Totally worth the pain. If you want a series that is dark, twisted, yet so full of undeniable love, this is it for you. This series is a roller coaster that you fly high, you fly low, but at the end of the ride, you want to go again =)) definitely a favorite series for me.

This series is hands down one of my favorite, and it started my love of dark romances. There are literally no grammar/editing issues either, which blows my mind and the writing is flawless.

I can't say enough about it, it's mind blowing! You will fall in love with Q without a doubt! Everything is so perfectly connected and builds on itself, the metaphors are beautiful and the character growth is perfection!

If you haven't read this series yet, you need to. There's nothing else I can say except READ THESE BOOKS!

I think it is going to take me some time to get over how bloody and grisly this is and I devoured every single page with great delight.

While the first one really screwed my head good, it also sets me up for what's ahead in book 2. Book 2 was a major nightmare and I was oh-so-happy that I went into it without reading the synopsis so I had no idea all the batshit crazy thing that was to happen.

Twisted Together was pretty difficult to read as well. Just went you think that it's going to be all good and sexy, the rug was pulled rather brutally off your feet.

What I really liked about this series is how after awhile, the characters grew on you. You could really see how the characters evolve and I'm not just referring to Tess and Q. Q's faithful sidekicks really put the stories up another notch.

This is my first series by Pepper Winters and it is certainly won't be my last.

So many unnecessary paragraphs made the reading kinda boring. But the book is really dark. Some chapters brought tears into my eyes.
Q, a beautifully broken, fierce hero. I became a fan of him for his valiant fight against the sex tr@fficking. The world needs people like him more 😩. And the way he loves Tess ssdddfgggfhhff. He's the definition of "Touch Her and You Die". Another swoony man spotted

Overall series 4 stars

4 stars

Tears of Tess was a great intro to this series. Although I will say I found Tess really annoying in the beginning she eventually won me over. Q was very sexy and I felt his connection to Tess immediately. His sexual appetite is one that kicked me out of my comfort zone especially since I don't have a taste for pain with my pleasure.

5 stars

Quintessentially Q was excellent. My emotions were all over the place. Q's obsession with Tess and his determination to get her back was intense. Tess the poor thing so broken and ready to give up went through hell. Although she slowly came back she was no longer the Tess we met in book 1.

DNF@Chapter7

Twisted Together is just not working for me. This book is so boring, I can't spend another moment trying to get through it. From spoilers I have read I know I get my HEA so I'm ok.

Me right now:

I've spent the last week immersed in this world & now I begin the dreadful "Book Hangover." This series has everything that I love: Suspense, Smut, Romance, and an Alpha FRENCH (oh la la) Male. I've had this series on my TBR for quite a while but never got around to reading it. When I read the plot I was a bit skeptical due to the warnings about kidnapping & sex trafficking. Now, I read CJ Roberts' Dark Duet series & absolutely loved it & ever since then I've been searching for a book/series to fill the void. After reading this series, I may have found THE ONE (lol) This series kept me on the edge of my seat at all times. I don't know how many times I had the urge to throw my iPad against the wall due to certain characters & situations. I laughed, I cried, I cringed, & I swooned. This series scared the bejesus out of me because I know this happens to people every single day but the author did such an incredible job describing that world that I didn't want to put the book down. Pepper Winters is so unpredictable & I love that because as a reader I want to be on the edge of my seat, I don't want to predict what's going to happen three chapters in to the story & she did a great job with that. I can see this series become a film, so much so that I mentally cast the characters & director (David Fincher by the way.) Halfway through the story I compared it to the F* up version of Beauty & The Beast & in the third book, Tess mentions that her favorite childhood movie was Beauty & The Beast (how ironic.) This series is not for the faint of heart. You have to approach this story with an open mind or else you're not going to see it for what it really is. Now, I do recommend this story if you enjoy reading Dark Erotica.

End note: Being the Francophile that I am, I loved how Q was French & lived in a French Chateau in Blois... I can only picture his deep, raspy voice whispering dirty words in my ear (swoon.) Frederick & Franco had me in giggles & I'm looking forward to the Fourth book "Je suis Toi"

10 "je suis a' toi" stars!!!

This series was beyond phenomenal! It was dark, beautiful, painful, gut wrenching, earth shattering, soul shaking unbelievable!!!!
I didn't expect anything less from Pepper Winters but she blew my mind! I am numb with how much I feel for this story. PW 'turned my life completely inside out, back to front, bleached it, then cut it up and sewed it back together"!
The tragic love story between Q and Tess cannot be put in to words, you must read it and feel it.

Tess was kidnapped, beaten, put through misery only the devil himself can deliver.....she became number 58....
Q was an angry , dark yet gloriously beautiful monster that became her savior.
Together they grew into a love only they could understand. They became one another's monster in the dark. They gave each other strength when needed, darkness, pain and light.
Watching them overcome the beast within and grow in their love was an amazingly dark journey that I will repeat over and over!

"-I'd waded through blackness and survived.
-I'd fallen in love with a monster and thrived.
-I'd danced into riches in every conceivable way.
-But through it all Q had been there. My monster in the dark."

I just finished the entire series. Wow! The twists and turns keep you in the edge of your seat and your heart pounding. Just when you think you know what can happen BAM! A curve ball slams into the story and it takes a different route. I had a love /hate relationship with all the core characters in this series. The trials and tribulations they endure left my head spinning, heart hurting and sometimes just plain sick to my stomach. But their courage, perseverance and love redeem them ten fold. Many times I was left scratching my head, seething in anger or softened with love. The unconventional relationships in this book may not be what some people find appealing but it totally fits with this series.

This is by far one of my favourite series ever. And definitely the beginning of my love for Dark Romance.
I honestly don’t even know how I can properly express my love for this series, it’s just insane 😭😂💗
This series is so incredibly dark, it’s painful, soul shattering, gut wrenching. But it’s also so beautiful. Trust me, you’ll most likely cry at least once during this series.

Q and Tess are absolute endgame. I’ve never loved a couple so much in my goddamn life. I would DIE for these two. I would sell my freaking soul for Q and Tess.

The first book Tears of Tess really messed with my emotions, it was the darkest thing I had ever read. It was so so intense but I was so addicted.

“ 𝐴𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑡𝑜𝑛𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡,𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝐼 𝑠𝑎𝑤 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑛𝑎𝑚 𝑦𝑜𝑢’𝑙𝑙 𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑤𝑒𝑡 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑚𝑒.𝐼 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑦 𝑜𝑤𝑛 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑏𝑜𝑑𝑦 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑦,𝑡𝑜𝑜.𝐷𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑦 𝑖𝑡?“

“ 𝑁𝑜,𝐼 𝑑𝑜𝑛’𝑡 𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑦 𝑖𝑡.𝐼’𝑚 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠.𝑇ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ.“

Then book two, Quintessentially Q happened….
Holy goddamn motherfucking shit. I thought the first book was dark… wellllll well well. Book two was so freaking terrifying, it was pure heart wrenching. If a panic attack was a book, this would be it. Because I nearly had multiple panic attacks and heart attacks throughout it. It was so intense and absolutely bat shit crazy. But oh boy was I in love with this series. Nothing had grabbed my attention as much as this series

“ 𝑌𝑜𝑢’𝑙𝑙 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑏𝑒 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑚𝑒.𝐼’𝑙𝑙 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑏𝑒 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑦𝑜𝑢.𝐼𝑡’𝑠 𝑓𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑑𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑠, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑓𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑔𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑢𝑠 𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ 𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟.“

Then we had book three, Twisted Together. Now this was definitely not as dark and book one and two. But it was still goddamn horrifying. Q and Tess in this book.. omg 🥺🥺🥺 ma heart. MA HEART

“ 𝑇𝑜 𝑚𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢’𝑟𝑒 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛 𝑎 𝑘𝑛𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑝𝑖𝑑 𝑠ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑜𝑟.𝑌𝑜𝑢’𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑛𝑜 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑡𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛 ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑠.“

AND THEN. You have the perfection of the novella at the end, Je Suis à Toi. At the beginning I was like oh yeah this is good, and then I was like THIS IS REALLY GOOD 😭😭 this wasn’t dark at all, just the happiest purest thing ever.

“ 𝐼 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑎𝑛 𝑎𝑑𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑡 𝑡𝑜 ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑠𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑡𝑙𝑦 𝑑𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑔𝑜𝑛𝑦.𝐴𝑛𝑑 ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑟𝑢𝑔 𝐼 𝑘𝑒𝑝𝑡 𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑜 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑎𝑔𝑎𝑖𝑛.“

Now let’s talk about that spice 🌶
The KINKS in this series, woah woah woah. I’ve learnt a lot of things from this series that’s for sure. But woah was the spice absolutely perfection. Honestly at this point everything about this series is perfection

Pepper is a Queen with writing. The writing in this series is flawless. It’s completely mind blowing!
Auto buy author for me now 🥰

Before you decide to read this series, PLEASE please check trigger warnings! This series definitely isn’t suitable for everyone, it’s not going to be something everyone can handle. A lot of super dark things happen in these books.

"I'm Esclave Fifty-Eight. The girl who broke her owner. "

When I heard that Pepper Winters was writing more in the Monsters in the Dark universe I could not contain my excitement! Especially after her announcement that the infamous Q's brother will be our hero in The Jewelry Box Series. - Mind you, you do not need to read this series prior to The Jewelry Box series per Pepper Winters announcement.

After this news I had to go and reread one of my favorite series and it was bittersweet to go back to the beginning of Q and Tess's rocky relationship and see it revolve into this soul crushing love. They would die for one another and that is why these two are one of my favorite IT couple. The amount of torment, angst and betrayal they must endure crushes me but in the end they are strong enough to battle and keep the demons at bay.

The Monsters in the Dark series is a classic beautiful dark romance where more than meets the eye, we finally see Tess grow from the start of Tears of Tess. She is embracing who she is and the woman she has become with Q at her side.

5+++ Twisted and Warped Stars

I love a dark read, but OMG!!! This one really took me over to the DARK side. Maybe I just thought that I was reading dark reads before…hmmm…I have not read this dark of a story before and I am so thrilled to have read this one. I have a major book hangover after reading it, but that to me is what I call a good book. This is the kind of story that even after you have read that final page the whole journey is still stuck in your head, yep this one will do it to you. So consider yourselves warned!!! I have to give props to Pepper Winters because she has introduced me to a whole new dark side of dark reads that I don’t think that I would have ventured into without her wonderful writing. She drew me into the story with her writing and had me at times wondering how in the hell am I going to recover after this was over. Pepper Winters took me over to the dark side and what can I say I effin loved every effin minute of it!!!

As twisted as this may sound I fell in love with the monster himself Q a.k.a. Quincy. I loved his take charge and you are mine attitude. I love a man that puts claims on what is his. I would let Q take me to his dark side any day of the week if it ended the way that this story ends… I floved Q.

I loved Tess’s feistiness. She is such a fighter and I really loved that about her. The shit that she goes through had me fighting with her. I wanted to do violent things to those assholes that treated her like shit. I mean really I had her back throughout the book. I was ready to go psycho on all those bitches.

I am totally glad that I waited until the boxed set was out to read because I don’t think that I could have made it waiting to get my hands on the next books. I have to say that I loved all 3 books. This story grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down and if I did have to put it down for this thing called Life, then I was still thinking about it and couldn’t wait to get back to my read. Hoping that I wasn’t going to miss anything…lol…yeah, I always feel like the characters are going to go on without me. I know I have an addiction, but hey, it’s an escape from everyday life.

I do have to say on a serious note that this book touches on some really bad shit that really does happen in true life. I know that it is sickening to think that real humans actually act and treat people this way. I think that Pepper Winters did an amazing job on bringing that out in the book. I highly recommend this book. If you have never read a dark read, I think that you should just give it a try. I used to think that I wouldn’t like this kind of read, but I have found that by giving different genres a chance I have found new genres in the process.

Make sure you don’t pass up this badass boxed set! Also, listen to the playlist that is listed throughout the book, it makes the book come alive.

Happy Reading Everyone!!!

"𝒥𝑒 𝓈𝓊𝒾𝓈 à 𝓉𝑜𝒾." 𝐼 𝒶𝓂 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇𝓈.

I was captivated by this dark and twisted love story which was was so raw and depraved yet so tender, intimate and beautifully portrayed . Q and Tess had a complicated relationship which consisted of blurring the lines between pain and pleasure until they became so intertwined that they couldn’t separate them. Q is a broken soul who had lost all hope until he found Tess, who was the other half of his twisted soul . She healed a part of him which he never thought could be redeemed by simply being herself. Q showed Tess that she could find pleasure in the pain and she was able to discover her inner strength and embrace her desires and accept herself. This story will forever be apart of me and I will always treasure Q and Tess.

Compelling story but could have been told more succinctly-I had to skip sections because it became too much.

I loved the characters but I found the second kidnapping of Tess to be too much and I couldn't bear to hear her being tortured so much. If that portion could have been told in a smaller dose it would have maybe been tolerable. I've read dark series like captive in the dark so I'm not averse to a dark storyline but this just made it feel like no one would be able to come out of the amount of torture Tess endured. Also I thought the whole bit about her having left the tracker in after what she endured was hard to buy. Then somehow they manage to get past the security in his office to abduct her a 2nd time then he gets abducted. I finished it because I was already so invested but I did jump through several sections to be able to stomach the torture sections.

Loved it. It was dark, scary, sad, terrifying, sweet, loving and I just never knew what was going to happen next. I really wasn't ready for it to end. I want to hear more about their future, I want to know what her parents said if anything, I want to know about Suzette and Franco. This is NOT for anyone looking for a sweet romance or who can't stand to read about violence. There is a lot. I love to see the characters overcome and they definitely do. I also loved seeing the French language. By the end of the book I was giddily understanding what was being written. It was just a nice touch to the story, definitely not a necessary thing. There were times throughout the story where if this was real the language would have been an issue, but it was just always done in English which was necessary for the story. Well done.

On my ULTIMATE FAVE series list!!!!!

It's hard for me to write reviews especially on my favorite books because I don't think I can do them justice. This series is one of my ULTIMATE faves. The series consists of Tears of Tess, Quintessentially Q and Twisted Together. Right now Pepper is writing a fourth book, Je Suis a Toi, for the series which is supposed to be a novella, but I have a feeling it will be full length. I can't wait!
How can I describe these books. Dark, erotic, haunting, captivating, AMAZING!!!! They pushed my boundaries on what I considered erotic. Yes, they are hot, but there is a love story there that sucked me in. I am so in love with Q, Tess and Pepper! I FLOVE everything this woman writes!

I Love Tess & Q!!!

I don't know where to start. In the beginning of this series I struggled to get through Tears of Tess because I couldn't stand the pain and heartache that Tess was subjected to. In the second book, I hoped that she would come out stronger and be able to move past the pain she endured. In this third and final book, I finally saw Tess emerge as a stronger version of herself, willing to fight and kill for the man who means more to her than life itself. I am so happy that I didn't give up and finished this series, Q and Tess have found a dark place in my heart and I will happily read any other book by Pepper Winters.

Amazing.... lost for words..... gob smacked !! Got to start by saying Pepper Winters writing is outstanding, bravo !! I went through every emotion possible while reading this series. It is dark and twisted but oh so so good. Loved the main characters, adored Tess she had unbelievably strength. Q...mmm didn't know how i felt at first but he certainly grew on me, he is amazing love love love Q and his little 'family'. There were characters I truly despised and hated with a passion, you'll know who ? This is a can't put down must read, highly recommend it. I applaud you Pepper Winters, will definitely be reading more from this author.

Tears of Tess
Tess is an unsatisfied young woman yearning for a more adventurous sex life than what she has with her boyfriend Braxton. (I generally hate the use of “boyfriend” for adults but his dense attitude concerning her needs pretty much demands it) She vaguely knows what she’d like but is an innocent for the most part.

Life goes to hell on a romantic getaway when Brax is beaten unconscious and she is kidnapped from a dive they had stopped at for a drink. Tess is tattooed, microchipped* and eventually ends up at a mansion somewhere in France with a master known as Q.

“You are not permitted to use the internet, phone, or any technology of any kind. You may not speak to the staff. You may not leave the house.” Tess is conversing with Suzettte almost from the moment she leaves Q's presence and continues throughout. He later makes an obscure reference to this order but doesn’t punish her for ignoring it nor reinstate it.

He struggled to talk, deep and ruff. s/b rough. Ruff is the name of Dennis the Menace’s dog.

Chapter 21 - The story takes a totally unexpected turn for me.

“Did you call any other girl esclave?” I noticed he called the girl in the lounge Sephena--a name, not a title.
Tess shouldn’t feel like such a special snowflake as it would have been impossible for Q to call her by name since she wouldn’t tell him what it was.

Observations: Q indicates that women willing to endure his kink had to be handsomely paid. Don’t they have BDSM clubs in France where he could have found a willing submissive? I can’t believe that not one single woman voluntarily visiting a club wouldn't have a spark of defiance in her, especially if that’s what her Dom preferred. Women who have been enslaved are a far cry from those who seek out domination. Tess also hadn’t been subjected to years of mistreatment that could very possibly have extinguished her fire.

*Does she ever get the microchip removed? I don’t think she even mentions it to Q.

Quintessentially Q
So once again I’m wrong. Tess maintains she is not a submissive but a masochist. Shows what I know.

Interesting contrary reactions to a moment when Tess and Q have an emotional breakthrough (not sure what to call it) She is thrilled, thinking it brings them closer together. He is terrified that he broke her and will now lose her. Hmm...

Pantyhose do not require a garter. They are like tights in that both legs are attached to a “panty” (thus the name) and are held up by an elastic waistband.

Tess: I hated my doubt--hated my need to hear him say he was falling for me, too. Some part of me worried I’d never hear those words from him.
What in the hell is she talking about? He declares he’s hers and she’s his. They’ve conceded that they complete each other. I’m pretty positive he’s told her that he loves her (may have been in previous book) He says everything he has is hers. What more does she want? This doesn’t even include their mind boggling sex.

It was the same body-steeling compulsion... (should it be body-stealing?)

I need answers: How did Leather Jacket get into what is probably a building with high security? I especially want to know how he got into Q’s quarters since access seemed to require a private elevator. How did he know Tess would be there?* It seems obvious that he must have insider information and I want to know who.

Some of the above questions are answered but I still don’t know who betrayed Q’s trust.

At what point did Leather Jacket morph into Leather Jackal?

I wonder if Tess’s mental state would improve if she was confronted by the woman she had been forced to torture. I’m pretty sure this woman knows Tess was drugged out of her mind and doing these things against her will. Would the woman’s forgiveness (or at least understanding) make a difference? I’m guessing this woman may have talked to the girl with the hummingbird tattoo that Tess was forced to kill. She might have some insight into what that poor soul felt.

Tess climbed over the rumbled bedding You rumble in the jungle, people. Sheets get rumpled.

Apparently my proposed solution wouldn’t work. Frederick came up with the right way to go about healing Tess. Too bad the criminals were already dead so Tess wasn’t able to take her anger out on them.

*Perhaps the microchip?

Twisted Together

Tess is anguishing over not being able to tell Q that she’d murdered someone. He needs to remind her that she did confess while she was dominating him and having flashbacks that he was her tormentors. He knows, Tess.

Q is stymied at Tess’ mental detachment. Somehow he can tell that she’s lying and is insincere when she claims to enjoy pain the way she used to. He goes to unbelievable lengths to restore her spirit.

Maybe (probably) it’s just me but these two seem ridiculously insecure with each other. They’re both paranoid that the other is going to reject him/her. Their professions of undying love doesn’t seem to be believed. Q should know that a marriage certificate is no guarantee of a lifelong commitment. They also don’t need to be married for him to leave everything to her in his will, especially since there shouldn’t be any relatives to contest it.

So much happens in these books that I’m starting to lose the plot. Naturally the bad guys would have their own information network so they’d know about Q and his rescuing of slaves. But how did the regular media find out? Who blabbed? I may have to go back and re-read that part. Just like I had to double check Quintessentially Q because I had it in my head that Franco was married. I’d gotten him confused with Frederick. Franco’s sexual proclivities are similar to Q’s, just to a lesser degree, so he probably wouldn’t tie himself to one female.

Wouldn’t someone have heard and reported a gunshot in the hotel? Where is the butler or whatever he is who is supposed to be at their beck and call?

...I stood concreted to the carpet. Wouldn’t a better word be cemented? Or even glued.

Best. Wedding. Ever. I grinned all the way through.

Something I wondered about in Quintessentially Q comes to pass.
