Colours-: A Memoir By David Gwala Maia
A Memoir
This isn’t a perfect love story.
It’s a real one.
COLOURS is a raw and reflective memoir about love, growth, heartbreak, and the process of understanding yourself through the experiences that shape you.
Told through different phases of life, each represented by a colour, this book takes you through the emotional journey of connection, intensity, stability, and ultimately, separation. It explores what it means to build something real with someone—and what happens when that reality begins to shift.
This book doesn’t focus on blame.
There are no villains.
No perfect endings.
Instead, COLOURS focuses on understanding.
Understanding people.
Understanding timing.
Understanding that sometimes love exists… but alignment doesn’t.
Through moments of connection, pressure, routine, distance, and eventually letting go, this story highlights a truth many people face but rarely talk
You can love someone deeply…
and still have to walk away.
But this isn’t just a story about a relationship.
It’s about what comes after.
The rebuild.
The silence.
The reflection.
It explores what it means to face yourself when everything slows down. To sit with your thoughts. To process things properly. To grow without noise.
It’s about learning the difference between love and attachment. Between holding on and letting go. Between what feels right and what actually works.
COLOURS is grounded in real experiences and real emotion, but it’s also about perspective.
About becoming more aware.
More disciplined.
More intentional.
It doesn’t offer perfect answers.
It doesn’t try to tie everything together neatly.
What it offers is something more
Growth.
Clarity.
And a deeper understanding of what love actually is.
Because sometimes the most important relationships in your life…
aren’t the ones that last forever.
They’re the ones that change you forever.

This book beautifully captures the emotional weight of change, growth, and the difficult choices that come with chasing a new beginning. It really highlights the feeling of leaving behind something familiar and meaningful for the sake of something greater, even when it hurts. The emotions throughout felt genuine and relatable, and the book leaves you reflecting on sacrifice, hope, and the courage it takes to move forward.

The book was nicely written, it felt like reading a personal journal- real, raw, emotional and it captures the emotions, the thoughts, the doubts of love, changes and relationships
