Even though I’m not really a thriller reader (I might pick up only one or two a year), I’m so happy I gave this one a chance because I was completely hooked!

One of His is a cat-and-mouse psychological thriller set in London, following Eve, an artist who is abducted by a serial killer, and Chris, the police officer determined to rescue her. The premise itself sounds intriguing, but the execution is what really makes this book stand out.

The story moves between two timelines, before Eve’s abduction and after, while also switching between different POVs. I loved this structure because we’re often shown an action or decision first and only later learn what motivated it, or we see something happen without immediately knowing what consequences it will have. As the different pieces of the story start falling into place, you’re constantly rethinking things you thought you already understood. This made the book ridiculously addictive. I struggled to put it down, and the pacing was so good throughout. It also avoided one of my biggest problems with books built around secrets and twists: when a POV character clearly knows something but conveniently keeps it from the reader just so the author can reveal it as a plot twist later. None of that here. The way the timelines and POVs are arranged allows information to be withheld naturally without making the characters’ perspectives feel dishonest.

And speaking of twists, several genuinely caught me off guard. I don’t mean the identity of the killer, because that’s revealed relatively early. This is more of a psychological thriller than a traditional murder mystery, so the real questions are about the circumstances surrounding the murders, how everything connects, and ultimately, why. Some of those revelations were definitely not what I expected, and I really liked where the story ended up. The ending worked really well for me too.

Obviously, this book goes to some very dark places, so it won’t be for everyone, but I had such a good time with it. Considering thrillers aren’t even one of my usual genres, the fact that this had me glued to the page says a lot. I’m completely sold and would happily read whatever Alina Bellchambers writes next in this genre!

This is a unique thriller in that we follow dual timelines, then and now, as well as multiple pov. This really worked for me and kept me reading so I could connect the dots.

I really enjoyed that this book is dark, suspenseful and full of twists. Some are predictable, some are surprising and every single one is fun to pin on the murder board as we unravel this mystery together.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy thrillers that are dark, suspenseful with a bit of spice and gore that have a deeply satisfying ending, at least in my opinion.

From the very first chapter of this book, I was hooked. Bellchambers writing style is so addictive, every chapter rolls off the tongue in a way that's so easy to digest. You tell yourself "one more page" and find yourself another 5 chapter deep at 2AM. I commend her seamless segway into the thriller genre, in hopes that she cotinues there.

The premise of the book itself is immensley intriguing; An artist forced to create art of dead women (who look exactly like her, no less) while wondering if she'll become the last painting herself. I also enjoyed Chris' POV, typically split-POVs and dual timelines infurate me -- I feel as though as soon as one part of the book is getting good, I'm ripped away to be forced to read something else entirely. But Alina Bellchambers does a great job of balancing both POVs and timelines -- there's always something happening to be interested by.

The only part of the book I slightly disliked was the lack of mystery surrounding who the Artistic Killer was, it was pretty clear from their introduction who they were likely to be -- so we didn't get that "OMG it was them!" moment that I typically enjoy. However, the book offers so much more than just "who-did-it?" that I don't really mind in the long run.

Overall, this book comes highly reccomended by myself -- an enjoyable thriller with unique story beats and an easy to read tone!

Well, this was twisted.

Eve is an artist who paints portraits of missing women, and unfortunately her work catches the attention of exactly the kind of fan nobody wants—a serial killer. He kidnaps her and decides she is going to paint his victims before AND after he kills them as part of his own art exhibit.

I really liked the premise of One of His. Give me a serial killer, a creepy obsession, a woman trying to outsmart her captor, and some seriously questionable people and I'm probably going to keep reading.

This isn't really a whodunit because we find out who the killer is fairly early. The suspense is more about what Eve is going to do to survive and whether she can figure out how to manipulate someone who is clearly completely unhinged.

Eve was...a lot. 😂 I definitely didn't always like her, and some of her choices and behavior annoyed me, but I don't necessarily need to like the characters in my thrillers. Sometimes I actually enjoy being irritated by them.

I really liked the way the art was incorporated into the story. It wasn't just a random background detail. It was actually a huge part of the killer's obsession, and the idea of forcing Eve to paint these women before and after their deaths was disturbing.

I could have done without the sexual content. If you've read my reviews before, you already know I'm not a spice girl. Give me murder, serial killers and people locked in basements all day long, but apparently a sex scene is where I draw the line. 😂

I did figure out some of the twists before they were revealed, so this didn't completely shock me, but it still kept me interested and turning the pages. And that ending definitely wasn't quite what I was expecting.

Overall, this was dark, twisted and entertaining, with a really interesting premise. This was my first Alina Bellchambers book, and I'd definitely read her again.

This was one hell of a psychological thriller.

One of His had me hooked, especially once I got past the halfway point. The short chapters, fast pace and accessible writing made this such an easy book to fly through. It had that “just one more chapter” quality that I love in a thriller.

The story is dark, disturbing and genuinely creepy at times, with a fascinating connection between art, obsession, manipulation and murder. I especially enjoyed how the plot slowly unfolded and how the author kept me questioning what was really going on. There were definitely moments where I thought I had figured things out, only to realise I was looking in the wrong direction.

I also enjoyed the dynamic between the characters and the way their relationships were woven into the plot. The little bit of spice was an unexpected surprise for me, considering I went into this expecting a straight psychological thriller.

This is a fast-paced thriller that doesn't spend too much time dragging out scenes or unnecessary details. Once I hit around 50%, putting it down became increasingly difficult.

And that ending? Definitely a big WTF moment.

I didn't experience a book hangover afterwards, but I definitely sat there for a while thinking, “Well… what the hell did I just read?” I genuinely had a great time trying to figure out where this twisted story was going, and I definitely didn't see the final move coming. ♟️

A great choice if you're looking for a fast-paced psychological thriller with a dark art-inspired premise, obsession, manipulation and a plot that knows how to mess with your head.

What a THRILLING read!!

I really adored Cassius and Mira in The Order of Masks duology so I was ECSTATIC when I saw there was a new release by Alina that was read-now!! I was expecting another fantasy but a thriller completely took me by surprise!!

There are a lot of twists and turns in this one. I love the incorporation of art into this story. Our protagonist is Eve, who works as an artist that draws the faces of missing people. This is to get them the attention/publicity they need so that the authorities/public will put more effort into a search for them. I say Eve is the protag, but truthfully, her ex-BF, Chris, shares that role with her. He's a police detective who is hunting for her in the NOW timeline (after she has been abducted, as described in this book's blurb) and investigating a serial killer called the Artistic Killer. The THEN timeline explores Eve's life before her abduction, and her relationship with Chris... as well as her relationship with said killer. ;) Eve's a very interesting character. Very complex, quite dark. I quite enjoyed getting inside her twisted head.

Like I said, reading this was a thrilling ride. There were loads of things I didn't see coming, though admittedly when the killer makes their first appearance in the story (not counting the prologue), I clocked them right away. It was just the way they were described, and their demeanour, etc. They actually (I know, I know, sorry) reminded me a tiny bit of Cassius -- not in the murdering part, obviously, but in their mannerisms.

To me, the book wraps up pretty nicely (I do wish some things ended differently, but that's neither here nor there), so I'm intrigued to see that there's going to be a sequel??? I have no idea what to expect, but am eager to read that, too!!

Eve is an artist who has been kidnapped by an obsessive serial killer who wants her to do the unthinkable. He forces her to paint his victims, both before and after he kills them. The detective on the case of the missing woman happens to be an ex-lover who is the only one who thinks there’s a connection between the victims and Eve going missing months before. Of course, it’s not that hard to see when all the victims are involved in the art world, and she’s a locally famous artist. She fears that their ‘exhibit’ will end with her death and is prepared to do whatever it takes to survive and escape.

I would have enjoyed the story more if Eve’s character wasn’t so insufferable. The whole free-spirit, free-love, and flighty personality is just grating, and I didn’t relate or empathize at all. She wants everyone to be obsessed with her, and once they are, they become ‘boring,’ and she moves on. Ugh. The sex scenes were just unnecessary and, naturally, all about how desirable and irresistible she thinks she is.

I thought there would be more suspense as to who took her, but it’s obvious and revealed mid-story, and I was like, oh, it really is that person. So then I thought ok, the mystery will be in if and how she gets away. But there’s more to it, and I appreciated the twistiness of it, but I can’t say I was surprised. Well, except for the way it ended, because I had hoped for a different conclusion.

I guess I thought that for such a dark subject matter, the story would have a more macabre and sinister atmosphere. But it was more focused on the art of death than the true horror of it, especially with murder.

One of His is dark, twisted, claustrophobic, and built around a premise that is genuinely hard to look away from.

Eve Farrell paints portraits of missing women. Unfortunately for her, a serial killer in London’s art scene becomes very interested in her work and decides she would be the perfect artist for his next exhibition: portraits of his victims before and after death.

Not exactly the gallery opening anyone was hoping for.

What I enjoyed most was that this wasn’t simply a “catch the serial killer” story. The killer’s identity becomes less important than the psychological game that follows. Eve has to figure out how to survive someone who wants to control not only her body, but her mind, her art, and ultimately the way she sees herself.

Eve was easily my favourite part. She’s complicated, flawed, and not always immediately likable, which made her much more interesting to me. Watching her move from fear into observation, calculation, and eventually something much closer to revenge was incredibly satisfying.

I also liked the way art was woven into the story. It isn’t just aesthetic decoration. The paintings become part of the obsession and the power struggle, which gives the premise a suitably unsettling edge.

The dual POV and timelines worked well for me too, especially because Chris’s investigation provides a completely different perspective on what is happening to Eve. The tension comes less from wondering who the killer is and more from wondering what everyone is going to do once the pieces start falling into place.

Dark, disturbing, seductive, and very easy to binge, One of His is a good fit for readers who like their psychological thrillers morally messy and their serial killers artistically unwell. 🎨🔪🖤

One of His pulled me in almost immediately. The writing has such an effortless flow that it was easy to settle into the story, and once the darker pieces began falling into place, I was completely invested.

What I appreciated most was that the suspense never depended on hiding the killer’s identity. You learn who he is fairly early, yet somehow that only makes everything more unsettling. The tension comes from watching the psychological game unfold, and the story becomes so twisted and unpredictable that knowing the truth never lessens the impact.

The dual POV worked especially well for me. Moving between perspectives adds another layer to the narrative, giving just enough insight into both sides without taking away from the unease. Eve is also far more complex than I initially expected, and watching her navigate fear, survival, manipulation, and her own instincts made her incredibly compelling to follow.

I was particularly intrigued by the use of art throughout the novel. Building such a sinister concept around portraiture was wonderfully cynical in the best possible way. Something traditionally associated with beauty and expression becomes deeply disturbing here, and that contrast gave the story a distinctive identity.

Dark, sharp, and full of turns I didn’t see coming, One of His kept me curious from beginning to end. It’s an absorbing psychological thriller that proves the most effective suspense isn’t always about discovering who the monster is, it’s about realizing just how far they’re willing to go.

Alina Bellchambers has done it again in this psychological suspense thriller! In One of His, an artist is kidnapped by a serial killer - the victims all seem to be from the art world. Eve Farrell paints portraits of missing women, bringing attention to cold cases people forgot, attention to the women forgotten over time. People see hope, but one special admirer sees how death can be symbolic. He wants to make art together, a macabre exhibit of his own, of his victims - before and after life, and he needs Eve to make it happen.

To fully understand the kidnapping and the murders we get to go back and forth in moments of Then and Now. We get to see the events leading up to Eve’s kidnapping, the moments during her confinement. We get to see moments from the police side - how Detective Sergeant Chris Daniels is so invested in The Artistic Killer’s case, why it seems so personal for him to locate Eve. Maybe it’s because they were seeing each other before she got kidnapped, maybe because he’s hidden his intimate connection with Eve out of fear he’d be removed from the case.

There are so many twists and turns, and unexpected surprises as the truth unravels. The extensive planning, the reasoning behind it, the muse to the serial killers art. Everything will be brought to light - or at least everything they want us to know.

The Premise:

A serial killer collector captures a talented artist to paint his victims before and afterwards. The concept was so interesting and I was immediately drawn in by its potential. There’s hints of darkness and light, what could be and what will you choose when everything is on the line.

I will say, for me personally I think this would’ve resonated a bit more as a YA thriller (in the lines of a Good Girls Guide to Murder) - which I loved.

There were definitely parts with potential and this could be a me thing but I wished that I’d read a juicer, darker ARC between Eve and her captor. This is a quick book at under 300 pages and I feel like could’ve been punchier, quicker, the stakes higher (again this is my personal opinion and someone else could read this book very differently)

If you are drawn towards moody, atmospheric psychological thrillers, I’d recommend adding One of His by Alina Bellchambers to your TBR. Although not a classic whodunit (the Artistic Killers identity is revealed early in the story) the push and pull between darkness and light keeps the story alive until the very page. Can Eve escape her captor, or will she become one of his victims?

If you love dark psychological thrillers about serial killers this one is for you. If you love a bit of spice with your thrill then this one is also for you.

Set amongst the art scene in London, with main character Eve, who paints portraits of missing women! Then she becomes one of the missing after a bloody mass murder after her exhibition.

She is held captive and made to paint portraits for the serial killer! Gruesome portraits of his victims! Dark and disturbing!

Meanwhile, Chris a detective is trying to catch the serial killer. Well, secretly he is on the case as he believes the serial killer took Eve. Chris and Eve were in a relationship when she went missing. But noone knew!

The killer is revealed but they just can't seem to gather enough evidence. And, begins a game of cat and mouse between Chris and the Serial Killer.

But is Eve playing her own games...?

The ending twist on this one was pure psychological thriller and I loved it. So deeply disturbing.

I can't wait for this one to be in the wild for all the psychological thriller lovers.

This is a 3.5/5 rounded up to 4 starts. This was an addictive, twisty, chaotic read that I literally read in less than a day. I could not put it down! It was just the thing for the beginning of the spooky season.
The main cast of characters were interesting and dynamic. I don't like to discuss the plot too much in a thriller/mystery review but I will say the descriptions were very visual in a way that really highlights the use of the art world in the novel. I felt like I was watching an episode of Criminal Minds. Even when I felt like I had a handle on how things were going to land, this one kept me intrigued and I had to know how things would land. I would recommend this one for fans of thrillers and crime dramas. The only downsides for me were that the timeline didn't always flow for me, specifically the parts in the past, and I would have liked if Eve's job with the police were discussed more.

Wow, what an incredible twisty, dark, and enthralling thriller this was!

From the very beginning to the very end, I was entrapped in this story. The plot is so intriguing, the characters are extremely well-written with tons of depth, and the use of multiple POVs was great for the plot and gave so much insight into the inner thoughts of the characters.

While many characters in this story have a lot of depth to them, Eve in particular was a super interesting character who I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know. She's like a colorful onion-on the surface, she's simply a creative artist who enjoys painting. But the more layers you peel back, the more there is to her. She even becomes unlikable at some points, but that is partly why I enjoyed her so much. Bellchambers ability to create complex characters with so many layers and depth to them is incredible!

This thriller is dark, gory, sexy, disturbing, and sizzling with tension and suspense. It's the perfect read for a chilly autumn night and will 100% have you saying "just one more chapter" until it's 3am. Cannot recommend this one enough!

WHAT IN THE WOOOOOWWWW!!!!!

I definitely did not see all of that coming.

I love the way Alina unfolded this story with the alternating timelines, and I loved learning who the kidnapper was early on because that felt like such a departure from most thrillers. And goodness, she had so much story left to tell and twist! It really all connected well. Sometimes a book's twists can make other parts of the story confusing or less believable, but not here. Alina really nailed the details.

I REALLY enjoyed this one. The concept was so good, and I loved how the plot kept unfolding and taking me in directions I wasn't expecting. The twists were definitely a highlight for me — there were several times when I thought I understood where things were going, only to have the story change things up again.

I was genuinely captivated for most of the book and always looked forward to picking it up again, which is probably the biggest sign for me that a thriller has worked. I just really wanted to know how everything was going to come together.

Overall I had such a good time with it. Definitely one of those books I'm glad I picked up.

This one was seriously twisted, and I really enjoyed it. It’s dark, creepy, and kept me hooked from the start.

Eve was such an interesting character, and I loved watching her try to survive while dealing with someone so obsessed with control. The mix of art, obsession, and murder made the whole story feel so unsettling.

I especially enjoyed the psychological side of it. I was constantly wondering what would happen next and who really had the upper hand.

Definitely a great pick if you enjoy dark, twisty thrillers that keep you guessing!

What a twisted thrill of a ride. I felt truly unsettled every time I picked this up to read (positive connotation)
The premise is an artist captured by a serial killer to paint his victims - besides the obvious intrigue, the story kept me hooked with the multiple timelines and POVs, since it felt like we were always unraveling a new part of a mystery. One of His is a thriller with quite the plot twist at the end. I really liked this book. Eve is the main character she is an artist who mainly paints missing women while there is a serial killer preying around the London art scene.I found this to be a very easy read and finished it in one sitting. I liked the different views of Eve with both the flash back chapters and present day ones.

THE TWIST AT THE END!!! I did NOT see that coming, but what an incredible ending to a fast-paced, suspenseful whirlwind of a thriller. I am a total sucker for a dark romance paired with an intense cat-and-mouse plot, and ONE OF HIS delivered on every single level. If ever a crime thriller should be made into a film, this is it! HIGHLY CINEMATIC. Thanks so much Thomas & Mercer and Alina Bellchambers for the ARC.
