A woman desperate to escape, an alien desperate to be found.
Sold off like livestock to a wealthy and abusive nobleman, Elke will do anything to escape her arranged marriage. But sixteenth century Nuremberg does not offer many opportunities for young, unmarried women, and her fate seems sealed until a chance encounter changes everything…

The only survivor of a gunship battle, Fafnersilk finds himself lost and alone on a primitive alien world. Plagued by anxiety and depression, he must battle himself as well as the threat of discovery if he ever wants to signal his people and return home. The last thing he expected to find on this mudball was friendship and certainly not love…

Flung together by circumstance in a world that seems hellbent on their mutual misery, can the pair overcome their cultural and anatomical differences to find their own happily ever after, or will fate tear them apart?

A cozy, slice-of-sixteenth century life alien romance for readers who enjoy a good slow burn and plenty of open-door spice.

Ellie Mason has been writing since she was a child, and has a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing. A huge fan of Star Trek, the 1990's cartoon Gargoyles, and RPG video games, she adores writing spicy romance stories where the heroine ends up with the alien/monster. The MMCs in her stories are always otherworldly, and always deserve to get the girl. When she isn't writing or reading, she's wrangling her chaotic family into an outdoor adventure exploring the beautiful Pacific Coast.

This book has my entire heart. I picked it up and binged it because I just couldn’t put it down.

I loved getting to know Elke and Silk (even if my brain kept calling him Fluffernutter lol)

This was such a beautiful and cozy love story, but with space dragons! I’ve read a lot of alien romance and I’ve never had the inverse happen where the alien lands in a time without plumbing or electricity and boy do I feel Silk’s frustration.

More than that I really loved the vulnerability and body image issues that Silk grappled with. And Elle’s desire to be more than just a marriage for sale.

The world and characters were so beautiful and rich and vibrant. Even the side characters jumped off the page. You can tell the care the author took in developing the setting and the characters. It was so cozy to fall in love with them as they fell in lover over the course of mundane days.

I cried when it was over because it was so beautiful but I was so sad to lose them. I can’t wait to see if there’s a book 2

Thank you so much to the author and RTSPR for allowing me to read this early!

What happens when a woman from 1561 Germany meets a stranded space dragon? Somehow, Damsels and Dragons makes that bizarre combination work!

Elke is clever, independent, stubborn, and desperate to control her own future. Silk, meanwhile, is a stranded alien drōc who is anxious, socially awkward, fiercely protective, and completely out of his element. Watching these two clash, misunderstand each other, and slowly build trust was easily one of my favorite parts.

I especially loved how their relationship grows alongside the story’s themes of freedom, belonging, self-worth, and finding people who truly understand you. Their differences create plenty of funny moments, while their emotional vulnerability gives the romance more depth.

The historical setting mixed with alien technology creates such a unique atmosphere—like a dark historical fairytale colliding with sci-fi.

Overall, this was an unusual, character-driven romance with a memorable central pairing and plenty of emotional moments.

I genuinely couldn’t put it down. That was such a lovely story. Love, acceptance, friendship- it was all there! The romance was just swoon worthy. The poetry 😍
It was a very well written, cosy, easy to read love story with lots of other elements thrown in, history, religion, low self esteem, differences in the two main characters, but then brought together by their similarities. Being two lost souls in one large galaxy. Quote- ‘He is a survivor, just like me’
The book was very spicy once it got going which really blended into the story well.
The ending was lovely and I will definitely be looking out for book 2.

Favourite quote ‘ I’m yours too silk. I’d love to see the stars with you’ 😍

This was such an adorable read! I loved the way the story meshed the historical romance and sci-fi romance aspects together and it was done so seamlessly in a way that brought out the best of both genres while also letting them work harmoniously.

Elke and Silk stole my heart in every way. Elke’s desire for independence and her personal struggles were perfectly executed and dovetailed perfectly into Silk’s own battle with anxiety, depression, and body image issues. They complimented each other so well and their happier moments were so rewarding because we saw how much they helped each other grow, making each one sweeter!

I’m excited to see how the story continues in book 2!

This is a cute, cozy, spicy fantasy. I enjoyed watching Elke and Silk’s characters develop over the course of the novel. Watching Elke turn into a capable person on her own with her own identity was so nice. She really comes out of her shell, especially with Silk. I loved watching him open up to her because they’ve created a safe space for each other.

The ending was so sweet. Not only did they have a safe place to live and be, they both had jobs and ways to survive but also they had a daughter. It really was fate that Leise stumbled into Elke that day and I’m glad that they seemed to have lived as a happy family.

Thank you to the author and RTSPR for the ARC.

SUCH a sweet sci-fi/monster historical romance!! I really loved the tenderness of both the FMC and the MMC. Even though both of them experienced tremendous loss and abandonment, they found ways to create their own family.

This was a great blend of heartwarming and heat. You will get to know the alien anatomy very well 👀.

Thank you to the author and rattle with the stars for the ARC!
