Another well written story of these two exceptional characters. Each of the main characters have secrets to share but are afraid too. Warwick Thornburn is the Duke of Steele and Lady Rosalynd Rosehaven is the sister of Cosmos, Chrissie , Petunia and the rest of the Rosehaven family. Steele and Roselynd left us in the last book, they had agreed to go their separate ways instead of following their hearts. Yet when a body is found in Kew Gardens and Cosmos' gun is found near the body. They agree to team up and find out who the killer is. Together with the other old friends and family working together they all try to solve who the killer really is and why it happened. Once you start reading this story, its hard to put it down and you may lose lots of sleep. Full of drama, action, society, friends, villains, family, intrigue, suspense, mystery and twists.Can't wait for the next story in this series. Fabulous, fantastic, best read in this series with a great happily ever after. Would recommend this story and series to everyone.

“Bravery is the family disease.’
Warrick Steele had broken his own heart, and lady Rosalynd’s, to keep her safe while he hunts down the man that had been behind every case they have solved. Yet his logic is flawed. Just because he thought he’d removed her from the equation, that doesn’t necessarily mean his adversary has and it becomes apparent when Rosie’s brother, Cosmo, is framed for murder with the gun the mystery man had taken from her months before and then offers to strike a deal with our intrepid heroine. He wants her for his own and if she agrees, Cosmo will go free. Of course...we know how that’s going to go and it’s a nail biting and wonderful wrap up to this chapter in Rosie and Warrick’s life but from the sneak peek at the end of the book, it appears the best is yet to come!

These books can't come fast enough
What an excellent book this was.
There are some books that are definitely worth the wait and this is one of them.
Tracking down the mysterious man who has been stalking Rosalynd is a task that seems impossible, to find a man who has learned to operate invisibly. Steele is relentless.
At the same time, Steele is pursuing another case, with assistance and permission from the Queen: but at a great cost… an end to Steele's relationship with Rosalynd.
And in the midst of everything, Rosalynd's brother Cosmos is arrested for a crime he did not commit.
The books in the series leading to this novel have placed the groundwork for masterful challenges that have been orchestrated by a villain whose planning has been precise and unpredictable.
The book is exciting with lots of twists and turns; and it is obvious that the author has done a great deal of research to be able to map out just how far the villain's reach has spread throughout society: in banking, real estate, trafficking women, walls of lawyers, money laundering, etc.
Alexander is an excellent writer. The pacing is superb. The prose is admirable… I so very much enjoyed the book from beginning to end.
In a conversation between Rosalynd and Chrissie, I was extremely entertained, and this kind of writing was constant throughout the entire book…

"Your sacrifice shall not be in vain."
She fixed me with a solemn look. "I expect chocolate afterward."
"Agreed."
"And perhaps new gloves."
"You drive a hard bargain."
"I learned from the best." And then she offered a triumphant smile.

And as much as Steele and Rosalynd endeavor to remain apart, Cosmos' circumstances require that the two join forces. And as careful as Steele is to try to protect Rosalyn, she is a force to be reckoned with. It is her spirit and their dedication to each other that gives this book of life of its own, carrying the reader along as if we were walking with them.
As a sidenote, I would not call the end of the book "cozy"… There is a wedding night scene that I thought was a little more graphic than "cozy" implies. But it is brief and not terribly graphic.
And now comes the waiting for the next book in the series.
It was such a delight to read a book with fleshed out characters, excellent conversation and repartee, as well as humor, and the love and support with family and friends that is so pleasant to experience with these characters.
It can possibly be read as a standalone, but I would recommend starting with book one of the series to fully appreciate the great chemistry that exists between Rosalynd and Steele.

I've enjoyed this series from Day One, and this one was no exception but with one little caveat for me personally...which was not a major deterrent.
This book finds Rosalynd and Steele pining following their separation (Steele made a deal with Queen Victoria which forced that distance due to safety concerns for Rosalynd). Steele is determined to unearth the shadowy figure who has been dogging their investigations (and especially Rosalynd) for some time. However meanwhile Rosalynd's brother Cosmos is arrested for a murder in Kew Gardens involving a blackmailer connected to his ladylove. The two must work together (along with their team of assorted investigators) to uncover the truth and villain behind the murder.
I did enjoy the additional angst as Rosalynd and Steele navigated their reuniting after a month apart, and I also thought the mystery was very well written and executed with suspense and plenty of action thrown in. My only caveat was that this book felt like it was wrapping up the series. I don't think that's the case as another book is mentioned for the future, but things seemed to be tying up nicely in a bow (both personally and professionally), and I honestly thought that I was reading the final book about 75% in. And with that "wrapping up" feeling everything seemed to move in hyper speed. I felt that the personal aspect especially was resolved too easily (the reasoning behind neither wishing to marry), and the whole last 15-20% of the book everything felt like it was almost from another series as far as the previous storylines were concerned. I did not think that it tied in well at all with the issues/obstacles that came before. Or if it did, it was too easily settled on. It almost left me feeling removed from Rosalynd and Steele as they seemed to exhibit traits that didn't fit what I had come to see in or believe about them. It was a bit disorienting for me and took a little away from what otherwise were happy events going forward.
Having said all that, it was per usual a well-written, humorous (I'm especially looking at you, Petunia), angsty and well-planned installment, and I'm definitely looking forward to more in the future.

Book 5 of the series, and this story takes place several weeks after book 4, after which Rosalynd and the Duke of Steele have severed their acquaintance. Warwick, the Duke, has been secretly looking into the masked man who has accosted Rosalynd in the past and continues to be a looming threat, using the resources at hand, such as Finch and Inspector Graves.
Rosalynd, not aware of what Steele is doing to protect her, continues to manage the Rosehaven family. But their peace is rent asunder again when a body is discovered at Kew Gardens, and signs indicate that her brother, Cosmos, the Earl of Rosehaven is involved. At first, he is just brought in for questioning, but soon taken away and jailed, accused of the murder. Despite their seperation, Rosalynd seeks help from Steele, and Warwick cannot turn away from her and her family.
Soon it becomes evident that the two investigations are linked to the one man, and the murder was a trap set for Rosalynd, and she discovers that Warwick has been keeping secrets from her. Being a strong, intelligent woman, she does not appreciate being kept ignorant and wrapped in cotton wool to protected.
Lots of angst and family drama, involving all members of the Rosehaven clan, including one prodigal son, as Rosalynd and Steele end up working together again to clear Cosmos of the charge of murder and discover the mastermind who has been running a secret criminal empire, and now has his sites on entrapping Rosalynd. There is also a parallel romance occuring as well, and significant changes in the family situation. Love how well developed the secondary characters are, and how they all interact together. Rosalynd and Steele cannot stay away from each other in the end, but she is also not willing to move forward unless the terms of their relationship are agreeable to her as well. Just like she fights to have a say and a role in their investigations. She is no wilting flower for sure.

At the end of the last book, Rosalind and Steele had been ordered by the queen to either stop seeing each other or get married. While they’re both miserable, they’re staying away from each other and following the queen’s “advice.” Until Rosalind’s brother Cosmos gets arrested for murder, framed by the mysterious masked man who’s been stalking Rosalind.
Steele keeps trying to keep Rosalind out of his investigation into the murder for her own safety, but she refuses to sit on the sidelines. It’s not just about finding a murderer; it’s about keeping her family safe.
This book is an intense ride from start to finish. There’s so much happening with the case, the masked man, family secrets and changes. It’s a high-speed ride from start to finish. Ms. Alexander does an incredible job, using the historical details of the period to suck you into story, and once you’re there, you can’t get away. The feelings of desperation Rosalind and Steele feel trying to protect their loved ones is so realistic, I found myself unable to put the book down until the very end.

A Murder at Kew Gardens is the fifth Rosalynd and Steele Mystery by Magda Alexander. Set in 1889 London it features Lady Rosalynd Rosehaven, sister of the Earl of Rosehaven, and her neighbor Warwick Thornburn, the Duke of Steele.
This book begins shortly after the end of the fourth book, A Murder at the Royal Opera, when the queen had delivered an ultimatum that the two either make their relationship public, leading to an eventual marriage, or end the relationship permanently. The early part of the book has them both agonizing over their decision to part, and Steele's determination to secretly investigate the masked man who had threatened Rosalynd. The beginning seemed somewhat slow and overdone.
The pace picks up after a body is found along with a pistol belonging to Rosalynd's brother Cosmos, the Earl of Rosehaven, a pistol Rosalynd had taken from his study and lost at the end of the previous book. As the investigations of the masked man and the murder progress the middle of the book becomes close to unputdownable. The final part discusses various personal and family relationships. Most of Rosalynd's many siblings are mentioned throughout the book, but not younger brother William who finally appears at the end.
Because the beginning of the story so closely relates to the ending of the previous book reading it as a standalone is not recommended.

This relates to the ultimatum given by the queen in the last book and this one picks up very soon after that.

I thought the previous stories were a rollercoaster ride and each chapter steeped in suspense but this one exceeded my expectations!

Cosmos Rosie’s brother has secrets of his own and they make a case against him!
Steele kept his distance for almost a month and the villain kept compiling more and more leverage! I have longed for more heat in the relationship between them and let’s just say the steam gave me a facial!
Family over everything and Rosehaven House pulls together as no other in crises! If I could give it 10 stars I would! OUTSTANDING!

I’m a huge fan of this series, and I’ve been eagerly awaiting Rosalynd and Steele’s newest adventure. The latest installment in this slow-burning Victorian sleuth mystery romance series had me hooked from the very beginning. Once again, the well-written plot is well-paced, told in the past tense from dual points of view, and brimming with emotion, a few funny moments, twists, action, suspense, intrigue, drama, violence, and mild steamy scenes. Steele and Rosalynd are an endearing duo I fell in love with right from the start of the series. She is strong, brave, and intelligent—the one who takes care of her quirky family—while Steele is calm, protective, a little autocratic, and, after suffering personal losses, has vowed never to marry again. Their chemistry, their longing for one another, and their inner conflicts were palpable throughout the series, and this time they get their long-awaited happy ending.
I also love the fantastic cast of supporting characters who bring humor to the story. I was most surprised by Rosalynd’s older brother Cosmos, whom I had previously perceived as an awkward and “absent-minded professor,” but who proved his competence and depth in this story.
For the past three weeks, Rosalynd and Steele have complied with Queen Victoria’s request and cut off contact with each other, since neither of them, despite their love for one another, is willing to marry. But then, out of the blue, Rosalynd’s brother is suspected of a murder he did not commit, and Rosalynd blames herself, since her brother’s pistol was found next to the body—the very same pistol she herself had stolen from her brother’s desk and that had been taken from her on the Thames by her masked adversary. So she asks Steele for his help. Steele hasn't been able to get her out of his mind for the past few weeks and has been secretly investigating the masked man who accosted Rosalynd.
As they try to clear Cosmos’s name, they soon realize that this case is connected to their previous investigations and the shadowy man Steele has been pursuing. In the process, they are drawn deeper and deeper into a web of corruption, secrets, and violence, because the mastermind behind the organization is obsessed with Rosalynd and will stop at nothing to get her…
If you enjoy a captivating blend of Victorian mystery and a slowly unfolding love story (that runs throughout the entire series), featuring a protective and brooding hero, a strong and courageous female lead, a whole cast of likable supporting characters, action, danger, heart, humor, and mild heat, then you’re sure to enjoy this book. I recommend reading the series in order.

When Lady Rosalynd’s brother, Cosmos, is accused of murder she has no choice but to go to the Duke of Steele for assistance. The two have been keeping their distance after Her Majesty suggested their relationship was unseemly, unless they were married. Steele gathers manpower and sets up a plan to investigate. Soon, it appears an enemy from their past is behind the crime and he intentionally framed Cosmos. Rosalynd and Steele must have all their wits about them to free Cosmos and save themselves.
“A Murder in Kew Gardens” is another excellent book in the Rosalynd and Steele Mysteries series. The mystery is complex and clues are hard to come by. The cast of characters works flawlessly at this point. There are many edge of your seat moments and many tender moments. This story is best read as part of the series. I can’t wait for the next installment in the series.

What A Wild Ride!
What an action packed addition to this series. As foreshadowed in previous book when the villain obtained Rosalyn's borrowed brother's gun which she dropped when she met him while trying to free the women that had been kidnapped for sexual exploitation, it was used to frame her brother, Cosmos for the murder of another peer. While I questioned that a peer would be so quickly imprisoned, it didn't distract from the story's unfolding. Of course, Rosalyn enlisted Steele to help her brother & to join her in investigating who really did the murder. So Rosalyn's friend, Claire has a key role & even her sister, Chrissy plays a part along with Mr Finch & Inspector Graves. Inspector Dodson is his usual arrogant & wrong minded self. It's clear who is behind the framing of her brother. Things progressed relatively quickly & ended with several surprises. It's good to know that Rosalyn & Steele have another upcoming mystery to solve because I really like them & their family & friends.

While I find the series' brisk tone irritating, it softens, especially toward the end of this book, adding warmth and depth to the characters. We see more of the interaction between the siblings and have a glimpse at their characters. Especially, I liked Honeycott and his emotional steadiness.

Love, love, love this latest book in this series. Lady Rosalynd and the Duke Steele are drawn together to keep her brother from being hanged after finding his gun near a corpse in Kew Gardens. The Queen has forbidden them to be seen together or that's what Rosalynd believes, when it is actually The Duke's idea, in order to pursue a dangerous criminal who operates in the gritty underworld of Victorian Society. It is a suspenseful investigation into the underbelly of Society, trying to keep it from the Queen, and knowing it's really Rosalynd the criminal is after! I thoroughly enjoyed it, except the reasons for them not being together. I find Lady Rosalynd's reasons to be ludicrous. She lives across the street! She could see the children daily, it makes no sense to me. I highly recommend this book and the others in the series. Thank you,

I was waiting eagerly for this particular book as the ending of the previous installment in this series left me wondering what could Steele have plotted and how things really stood with Rosalynd.
The story has all I Iook for in a mystery book with a hint of romance, the characters are marvellously depicted, the plot perfectly thought out and the ending ingeniously crafted.
I hope to see more in the future of Petunia and Chrissie, maybe along with some new adventure of Snowball.

After a string of unsatisfactory books, I was almost going to give up reading for a while, but A Murder at Kew Gardens is one of the best books I've read this year. But then, Ms. Alexander is never disappointing, is she?
This book has been particularly action packed, with a murder staged to point the finger at Rosalynd's brother, a hunt for the mysterious masked man, the villain of previous books, a kidnapping, a boat chase down the Thames... I was biting my nails all the time, anxious to see how things went. And the romance angle is also quite exciting.

And Petunia and her cat Snowball. Just a great read.

Rosalynd and Steele are at odds, and she doesn't know why. Steele is keeping her at arms length and both of them are hurting because of it. I so enjoy the sarcastic banner between characters in this story, and loved seeing Cosmos’ future fulfilled. Petunia is her effervescent self, though a little subdued, maybe because her family is in an uproar . We finally get to see who is behind the issues the last couple of stories and the first climax was certainly very tense and entertaining . I absolutely adored this story and am ever so glad there will be another!

I ❤️ this book
Read the series in order. Yes Steele and Rosalynd have a slow burn but it’s fun watching them grow together as they solve mysteries and crimes. Their banter is really fun to read and the mysteries are worked out by a series of people. The siblings are interesting, intelligent and we are watching them grow. These are intelligent people living in a stifling society and still finding ways to go around it. This story is the final stage of a five book series where we meet the ultimate villain. It can get tense but this is definitely a binge read after you finish 1-4 in the series. And I was joyfully shown that there is a book 6 coming out. I’m addicted.

July 1889 Chief Inspector Dodson arrived at Rosehaven House to take in Cosmos, Earl of Rosehaven, older brother to Rosalynd, as a body has been found in Kew Gardens, with his pistol nearby. Meanwhile Steele has been in charge of a covert investigation. But soon the two become one investigation.
An entertaining and well-written historical mystery with its cast of likeable and interesting characters. Another good addition to this enjoyable series.

This was a loaded one. Not only do we get murder, we get the intrigue of a secret lover of Rosalyn's pursuing her throughout the story!! There are also a couple of romances to captivate the imagination and heart too. This is a very busy " behind the scenes " stories within. I loved all the secrets and how things worked out in the end. A captivating and entertaining read. I look forward to following these families.

Enjoyable!
This is the second book in this series that I have read and it was intriguing and riveting from the beginning. Lady Rosalyne and the Duke of Steele are once again pursuing answers to a tangled and complicated mystery, and this time it involves her brother Cosmos. Fast paced, well written and entertaining I loved every bit of it. I have read all of the books in another series written by this author, but this is becoming one where I must go back and start at the beginning. Well done!

One of the best chapters in the book is the wit that Rosie and Chrissie display at the musicale. Proving that the author is capable of a light, witty touch. But the florid (no other word for it) prose from every character involved in any way in investigating is just…strange. Speeches between characters often feel unnatural, because they are more like planned speeches than real conversations. The long denouement was a rather nice touch, as the romance in such novels is often glossed over. It was, however, given more consideration than the actual climax, which was a little dull.

Rosalynd and Steele are drawn into a murder which appears to have taken place in Kew Gardens, but it quickly becomes evident that the body was moved. Tosalynd's brother is the prime suspect, As he is dragged off to be questioned at Scotland Yard, his sister and the duke of Steele go into action to prove his innocence and to discover the real killer. But Queen Victoria has ordered the two of them not to be seen together in public or she will force a marriage. But would that be so bad? Romance and detective work get all tangled up as Cosmos also finds himself in love and wanting to protect his love. Does the happy ending here mean the series is at an end?

I loved this "chapter" in the series as it finally allows things to happen that should. The idea that a villain should become so obsessed with Rosalyn that he would do anything to possess her! Wow! Is Steele up to the challenge of saving Rosalyn from this true monster? Great read with lots of action - especially from Steele's home to Rosalyn's and back! I heartily recommend this novel and look forward to the next in this series. Although I received an advance review copy for free, my opinions are my own and left voluntarily.

This episode is riveting! Steele is determined to keep Rosalynd safe to the point of making decisions that affect her. Rosalynd isn't very happy. I love how we see and understand the action from both characters. We see their thoughts and emotions which deepens the story. The mystery part was very well written. I enjoyed the clues as well as Rosalynd's intuition and how she trusts it to guide her even though the men discount her. A great mystery that is so fun to read, especially with Petunia adding to the fun!

Wonderful, wonderful, addition to this series! We finally find out about the gun that was stolen from Rosalynd that belonged to her brother Cosmos and it’s not good. Our star-crossed lovers need to put off their separation and solve a murder. You must read this series in order, it’s absolutely worth it!

This is well written book. The mystery part of the story is good. It is more than just a murder mystery; it is more complex and has some creative elements in it. The relationship between Rosalynd and Steele continues to be complicated. I was satisfied with the ending of the book.

I really enjoyed this book. The relationship between Roslyn’s and Steele has matured and the awareness made the tension interesting. Glad to get some resolution for Claire and Cosmo. Still some interesting story lines to pursue. Can’t wait
