Just a little bit of Roe for in between. Sex, yeah, plenty of it, but no heat-sex—and that’s not necessary anyway; that’s not what this is about.

This was sooooooooooo sweet. I’d never read this pairing before—older omega and younger alpha—but I’m sure I’m going to seek out more.

Chase was amazing and soooo sweet, and Jay… well, after a good dicking—or better, several good dickings—he was ready for more!

Jay’s Boy Toy by Roe Horvat is a short but satisfying read that delivers exactly what fans of the Winter Sun world expect: high heat, deep tenderness, and an unexpectedly soft, swoony alpha.

Jay is the sweet, slightly world-weary single dad (brother to Hugh from earlier in the series) who isn’t looking for forever. Chase, the younger alpha personal trainer from his gym, seems even less like relationship material. What starts as a no-strings night of “guiltless pleasure” quickly turns into something neither of them planned… or wants to let go of.

This novella shines in Roe’s signature way: intense chemistry paired with emotional warmth. Chase may be younger, but he’s all gentle confidence and devotion, while Jay’s vulnerability as a father makes their connection feel grounded and real. This is such a fun and heated read. Chase is such a great alpha, one I think all omega's dream of - kind, considerate, and definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to... that :-) Jay knows what he wants and it's just an alpha to give him a good time. That's pretty much it, but he didn't know that Chase comes with so much more than just... that.
This is actually my first read of this series but I definitely need to go back and read the previous books, especially the one with Hugh, Jay's older alpha brother, because he is completely gone for his omega, Kirby, who is so lovely.
Definitely another recommended read from Roe!

It’s so cute, spicy AF, low angst. Perfect Roe Horvat novella.

Jay Urban is an omega, thirty-seven, a single dad, and very clear about what he wants:

Chase is an Alpha, twenty-five, single, the PT at the gym, and listening to Jay, he can’t believe his ears. This attractive omega just wants sex, something Chase can and wants to give.
Deep breath and there he goes with his question: “Do you want to come to my place? For sex.”

It didn’t stay for one night. It was too good. Jay was satisfied, and that’s the only thing that counted for Chase. Yes, Chase had it bad, he knew he had to tone down or Jay would fly and never return. Chase is head over heels.

It was a hot and sweet story. Jay and Chase are a perfect fit. Jay’s brother Hugh and his husband Kirby (#3 Trouble) are here too, as well as Jay’s thirteen-year-old son Monty.
Overall a wonderful, short, fast-paced, hot read, with all the feels!

3,5⭐️ why was this so short? I love a good novella, when everything is compressed and gives a good punch, but here it kinda missed. Don’t get me wrong, it was sweet, by Roe standards of omegaverse very mild. No heat sex, easy on the slick 😉 I loved the reversed age gap between alpha and omega, Chase was amazing alpha, very careful and caring I just couldn’t get how he developed feelings this fast, but who cares. Jay not only got a boy toy at the end, but a loving partner 🌸

This is a delightful novella in Roe Horvat’s Winter Sun series. I love younger alpha older omega types of tales or really any book where the traditional narrative is flipped. Jay has been through so much and I like how Horvat has had Chase be such a steady character for Jay even though he’s relatively young at 25. I loved this book and I only wish it was longer because these were great characters that had a great storyline.

Another entertaining, if surface level, fun read in Roe Horvat's Winter Sun world. It's a novella, but usually the author does more character development. Still, truly fun! Hot, intimate sex galore.

Age-gap omegaverse, younger alpha physical trainer Chase gets into casual hookups relationship with older single-dad omega Jay (brother of Hugh from the previous book, which I have not read). Jay discounts Chase as a true romantic option, but, god, does he love being wanted and worshiped by this kind, sensual alpha. Dating has been disaster after disaster, and he's finally getting the dicking down he's been longing for.

Oh, but those pesky feelings ignite...well, for Chase they do.

I felt like we didn't get to know Jay very well, and learning he'd fallen for Jay came kinda out of nowhere, he was so skittish and reluctant, and we don't see his emotional evolution the way we do Chase's.

we also learn pretty much nother about either's backstory, I don't even remember if Chase has family or friends, or how he became a trainer, and all we hear about Jay becoming a single dad is that his son (13, Monty)'s father fucked off when Jay was 5 months pregnant. Nothing about the circumstances, who that is, how it really impacted Jay apart from not being able to fuck around in his 20s (yawn, boring, give me substance!).

But still, I had a great time and it's hot.

HEA, age gap, older single-dad omega, younger (12 years) alpha, casual hookups to falling in love. No OM action or drama, totally safe for me. Recommended for a nice brain break.

I feel like Patreon has ruined some of my favorite authors. The more they get into it, the less I like their books.

I did not enjoy this book. It wasn't sexy or passionate or sweet or funny or heartwarming or emotional. It wasn't anything that initially drew me in to this author's books. I don't like every trope they write, but the ones I do, I've pretty much loved up until the past year or so.

Jay and Chase were just fine all around. But I didn't get any real emotion from them. And I just didn't think their story was good. Even if this novella was just for a smutty break from other heavier stuff, it failed, imo. I wasn't entertained at all. But I have FOMO, and rarely DNF, especially something so short, so I finished it. But I was counting down the pages, lol. I mean, compared to other novellas by this author (Milk, Cream, Cabin Fever), this one is severely lacking. Even with the novellas, I'm used to more heart and emotion, so I guess I'm just disappointed more than anything.

Anyways, I hope the next book by Roe is back to the basics. Something like Precious, Ugly, Freefall, or Bite Me would be amazing.

Jay has been out of the dating world for awhile and stepping back into it wasn't as exciting as it was talked up to be. After a not great date Jay goes to the gym to well hide out 🤣 there he runs into Chase who has been checking Jay out very discreetly and has finally worked up the nerve to say something only for Jay to basically school him in well "the needs" of an Elder Omega 🤣 He needs the 🍆 and he needs it bad! So Chase is like "I GOTCHU" and they start their friends with benefits situation...only.....feelings get caught and now Jay has to figure out what he actually wants for his future.
These two were so adorable and their chemistry was just 🔥🔥 I loved the fact that I could just sit back and enjoy the story and watch everything unfold. I really missed the Winter Sun world and the bits with Kirby were perfect 💙

I needed more! The Winter Sun series was my first time reading Roe’s work and I’ve been hooked ever since.

I loved the age gap dynamic between Jay and Chase. Jay being an older omega who’s been through a rough time and being a single dad, didn’t exactly want to commit to a relationship.

He had his son to think about and his heart. He just wanted to have some fun and destress at the same time, so when Chase offered him to give him just that, he couldn’t say no.

But Chase wanted more than to just be Jay’s release outlet. He wanted something more serious. He wanted to give Jay the happiness he was denied and show him that he was safe with him.

Against all odds, Jay ended up falling as much in love with Chase as Chase fell in love with him. Chase ended up being the perfect partner Jay navel had and one he was more than happy to have found.

I loved this story but I wish it was longer😅 I can’t never get enough of Roe’s fantastic stories.

This is a novella that ties into the Winter Sun series and while it was quick it still felt like a lot happened and with the limited time we had for Jay and Chase’s story it still felt fulfilling in the limited time we had to explore their age gap FWB to lovers journey.

Chase is a younger personal trainer who meets Jay when he hides out in Chase’s gym after avoiding another bad date in a line of bad dates. Jay wants something with no strings and Chase is eager to offer but he quickly falls for Jay who is hesitant to be in a relationship with someone younger than him. Chase proves that he’s ready for something more serious despite their age difference. It’s sweet and spicy and I loved their story.

Roe Horvat writes the best erotic romance and Jay’s Boy Toy was no exception. This is a short novella with a really hot age-gap that is also kind of sweet. Jay is an older omega with a child and Chase is a kind and caring younger alpha. What starts out to be just a good time for both of them – but particularly for Jay who’s not looking for a relationship – turns into so much more. This was another winner for me.

This is <100 pages. It was going to be almost impossible for this to be a 5 star read for me because how could I ever feel satisfied with a new couple's story starting and ending in 8 chapters?
I just didn't feel like I got to know either of that characters at all. Maybe it would have been better if I had read the previous book more recently but it's been a year so none of it was fresh in my mind.

If you're looking for a quick, fluffy, low angst bit of spice then this is a great read.

Mr. Horvat, it was just getting good! Why did you end it like this. I loved Chase. He was young, but so intelligent and loved Jay!! I'm glad Jay let himself be happy!! It was good to see Kirby and Hugh again! Makes me want to do a re-read! Good book! Can't wait for the next book!!

This is a zero-angst love story that's overflowing with both sugar and spice. I loved everything about this novella. Well, almost everything. The only thing I might change would be it's length. Yes, there were enough pages to have the love build naturally, and the story is complete enough as is, but I liked the couple so much that I suppose I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet.

What a sweet and spicy story! I fell for Chase instantaneously. He’s such an incredibly endearing alpha. The gentle way he works his way through Jay’s defenses is a challenge for the independent older omega.
