At times, I feel I was meant to be an innkeeper someplace on the outskirts of Bree in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. However, in real life, I am a much-celebrated Moscow-based author, as well as one of the originators of the relatively new, yet insanely popular, LitRPG genre that blends cyberpunk, classic sci-fi, and fantasy.
I started writing in my late 30’s and only “because there was nothing handy to read,” but after my first two books gained nearly instant acclaim, I had to give serious thought to changing my current banking career to that of a professional writer. Fortunately for my readers, who had voted his debut novel More Than a Game (link) the “Best Book of the Year 2014,” I never looked back after that.
Over the next few years, I continued work on the now-bestselling Fayroll series, maintained a blog, and participated in various multiple-author projects. I am also the author of The Raven’s Flock and The Arch series, which will soon be available in English.
I understand wanting to end on a cliffhanger. There are two ways to do that that apply here: 1. Tell me the character's hunch without telling me whether he's right or not 2. Telling me the character's hunch is right without telling me what his hunch is.
There is a lot of in real life in this book that seams super crazy to me. The game's creator run their business like straight Russian Mafia and a little like feudal lords. The office politics is the same as I have seen. His insights into women's world is spot on. The game is starting to feel more like work than play, but this story is still highly entertaining..
I have enjoyed this fun and quirky series so far, but I will not be reading any further for now as I see it as currently pointless with me not being a Russian speaker (or reader). The last english version book i can find was published back in 2018 and despite the author continuing the series (7 books further) with the latest published in 2021, i dont want to get any more hooked when I will only be able to read part of the series.
This one had a few problems, not just grammar. A few of the links shoot you to the back of the book instead of the footnote popping up. Having to go back to the page you where reading was annoying. With all the quest the MC has going I'm not understanding why he didn't pop that pet scroll as soon as he got it. Off to read book six.
This is one of the best series I've had the pleasure of reading in a while. This is one of the most interesting and great stories about a man who chances upon a new way to play a game and slowly becomes the next lead character in the best series I've had the pleasure of reading in a while. A
Kif / Hagen is getting in deeper, both in the game and in reality. It had been a few thousand pages of other stuff since I read this (I think the omnibus for books 1-3 was the very first thing I read in 2019, if I remember my year-end summary correctly) and it's becoming more complicated. I will probably make a point of trying to read book 6 somewhat sooner, so it's not as hazy when I pick it up.
It was an interesting addition to the fayroll series, and while i enjoyed it it seemed to plod on at a slow pace. it was good but felt more as a setup book for the next in the series than actually progressing the story along.
This is not only a great plot and interesting characters. It’s very well written and has a good balance of gaming and real life (so to speak.) I’m very much looking forward to reading the next book!
terrible cliffhanger ending that's not addressed in the beginning of the next book. In fact,it's ignored. How could you be such a jerk to your readers?

Kif is always fun to follow. I've read all of the previous books and I'm crazy about the LitRPG genre now. I enjoy the Russian background, it makes the setting seem really new and interesting for me.
