This is the third book in this phenomenal series, and this is Darren and Macie’s story.
Darren is a single dad to his adorable little girl, and he is a law enforcer officer, while Macie is a labor and delivery nurse. Darren is drawn to Macie from the moment he sees her, and when she becomes the target of a dangerous patients ex, she show is at his door bruised and shaken, and he will for what he must to keep her safe and protected.
This is a well written easy to read story, with found family, friendships, emotions, vulnerability, challenges, danger suspense, intrigue, romance, survival, trust, close proximity, humour, witty banter, engaging and realistic characters, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, unpredictable, and heart-pounding, addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Darren and Macie have been hanging with each other for a few months, hut when she's attacked there's only one place to seek refuge and that in his arms. Darren knew she was special to him but when she came knocking battered and bruised he knows she's right where she's supposed to be - in him arms.
I absolutely love Laramie Briscoe and her blue collar stories. Every time I pick up her books I know I'm in for a treat.

This is a terrific romantic suspense. Darren is a divorced single dad, officer who falls for Macie. She’s perfect for him and in need of his protection. He’s more than happy to do whatever it takes to make her his and keep her safe. I loved Macie’s character too. She’s vulnerable but so trusting of him. This a great story.

Laramie Briscoe can write a first responder, alpha hero who loves, protects, and takes care of those he loves like no other author around. Darren is everything his daughter Nicole and FMC Macie need. Nothing is sexier than a single father who is confident, loving, and focused on being the best parent they can for their child.
This book starts with Macie in desperate need of TLC. She has been growing closer to Darren and instinctively heads to him after being attacked.
Darren's feelings for Macie have been growing ever since he met her at the local bar, the Lean To. Now that she has come to him in her time of need, he is convinced that she is his person. He takes care of her and keeps her safe without having to question anything; it just feels right and the natural thing to do. As a member of the Laurel Springs law enforcement, he and his family (also members of the local law enforcement) help Macie after she is attacked by a patient’s husband. With a little bit of action to take down the attacker before Darren, Nicole, and Macie get the HEA they deserve, this book will not disappoint those who have been following the series.
I’ve been anxiously awaiting this book after reading Book 2, Dakota’s story and I enjoyed every moment. While there was less action than the first two in the series, we got just as much heart and heat. We are introduced to Van who is the MMC in the next ‘episode’ of The Laurel Springs Fish & Wildlife Series.

I really want get enough of laramie's writing and how intertwined all the story's are between her laurel springs group. and i feel now that were on to the next or is it the third generation and how its expanded into fish and wildlife seems natural. though really the goat chasing scene was awesome even if just alluded to.... ok no spoilers!
Darren is our sexy single dad and well his night got changed a few months back at the lean to when he danced with macie... the thoughts and longing it seems to have just produced her from thin air till after answering his door to her he needs to call on all the training when he finds out why she's there
call it protective or what ever might fit but tramping down the urge to burn the world down for her ( I'm sure its ingrained in the keepler name) he vows then to protect her and keep her safe.
macie doesn't remember the drive or the why she's drawn to Darren other than feeling safe. but that night she allows some one to step up for her take care of her and through the book she understands she made the right choice
together they grapes a quick romance into something neither knew they needed can you see the growth and can see what comes next for them.
though tragedy brought them together fate made it they were made for each other too. grab the book and fall for this little family and see how they come through to a happy after

Laramie Briscoe knows exactly how to write a hero who gets under your skin, and Darren is absolutely no exception. There’s something about him that pulled me in from the beginning—the confidence, the protective side, the vulnerability underneath it all—and I was completely invested in his story.
What I loved most was getting to see the softer side of Darren. Watching his relationship with Macie develop and seeing the emotions, chemistry, and tension build made it impossible for me to put this book down. The romance had that perfect mix of swoony moments, emotional depth, and enough heat to keep me turning the pages.
And can we PLEASE talk about the chemistry?! 🔥 Because these two had me sitting there like, “Oh… so we’re just going to destroy my emotional stability today?” 😂
There were moments that made my heart ache, moments that had me grinning like an idiot, and plenty that had me screaming internally. Darren is the kind of hero who reminds you why you keep coming back to romance—because sometimes you just need to watch two people find their way to each other.

This is book three in The Laurel Springs Fish and Wildlife series and it is Darren and Marcie’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. Darren is part of the law enforcement and also a single dad to Nicole after his divorce and also never wanted to put himself in that position again but when he met Macie at a bar he definitely felt something for her. Macie is a nurse and while walking to her car after a shift she is viciously attacked and the only person that she could think of to help her is Darren because when they met there was a definite connection with them. When Macie turns up at Darren’s house in a bad condition he is definitely determined to help her and also find the person responsible and bring them to justice regarding of the situation or circumstances involved. The more time that Darren and Macie spend together the stronger the feelings and bond between them grows but will they have a future together and become a family with Darren and his daughter Nicole who is sweet and adorable. I absolutely loved Darren and Macie’s story and was able to read it in one sitting as it was so addictive and kept my attention throughout. I look forward to reading the next book in this amazing series.

I liked that the chemistry between them didn't come out of nowhere. Their relationship had already been developing before the story begins, so the transition from a situationship to a committed romance felt natural. This 3rd generation series is as good as the previous ones. The characters are charismatic in their individual way and Darren and Macie compliment each other's personality. He works as an officer for the LSF&W and she is a nurse. He is a single dad with a lovely 2 year old and she is a single, independent woman..until one night and one person changed it all. Being attacked outside the hospital causes Macie to drive to Darren's house for safety. He is to be her anchor and she in turn, becomes his. They are a well matched couple and it is interesting to see how their relationship develops quickly but honestly. Friends to lovers, the atmosphere is electric as feelings begin to surface and emotions take hold. Their investment in each other is shared by his family and the evening at the dinner table, with Nicole comes naturally to the fore cementing their situation.
There is chemistry, with subtle hints of caring, contentment and admiration between them. An engaging and entertaining storyline and I liked how it is brought to a close....Epilogue 1 is their time, but epilogue 2 is definitely the beginning of something to look forward to next

This is the 3rd book in The Laurel Springs Fish and Wildlife Series featuring Darren and Macie's 2nd chance, single dad,law enforcement, small-town, suspenseful romance. Darren is a single-dad who works in law enforcement and Macie is a nurse who works at the hospital and they meet each other at their local bar The Lean To. Darren asks Macie to dance and after a few dances it was crystal clear that there were sparks between them however Darren has his daughter Nicole to take care of since her mother left them. Everything changes when Macie shows up at Darren's door in the middle of the night shaken and bruised asking not to be alone. Darren knows right then that he'll do everything in his power to protect Macie because whether they were looking for it or not she's his. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this wonderful 2nd chance, single-dad, law enforcement, small-town romance full of danger, love ,suspense etc. to see what happens. I would definitely recommend reading this book as well as the previous books in this wonderful series.

This is the third book in the series and is about second chances, family, loyalty, love, and finding the one that makes you feel at home and safe. Macie is a nurse who typically works in the ER or labor and delivery. When the father of a patient's baby requests to see his child and the mother refuses him stating that she has a restraining order against him, Macie calls security and the police to have him removed. Macie immediately forgets about the man and carries on with her shift until she runs into him in the parking lot on the way to her car where he attacks, leaving her bruised and bloody.
Darren who works for Fish & Wildlife met Macie at a popular bar and they continued to see each other. Macie is reluctant to go home and heads to Darren, as he makes her feel safe. Darren takes charge and makes sure that she files a report and has pictures taken of her injuries while opening his home to her while she heals.
While I found the ending a bit anticlimactic, this couple does get a well-deserved HEA.

A great romantic suspense from Laramie

First responders and hospital personnel are especially selfless so when they allow themselves to choose something or someone for themselves that person is special. Darren and Macie fit that description. They’ve been taking it slow building their relationship until Macie is attacked and realizes Darren is her safe space.
For Darren, taking care of Macie makes him realize what he has been missing since his marriage ended.
These characters really came alive for me. I cried reading of Macie’s attack as the description felt so real. I absolutely loved Darren! He is the ultimate alpha-protector and such a fantastic single dad. His devotion to his little girl, Nicole, completely melted my heart right from the start. The connection between Darren and Macie was incredible—their chemistry crackles and pops on every single page. I loved how Darren instantly became her safe space when things turned dangerous, stepping up to protect her without a second thought. Watching Macie learn that it’s okay to lean on someone and ask for help was so beautiful. This story is the perfect blend of small-town sweetness, intense suspense, and plenty of spice. When she is attacked, she goes to Darren and the man is willing to do anything to protect the woman he is falling for. I don't think I can tell you much more about this book and not give something away. This book was so good. I loved Macie and Darren. You will also not be able to put this book down once you pick it up. This is a great read that you do not want to miss.

Darren is book 3 in The Laurel Springs Fish & Wildlife Series written by the amazing author Laramie Briscoe. We met Darren Kepler, a third-generation law enforcement officer with a toddler in Nick and Kelsey’s book. This is Darren and Macie's story. Macie is a nurse working in the Laurel Springs Hospital. The way this man is all in from the beginning, he's confident and protective and has big feels. This story tugs at your heartstrings with moments of vulnerability, found family and twists and turns that you won't see coming. It is nice to have the side characters from the previous books as part of the story and continued found family for Macie and Darren. A must read for any fan of Laramie and her Laurel Springs books. Can't wait for Van's book!!!

Suspense and romance all wrapped into one! Darren has been a single dad and met Macie at a local bar. They’d had several interactions of talking and dancing where they hit it off. One night after work Macie was attacked by a patient’s estranged partner and the only place she felt safe to go was Darren’s house. While working through her recovering their relationship blossomed and sparks flew! Being around Darren and his daughter felt like home for both of them! He is protective of her and wants to take care of her and she learns that it’s ok to ask for help and allow someone into her life. Love their chemistry and the suspense was intermixed well! Can’t wait for the next story!

It’s so fun to follow this much loved series through to next gen of the next gen and Darren is a loved character from the earlier books
I did feel like I missed a little of back story with him getting married etc, it was filled in later but only light touch.
Despite this, the story that built up between him and Macie was built on their deep feelings for each other. Slightly instalove, Darren definitely knew what he wanted and went for it hard

This could be a stand alone but you'd miss all the juicy bits that got us to this point.
Darren and Macie start out as dancing partners whenever they meet up at the local hang out. They both have their own baggage.

A tragic circumstance brings them in close proximity. Their chemistry is intense.
This story is chuck full of everything.

Single father, Darren is a wildlife officer in our favorite town of Laurel Springs. He is also Menace’s grown-up grandson. He has been seeing Nurse Macie and on her worst night ever, she needs help and shows up at his home for safety and comfort. Protecting Macie and keeping her safe amps things up for Darren and while she is staying with him and his little daughter, they take their relationship to the next level while her attacker is still on the loose.
This is a short story, easy to read and not really a lot of steam. We also get to see some of our favorites from previous Laurel Springs series.

Great story. Macie is a nurse who is attacked after work by a man who had a restraining order against him and he took his anger out on her. She turns to Darren as she doesn't want to be alone and he becomes protective of her and insists that she stay with him till the guy is caught. Their connection that they have been exploring for six months will blossom into more and his daughter will accept Macie as she is. This book is full of drama, danger, tangled emotions and has a happy ending. I enjoyed reading this book.

This started with a dark blast that had Macie running to safety. Darren was her safe place and I absolutely understood why. These two had chemistry and spark, but they were also grounded, steady and solid. There’s wonderful family that brings the exact right amount of support.

The Love story between Darren and Macie was heartfelt. It was like a story that you could hear from a member of your own family.
I appreciated that the author wrote Darren as a single father positively. He was hardworking with a strong support system around him. And Macie turning up on his doorstep for help when she did was right for them both. Darren needed a reason to believe in love again. Macie needed a reason not to be afraid of it.
Through the chapters, the author weaves a story of friendship, family, and love despite the dangers lurking in the shadows. And that once making the choice giving love a shot it was the best thing one could ask for.
