I See You

Rate this book
I watch you, I see you in ways no one else can, and through my lens I create a life of you for someone to dissect. I capture you in your vulnerability; that smile, your laugh, those tears. I document you and sell your secrets.

When I watch you through my lens you’re mine until I pass you to the buyer. I, like most people, have a fetish for pretty things and in my job I get to be around a lot of pretty things. They pay me to watch them and capture them in a frame for many purposes, and sometimes I like my profession a little more than I should.

I took a job to capture her… I wanted to capture and keep her in more than just the image. This time I will take myself away from the lens and become the client because I cannot resist her, she reminds me too much of my first, I need to have her.

Traumatised from a vicious attack, Nina Drake finds herself shut off from the world until her neighbour brings her out of more than just her nightmares. Even after moving and changing her name, she still can’t shake the feeling of being watched. The memories are so close.

And so is the shadow of the creator of them all.

** 4,5-5 “Jekyll and Hyde” STARS **

Evil is real.

It’s an entity living under the surface, waiting for the moment when you’re weak, when you’re beaten down by life to a point that realism blurs and everything we think we know, think we are, differ from reality.

That’s when you know the monster wears YOUR FACE, lives YOUR LIFE, and sees through YOUR EYES.

description

You never really know your family isn't normal until you grow up and realize how incredibly abnormal things were. But by then, it's too late, and the abnormal has already taken its toll.

Devon Trent comes from an “abnormal” family. Growing up in a house full of terrors and being an active participant in truly horrific events as a kid, Devon, the devil with a camera, and his older brother Noah are shaped into perfectly cold-blooded monsters. Nothing and no one can stop them.

Until Client#1325... Until Nina Drake.

You can’t always fight the creature that lives under the surface.
~ DEVON

description

I wouldn't recommend this book to everyone, no, definitely not. It's dark, it's depressing, it's suffocating at times and absolutely repugnant at others. The story will be heavy on any reader's heart, so prepare yourself before diving in, or don't get on the scare-wagon if you feel like you'll probably vomit mid-ride.

If you are brave enough to join the dark side, you'll fall in love with Devon, you'll feel absolutely sorry for Nina and hate Noah's guts. This is not a love-triangle or some sh*t, don't worry. As a matter of fact, the romance aspect is a bit on the background, but still enough to remind you of the twisted love these three, or rather...two, have for each other.

“Danger is exciting, but the only one in danger here is me. Because you disarm me, intoxicate and utterly beguile me. I’m in danger of losing my heart to you and you not wanting it.”
~ DEVON

description

So why 4,5 stars?

Because the ending f*cking gutted me! I wanted to scream, I wanted to beat the crap out of someone, I wanted to break all the stuff in the room. I was seriously unhappy with it.

“Say my name, Nina. Tell me who you love. Tell me you love ME. (...)”
~ DEVON

description

OVERALL: I read this baby in one sitting, my breath taken, my pupils dilated and my psyche completely sucked into the story. If you're a total wh*re for dark reads, then you'll LOVE it. If not, then slowly drop the book and go read something lighter ;)

Every time I start a book by one of this two authors or a book written by both of them I knew what to expect – something dark, disturbing, fucked-up, twisted, fucked-up…Did I mention fucked-up? Because let me tell you these two ladies know how to write a twisted tale like nobody’s business. And this book was exactly that.“I See You” is a story that I wouldn’t recommend to everyone. If (at times) you like your dark reads gory and disturbing then this book might be for you. If not…stay away.

“Evil is real. It’s an entity living under the surface, waiting for the moment when you’re weak, when you’re beaten down by life to a point that realism blurs and everything we think we know, think we are, differ from reality. That’s when you know the monster wears your face, lives your life, and sees through your eyes.”

The story fallows three characters – Nina Drake and two brothers Devon and Noah Trent. Devon and Noah grow up in a family that was…let’s just say…not normal, dysfunctional and their childhood was very...sick. Devon works with, or more exactly for his brother, Noah who has a very unusual job. Devon loves photography and since forever he was “the photographer” in his family.

“What’s more powerful than living in the moment of someone’s death?”

description

When a client requests a young woman named Nina Drake, client -1325 to be brutally assaulted and raped Devon is in charge to fallow her, to take pics of her, to play with her mind. Devon he’s taken by Nina’s beauty and he wants to keep her, but Noah who’s always been in charge of everything decides to carry out his assignment.

A year later, Nina is changed; she’s an empty, hollow shell of a woman. She moved in a small town, alone, she doesn’t have any family or friends and she doesn’t get out of the house. At all. When she meets her new neighbor she starts to want more for herself. But her life changes irrevocably when she finds out who the 'perfect' neighbor really is.

“She’s femininity in its element; the fall of her long hair, her tiny waist, and her large breasts. She was created for monsters like me.”

A dark, disturbing, suspenseful thriller, “I See You” held my attention from start to finish and I was so enthralled by this story I didn’t figure out the big twist. And well, I’m glad I didn’t since the story was more captivating this way. The story is told in multiple povs, which I occasionally enjoy. In this case I really did since I felt in some way it was necessary. I loved being in these three characters’ heads. The story was engaging with some interesting twists and turns I didn’t expect. The story was very graphic and brutal at times, the narrations was great and the suspense well done.

Nina was a heroine I really felt for. Her past was brutal, but she finds the strength to move on and to take chances. And for that I really admired her. Noah was a sick, bastard. He was pure and simple evil. However, he was an intriguing character. Devon was not the usual hero. He was...let’s just say a very enigmatic character.

All in all, if you want something dark and raw, a little disturbing, yet captivating, this one might be the perfect read for you!

Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Multiple
Rating:

Devon Trent found passion behind the lens. Capturing both beauty and pain breathed life into him. But when he found someone that captured his attention, passion quickly became obsession.

Nina Drake was a survivor. To forget her past, she moved to a new city to start fresh. Developing a friendship with someone new was a small step in getting her life back. But the past wasn’t willing to let her go that easily.

Personally, I think photography is the ultimate in voyeurism. Capturing the good or the bad is fascinating. And you could learn a lot about a photographer’s psyche by analyzing his/her immortalized subjects. This is one of the reasons I was drawn to this book – besides the darkness of course.

I’m under no illusion I’m a monster. I was born from one, raised by one, and brother to one who lacks any trace of ever owning a soul.

When I first started reading, I have a certain hope/expectation for Devon. Even though he turned out differently I still love him nonetheless. I understood him and could feel him and that's the kind of thing that made me love a character.

Nina's story was a brutal, sad one and she was a trooper in overcoming her issues. She was afraid of the past but she didn't let that dictated her future. She was willing to take chances and take a hold of her own life than wallowing in her pity, so I love that about her.

They’re shocked and confused, but deep down a part of them knows they’re going to die. I gain a piece of their soul before they’ve even exhaled their last breath.

Another memorable character was Noah. He was vile and I love being in his head. I just wish there were more chapters on his POV.

“You really are fucking clueless about the monsters that surround you, Nina, aren’t you?”

The story, I like it, but I did figured things out quite early on. Personally, I prefer if authors/reviewers not mention what kind of story a book is because I tend to end up figuring out. As a reader, I want to be surprised/shocked. But when an idea is planted in my head, my mind inadvertently ran through the scenarios and usually ended up with the right one. In my opinion, very few books succeeded in planting an idea in readers only to have it blown away to smithereens.

I love the ending. Yes, I meant the chapter ending, not the epilogue. I believe it was what the book needed. It made me love him even more.

I don’t waste time playing with her; she’s too frail to enjoy toying with. I snap her neck and sling her over my shoulder. She’s heavier than I assumed she’d be.

The book may not be for everyone. It was graphic and brutal at times. It wasn’t a romance, but rather a thriller/suspense with the underlying element of love – both familial and romantic kind. If you don’t mind all that, it could be a fascinating journey into the mind of the disturbed.

oh la la...well...

WAS

I was prepared to deal with the mind fuck and God knows what kind of twisted fucking shit one can think of and since I was prepared this story was MILD compared to the horrors I was pumping my brain with...

and let me just tell you...the story was EXCELLENTLY written...it was a true, almost "Hitchcock like" (gotta love the man's name HitchCOCK LOL) psychological thriller...

and he said a phenomenal thing...

the story dealt with the...

and now that I know that i can put certain acts into a perspective BUT nevertheless this book made me mad and it provoked me on basic survival instincts...

the fact that it deals with brutal invasion on a female's body, presented through flashes of horrid experiences...the female character is portrayed in the most realistic ways possible. You can feel every inch of her marred body as an impulse of pain and horror...images are imprinted into one's subconscious and is constantly there reminding us, poking us, dreading us all over again and again...

but Nina Francis Drake - the heroine that started out as a victim and has risen to be the winner, the survivor!!!
The woman who faught her demons, her shattered body and soul and has build herself through life's sarcastic fucked up sense of humor and she came out of it as a strong woman...who deserved happiness and another chance at love...

"Because after everything, I'm a stronger person, a woman who can now cope with whatever life throws at me. And by God, if I'm not eager for it."

Great story, dark but compelling!

I love books where psychopaths or sociopaths fall in love, it always gets me when a guy who has never felt any sort of empathy or emotions before, all of the sudden feels the initial obsession of love, lust and possessiveness towards another person.

I really liked this book and without giving away any spoilers I probably would have liked it better if Devon and Noah would have fought it out at the end, but sometimes in books everything doesn’t have to be wrapped up in a pretty little box, it is ok to have a more real world ending!

I can't put into words how I feel about this story. I think it was a little too dark, even for me. I certainly wasn't expecting a fluffy romance, but I did expect to see a little bit, enough to keep me satisfied and happy with how things turned out. The thing is, I am not feeling those things at all.

Nina was a normal girl, if a little lonely. She lived with her cat and had a best friend who was a bit of a bitch, but Nina was completely blind to it. After she is brutally attacked, her life changes completely and she is a broken woman until a year later when a new neighbour moves in next door.

I can't really tell you much about the 'hero' without spoiling it, but lets just say he wasn't what I was expecting. He is not a BBF you can fall in love with, let's put it that way.

Also, the writing felt off, like it was a bit rushed and forced. Very over descriptive at times and I often had to read sentences again to make sense of them. Overall, I was quite disappointed, and although I will continue to read Ker Dukey's dark stuff, I will probably steer clear of anything quite this fucked up.

This is a dark, thriller (not romance IMO) told in dual POV.

"If I see you" is a dark thriller.
This is very hard to review without giving any of the twists and turns away, so I will just say if you enjoy reading dark and twisted reads, you'll love this. It is non-stop suspense and is very, very hard to put down once you start it!

If you can handle dark reads then give this book a go but as I said it's dark and very graphic , so not for everyone!
Take the warning seriously!
Author's warning:

Dark, Disturbing And Diabolical

I am still processing this book and how I feel. I'm sure it will give me nightmares for weeks to come! It was dark. It was twisted. It was haunting. It was a brutal tale of unimaginable horrors and yet, a sweet and tender love story.

This is most definitely not a story for everyone. Heed the author's warning r/t the violent, graphic content, which may be offensive or upsetting to some readers. I love dark, erotic, stories that deal with such subjects, and I had to take a break a time or two. The content is chilling. You will cringe and want to pull the covers over your eyes and hide.

The story is told beautifully, slowly building the suspense and creating a sense of impending doom. I was on the edge of my seat, spellbound by this thrilling dark story until the very end. When everything was finally out in the open, I couldn't help but feel sad, even though I felt like there was a sort of poetic justice served.

If you enjoy dark, erotic and suspenseful reads, this is one you don't want to miss! It is a total mindf*@k! This story was fantastic! The fact that I was able to download it as a "free" Kindle Unlimited book was an added bonus.

Oh fracking hell!! This book was insane, intense, and incredibly eerie. This story had me looking over my shoulder, peeking out of windows, side-eyeing my neighbors, and generally left me with a truly distrustful vibe. Let me catch someone creeping on me. So glad I have a registered firearm! 🤣🤣🤣

I See You
Ker Dukey & D. H. Sidebottom
⭐⭐⭐⭐

Those who are fascinated with dark romance, here's another book you should be indulging yourself into. I See You by Ker Dukey and D. H. Sidebottom made a colaboration worth your time. It's so dark, it's so twisted it makes me question my sanity for wanting this.

Nina Drake is a fine young woman, makes a decent living, lives with her cat and is very satisfied with her life. Until someone puts a hit on her, but here's the catch, the hit made for her does not inted for her to die but rather to leave her broken and unwanted. She was raped, hours and hours of torture until she was left with nothing.

Devon never approved what his brother, Noah, intended to do with her, since they were the ones contacted to do the hit. The book also describes their childhood, how they become so haywired and disturbed to do such things.

After a year, Devon tried his best to find Nina and try to salvage whats left of her. Making her fall in love with him, making her feel wanted and desired again as a human and also as a human being. Nina soon found out their connection and she realized that Devon is not the person who she thought he was.

This is a dark romance novel people so keep your expectations to a minimum if your thinking about happy endings. I can't discuss further cause I might as well spoil the rest, you see there's no fun in it if it's already said and done.
But imma tell you, if you're as twisted as I am in reading this genre of novel, you'll love it!

Before reading please place a condom over your head because it’s about to be fucked.
Not my words, it is the warning written at the beginning of the book and god this was a MINDFUCK.
I used to stray away from reading books like this cuz at the end there is no point in reading books from the dark genre and giving it a low rating for being fucked up and dark. So I'm giving this 5 stars for its depravity. Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson has a similar twist at the end but this one was more of a surprise than that. I have a severe case of second lead syndrome and for once the girl ended up with the guy that I rooted for!!

If you are afraid of the dark and twisty romance, then I will have to forewarn readers that I SEE YOU by Ker Dukey and D.H. Sidebottom is really dark. This book was utterly chilling, dark, gritty, raw, violent, bloody, and a mind-fuck!!! When I was done with the book, I was still reeling and processing on my thoughts of what I just read.

fashion19

I SEE YOU is not for the faint of heart. Honestly, this book will take you down the dark rabbit hole where you are taken into the mind of a monster. Right off the prologue, you are immersed into the dark and as each chapter progress you taken into madness and the dark. And the only way to escape the darkness is to hold onto the edge of your seats and hope for the best. All I got to say the authors really kept their readers engaged in this intense, gritty, and heart-pounding read!! I SEE YOU is definitely one of those books that leaves you reeling. I wish I could say more but I don't want to spoil anything but I will just say this if you love a dark, mind fuck, twisted, crazy read then I SEE YOU is the book for you.

OMFG!!!!
What a book!!!
Dark. Twisted & Fucking crazy!!!!

E as últimas páginas??? Me fez prender a respiração! MA-RA-VI-LHO-SO!

Muito bom!!! 🖤🖤

Devon Trent is a photographer who captures the most candid and hopeless moments in a person’s life. Through his lens he can experience an unrestricted range of emotions. Up until first seeing her, Devon accepts his lifestyle, but as he starts to feel buried emotions, he wants a normal family. Devon is complex and is also a victim to a degree.

description

Nina Drake is living her life by working with her good friend at a local bar. Her life basically revolves around her job and her family consists of her cat until one night when her entire life is irrevocably changed by a horrid and brutal assault. As a consequence, Nina moves to a small town as a way to isolate and protect herself from fear and guilt. Nina is quite courageous and I admired her ability to want to feel again.

“Grab what life gives you and cherish it because we never know when it will be whipped from under us.”

After having limited contact with people, Nina starts to gain some confidence by forging a friendship with her handsome and kind neighbor. He seems to offer patience and understanding in such knowing ways and Nina slowly responds to him. What she doesn’t realize is that her life will unravel in unexpected ways.

“You wanted her? You can have her…broken.”

In starting this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect as to the level of suspense, horror, or romance. However, from the first page, my attention was captivated and I could not stop reading! The writing flows so fluidly and the plot arc is perfectly executed. Additionally, the secondary characters in this book are not inconsequential, especially Noah Trent who plays a wickedly pivotal role in the plot. With the alternating POV’s, the author is able to deliver impactful character development and a healthy dose of thriller suspense with small side dish of romance. I highly recommend this book.

Note: One last mention - I liked the author’s caveat prior to the prologue: “Before reading please place a condom over your head because it’s about to get fucked.”

This is one dark fuck-with-your-head book that kept me enthralled the whole time.

Although I suspected the outcome at the time of the fire, the unravelling was done nicely and the outcome very unexpectedly, but than again it was probably the best for him.

I really liked to read about the way Devon feelings for Nina develop and how much he was in love with her. And how he made Nina fall in love with him.
This is a dark but suspense full book and if you like reading this genre I wholeheartedly recommend this book. But be warned, this book has graphic scenes of rape!

Evil is real. It's an entity living under the surface, waiting for the moment when you're weak, where you're beaten down by life to a point that realism blurs and everything we think we know, think we are, differs from reality. That's when you know the monster wears your face, lives your life, and sees through your eyes.

I f*cking hate this book.
First I read a book by DH Sidebottom and had my heart ripped out, then I read a couple from Ker Dukey and was lost to the world because I was so engrossed in her stories THEN I read a book by these two devious dark divas and OMG I'm having a ToppingFromBelow-esque serious book hangover. This book made me tear (sadistic reader here) and so emotional I almost didn't want to review it.

Where to begin? In the first 6% I guarantee you won't be able to put this down... the beginning is so disturbing, vivid, and has a new and unique dark story line. We are introduced to brothers Noah and Devon, who are subjected to the vile proclivities of their sadistic and perverted father. After childhood trauma, Devon runs away and spends most of his time behind a camera lens working for his hit-man brother.

When Devon spies Nina Drake, he becomes enamored with her- but she's just a job in Devon and Noah's business. Once the job is over- can Devon walk away?

"...you disarm me, intoxicate and utterly beguile me. I'm in danger of losing my heart to you and you not wanting it." ~ Devon

After a brutal attack by an unknown masked assailant, Nina moves and leaves her life behind to start anew. She quickly becomes companions with enigmatic yet alone Devon, will she discover the truth that their past intertwine?

About 60% of this book fit my ultimate dark romance needs...
An anti-hero who is still inherently good inside? Check
A realistic heroine who falls for said anti-hero? Check
So much real emotion my heart strings sing? Check

...and then I had the gnawing suspicion of a "twist" and I thought NAAA the authors wouldn't do that...that's too bold! I held on to my naivete as long as I could.

Needless to say, this book is genius. There are some scenes I can't get out of my head- a dark book hasn't affected me like this in some time. I want other dark readers to read this NOW and share with me your shock & emotions- I cannot recommend this enough! BUT in my opinion this is not dark erotica- this is horror- erotic and some romance but horror nonetheless. Newbie darkies beware.

And in the beast shall an angel of virtuousness flourish. I forgive you.

I expect nothing less from these two. A suspenseful, dark, depraved story that will fill you up, starve you, then make you savor the want.

You know the book, the book, that grabs you by the first sentence?
This is it. I knew going in that I'd be fucked. Because, these two do not mess around, but I had no idea. Well, I guess I did, it's Sukey. <--- Yeah, the bag of chips, but add some hot sauce.

"Evil is real. It’s an entity living under the surface, waiting for the moment when you’re weak, when you’re beaten down by life to a point that realism blurs and everything we think we know, think we are, differ from reality. That’s when you know the monster wears your face, lives your life, and sees through your eyes."

My eyes. My poor soul. I swear it, after reading a Sukey book, I have to check into the hospital for a few days, make sure I'm me and I haven't completely lost it. Well, they do (metaphorically) pull off your fingernails one by one, but they give you some antiseptic, just a little to help, then they rip off another. And I come back for more every time.

"You never really know your family isn’t normal until you grow up and realize how incredibly abnormal things were, but by then it’s too late, the abnormal is already taking its toll. Not only is it written into your DNA, but it’s stamped on your soul and in charge of your actions. What is normal, anyway?"

Yeah, we as twisted readers do not want normal. There's nothing normal about this story. This was beautifully written depravity, some hidden agenda, and whiplash. If you want, keep-me-on-my-toes-dark-twisted-love. Get on this.

WOW. I did not see that coming… This book was awesome! It is dark, twisted, emotional, and utterly depraved. Ker Dukey and D.H Sidebottom are quite the writing duo. I am (and have been for some time) a huge fan of their novels. Never before have I had so many OMG moments than when I read their novels. Freakin fantastic!

When Nina is brutally attacked her whole world turns upside down. So she decides to move and get away from the fear and the pain that haunt her every day. A few months down the road a new neighbor moves in next to Nina. Being afraid of essentially everything this is hard for her because she has been alone for quite some time due to her attack. But soon enough she finds that she is drawn to him. Who is this man that made her change her whole outlook on love and life and why does he want such a broken and haunted girl?

Devon and Noah are brothers. But they are not normal siblings. Being raised by a sadistic and twisted father has turned them into depraved and sick individuals- click¬- who kill for money (but mostly fun). So when Devon meets Nina, he suddenly feels like the life he was living was not enough for him and he runs from his murderous past. But will Noah let him fall in love? Or will he haunt both of them till their last breath? –Click.-

Overall, this was a great book. I really enjoyed how the authors were able to bring out a softer side to their sadistic characters. It made me feel a little sympathy for them, especially towards the end >>which was so unexpected that my mouth hung open for a good 5 minutes-. Readers who enjoy dark romances will love this one. However, if you are easily offended I would skip this one. It really, really dark.

Wow! This book is fucking FANTASTIC!!

When I realized this was Ker Dukey and DH Sidebottom I had a total "When Harry Met Sally" moment!!!

I love these authors so much I knew this would be a perfect addition to my reading list! I was enthralled from the blurb alone and the book itself did NOT disappoint.
I love dark and twisted and holy shit I felt the horror and evil possessed in these words. I felt the pain and suffering and I felt damaged and broken for AND with Nina.
This book pushed some limits, it wasn't as dark as some BUT the vivid details and the creative genius of the appalling and shocking ordeal that Nina went through left me nauseous yet feigning for more.

Again- I fucking LOVED this book! BRAVO KD and DHS!!! You owned me with this and fucking hell.....THE LAST 20%!!!!! MIND FUCKED!!!
I would totally do it all over again 1000 times!

For the record this novel is one of the most spine-tingling, hair raising tales I've had the privilege of reading in a long time. In the beginning I was prepared to give "I See You" a two star rating. Turns out my initial dislikes were plot based. You've gotta love a talented writer who can get you to trash a book one second and hailing its praises the next! Suspense, intrigue, mystery and creep factor, Ker Dukey brings them shinning through page to page. Very intense dark read, enjoy!

This book stunned me for the first quarter!

I felt like I was reading a memoir about serial killers.

But I couldn't stop reading, so I guess that makes me just a tiny bit twisted?!

☠Four POVs: Nina, Noah, Devon, Luke

☠Triggers? Yes!

☠Steamy scenes? This book is plot-heavy and less focused on the erotic scenes.

At 31%, I could NOT put this book down! The red flags and obvious hints dotted throughout the text were perfect, albeit somewhat predictable for the intended outcome, but the writing was seamless! The authors gave just enough subtle details throughout the story to keep me hooked and needing desperately to see the outcome of this very vivid story! En-joyed!

***4 OH MY FREAKING GOD Stars***

I'm not even sure how to rate this book. I was so disturbed and intrigued and in awe by it. I was shocked by it. I was repulsed by it. I was confused by it. And, for the most time, this is how I reacted:

I can't get into too much details right now because I don't want to spoil it for anyone but jesus christ...this book was just so different from me.

P.S
I deducted one star from my rating because I think some of the scenes in this book were written purely for shock value and didn't really contribute to the overall plot.

I See You is a dark book of abuse/rape, love/hope, and survival all delicately wrapped up in this suspense building crime-thriller. The characters are all interesting and well developed, some even might make you question if you should root for their redemption or their immediate demise.

Even though this story was slightly predictable it kept me interested throughout. At times I even felt as if I was reading a book that could have been made into an Alfred Hitchcock movie. I was just waiting for a AH life lesson quote by the end of the story.

The multiple POVs in this read gave additional character perspective and layers. Author Ker Dukey did a good job with showcasing the voices of the main characters involved in this twisted tale of .

I See You gets 4.5 smile for the camera stars.

What in the actual F**k was that? Omg, what a total mind boggler. I can't say too much without giving away some major plots, but this book will give you whiplash. I literally had to go back some pages and make sure I was reading things correctly at times. This book was so good. I was so glad to see Nina rebuild her life step by step after what happened to her. Devon, oh Devon. You sir made this story in more ways than one.
