The body of an unidentified man found in the forgotten outskirts of Boston seems like a mugging gone wrong. However, when it is discovered that his face and fingerprints are encrypted in the national database, rising uncertainty about who he is and who is responsible forces the FBI to turn to a new partnership in a race against time.
Four years after a tragedy in the field, Special Agent Lance Foley finally returns to Boston to face his own demons, only to find himself thrust into a case with more questions than answers. Cyber agent Gabriela Alvarez, adept at cracking cases from behind a computer, never expected to be called into the field. Thrown together, they must solve the missing man’s identity, relying on both of their unique skill sets, before his killer becomes an untraceable ghost.
A second body raises the stakes, and soon they start to suspect a deeper conspiracy. Building tensions in their partnership and mounting pressure will push Foley and Alvarez to their limits. Each clue, digital and physical, drags them further from John Doe, and soon they find themselves uncovering connections they never expected.
Secrets hidden in the code will not stay secrets forever. The question is, how many people must die before the truth is uncovered?
From a young age, Mikyla Bowen filled notebooks with math problems and creative stories. Now, as a debut author with a degree in data science, she codes and writes on a computer, but her passion is unchanged.
An avid reader, Mikyla has always enjoyed thrillers and mysteries, but realized few crime novels had a technology-driven plot. Mikyla recognizes that, as exciting as data is for her, the challenge is inspiring people to engage and care about it. Bridging her two interests, she focuses on crafting compelling narratives that address current technology and its ethics, while also featuring thrilling, fast-paced plots, designed for readers of all backgrounds.
When she’s not writing or analyzing data, you'll find her enjoying the outdoors: skiing, running, biking, and playing soccer. She also likes exploring the world through books, art, and travel.
Hidden in the Code marks the beginning of a new writing journey. Mikyla invites readers to stay connected through her Instagram (@mikyla_bowen) and website (MikylaBowen.com).
Fast-paced, fun, and really engaging! Loved the blend of tech and mystery together. It was a total page turner. Can’t wait to read book two with Alvarez and Foley!
This is an absolute page turner! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and the story was full of clever plot twists. The character development was outstanding, making it easy to become emotionally invested in the characters and mystery. It was a quick read, and the author wonderfully wove in meaningful morals and relevant real world topics that make for great book discussions. I 100% recommend it!
10/10 would read again! I will say this isn’t my typical read but I absolutely loved it! Amazing plot and well developed characters!! I can’t wait for her to write another one :)
