I started reading Marcus shortly after finishing Death Knocks. Even though it's a quick read, you get to see another layer of Marcus' character and that of the BEKs. Marcus was probably my favorite from book one, and it still holds. You feel for the guy, with all of the realizations he's going through. The ending caught my surprise, so now I've got to see the conclusion of book 3!
I received an advanced copy an volunteered to review. But if you disliked Marcus for what he appeared as in the first book, don't skip this one and go to book three. You'll probably change your opinion of him if you read this one.

Following on from Death Knock it is good to get Marcus's perspective, to fill in some of the gaps when he and Cadence were taken.

Marcus has a lot going on in his mind. He is hungry but not for food, he wants to fight the need to feed on souls. He misses his family greatly and this too weighs heavily on his mind. Marcus is scared for himself and for others. He has to come to term s with the knowledge that he is alive but also accept that he also falls under the heading Black-Eyed-Kids.

You can't help but feel for Marcus and let him into your hearts.

Marcus takes up about 2/3 the way through book 1 of Death Knocks, a TA/YA urban legend fantasy. I really like Marcus's character. He is required to learn to deal with his new life as a dark eyed kid (DEK) including feeding. Marcus has a recreational drug use past, loves using the word shiitake, and has a strong protection streak for his family and friends. Marcus is a short novelette great for an hour commute ! Mr. Simpson did an excellent job narrating.

Marcus by Miranda Hardy and Jay Noel is a great book in the Death knocks series. Marcus' life has drastically changed after he is turned into a black eyed kid. He can never return home to his family or friends. This story follows him as he tries to make sense of everything. I can't wait to read the rest of this series. This is an author I highly recommend and I can't wait to read more by her.

I received a copy of this book for free from the author as an ARC and have voluntarily chosen to review it
This was an enjoyable short tale to fill in and help you understand what happened to Marcus. He does not want to be a BEK and fights against it. You really have to admire his courage in this story.

If you haven't read Death Knocks before reading this one, then that's a must. This short novella is all about Marcus, who you meet in Death Knocks. In this quick read you learn about what happened to Marcus and how he became a black eyed kid and how he's handling the change.

I enjoyed this book, I was hoping it would be a little longer but it's a really great short book to learn more about the character Marcus in the Black-Eyed Kids series. I liked learning his side of the story and I look forward to finding out what happens in the third book.

This is a awesome novella on the back story of Marcus and what happened during that blank time when he became a BEK (black eyed kid), even though his turning did not exactly go as planned, and now he still doesn't want to be BEK and is resisting. Despite the urges Marcus, with Astid there to help, isn't going to bend to Level Six's will and be what he knows he is not. But he will use some of his new found abilities for good, like scaring his little brother and his friends into not using drugs.

This was a really good back story, and you got to learn a lot about Marcus, his dreams and what he was really like, not just what he portrayed on the outside and that was special. Jeff Simpson the audiobook narrator does a awesome Marcus and that made this book the much special. This novella still had the action and suspense that you are used to from this series so no worries, the BEK's never disappoint.

This novella is sad, funny and scary all at the same time. It is a continuation of Death Knocks series expanding the story of Marcus, an ex-stoner turned Black-Eyed-Kid by a secret government organization. You can not help but like Marcus' character, he is funny and appealing but your heart breaks for his losses and the life that has been forced on him. It gives us I site into his thought, back story on what happened to him and also hints of what the gang might face in the future from Level 6. This audiobook has the same excellent narrator as Death Knocks and he once again does a great job of bringing the book to life and infusing personality into the characters. It is a fast entertaining novella but you will get more from it if you read the first book in the series first.

I really enjoyed Death Knocks awhile back and I’m glad that this shorter piece, a novelette, was available in the Prime program. I was again immersed in the world of Black Eyed Kids, the organization that is responsible for them, their emotional turmoil, and their lifestyle of sucking the life force of humans.

I love the character of Marcus! This novelette gives us some insight into his head as well as snippets of what happened to him after he was captured. It also gives a little foreshadowing of what the gang will face at Level 6. Overall, it is a great short story. I can't wait for the next chapter!

I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
