This book said: “Why waste time on denial, groveling, evidence gathering, or emotional reflection when we could immediately set everybody’s lives on FIRE instead?”
And honestly? I respected the efficiency. 😭
This was fast-paced revenge chaos from page one. The husband gets caught cheating immediately, the wife immediately chooses violence, and within like twenty-four hours everybody’s careers, reputations, finances, and emotional stability are collapsing in real time. No endless “should I stay?” chapters. No eighty-page misunderstanding arc.
And you know what? I had FUN. Was it realistic? Absolutely not. Was it emotionally nuanced? Also no. Did I still enjoy watching two terrible people get publicly waterboarded by consequences? Deeply. Spiritually. With my whole chest.
Also shoutout to Crystal for not wasting twelve business months crying over a man who cheated on her in THEIR HOUSE while their child was downstairs napping.
Queen behavior.
And Maverick? Honestly this man walked into the story like: “Hello beautiful betrayed woman. Would you like assistance ruining your enemies and orgasms at the same time?” As he should.
⚠️ SPOILERS BELOW ⚠️
No seriously. If you don’t want the revenge tea spoiled, leave now.
Because this book moves at the speed of a flaming train wreck and I need to discuss it IMMEDIATELY.
So the story literally opens with Crystal walking in on her husband Johnson cheating on her with Natasha — her childhood bully — while their toddler naps downstairs and she’s holding their baby.
I’m sorry but the LEVELS of disrespect here??? Astronomical.
And Johnson immediately pulls the classic: “Baby it’s not what it looks like—”
SIR. IT LOOKS LIKE INFIDELITY. WE HAVE EYES.
But Crystal doesn’t scream. She doesn’t throw things. She doesn’t collapse dramatically onto the kitchen floor. No. This woman kicks them both out and then IMMEDIATELY goes to meet her husband’s biggest business rival THAT SAME NIGHT. I knew right then this book was going to be unhinged in the best possible way.
And honestly Johnson may be one of the dumbest cheating men I’ve read in a while because WHY does your wife know all your passwords if you’re out here committing financial crimes AND adultery simultaneously???
Pick a struggle.
Apparently this man has: ✨ shady business dealings ✨ hidden financial fraud ✨ illegal activity ✨ affair partners ✨ no survival instincts whatsoever
So Crystal and Maverick immediately start dismantling both Johnson and Natasha’s lives.
Johnson starts losing: — clients — business partners — legal protection — eventually his freedom
Meanwhile Natasha — who is an influencer with almost a million followers — starts getting publicly exposed as a bully and horrible person online.
And I’m not gonna lie… Watching Natasha’s cancellation unfold in real time was BRILLIANT.
This woman really thought she was going to steal somebody’s husband and continue posting skincare reels uninterrupted. 😭
No ma’am. You’re getting hashtagged into oblivion.
And somehow the book gets EVEN MORE ridiculous because Crystal and Maverick start sleeping together almost immediately and normally I would’ve side-eyed that…
BUT. Her husband hadn’t touched her since she got pregnant because apparently he found pregnancy unattractive???
JAIL. PRISON. DUNGEON.
So honestly? Good for her. And the revenge escalates SO quickly that within like a day: ✨ divorce papers are filed ✨ businesses are collapsing ✨ followers are disappearing ✨ sponsorships are gone ✨ federal investigations are looming
Everybody’s life is basically exploding simultaneously while Crystal and Maverick stand there like two Bond villains holding champagne.
Then we get the final restaurant confrontation scene which honestly felt like the ending of a reality TV reunion special.
Johnson and Natasha get tricked into showing up thinking they’re meeting some big business opportunity… …but instead the restaurant is FULL of influencers, media people, and cameras waiting for the drama.
And Maverick and Crystal walk in basically like: “Surprise bitch. We orchestrated your downfall.” ICONIC.
Johnson then lunges at Crystal because apparently he still hasn’t developed emotional regulation skills, and Maverick immediately steps in with: “Don’t touch her. I love her.”
Cue every phone in the restaurant recording. Cue Natasha’s final mental breakdown. Cue me cackling.
And honestly? I appreciated that this book never really tried to redeem the cheaters.
No tragic backstory. No “they made mistakes.” No “love is complicated.”
Nope. Just: “These people suck and now their lives are ruined.”
Simple. Clean. Efficient.
By the end: ✨ Johnson is headed toward prison ✨ Natasha loses everything and changes her name ✨ Crystal thrives ✨ Maverick thrives ✨ the kids THRIVE ✨ revenge is complete
Honestly? Sometimes you don’t need literary depth.
Sometimes you just need a woman to burn her cheating husband’s entire life to the ground before chapter five. And this book DELIVERED. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sleeping With My Enemy was about 32-year-old Crystal Divers, the owner of an art restoration business, and 36-year-old Maverick Nichols, the owner and CEO of his own tech empire.
Crystal had been married to Johnson, the owner of Divers Tech Solutions, for three years and had two daughters: two-year-old India and two-month-old Hazel. She had taken Hazel to the doctor and arrived home earlier than planned, only to find Johnson in their bed with Natasha Lightone, the woman who made her childhood a living hell. She knew Natasha had planned to destroy her marriage from the look on her face when they realized she was in the room. Crystal kicked them both out, with Johnson telling her he would call her "when you've calmed down", and Natasha telling her that Johnson had never been hers to begin with. Once they had left, Crystal began photographing the evidence and called a divorce attorney...and Maverick Nichols, her husband's biggest business rival.
Between them, Crystal and Maverick "systematically dismantled" her ex-husband and her childhood bully, and they did it all in a matter of weeks. The conflict was resolved so fast that the story was over almost before it began. All the deconstruction was done behind the scenes; there was very little contact between the cheaters and Crystal or Maverick, and even the unlawful acts found completion in less than a year. All that to say... the book was not quite believable... but it was fun to read. The only thing I didn't enjoy was how quickly the intimate relationship between Crystal and Maverick started. I had hoped the author would have allowed that to wait until after she was divorced, but that was too much to ask for, I guess. Still, I gave it a two-star rating.
All right, the revenge for this relationship was top-notch. The plot was great. I love the characters. Her ex-husband was butthole and so was her best friend. But she got her happy ending and she is the revenge queen.
There’s a cheating husband, the high school bully who is the affair partner, and two daughters, one of whom is two months old. The husband is just despicable. He brings the bully into his own home with one of the daughters in the next room. The bully of course had targeted him because she was still bullying the FMC.
The FMC then contacts her husband’s business rival, and they meet… and revenge plans follow.
KU and this has a wonderful format, with what appear as hand drawn inserts in front of certain chapters. And they tell a little story themselves. This is really interesting and very cute. I like this one.
This appears to be more of a summary presented with bullet points rather than a narrative exploring how betrayal can alter and negatively impact an individual's life path. I perceived the writing as somewhat hurried and clinical, lacking the intricate details that would convey the complexities of a life affected by such an experience. I personally felt a sense of disappointment due to the superficial manner in which this story was conveyed. There was certainly an opportunity for a more thorough development.
Felt like the author forgot about the daughters or at least one of them whenever they were mentioned. I'm all about revenge and I love that Crystal went for broke. Girl power and all that. But there are a number of small issues throughout the book, leaving me to wonder if one of the daughters and some of the details were added in haphazardly.
A betrayal so deep that Crystal thought she might not survive, but with the help of her husbands rival, Maverick a planned revenge took both her husband and his lover down!
I enjoyed the story. Revenge is always a good one in romance. However. I did read of some discrepancies with Hazel and India. Possible Spoiler: And the fact that no child conceived between Maverick and Crystal.
You have to suspend reality but who doesn’t with fiction? There is insta love, insta divorce and insta revenge and I am here for it. I liked the writing style. I loved the story and it was a quick and satisfying read.
When they thought Crystal was weak, they both found out how wrong they were. With Maverick help she brought down Johnson and Natasha. They both had thought the could just cheat in her martial bed a get away with it.
I know a good person doesn't seek revenge, a good person will forgive. BUT, sometimes people just need to be put in their place and revenge is the best way to do that, so they actually learn from it. Great book Poe. I look forward to your books!!!
