Ancient secrets are not found in books—they are lived in the shadows.
When a group of students discovers an ancient, mystical manuscript in an old historian’s library, they are thrust into a world they thought existed only in legends. Transported back to the era of the Zaporozhian Cossacks, they encounter a legendary "Kharakternyk" (a Cossack warrior-mage) who decides to teach them the ancient secrets of the invincible warriors.
This story is a thrilling blend of historical accuracy and mysticism, where the rational laws of science bend to the will of ancient spirits. Drawing from the author's own spine-chilling experiences in the lightless depths of underground labyrinths, the narrative offers:
Mastery of Will: Follow the heroes as they train in places of ancient power to master the "magic" of courage and tradition.
Authentic Tradition: Inspired by real-world collaborations with martial arts masters and professional stunt performers, every battle and ritual carries the weight of history.
A Bridge Between Worlds: Learn how the lessons of the past can be used to rebuild national pride and strength in the modern world.
Complete with references to cultural and historical materials, this book is an essential read for students, educators, and anyone seeking to connect with the heroic spirit of Ukraine. Step into a world where legend meets reality and discover the power within.

Yuri Derevyanchenko is a Ukrainian author and creative developer with a background as diverse as the legends he writes about. With a formal education in physics and mathematics and years of experience as a teacher, Yuri spent over a decade in the entertainment industry as a screenwriter for stage plays and creative events.
Today, he balances his rational scientific mind with deep spiritual practices and a passion for Ukrainian history. His writing blends historical accuracy with the mystical world of "kharakternyks" (Cossack sorcerers), bringing ancient legends to life for modern readers. As a professional environmentalist and researcher of nature conservation, Yuri weaves the power of the natural world into his storytelling, creating immersive and atmospheric historical fantasy.
Many episodes in his stories, including the chilling journey through the dark Anthony Caves, are based on the author's personal experiences. The emotions felt by his characters while wandering through underground labyrinths in total darkness are authentic and personally lived. Yurii’s professional background in event production provided him with a unique opportunity to work with experts in their craft: the descriptions of Cossack martial arts in his books are inspired by his collaboration with professional stunt performers and martial artists who trained at the Shaolin Monastery and performed on the legendary Khortytsia Island. Today, Yurii creates stories where legend meets reality.
