the story.
I especially loved the slow-burn chemistry between Hope and Kade—it had me rooting for them every step of the way. The cast is full of distinct personalities, and watching them come together while facing impossible odds made the story even more enjoyable.
And that ending?! I was not prepared for that cliffhanger. 😭 Now I’m going to be impatiently waiting for book two because I need answers!

Hopes rises is a page turning romantasy that follows the life of hope and her chosen as she discovers she's the child of light. The love triangle between Jason (a police officer who works on her campus and helped her through some strange and traumatic events at the beginning of the story) - kade (one of her chosen who she is also tethered to but fights it) and hope is extremely well written and you can feel the pure emotions in hope as she struggles to decide between fate and choice. The found family vibe is special and the banter is truly incredible. The whole story is fast paced and the slow burn is fire! There's action throughout with lots of fight scenes, people trying to destroy the chosen and hope and hope discovering herself and her abilities. The ending omg! There's one character I want to scream at! How could he the pompous twit! The emotional damage I feel isn't even a joke. I'm excited to dive into the next book and find out what happens next.

There is a lot to enjoy in this modern fantasy from Rachel Stones. Hope is a college student who suddenly finds herself at the center of a battle between good and evil. Some things I really enjoyed:
- the interplay of faith and mythology from different cultures
- the tension between fated mates and choosing someone to spend your life with
- you can see how many other characters’ stories could/have been set up for future books
A couple of things I struggled with:
- It felt like two books instead of one (at college and then when the story moved locations)
- I wasn’t a huge fan of the ending (but that’s just personal preference, I bet many others will love it)
All in all, a fun fantasy that will appeal to many readers!
