The story starts off with an immediate hook! It also ends in a way that makes me want to continue following the story of these characters! The friendship between Lydia and Shelb always made me smile, they really have been ride or dies for years now. The fear that Sammie has is so deep rooted and rightfully so. I wish she is one day able to heal from that and be able to feel safe in her own space.
I look forward to reading more about these characters!

This book explores themes of survival, power, and loyalty through a dark and emotionally layered storyline. The characters are complex, and the tension between the past and present keeps the plot moving steadily throughout. Lydia’s growth and the world surrounding SucIncu Privé added an interesting dynamic to the story. The writing balances emotional moments with suspense, creating a dramatic atmosphere from beginning to end. Readers who enjoy dark romance, family conflict, and high-stakes drama may find this an engaging read.

I was provided an opportunity to review this ARC and providing an honest review. This is my very first read from this author, and I must say… I was hooked from start to finish. As a matter of fact, I emailed her immediately upon finishing and asked where was the rest of the dang story. Just like a cliffhanger is supposed to do.. she definitely has me sitting up waiting to see what’s going to happen next. I’m definitely locked in for her up and coming work, and can’t wait to see how her writing develops over time. Ever chapter, every scene… it was as if I was mentally there…. Sammie sure knows how to use that cast iron!!! Great work Ashleigh. Glad to have had to opportunity to review your work in advance. Definitely a fan.

What a tangled web we weave! Especially when you have several nicknames. This book is so messy and captivating. For it to be a novella, it still provides a detailed storyline with good character development. The story centers around Sammie & Lydia's new life after escaping an abusive household. Once they have reestablished themselves some years later, old demons emerge from the past. Bringing old trauma and new drama. Sammie & Lydia have to decide if they are going to run and hide or stay and fight. Old friendships are put to the test and redefined. This is definitely a case of everybody knows everybody. All of the characters are intertwined in some way. This is a fast-paced character-driven story with lots of moving parts. Take a deep breath and re-read a chapter if you get confused. The story is multi-POV and jumps back and forth in time, but it all comes back together. Ashleigh Noelle set the stage for another juicy installment. Be prepared to want to know more. Who knows how this will all shake out in the end.

Naw he should have died the first time.
He Should've Never Came Back
At times, I had to flip back a few pages just to make sure I was reading everything correctly. This story felt like Maury and Jerry Springer collided in the middle of the streets. Every chapter had me saying, "I know you f-ing lying!"
And then there's Poker. Whew... Poker was sick, bitter, manipulative, and downright sadistic. He is the thread holding this entire twisted story together, and not in a good way. Everyone is connected like one big spider web and Poker is the spider sitting dead center, pulling every string.
Lydia and her mother, Presha, had a relationship that needed healing. I found myself wishing Lydia had shown her mother a little more grace and empathy. While I don't necessarily agree with Presha wanting to leave, sometimes people are simply trying to escape what they believe will destroy them. Other times, you have to stand your ground and fight the devil. Their relationship added another emotional layer to an already chaotic story.
I won't say too much because I refuse to spoil it, but if you enjoy messy family drama, shocking betrayals, street politics, and characters whose lives are tangled beyond belief, this book delivers. Just when you think you've figured it out, another bomb drops.
Now I'm sitting here wondering... will the spider eventually get caught in its own web?
Ashleigh definitely knows how to keep readers turning the pages, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Sammie (Pressha): I wanted to dislike her at first because I thought she was the female version of Nasir(Poker). Come to find out she was a young woman forced in the life against her will and the only thing that kept her going was the love for her child. I feel like she simply did what she had to do to get herself and her daughter out of there. She changed her daughter's name and I thought it was for keeping their identity sealed but she never changed her own name. I believe with this story I ended up with more questions that answers but that gets me excited for book 2.
Lydia: Young, thriving, survivor who learned not to take ish from anyone! I completely understand why and how dia turned out as hard as she did. She grew up watching her mom be traffiked and abused and she didn't want the same for her life. Yet, I believe because of the things she went through and witnessed it turned her into even more of a beast! I love that even though Sammie is terrified of Poker baby dia could care less and is waiting for a fight. I do hate that it seems she once had a fling with her half brother which is insane! I'm excited to see not only how she progresses in the story but how handles Poker one last time.
Shelb: Lydia's best friend and now co-worker, he's dependable and have always showed up for dia no matter what, but now that he's seeing a change in her that he don't like I'm not sure what this will mean for their friendship. They seem to be growing in different directions; Lydia is diving deeper into the lifestyle as someone who eats the weak! Shelb doesn't seem to want to be a part of that life forever or just not to that extent. I'm excited to how he handles his friendship with Lydia and also his relationship with Leon who also works with them. Shelb is the kinda friend she needs around but her new ego may be the thing to break them a part.
Nasir(Poker): TRASH. TRASH. TRASH! I would love to see a little more background on him though to find out why he is they way that he is. I want to know what his obsession is with Sammie and why he can't seem to let her go. Poker is the definition of a narcisist; he is looking to destroy anything and anyone in his path to get what he wants. It's also crazy that he gave up on his only son and his mother out of the blue one day and only looked back when he needed his son. Can't wait to see what happens to him in the next one!

Lydia's fearlessness made sense after everything she experienced, and Poker was an awful person, but I still want more of his backstory to understand what drives his crippling want for Sammie. Overall, the book answered enough to keep the story flickering with unpredictable intent pertaining to where the true danger lies.

From the very first page, I was completely hooked. This story delivers an intense blend of suspense, emotion, and psychological warfare that kept me turning pages late into the night.
