I’m not a big finance girl whatsoever, but there was so much in here that stuck with me!!! I loved the case studies and different examples of paths to retiring early. Great read!
I am providing a review for an Advanced Reader Copy that was provided to me by the author.
Cody nails it in this book on how to Retire by 30. I have been in pursuit of Financial Independence for about 12 years now, and this book distills the most important messages of the journey to Financial Independence (and Retire Early) into a concise handbook on how to achieve your own version of financial freedom at a young age.
On a personal note, I first met Cody in 2018, and I was a guest on his podcast in 2020. I have seen his journey firsthand from a new college graduate, starting and then quitting his first big-boy job, pursuing dozens of side hustles and self-employment, real estate flipping, rental investing and Airbnbs. And I've seen the life that he and his wife have been able to build in an incredibly short period of time. Will everyone be able to do that? No, not as quickly as they did. But Cody isn't gatekeeping; he lays out what worked and what didn't, and encourages the reader to find what works for them and get their financial freedom fund growing.
This book should be REQUIRED reading in every high school! If you knew this information as a teen or 20 something, you would be SO far ahead of the game! I loved the "house hacking" and that the author himself did it and explains everything. Nothing is hard to do, you just need to know what to do and stay the course. The compounding of money and interest blew my mind! And also I didn't realize how much less you would make by hiring a financial advisor! Taking one percent doesn't sound like a lot but over the years it adds up incredibly. It really is not hard to invest in index funds on your own and Cody tells you how. No gimmicks.
Where was this book when I was younger! This is the practical advice on achieving financial independence earlier in life that I needed. I am excited about making the changes identified in the book to rethink my relationship with money and undo the shackles of financial anxiety. Such an easy read, I usually find anything to do with finances and retirement complicated, this book makes it feel very doable.
Amazing book! Dare I say, it’s better, enjoyable, and more informative than my most favorite personal finance book, I Will Teach You to Be Rich by Ramit Sethi. 😉 Author Cody Berman does a phenomenal job, breaking down difficult concepts that can sometimes seem like another foreign language for me, such as real estate, tax optimization, and withdrawal strategies, into more easily understandable terms. And I really love how he objectively explores the diverse paths to financial independence. To each their own path! ✨I feel inspired! Now, time to review my notes and take action!
