Salvator Butler was my uncle.I have letters from him from Assisi his retirement home. He wrote and illustrated a story book for me and my brothers in 1938. His mother and sister (my mother)lived in our family home. He in Rome. A kind gentleman with a fine sense of humor. D. R. Saxton at saxtondonald225@gmail.com.

This book needs to be read as a product of its time. Within this, the temperament and dedication of Francis of Assissi is timeless in its potent compassion.

Took a while to read it. It was thought-provoking and needed to be read in bits and pieces. Provided me insight regarding St. Francis' holiness from the perspectives of his fellow "brothers".

Reading this book made me realize how radical St. Francis of Assisi was in his love of the poor. His asceticism is truly remarkable.
