Reading The Beatitudes: Through the Jewish Mussar Tradition
Concealed within the Beatitudes is a world many readers have never visited. When Jesus spoke the eight blessings of Matthew 5, he was drawing from the living well of Jewish wisdom that shaped his worldview.
This tradition has continued to develop the inner teachings of the soul for two thousand years. Today, we call it Mussar, the Jewish path of ethical and spiritual refinement.
In this book, we read the sayings of Jesus through that light, alongside Chasidic stories, modern parables, and the ever-flowing wisdom of the Rabbinic tradition.
