Wonderful book. For those interested in seeing the Christic path at it's earliest formations. The core path of union with the Divine is one. Cassian is in harmony of the way. We call this the middle path. In this book we see age old spiritual conundrums: practice and grace, living in the world but not of the world, tradition and adaptation, theology and spiritual practice, spiritual direction and personal practice, silence and prayer, prayer and scripture, and more.
We see that Cassian negotiates these with wisdom and in era of great debate of what the Christic path is he shines as a balanced practitioner. Especially between understanding the role of grace, spiritual direction and one's own efforts to awaken.
It's great to see the Tibetan Christic (Buddhist) path so clearly practiced in the Desert of Egypt before it made it's way to Tibet. For those who understand that what they practiced in Tibet was Christianity this will be of interest.
Four stars not five because there isn't that much material on Saint John Cassian and the themes slightly tend to repeat in order to bulk out the book.
