Devin has achieved his goal of becoming Chairman and all seems peaceful...until Devin performs an act of cruelty that pushes Anna to fight back for the first time in her life. Meanwhile, Alex is working hard to give her something that Devin can never take away. As her Masters work around her, Anna must navigate a life she never wanted.
There is a subculture within our own world that you’ve only heard whispers of. The conspiracy theorists wish they knew Anna’s story. What the conspiracy theorists think they know is only disinformation, put out there to keep them from the real story.
***NOTE*** This is not a stand-alone novel. This is the third of five novels that tell Anna’s story.
***WARNING*** This book is for grownups. This book is not for people who are easily offended, get nightmares easily, or have difficulty reading books about tough subjects. Do not read this if you are under the age of consent in your country. Do not get angry if the subject or actual book upsets you. If you're reading this, you've been warned.
I'm an indie author that likes to write books that will make you feel! Dark is my primary genre with touches of romance, paranormal, political conspiracy, suspense, and thriller. I love meeting new readers, so feel free to touch base with me and introduce yourself!
"The Life of Anna" is one of the most disturbing dark erotica series I've ever read. I love stories with a dark, disturbing edge to them, so this series is right up my alley. In many ways, this third book seemed lighter than earlier books. There is far more romance and "feel good" moments. The few dark scenes were really disturbing, but there weren't as many as in the first two books.
As the series progresses, I'm finding myself getting irritated with Anna though. Yes, she's been terribly victimized since her childhood and manipulated. However, I still struggle with the fickleness of her emotional attachments. I mean, how many different guys can she possibly fall in love with over the course of a few books? Every time I blink she seems to have a new love interest. It gets to a point where it just seems disingenuous and exhausting.
Also, how many times is she going to suffer horribly at Devin's cruel hands, only to turn around and forget about it? I know she's his slave, but does that mean she has to be such a dim-wit? You know the saying, "Fool me once...". Seriously, does anything this sicko does surprise her any more?
The light in Anna's grim life continues to be Alex. (Sigh.) God, what I wouldn't give to clone that man! As always, he is hard at work to save Anna from the miserable hand she's been dealt in life. He offers her a life she'd only ever imagined and it is great while it lasts. Although, I'm not at all convinced that it's over.
As usual, Devin is the epitome of evil. Look up villain in the dictionary and you'll see Devin. He is a vile, despicable beast. Ms. Honeycutt could not have dreamed up a more convincing monster. He is the quintessential bad guy and continues to shock me with his cruelty and lack of humanity.
Despite my growing frustrations with Anna, this series continues to be original and compelling. It is unlike anything I've ever read and continues to push my boundaries. Hats-off to Ms. Honeycutt for creating such a captivating story. Like a tragic accident in the making, I couldn't look away if I tried. I am enthralled.
I was lulled into a false sense of security for the first half of this book.... And then BAM! There it was. Rape. Abuse. Betrayal. Death. Destruction. Heartbreak. Addiction. Pain.
The prose in this book is deceptively simple. But behind that simplicity lies a darkness that I have never encountered in any other book, and I doubt I will ever find again. This series is FUCKED.
This was a horrific installment, and even though I nearly threw up, there wasn't as much abuse as in the second part. It also wasn't as long. The willful ignorance of the characters was also highly grating.
I don't know if I will be able to finish this series, because I don't know if I want to see what dark and depraved depths are yet to be explored.
All I know is that I want to stab Devin in his stupid asshole face.
I had the great honour of beta reading this book, and this series just gets better. It's very difficult to check for grammar etc. when the story is so gripping you lose yourself in it. It isn't your standard romance, erotica, paranormal, BDSM or very dark erotic paranormal book! It's something else, entirely, and the only way you can discover that is by reading the series. It isn't for the faint hearted, some of the content (as described in the disclaimer) is shocking but is within the context of the story. I can't recommend these books enough, the characters are so well written with a lot of depth to them that draws you in deeper. Buy it! The only thing you will regret is not getting it sooner.
I had to give myself a little time before writing this review. To be honest, I expected to give nothing short of another 5 star rating, and if I were to be considering the series as a whole, it would still be a solid 5 stars. However, as the third installment of the series it fell just a little short for me. Here's why... Without spoilers, (I hope) the first 25% of the book does a wonderful job of expressing Anna's grief, its palpable. And then the final 30% is as superb as the first two books. My issue with this installment is in the middle, when things for Anna seemed to be kind of good. it seemed as though the author had a bit of trouble writing emotional happiness in the same way she can write emotional despair. Which if you are writing a dark book that's a good thing. I just didn't feel the emotional soul connection in the same way I felt everything dark. It also felt a little rushed, without any really good examples of how "the next few weeks went by in happiness". I know I'm going to get some grief for the "markdown", but I absolutely love Ms. Honeycutt, and if my little tidbit can help her be the best she can be, then I'll take it all. Keep up the outstanding work, and I'm looking forward to the continuation of Anna's story. I received a free preview copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.
Wtf am I reading.. I've never read a book that's so f**ked up!! listen to the authors note at the beginning of every book.. if u can't handle really dark stuff do not read this series..
This series is one of the darkest I have read, if not THE darkest. I can't figure out if I'm starting to become desensitized though. The story is starting to feel too long. I had to take a break for a few days because some of the stuff was repetitive, although not so much so that I didn't in some ways appreciate it. I criticize stories sometimes for having things happen so quickly that I can't feel the impact that the author was trying to create. In this case, I feel like I am really getting to know these characters and all of their nuances.
This story is boundary pushing to say the least. I have to suspend my reality to make myself not get too disgusted with the ways of the Elders in the Brotherhood. You have to desensitize yourself about anything sex related, or at least mentally acclimate yourself to the fact that the most fucked up situations are run of the mill for these people, or you just may as well put the book down and give up.
What pissed me off so much in the first and second books is now so commonplace that I have to acknowledge that this is a completely alternate universe and sex is more of a currency and way of life like using the bathroom than anything else. It is used to manipulate, control, show submission, dominate, transfer power, abuse, and to a lesser extent from what I've experienced on this journey, give pleasure, comfort and show affection.
I do feel like Anna's happiness was short-lived, and I needed more of a respite from her otherwise F'ed up life. Can we have some more happy time please???
And to be honest, I'm also getting sick of Anna. I get that her life is seriously messed up and that she has been conditioned to respond to things a certain way, namely sex, but it's getting annoying. She falls in love with anyone who shows her a tiny bit of affection. While at first it was endearing and understandable given her circumstances, I have had about enough. I just want to shake her and ask her to smarten up! After everything she's been through, I would think she would be a little less naive at this point. While I understood her innocence in the beginning, enough has happened that I can't believe she would make some of the choices she does, or that she would be so forgiving. I'm waiting for her to harness her powers. Seriously. What's the point of being an Elder-Mistress if you never try to learn who you are and what you are capable of doing? When Alex wanted to learn how to save Anna, he studied up on things. I find it very frustrating that no one thus far has tried to empower Anna by helping her learn about herself.
I had to skim parts of book 5 to make sure I could continue with this series. I just don't think I can go through another 800 pages of the same stuff without some type of reassurance that things would come together in a somewhat satisfactory way. While I didn't want to know everything, I needed to know a few specific things in order to continue. This darkness can be overwhelming, and with the length of these books, I needed some light at the end of the tunnel, which the author promises.
There are a LOT of characters and a LOT of moving parts. I just hope book 4 doesn't drag too much, and that we see more moments of a smarter and more empowered Anna.
Warning this series is not your mother’s sweet harlequin romance. This series is dark and gritty. It will test you and your ability to handle violence and cruelty at every turn. Some scenes might even make you want to throw up. Anna faces some extreme sexual situations as a sex slave in a subculture within a world we could never imagine. This story is Anna’s life it is all that she knows; some of her thinking may surprise you. What Anna thinks is normal could be shocking to us. Considering the hardships she has endured, she is a strong character that I truly enjoy reading repeatedly. Though this is an unconventional romance, the author promises an HEA at the end in book five, however it will be a long harsh road. In this, the third book in The Life of Anna series by Marissa Honeycutt we find our heroine Anna once again facing unbelievable cruelty at the hands of Devin. He has achieved his goal of becoming Chairman and all seems to be going as he planned. Until Devin does something, so unforgivable that it pushes Anna to stand up and fight for herself. Alex is still working hard to figure out how to get Anna out of Devin’s clutches for good and back into his waiting loving arms.
Anna is happy for a period then her world is shattered once more and you wonder how much can this poor girl take. She is living a life she never really wanted because she never knew any better. Anna wonders why bother having fun, a life, friends, and lovers who care about her if it Devin will find a way to take it all away from her in an instant. Finally Alex and Anna are reunited and it is so sweet and so loving. My heart soared and flew out of my chest screaming for joy. Alex did it he finally got Anna to understand he loves her, she loves him, and they can work together and be happy. This couple deserved some happiness. However, I knew that happiness would be short lived because this is not a lighthearted romance. This is a tough, raw and dangerous story that will have you crying in happiness and then screaming in terror. It is filled with emotional pain as much as it is physical pain. I loved it, such deep story telling! I cannot say enough about this series; it is one that makes you think. One that makes you want to know more you need to know more, you cannot breathe without knowing what will happen next. Then the author throws you for a loop and puts in a twist that you will not expect. You scream NO! But you can’t stop reading because you’re addicted to Anna’s story.
I love a book that makes me mad at the evil and happy at the joy. To me that is the sign of a great writer when you can draw out such emotion just from words printed on a paper or e-reader. I hold my breath once again waiting for book four and the continuing saga of the life of Anna.
Just when I thought Anna's life couldn't get any worse, the author proved me wrong! As the suspense grows and the supernatural elements comes to life, we learn of the immortals. Kaveh, a horrifying nightmare to Anna reveals his true sadistic nature as Devin's lap dog. He may have unlimited powers and a force to be reckoned with, but he's tethered to Devin so tightly, he's his bitch! Whoof...Whoof! Oooh my god so much happened in this installment. Its hard putting into words the events that took place without giving anything away. And trust me, you don't want anyone ruining this for you. The authors dark creativity knows know bounds, she'll take you on a hellish journey and when you read of the blood, gore and the heinous acts Devin is capable of, ahhh I'm shuddering. Yeah very dark, intense, let my clip art explain what words can't. Enjoy!
I really like Anna's attitude at the start of this book and thought hell yes she is going to kick Devins ass. By the end I found out how wrong I was and just wanted to cry for poor Anna. I could feel the heartbreak. I wanted to throw my kindle many times during this read and just hoping for a HEA for Anna. I loved this book and I love this series. Bring on the end of February waiting with baited breath for next installment.
***ARC provided in exchange for an honest review - Sanne / Scandalous Book Blog***
Well unlike the previous two books in this series I believed this one was softer, easier in a way. With that I do not mean that it was fluffy because there where some really really bad events that happened.
So the first half or even a little more i'd say was rather calm but there where major things thrown at you nonetheless. People will leave, others return and there will even be some casualties that'll make you go NOOOOOO!!
Anna felt a lot different to me then in the other books. There are three major events that have caused a shift in her behaviour for me... Which ones? Oh you'll be ... mad, hurt?
Oh Alex, what can I say about you?! I'll just let you speak for yourself because i'm still ... after ....
Devin: NO FREAKING WORDS!!! He is a monster through and through...
Gretchen: the wicked witch that has a big mouth and a bigger secret!
Great job on the third book in this series! Definitely for keeping my interest in a five book series, which isn't an easy task to do...
The playlist that I made was not easy to complete since the emotions that where portraited in this book where as much coated in mystery as they where obvious.
So read read read people, it won't be easy but it'll be worth it!
Book #3 in the life of Anna series does not disappoint! When you didn't think that Marissa Honeycutt could take the genre of dark erotica any farther she does! Embraced is hotter, deeper, more impassioned and exceedingly depraved. This amazing author forces you to feel deeply for Anna as she grows emotionally and learns to love and bond with the positive forces that surround her and then rips, shreds and fragments your heart into tiny bits of blood, pain and tears. Book #3 takes you on an rollercoaster ride of love and hate, happiness and sorrow.
Alex is hotter than ever and Devin is more sadistic than ever. Marissa writes sexy like no one else! Prepare to be sucked into this installment of The Life of Anna and be begging for more! It is time to burrow under your blankets and dig into this dark, erotic and forbidden gem!! I was lucky enough to review an advanced copy of Embraced for an honest review! PHENOMENAL!!
UPDATE REVIEW AFTER DIGESTING FIRST 3 BOOKS IN THE SERIES: The Life of Anna
To the knowledgeable, The Life Of Anna books can hardly be categorized as "paranormal". I definitely wouldn't call myself a paranormal book fan. I want authors to throw me into a plot with characters that make me feel them, love them, cry with them, laugh with them, but MOST of all I want to feel like "this could really happen."
(This is written as a letter to Author Marissa Honeycutt)
By ingeniously writing The Life Of Anna using factual symbolism of Illuminati (very non-fiction), you gave all your readers a fiction book with the feeling "this could really happen." If you think Stanley Kubrick, Eyes Wide Shut, which in turn is based on Arthur Schnitzler’s 1926 novella entitled Traumnovelle (Dream Story) **note German author and title**,then you'll have a glimpse into The Life Of Anna book series. As one of my new favorite authors, I just wanted you to know that I read this book with my eyes, heart and mind wide open. Anyone who says this book is just about sex IS NOT paying attention and might want to do a little research on the book, movie and authors listed above. Thank you Marissa Honeycutt for giving us a look into a taboo topic (Illuminati) without holding any punches back. Although there's a sexual act on nearly every page, this series is about the lengths the elite, power and money hungry along with their devious sexual appetites, will go to for domination over all. This series is full of depth, symbolism and heart wrenching tragedy.
I've been in a serious book slump until I read the first few pages of Enslaved. I can hardly believe I have to wait two months for the continuation of Embraced. I'm seriously considering to wait until both the the 4th and 5th books have been released before I dive into book 4. The wait is absolutely killing me.
The way Embraced ended has my mind on a serious roller-coaster. I can't even begin to start another book until I've digested what the heck happened at the end of Embraced. It's New Year's Day and all I can think about is this crazy-amazing book I just finished. The ONLY sliver of hope I have left is Anna's last dream...the room. "It looks like it's waiting for someone."
I'M JUST OUT OF MY MIND CRAZED THAT I HAVE TO WAIT TWO MONTHS TO FIND OUT WHAT THAT DREAM MEANT!!! I just don't know if I can do this to myself again...That's why I'm thinking of waiting till the last two books are released. Oh God, but I don't know if I have that kind of self control. If there's one thing I can say with 100% honesty, it's that I've never been this outta control, wanting to cry and pull my hair out, BECAUSE I CAN'T READ THE NEXT INSTALLMENT OF A SERIES. I was desperately hoping for at least the first chapter of book 4 when I finished Enslaved, but NOPE. It's about 18 hr's since I finished Enslaved and I'm still in the exact same state of crazed-insanity as when I finished the book. Nothing can save me until I get my little hands on books 4 and 5. Your Forever Fan (a little crazy, a little insane...but I owe all thanks to you for my current mental state)!!!
The third book leaving me speechless and breathless. I am not a big fan of the first and second book but I always get through a series or a trilogy. I won’t leave something at the middle. Not my style and my type.
I gave the first and second book 2 stars. It was okay. That’s it.
The third book, however,
5 BOMBASTIC STARS.
No 3 or 4 stars, it just five.
We got that Alex leave Anna to go to Germany to figure what he needs to do about Devin in the second book. Guess what, Alex is back. GOD, THE PERFECT MAN IS FINALLY HERE.
He doesn’t come back to San Fransisco, technically but he asked Anna to go to Germany. Being in Germany probably the best thing in Anna’s life. I am so mad at her in the first two books but in the third book, I can’t be mad because she hurts so much. I cried a lot throughout the story development and be so worried about Germany and Alex.
The third book changed my view for Anna. She is too ignorant and her life is just full of unfortunate events. Alex changed everything. Since the first book, you know that Alex is the guy in her dream, he is her ‘everything’. Marissa gives us that. Alex is being perfect since the first book and he is like the only light in Anna’s dark fate. (The darkness clouded by Devin by the way, of course. Who would have such darkness other than him? Duh.)
They are so in love with each other and so happy and I’m so glad that Anna got some respect and happiness in her life. And of course, some protection from Devin. Her fate, her supposed-to-be-life just lost. She shouldn’t live in that disgusting way and when it happened, she just accepts it. God, she is too ignorant.
Devin, is he some sort of Devil in this book? You got Immortal who by the way is still evil somehow and here I thought they will be like Angel, half-Immortal who is emotionless and have ability to cure people, maybe Devin is the only Devil? You know, just like the last Devil in the world?
I still believe in his redemption after what he had done to Ben but the last incidents in this book just left me hating him even more than before. Do I still believe he could change? Unfortunately, yes. I have read so much book the hero actually the bad one and killed people and I still could accept a HEA. I don’t care what he did about everyone around Anna but I deeply care about what he do to Anna. It made him less acceptable by the way.
The ending is heartbreaking but I’m glad when she shut it off. I want a flicker of disappointment from her since the first book and I’m glad I get it the third book. Great.
Overall, this book is a great handiwork. It tells us more about Anna's life and that is what we actually need because let's admit it, the first two books in the series doesn't explain much. I can't feel I'm sorry for her in the first two books but this book leaving me crying for her life. God, it changed every perspective that I have to this book.
I Keep Waiting Marissa! Waiting for Innocence to win over Evil!! I'm very much addicted to this Series by Marissa Honeycutt! Each book gets Better!! At the end of this book, I wanted to deliver serious harm onto Devin! I WANTED TO SHAKE ANNA and tell her she needed to find her own VOICE! ESCAPE FROM WHAT HER LIFE HAS BECOME!! This series,so far,has had me feeling the WHOLE Rainbow Of Emotions!! It does come with a VERY LARGE WARNING DUE TO EXPLICIT SCENES.IT IS AN EROTIC SERIES! YES,there is a STORY HERE! Not Just Hot Scenes! You must read the first 2books to understand everything that's going on with Anna. I recieved this book as an ARC for an honest review. I Highly Recommend This Series! I Can't Wait For BOOK #4!!
I love this book and I love this series. If you have not read the previous books for the series then go read them first!
Wow we are mid-way through the series and I am starting to freak out. The ending leaves me with questions I don't know how to answer. How can that happen?
Congratulations to the author- -- I can't wait for the next book!
I was extremely lucky to receive an arc of this book, and after finishing part 2 of Anna's story, I was badly in need of the next one in the series.
So, I always summarise in my reviews, and haven't in the last 2 reviews from this series, but I think it does help somewhat to know what to expect. So I'll give a spoiler free, and kind of hard to understand rambling summary of main events.
Entwined, Part 2 left with Alex feeling confident that he was getting somewhere with his research, in to how he can protect Anna from Devin, her malicious Master without it putting himself or Anna in a worse off position.
Embraced starts off straight after that, and Anna is happy. She is dating Ben, the lawyer from an apartment in her block. She can feel like a normal girl with Ben, and loves it. Her dancing is also going really well, and things seem perfect. Except that usually is a huge warning sign in Anna's life. Anna knows she can't get away with Ben not knowing about her other life, and that somewhere along the line, the 2 lives she lives will inevitably cross. I already know that for everything good in these books, generally something pretty ugly and messed up will follow shortly afterwards. I read the book waiting for the signs, knowing that the twisted monster that is Devin will somehow be lurking around the corner, and yes, again he was there. Waiting to take control of Anna again, and remind her who and what she was.
Cue shocker number 1. No spoilers in this review, so I won't go on to explain what happens next. After the unspeakable events, we find Anna struggling to deal with pain. Not the physical kind this time, but the emotional. Which she has a harder time coping with. One thing to come out of Anna's grief is this shocking yet amazing fire that she seems to have found. A bit of a new Anna, and it's really quite scary but awesome. Although Anna's feisty side isn't quite enough to stop Devin from doing something even more weirder and messed up than normal.
Anna is made to go spend xmas and new year in Germany with Alex. Yet as Alex left Anna to go back to Germany, without much explanation, when she needed him, he is the last person she wants to spend time with. But he is her other Master and reluctantly she goes, and we get a chunk of happy Anna and Alex for a while. Although....Again, happy Anna = trouble brewing. Things are going way too good for Anna after her trauma from before, and Devin is far too quiet. Considering what Anna and Alex have been up to whilst away from the US, I just know this time, Devin's punishment will be something beyond bad. Like horror film bad. Peeking through my fingers, not quite brave enough to look, bad. I also had a huge feeling, it would have to top the other shockers in this series. The following sequence of events, after Germany are quite nerve racking ones. Alex has to go off on a mission, Anna has to do her duty and go to one of the big gatherings as the Elder-Mistress alongside Devin. Alex will be far away, and unable to protect Anna. I was almost scared to read on.
Anyway, enough with the dramatics, I'm not going to spill anything. Of course those following scenes are extreme hardcore, like testing limits and pushing boundaries hardcore. I was expecting dark and nasty but wow. I am beyond glad that I wasn't watching it on a film, I think I would of hid, or puked. Not sure. Perhaps both.
After managing to close my gaping mouth, after the constant back to back shockers. I wasn't sure whether I should be welling up or urging. Anna has pretty much taken far more than is physically, and mentally possible. I have no idea how she is even sane or alive. The bad stuff is thrown at her constantly, and you would think she has reached her limit. Not yet, but it's coming.
The final part of Embraced is beyond sad. I refuse to give up hope on Anna and her future. The daft romantic and HEA lover that I am, is keeping my fingers crossed for the next part. I may have to cross them until February but it could work. It wasn't left in a cliffhanger, I'm just left with a lot of questions. Which will have to wait for now.
So after that bizarre summary of what you get in Embraced, baring in mind I can't actually say much without giving away, well everything. I just want to say, this series continues to blow my mind. Usually by the 3rd part in a series, I start to get bored and lose the urgency to get to the next book. Not with this series. Embraced was a book of epic proportions, not just the massive story but the sheer amount of pages. It was a long story, and every single page with captivating. I have been known to skim pages, if I get bored and not much is happening. There is no way you could even skip a paragraph in this book. You would miss so much. It's packed not only with huge amounts of action and drama, but Anna's internal thoughts are so fascinating. She is such a unique and compelling character, and knowing there isn't any others, out there like her, I just want to know more. Although for every dubious and obvious non consen scenes in this book, there is also a huge dose of extremely hot and intense steam too. Although usually I'm still a bit traumatized over previous scenes to fully appreciate the hotter stuff, and scrubbing my eyes to wipe the visions, but it's all good.
Again, this wouldn't actually be as gripping as it is, without the dark genius that is Marissa Honeycutt. Her story telling and writing skills are intense, and suck you in. Then leave your brain a bit fuzzy, but that's a good sign in my opinion. How will I ever return back to my waiting contemporary romance reads.
So I should really put a warning at the end of this review. Yes, this is finally the end....So, WARNING!! Seriously, don't go in to this book without first reading parts 1 & 2 or you will be totally lost, and missed loads of good stuff. And secondly, DO NOT read this book if you have limits in books, as it's pretty much a certainty this book will cross most of them. If your limits haven't already been crossed, they will probably be lined up for the next book. It is extreme! But also pretty awesome!
Hugely recommended for fans of Dark Erotica. 5 Stars.
After finishing I really don't know what to say I am going to try and do this review spoiler free
The first half of this book is Kind of Calm to what we have read in the first 2 books but the stuff that happened made me annoyed I was shouting at my kindle I had to put it down and walk away for a break Just when we think Anna will be happy Bam Devin does his thing and hurts her She tries to cope with it the best she can Then Alex comes in and well……. I was so happy at this point of the book really happy and I thought Yes He will not let that Evil Devin hurt her again but Happiness just isn't in the cards for poor Anna Just when you think they are both Happy BAM! Devin comes back even worse than before he is a Monster he made me sick in this book how much more can you put someone through My heart Broke for Anna bit time in the book and all she wanted was Alex and well…… you will have to read it to find out what happens This book is such a rollercoaster of a ride People will leave, others return and there will even be some casualties that'll make you go NOOOOOO WAYYYYYY and WHY JUST WHY!
I felt loads of emotions through this book and by the end I was just speechless and I can't wait for book 4
Alex is hotter than hot in this book I love him
Devin is more sadistic than ever he is pure Evil at its best he is a MONSTER and he shows it in this book
Anna Poor Anna I don't know if to shout at her shake her then hug her and take her away from it all my heart is breaking for her
I'm kind of ready for this series to end. I'm sick to death of Anna, Devin is not human and I hate how stupid Anna is. I'm over her sleeping with every man in the book! I hope book 4 is the conclusion because frankly I'm over it.
So, this is the third book of The Life of Anna series. I'm glad that it finally has story on the third book. Not that the formers doesn't have, they have but here, it's the "humiliating-Anna-all-the-time" is more less happening in this book.
At first, when I picked Enslaved , no offense, but it was because I kind of was not in the mood to read anything heavy to put my emotion into. So I picked randomly at that time. But when I'm reading it, I realized that "Oh my god this is too much humiliation!" yet I still keep my reading, because, mind you, I understand that Anna is a slave here. But she's not common slave we usually meet in Dark reads, M/s reads, or I-kidnapped-you-I'll-train-you-and-will-sell-you-as-sex-slave thing. There's some kind like a mystical involved in here. So, even though Devin's humiliating acted toward her never end I still kept reading until the last page. And time goes, here I am, finished the third book.
This series is disturbing read, if i may say. I cringed at what Devin did to her. Technically, he brain-washed her since she was very young teenager. He plant "something" in her mind that turned her into the person she is now. She solved anything with . Really! It made me SMH sometimes of what she did to cope with her problems. But hey, Im just saying here. Sex is good. I'm not judging ;D But sometimes it happens at time&place&WITH isn't should be happen. More than ONCE.
In this book, finally I can see Anna & Alex together. I love how they make each other happy. And Alex was the MEGA understanding person to her S&C. But well, of course that things didn't come easy. Since DEVIN-THE-DEVIL-HIMSELF will never let anything happen not the way he wanted it. So, Anna & Alex's happiness only last temporary. THAT'S WHEN I PAUSED READING THIS BOOK. Because I knew what will come and at that time, i really felt the emotion toward this Anna character. So, I refused to bawling over her, AGAIN, SO I PAUSED MY READING. And this weekend I finally felt less emotional to the character so I decided to finish the book.
When I'm reading this series (1,2&3 so far) I can't help but ask :Why this author is so cruel to her heroine? Why she never stop the humiliation that happen to this heroine?
But, who am i kidding? I never know what's going on in author's brain when they created their characters. So i let it go and let it flow.
I HOPED that Anna was a common mundane. So she can end her life when things gets too cruel & HARD on her. It was ALWAYS hard and cruel to her!! IF im allowed to drink I might spent crated of beers when reading this books.
So, I spent my night tossing and turning over this book.....I was literally writing my review in my thoughts while trying to fall asleep. Now, my head is a jumbled mess and I don't know if I can remember all the things I wanted to say.
Ugh......I really think this 3rd book was the best so far. And yes, although it gets darker and darker, as the author warns, there are so many characters and elements to this story, it is mesmerizing.
Anna is flourishing with dance and even gets some key performances with the ballet company while Alex is still away learning a way to protect Anna. She begins to resent him for leaving her, and tries to put him out of her mind.
Anna falls in love with Ben, who is a "normal guy" with a normal family and he clearly loves her too. This was nice for Anna to finally have a chance at some sort of "true love". However, nothing good ever lasts for Anna, and who can blame her for feeling that way. When Devin interferes and some completely unthinkable things happen with Ben, Anna is left devastated, broken, lost, and alone. And still, no Alex.
Devin basically takes over Anna's mind and body.....it is sickening the way he treats her for his own needs and manipulation. Things happen to Anna that are just so awful and one big thing which I won't reveal here. There are many parts of this book where I was like "NO", but like I said in my last review.....it's like a bad accident that you just can't turn away from.
Then, Anna is told she will be traveling to Germany with Kurt and Wilhelm (Alex's brother and father) to finally see Alex. She is still so numb from what has happened with Ben.....it is heartbreaking. And her resentment for Alex is strong. However, their bond is unbreakable. When they finally see each other, she breaks her resolve and their love picks up pretty much where it left off. Won't say too much about this either.....secrets are revealed while she's in Germany and they are not all good!
Alex is then called on a mission, but is to return within a week. Anna is devastated and scared to be without him. Days and days go by, and no Alex.....Anna becomes a complete zombie and emotional mess. I will end it here because what happens after is just........oh it's not good!
I refuse to believe the ending of this book. Refuse!!!!!! I won't believe it! (Yes, I'm stamping my feet and have a little baby tantrum right now)!! Marissa Honeycutt, you better get the next book out soon!! I never thought I would become as consumed with this story as I have.......
As the third installment of The Life of Anna series begins, Anna has fallen in love with yet another man, Ben, one of her neighbors. Devin, being the sadistic fucker that he is, goes and kills him right in front of Anna! Devin then proceeds to throw the engagement ring Ben was going to give Anna at her. I wasn’t too upset about this since I never really felt that attached to Ben. She seemed a lot closer to Aaron or even Alex and Kurt. If anything, I was happy she was so livid with Devin and not quite so affected by his manipulation like she had been in the past after he committed some heinous offense. She’s finally growing some balls.
Then, maybe two weeks later, she’s back in the sack with Alex. She absolutely hated him one minute, but as soon as she saw him in Germany, boom! They were getting married the next day. Of course, it didn’t hurt that by marrying Alex, Anna was separating herself that much further from Devin. Alex and Anna’s wedding was precious and the consummation intense. What they each had to do with the Elders to approve the marriage was insane but hot. Even Alex had to take several for the team, even though apparently he’s use to it and doesn’t mind.
I can understand how fucked up Anna’s mindset is after everything she’s been through, but it kind of annoyed me every time she second guessed Alex’s intentions. Can’t you see he loves you and doesn’t want anyone else? But then again, she felt that way about Devin in the beginning and look at what he turned out to be.
I love that after everything Anna has been through, she still sees the good in people. Even when Gretchen was an evil bitch, she wasn’t nasty and catty. She actually believed everything and thought Alex would see her that way too.
I knew the whole charade was too good to be true. I just knew once Devin got his claws into Anna the honeymoon would not last. Once the happy newlyweds return to the States, everything goes to hell.
Devin’s abhorrent actions at the gathering literally made me want to vomit. What he did to Jamie was atrocious. This book is just toying with my emotions so much it's giving me whiplash. I'm banking on this series ending in an HEA like the author precluded, otherwise I would have stopped this insanity a long time ago. I cannot take much more of this shit! Poor Anna has been rung through hell. There are two more books of this shit! I don’t know if I can take much more of this!
"Anna’s story is told in five, novel-length books. There is a subculture within our own world that you’ve only heard whispers of. The conspiracy theorists wish they knew Anna’s story. What the conspiracy theorists think they know is only disinformation, put out there to keep them from the real story."
No spoiler review. This one was Emotionally Dark!
The third part to Anna's life was an emotional rollercoaster. Anna was starting to fight back, until everything came crashing down, twice. I want Anna to bring her wrath upon Devin, Jack, and all the men that have mistreated her. We see her light coming through, she finally gets a chance at a new life, then it's smashed to smithereens. This episode wasn't nearly as dark as the last, but make no mistake, you will be shocked just the same. Devin is a sadistic bastard that will do anything to gain power.
We still have two more books to go through, however I am just as addicted as I was with the very start, the answers to Devin's evil plot is the forefront of mind, I'm reeling for some revelations. The author was honest about this series, we have to ride it out to get our HEA. I'm okay with it, because she has already set the bait. I love a series like this, where I sit and try to decipher little hints or clues that I think mean something. I have no clue what's going to happen, totally unpredictable.
I was Lucky enough to be given and ARC for an honest review and here it comes!!
WOOT HOT AND SEXY
I will start off first by saying how much I love how Marissa Honeycutt writes. She keeps me captivated and interested and wanting to go on a reading binge and forget everyone and everything around me :D
Now about the book. Without giving anything away I was extremely surprised at what took place in the first quarter of the book, although I suspect that it is not completely ended ;)
As a lover of extremely dark and Taboo books I just can't express enough at how amazing the author is at making her books not just about the sex, abuse, torture, ect, but about the story as well and keeps you not only interested in the extremely erotic scenes but where the character and plot is going as well.
I absolutely loved the book and can't wait for the fourth book and am just praying that I can hold out without going crazy!!!!
Now I'm just fed up with Anna. The girl is dumb. Why you always falling in love though? Doesn't make sense. So everything is looking alright. Anna is safe and away with Alex in Germany Some shady business goes down in the name of marriage In the fucked up world of Elders & Immortals. Knew it was too good to be true. Good luck takes a nose-dive and becomes hell. The book dragged too much. We already know Devin is pure evil. Now just torture, rape, abuse and everything bad you can think up. Is Anna mad? What kind of brain does she have? I get Devin beats the shit out of her but why does she forgive so easily. Marissa is annoying the shit out of me with her story. But onto the next book.
THAT MUTHER FUCKET DEVIN IS USING DRUGS TO MANIPULATE HER. 3 stars for this bc u killed off My baby husband Alex. I hope my theory is right and they he's not actually dead. If he didn't die this would be a 4 stars 🙁

I am going to start off this review by saying that I have throughly enjoyed the entire Life of Anna series thus far. This review will contain SPOILERS, so if you have not read Embraced or the last two books in the series, Please do not read further!
The first thing I want to say is, "OMG, why did you have to take Alex away, Ms. Honeycutt?! Why?!" Okay, not that that is over, we can move on. Umm... I have never felt such a sadness for a book character as much as I do for Anna in this book. I thought Book One & Two were bad. Embraced took it to a whole new level. The pain, the grief, and the agony she has experienced in this book is unreal to me.
When Devin had Ben killed right in front of Anna, my heart just shattered, & When Devin threw Ben's engagement ring to Anna and she realized that Ben wanted her regardless of being a slave made it all the more harder for to deal with. In this tragedy, we see a change in Anna. She starts seeing Devin for who he really is & she starts fighting back against him.
The Wedding was just... so expected to me. I knew Alex would come in and save the day. I wished there had been that happy ever after with her, Alex, & baby makes three with the white pickett fence. That dream didn't last very long.
The two hardest things I had a time getting though was the torture Anna was subjected to at the Summer Gathering & the death of Alex. When Devin took Anna's baby, I thought I was going to faint. I knew Devin was evil, but it just... destroyed me as a reader and feeling for Anna. She's mentally calling out for Alex to come save her, but little does she know, Alex is dead & I was just an emotional wreck through the end of this book.
The ending just killed me. The cliffhanger of Devin getting Anna addicted to drugs & she goes back to being that submissive slave girl she once was and not the fighter we know her to be. I don't even know what his deal is with other slave? Is he trying to replace Anna? I mean what the heck is going on? I really want to believe that Alex is alive or they are going to find some way to bring him back for the sake of Anna because who can save her from Devin now?
I did enjoy this book as much as one can enjoy a dark book. I look forward to seeing what Ms. Honeycutt has in store for us in Ensnared.
Anna's life has taken a turn darker, even though you would think it isn't possible - but Marissa Honeycutt's warning does not lie -- Anna's life gets darker and darker and darker and then, for a change of pace, it gets even darker. There is not, honestly, much I can say in this review without spoiling things, but I will try:
Anna loses someone very dear to herself, after being (seemingly) forgotten about by Alex. Then she has a brief period of bliss, a reminder of the lost one and a new love to bloom. She finally is in reach of some semblance of happiness.... and then, in one fell swoop, ALL of it is obliterated. And Devin takes her deeper down the rabbit hole to keep control of her.
Devin is a master manipulator, and unstoppable. Alex is more than he seems. Anna has a strength that I'm not even sure she knows about, but the reader can see it between the lines. Even as she weakens further and further, you know that she'll pull through because she is an extraordinary character.
Marissa Honeycutt's storyline continues to amaze, astound, sicken and horrify the reader... and yet you can't stop reading. Because, as dark as it goes, she has promised a happy ending, so you find yourself pushing through to the next.
Again, these books can be triggers for PTSD and you need a determination and strong sense of self to read these books. If you read her warning and think, 'Maybe this isn't for me', don't read it. If it only intrigues you further, grab all three of these books and await book #4 eagerly.
Honestly, grab the books and love them. But don't say you weren't warned.
I could not put this book down! I know it is part 3 but I sure the hell hope that Alex isn't dead. That as painful at it is for Anna and the family that this is some backass words way of making Alex and Immortal. Because I shutter to think what Devin will do to Anna in the next book. Making her pregnant and then horrifying ripping it away (literally). I honestly don't get the Immortal Kavah. What the hell happened to make him what to be apart of Devin's lacky for a better term. You would think all Immortals would want to protect their kind. I have been thinking of this for a while but what the hell happened to Devin to make him treat women this way. I didn't know someone could be so blood thirsty. The differences between Germany and San Fran are incredible. Like I said I sure hope that Alex isn't dead, because I shutter to think what will happen to Anna. I wasn't quite sure I wanted to finish the series from the first book because there is a super natural element (Immortals) and I haven't been on a super natural kick for a while, but I just can't stop! I have to know what happens to Anna and will Devin and his kind fall from grace and the situation reversed. (that would almost be a fitting punishment) Or slow torturous death. I hope someone will start looking out for Anna in San Fran because I think it is going to get vey ugly.
I could not put this book down. I read it in 1 sitting! I really hope the next book is out super soon! I will definitely be reading more of Marissa Honeycutt.

"I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads."
Two advisories - firstly this is the third in a series and really has no meaning without reading the previous two. And they are amazing, so what are you waiting for? ... actually no, read next statement before dashing off ... Secondly - there is a huge warning that comes with these books and you would do well to take note of them, because they are absolutely correct. The contents of these books are deeply dark, evilly black and shocking - if that's not something you can stomach, then don't read the books.
Ok - Embraced - another brilliant book from the talented, and yet so warped mind of Ms Honeycutt. Obviously having read the previous two, I was in almost constant trepidation of something terrible happening ... much like when scary music plays in a horror movie. There were some absolutely beautiful moments, to offset the terror, and some wonderful scenes of passion and love - which Anna most definitely deserves. Now I am on tenterhooks for the next book, so I hope that writing is on the agenda. We the readers need to be appraised of the next installment of this marathon of a tale.
