Lacy is a published writer, but her career has slowed since her last book. When several stops on her book tour are canceled, she starts to wonder how to reconnect with her readers. At her latest signing, she runs into her ex, Elliott, and meets a mysterious woman who dislikes her books. Later, Lacy sees this woman again and, trying to avoid her, is suddenly transported into another world. She finds herself inside one of her own books, playing the main character. Convinced the mysterious woman has cursed her to live out her stories, Lacy turns to Elliott for help. As she moves from story to story, Lacy may rediscover her passion for writing and reconnect with the person she once loved.

This was a really fun romance. After all, who wouldn’t want to experience the life of one of their own characters, even just for a little while? I loved Lacy and Elliott as the main characters, and it was great to see how they navigated the different stories. Some of the characters were completely over the top, and I laughed out loud at some of the stranger genres (monster romance, anyone?)It seemed that each story gave a piece of their own romance story, from why they ended things six years ago to figuring out whether their romance could have a second chance. Overall, this was a unique romance story, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves romantic comedies.

The Romance Loop is out May 26th.

Lacy finds herself the main character in her books. She turns to her ex-Elliot, for help and the more they try to rewrite the story, the more the story tries to rewrite them!

Over all cute, quick read that had me rooting for Lacy and Elliot to find their way back to each other and write their happily ever after.

Thank you to the author, Mary Shotwell, Publisher City Owl Press and BookSprout, for the opportunity to read this book. I received a gifted copy and am leaving my review voluntarily.

Thank you to the author, Mary Shotwell, for a digital ARC of The Romance Loop!

I absolutely loved this second chance romance about an author who ends up inside the worlds she wrote about. Lacy is an author whose career seems to have plateaued, and she’s unexpectedly reunited with her ex boyfriend at a book signing event. A mysterious woman is also at the event, and as Lacy tries to escape the woman’s attention, she ends up transported into one of her novels, as the heroine. Through the course of the book, and through adventures in more of her novels, she uncovers what may be making her plots too perfect, and what she has to do in order to get back to the real world for good. I laughed out loud, I teared up, and ultimately I finished this book in just a few days because I couldn’t put it down. I’ve never read anything like this and that’s what I really enjoyed!

As someone who loves a good rom-com, it’s only a matter of time before you’ve seen every trope...more than once. That’s what made Lacy and Elliot’s story feel like such a breath of fresh air. The concept of being forced to “quantum leap” through your own stories and confront just how “perfect” they seem on the page versus reality? Genuinely so clever.

I had such a great time following Lacy and Elliot as they poked fun at the tropes we all know so well, especially the kind that often lack depth, much like Lacy’s more recent books. I found myself completely hooked, to the point where I was literally walking and reading during my morning commute, just to see where the story would take them next.

One of my favorite aspects was how real the characters felt. It’s messy, imperfect, and much more grounded...which really feels like the point of the story.

Lacy says it best:

Don’t get me wrong, I love a cheesy happy ending as much as the next reader. But what really draws me in is when characters feel human. When they’re flawed, complicated, and not just perfectly crafted people destined to fall in love. That’s what makes a story stick with me, the ability to see both the imperfections and the beauty in them, and recognize a bit of real life in the process.
I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s perfect for anyone looking to refresh their perspective on rom-coms and go on a genuinely fun, heartfelt ride with Lacy and Elliot!

Thank you to Signal House Press for the ARC! The Romance Loop is out May 26, 2026 and I highly suggest "leaping" not running to give it a read!

**ARC REVIEW**

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Reading Method: 📚
Length: 269 pages
Genre: Romance

Thank you @authormaryshotwell for trusting me with an Advanced Reader Copy of your upcoming novel, The Romance Loop.

I absolutely LOVED the premise of this book. It was so unique and original and I was very excited to dive in. It's unlike anything I've previously read.

I'm not going to do the synopsis justice so I've quoted some from the Amazon description.

An angry fan visits Lacy Travers at her new-release book signing, accusing her of poorly written novels and ruining love. Her ex-bf, Elliott, happens to be there and saves her from the disgruntled woman.

This woman puts a "spell" on Lacy, forcing her into the books she's written, as the heroine of the story. "Trapped in her own romance novel—with no clue how to escape—Lacy must survive cringy tropes, steam-soaked plot twists, and the very clichés she once mocked. When Elliott gets pulled into the chaos too, the two must navigate vampire seductions, cowboy duels, and more than a few forced proximity scenes. ...The more they rewrite the story, the more the story rewrites them."

Sounds dope, right!?

Unfortunately, the story fell a bit flat for me. I wanted more! More character development, a stronger backstory for Lacy and Elliott, more about the mysterious lady and HOW she did what she did. I wanted more time in each book, more dialog from those characters (like with the cowboy story!). This could have been a hundred more pages of story and details to make me care about Lacy and Elliott. I really wanted to invest in their story and root for their future, but ended up not emotionally connecting at all.

That being said.... This was a fast and fun read! If you want something that isn't serious, is intentionally cringy and will make you laugh, check it out! The overall premise is fantastic and the banter between the characters is very well written. I just wanted a bit "more" from the story.

Thanks again for the opportunity to review this upcoming release!

What a cute, original concept!

Lacy, a romance writer who's hitting sales roadblocks, runs into her ex-boyfriend Elliot at her book signing. He invites her to his niece's birthday party, but right as Lacy enters the home, she blacks out! Crazily, she wakes up in Baltimore as a surgeon! It doesn't take long before she realizes she's in one of HER books! But how can she return to her own timeline? She certainly CANNOT perform BRAIN SURGERY in this timeline! She lucks into an answer, returning to real life, and turns to Elliot for help. Was running into him, then seeking him out the reason she went back in time? They loved each other once, but he's not the reason she writes- they broke up after all, no romance here. But Lacy trusts him, and Elliot's such a gentleman that while he doesn't exactly understand, he helps her unwaveringly. Soon, he too finds himself in one of her stories and understanding dawns far too clearly. What follows is a sweet romp through adorable and overplayed troupes, all in the hopes of finding a way to end this Romance Loop. Along the way, Lacy discovers more about herself, where she's been falling short as a writer, and why her relationship with Elliot ended. Can she accept that real people are flawed and imperfect? Can they both learn to communicate in this real, messy life without letting anyone else write their story for them? Loved it!

Personally, the length felt perfect! Not too many quantum leaps and short enough that I want to grab Shotwell's next book! And while I would not have disrupted a professor's class after a questionable psychotic break unless we were married or he was my dad, 😅 I realize I'm an introvert, so it's easy to accept her decision as an extroverted one and move on!

Troupes: Ex-reunion meet cute, strong female lead, cinnamon roll male, miscommunication break-up, second chance romance
Spice: 0/5 🌶️
Gore: 0/5 🩸
Language: 0/5 🫢

Big thanks to Victory Editing and NetGalley for the ARC!

The Romance Loop by Mary Shotwell is the story of Lacy, a romance writer, whose career has flatlined.

Lucy unexpectedly reunites with her ex, Elliott at her very quiet book signing. Elliott defends her from a critical reader and invites her to a family gathering. Unfortunately, just as Lucy arrives at the celebration, she is mysteriously transported into one of her own novels, appearing as the heroine.

As Lacy tries to get out of this predicament, she ends up in more scenarios from her books, working her way through the many romantic tropes she had used in her novels.

I thought this book had a really interesting concept and was quite fun to read. My only critique was that I thought that the ending seemed rushed and could have been a bit longer.

Book overview
What if your love story rewrote you?

Romance author Lacy Travers’s career is flatter than the champagne at her last pity party. So when a disgruntled fan accuses her of “ruining love” at a sad little book signing—and her ex-boyfriend Elliott swoops in like a knight in polyester armor—it’s just another weird chapter in her life.

But things take a surreal turn when a party invite lands her not in Elliott’s apartment... but in anoperating room. As the surgeon. In a world straight out of one of her books.

Trapped in her own romance novel—with no clue how to escape—Lacy must survive cringey tropes, steam-soaked plot twists, and the very clichés she once mocked. When Elliott gets pulled into the chaos too, the two must navigate vampire seductions, cowboy duels, and more than a few forced proximity scenes.

The real kicker? The more they rewrite the story, the more the story rewrites them.

With every sizzling page turned, Lacy begins to question the love she’s always written off—and the nerdy sci-fi writer who’s been beside her all along.

Thank you to Mary Shotwell for a digital arc. I went into this book not knowing what to expect. I knew there were some magical elements and a second chance romance but not much more than that. Here we have Lacy, a romance writer whose books aren’t doing as well as they once were. After running into her ex Elliot at a book signing, she’s then told by a fan that her books aren’t that great and is cursed to somehow jump into the stories. Now this may be a dream come true for some of us but is a nightmare for Lacy who is not enjoying living out her writing. She then turns to Elliot for help to somehow break the curse.

I really enjoyed the vibes of this book. I liked that Elliot is just a regular dude teaching at a university. He’s pretty down to help Lacy despite her sounding crazy and of course believes her once she disappears before his own eyes. I felt like Lacy and Elliot made an interesting team. I had a lot of fun seeing them out into so many different situations. I would’ve loved to explore certain stories a bit more, especially once Elliot got involved. Maybe even fall into a book of hers he had read.

I wish we’d gotten more details on the curse. We find out a pretty big hint about who the mystery lady was at the end but I feel like the build up and reveal could’ve been bigger. Lacy’s publicist Miles finds out details that simply shouldn’t be possible and I have to know how it all worked out. I also wish we’d gotten to talk through the break up a bit more. I feel like there was a lot of build up to a why but then once we got there we didn’t talk about it beyond Lacy feeling like choices were taken from her. She definitely wasn’t wrong but I feel like she could’ve let Elliot explain what he was feeling especially since they were in their early 20s when it happened.

Oh, I loved this so much! This was such a fun, clever, and completely entertaining read from start to finish.

Think Quantum Leap, but make it romance, book tropes, and plenty of humour, that's the heart of this story.

Lacy - a struggling romance author has a book signing from nightmares when she's confronted by a disgruntled fan. Soon after, her life takes a bizarre turn when she starts finding herself transported through doorways into the worlds of her own romance novels.

When she confides in her ex-boyfriend Elliott, he ends up getting pulled into the chaos too, and that's when the real fun begins. Together, they have to navigate a whirlwind of romance tropes, from firefighters and cowboys to vampires, aliens, and everything in between. But why is Lacy trapped in this romance loop, and will she ever be able to walk through a doorway without ending up in another fictional world?

What I loved most was how the story managed to be funny while also offering a surprisingly thoughtful commentary on romance novels. It playfully highlights how certain tropes and character archetypes can become predictable, while reminding us that real love is often messier, more emotional, and far less straightforward than fiction would have us believe.

Lacy and Elliott were fantastic characters. Their banter was spot on, their chemistry felt natural, and some of the situations poor Elliott found himself in had me chuckling along. I was completely invested in their journey.

Packed with humour, heart, romance, and a healthy dose of trope-filled chaos, this was an absolute joy to read. If you're a romance reader who loves books that celebrate the genre while having a little fun with it, this one is definitely worth picking up.

I received a copy of this arc from the author after finding her on Threads/Instagram. Overall such a fun read!
It's cute and a little cheesy (in a good way!). There were many moments where I was just giggling and kicking my feet in joy.
I really enjoyed this time loop, quantum leap through the fmc's published/written romance books/short stories. The plot felt unique. It poked a little bit of fun at the romance genre and the prolific romance authors with their perfect love stories (that probably aren't super perfect in reality). It definitely poked fun at many of the tropes we see so often in romance (the hero/heroine stereotypes, the insta love etc.)

I enjoyed Lacy and Elliot as characters. Their interactions felt true to their history.* They really seemed to play well against one another. They also felt like real people in a lot of ways with their imperfections and individual voices.

I will say, I think this could have been longer. I was enjoying the jumping through stories and Lacy learning about herself and her writing and then it just, wrapped up very quickly.
The ending felt a little rushed although I enjoyed what the protagonist's did in the last few chapters.

*Slightly spoilery - but towards the end of the book, the miscommunication really annoyed me. Lacy protects herself throughout the story but there were a couple of scenes where it felt like she was just obstinately misunderstanding for the sake of the story.

This is a really interesting premise, where Lacy reconnects with her ex (Elliot) and until they can work out their future, they are faced with the curse of being transported into parts of Lacy's stories. Lacy writes romance of course so cue some awkward romantic encounters as they journey from firefighter romances, to alien romances, to cowboy romances. These trips into Lacy's stories prove that the truth always outs, love always wins, and shows them both what has been missing in the years since they parted.
I absolutely adored the idea of jumping in and out of stories in search of the answer, they all (mostly, not sure I'm keen on alien romance afterall...) sound like great reads on their own, the author has a number of ideas here should she wish to develop them into full or even a series of short stories!
Lacy and Elliot are really interesting characters, I thought they had great dialogue, obvious chemistry, and there were plenty of laughs between them and some of the other characters.
This is a super quick read, I finished it in a couple of sittings in around 24hours. I hadn't been totally sold by the title or cover, I didn’t think the story was clear from this, but having read it, I now totally understand the idea!
I hadn't read anything from this author before but I definitely would read more in the future.

Imagine if you were a successful romance author, with a less than successful personal love life, and you all-of-sudden get thrown quantum style into almost every single romance plot you’ve ever written as the female lead!? 🤦🏻‍♀️📖

Well, that’s what happens to Lacy after a less than successful book signing at a local book shop 🏬 Not only does Lacy bump into an old flame, Elliott, who is hiding among the shelves, but she also has to deal with a very disgruntled, suspicious reader who seems to have a very special message for Lacy… 👀🤫

Is it just a coincidence that, after this bizarre encounter, Lacy finds herself in a neverending time travel loop as the main love interest in EVERY single one of her books? And why is Elliott now turning up in these alternate universes too!? 🌍👫

More importantly - HOW DOES SHE MAKE IT STOP?! ✋😱

The Romance Loop takes us on a light-hearted journey of romantic discovery and exploration - it gives the old classic ‘Freaky Friday’-esque storyline of learning a big life lesson through experiencing things from a different perspective, which I loved! 💭💙

Travelling with Lacy and Elliott into the different romance plots that Lacy had written over the years was so much fun - you never know where they’re going to end up next 🤠🩺🧑‍🚒

I’d highly recommend this if you’re looking for an easily digestible, upbeat and entertaining romance as your next read! 👏🏼

ARC REVIEW!!

Just when Lacy thinks things cant get worse boy was she wrong! Lacy's career as a successful author has hit a few speed bumps slowing her and her saled way down. Book signings canceled all over the country Lacy is pushing up her sleeves and trying to make the remaining dates a smash hit. At one event where only 2 people showed Lacy is already discouraged when who should she see but her x Elliott! After a awkward encounter with x Lacy is soon not only berated but then followed by a very disgruntled reader. Next thing Lacy knows over the next few days Lacy is literally disappearing into other worlds. But why do they feel familiar??? How is she ending up in the very books and storyline that aren't selling?! How does this happen and better yet How does she make it stop?!

This was a great read for me! It was quick, witty and fun. Mary did a great job of drawing you in without losing you in timelines or story to story jumps! I loved the characters and their very believable banter. Im not usually a big second chance romance reader or into multiple universe but this story was very enjoyable and I couldn't put it down. Was a really great palette reset between series since its such a fun and easy read! Really wish Riley had been on the cover though (such a good girl)!

Review of Advance Reader Copy from Author:

Lacy is a romance author struggling to find her voice. Her book signings are abysmally attended, her ratings are pathetic, and her publisher chopped her five book series down to three.

At one of her signings, a strange string of events occur. A long lost ex, Elliot, hides in the shelves of the bookstore before knocking over Lacy’s display, and a strange old woman loudly criticizes Lacy’s writing. “The men you write aren’t real. The love is too perfect.”

After this interaction, even stranger things begin to happen. Lacy starts to teleport INTO her stories, forced to act as the “heroine” and be wooed by the too-perfect-men she writes. Of course, she seeks comfort in Elliot, and ends up dragging him into her stories with him. Together, they have to figure out how to break this chronicle crawling curse.

This was a sweet story filled with cringy tropes that even Lacy, who wrote them, realizes are awful. While the book-traversing became a bit repetitive, I rather enjoyed the concept. I felt Lacy and Elliot’s relationship could have had a bit more depth, but ultimately I was satisfied with their ending. This was a fun, cute, and speedy read.

This was a very clever plot and I really enjoyed it. Elliott was a well written character with complex feelings. He was also hilarious. This poor guy really just wanted to see his ex that he was still in love with and got pulled into a curse💔 You could really tell how much he cared for Lacy in the way that he was doing so many things that would scare him. I couldn’t get over how he kept trying to tell Lacy he was still in love with her, but she kept brushing it off, thinking he was doing it for the plot. I feel like they were both very insecure, thinking they weren’t good enough for eachother or couldn’t possibly love one another in the same way. I was getting somewhat annoyed at the end with the miscommunication, but I pushed through and it played out well. It was also bittersweet seeing Lacy’s character realize that she forgot what actual love was by being placed into her fictional worlds. Overall this was a very entertaining read!

So many scenes had me laughing out loud!

“Wait a second. Do you know how to fly a helicopter?”

She looked at him, and he looked at her, his hands on the controls.

“AAAAHHHHHH!”

Review of advance copy received from Love Books Tours

Lacy & Elliott are likeable as the love interest characters in this sweet and cosy rom-com. As an author myself I particularly enjoyed Lacy’s journey from her poorly turned out book signing and all the stresses of wanting her book tour to do well to the learning about her own writing from experiencing her books worlds hands on through the quantum leaps. I enjoyed the details such as the high street running out and the menu only having one item on, which enables her to realise how far her world building went and how she could improve her books.
I was a fan of the TV show Quantum Leap when I was growing up so I loved this aspect of the book where Lacy and Elliott find themselves propelled into different book worlds through doorway portals, including run-ins with vampires, firemen and cowboys! I enjoyed the fun idea of a well meant curse from a disgruntled witchy reader who wanted to demonstrate to the author how to improve her romance books and her love life. All in all such a fun and sweet read for rom-com fans, it gently pokes fun at our favourite tropes and gives us a satisfying romantic and comical adventure to boot.

Lacy Travers is navigating a plateau in her writing and career. At a book signing for her novel, a fan criticizes her for ‘ruining love.’ At the signing, Lacy’s ex, Elliott, appears.

Together they unexpectedly are pulled into Lacy’s book, navigating the themes and plots of romance novels. All the ones we as romance readers enjoy as well. The book is a fun exploration of the genre along with the heartfelt moments of Lacy and Elliott’s reconnection.

As they explore each of the plots of the story, they grow closer again. Lacy realizes that the love she had for Elliott was what she always was searching for in her own relationships.

I enjoyed the magical realism of the book and through each romance book plot line, Lacy and Elliott uncover more about themselves and their feelings for each other. Books about books are among my favorite to read. They’re reflective and show us how art mirrors life and how life can be a source of inspiration for art.

Thank you to Mary Shotwell, City Owl Books, and Love Books Tours for the gifted copy and the opportunity to be part of the tour! I was provided a copy of this book and am leaving an honest review.

This was a fun and light read. Funnily enough if you liked Ashley Poston’s The Seven Year Slip and A Novel Love Story, then you will like this romance-novel-multi-verse jumping adventure. I appreciated that the heroine, Lacy, was not alone while in her “romance loop” and had an unexpected sidekick along for the ride, which added a more hilarity to the craziness of it all. I also liked the idea that Lacy was actively critiquing her characters and settings as she was living her protagonists’ storylines. However, I did feel that the big “aha moment” at the end did fall short for me emotionally. Despite all of Lacy’s critiquing of the cliché’s she had written into her stories, the big romantic moment at the end was so over-the-top and you guessed it… cliché (and a little unhinged?). I did cringe a bit. But maybe that was the point? Either way, the entire time I was reading this I thought that this would make a great tv series adaptation that could maybe dive into the different novels Lucy travels to more.

Went into this read with absolutely zero expectations. It was such a quirky spin on romance and honestly not my usual type of read at all.

But once I realized what was happening? Oh, I was completely pulled in. When I tell you I loved this book… even my poor husband had to hear me talk about it nonstop because my brain could not let it go.

The way Lacy would “leap” into different parts of the stories was so creatively done. It could have easily become confusing, but instead it was immersive, clever and incredibly well written. Every leap pulled me deeper into the chaos, the emotions and the mystery behind the curse itself.

And the banter between Elliot and Lacy? Absolutely loved it. Their chemistry felt natural, funny, frustrating and heartfelt all at once.

This story was quirky, emotional, funny and oddly healing in the best possible ways. And the curse? Epic. The unraveling of it and everything that came with breaking it became a story all on its own.

By the end, I genuinely did not want to leave these characters behind. This one surprised me in the best way possible.

A romance novel with a twist that's a cross between Freaky Friday and Quantum Leap 💫

Lacy is a romance author who has fallen out of love with love, and it's starting to show in her novels. At a book signing she runs into her ex, Elliott, and realises she might still have feelings for him. Things take an odd turn when a mysterious woman from the signing seems to put a curse on Lacy and she is repeatedly pulled into scenes from her own novels where she has to take the role of one of her heroines until she figures out how to get back to her real life, and what love really means.

This was a fun quick read that gently poked fun at some of the tropes and clichés used in romance novels and had a heartwarming message at its core about seeing what (or who) is already in front of you.

The genre hopping was an entertaining concept and I could see it working well as a film or TV series. I loved the nods to Quantum Leap too!

Thank you to Love Book Tours and City Owl Press for the review copy.

ARC REVIEW: 3.7

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.7/5)

The Romance Loop by Mary Shotwell is a light, fast-paced romance centered around Lacy and Elliot who keep finding themselves thrown back together in a repetitive, fate-driven loop that forces them together over and over again.

This was a fun, quick, and easy read that kept me entertained the whole way through. The banter between the characters was definitely one of the strongest parts of the book — witty, playful, and natural enough to make me genuinely smile while reading.

That said, I did wish there was a bit more character development. I liked the main characters, but I wanted more time getting to know them beyond the romance setup itself.

Overall though, if you’re looking for a light, bingeable romance with solid chemistry and enjoyable dialogue, this is a great pick for a quick read.

The Romance Loop by Mary Shotwell was not my original choice, but like Bob Harris said, there are no mistakes, only happy accidents and what a delight this one was!

Lacy is a romance author who finds her career is treading water and her book sales are not going in the right direction. A series of chance encounters (ex bf and spooky lady at the book signing) lead Lacy to go to a childs birthday party and the next thing she knows, she is in one of her books. The combination of warping into your own novels and through different timelines is so utterly original and blend that with the most wonderful second chance rom-com and you have a winner of a book!

I absolutely loved this novel and will happily read more from this author. Wonderful!

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and City Owl Press for this lovely ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

💬 "What if it's a gift, not a curse?"

'The Romance Loop' was a really fun, cheesy romance story where most of the romance takes place in books within a book. I often find the tropes in romance stories to be a little contrived, and find that the genre can quickly become stale. So this book, which actually poked fun at those tropes was a refreshing change.

I have to admit that all of the books Lacy had written sounded cheesy to the extreme, exactly the kind of romance I hate. Which is why they worked so well in the context of this book. I loved how it took Lacy ending up in her own stories to realise how she needed to change her writing.

This was a quick little read for me, and whilst it isn't going to make me believe in love, it has left me smiling.

I went into reading this book not really knowing too much about it and boy did I enjoy this book! I mean what a unique read! You have Lacy who is a romance writer and is struggling with her books.

At a signing she runs into ger ex Elliott and is shocked to see him. She also encounters a customer that calls her work drivel. When Elliott asks her to come to a birthday party at his brother's house, she's not sure if she'll go. But after some weird things happening, she decides to go.

When she gets to the house and steps in, she ends up in a loop and finds herself in one of her books. This loop happens several times and sometimes Elliott is there.

Will not spoil anything but the banter and everything between the two of them is so great. I found myself swooning in parts. You need to read this to fund out how Lacy gets out of these loops that keep happening!

The Romance Loop is a super fun second chance romcom where a romance author and her sci-fi loving ex get stuck in a time loop.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved this book! There’s tropes, there’s cringe, there’s cliches, there’s a curse. There’s two adorable people just trying to get back home, and figuring out what that actually means.

And references everywhere! You get a reference, and you get a reference! 🐴🧛‍♀️👽

It’s well-written and easy to read. I picked this up and fell into the story immediately.

If you’re looking for a light-hearted and funny romance with splashes of realism and a double shot of messy goofballs trying to work their way out of a mess of their own making, you’ll love this book.

4⭐️ I was given this ARC by Netgalley: all opinions are my own.

Lacey is a writer who published multiple romance novels. Recently they failed and, as she was told by a fan, are too unrealistic. After a nostalgic meeting with an ex, she's magically thrown into her own stories! After navigating the worlds she imagined, she's trying to see what she did wrong...

The Romance Loop is a cute romance showing us the importance of depth in world building or in love
Having a small glimpse of all those sub-genres is so fun! Elliott and Lacy got me smiling and kicking my feet ☺️ I would recommand to all romance lovers.

I came across a call for ARC reviewers for The Romance Loop on Instagram and I’m so pleased I was chosen. I had never heard of the book or author before but the blurb was intriguing and I’m a sucker for magical realism.
The pacing of the story was great, and the writing kept me engaged enough that I finished the book in just a couple sittings.
I liked the relationship between Lacy and Elliott but I didn’t totally understand the third act breakup. I appreciated that it wasn’t a straight-up miscommunication, but the avoidance on Lacy’s part seemed a little out of character.
Overall, this was a delightful read, and I’m looking forward to reading more by this author.

Thank you to the author, Mary Shotwell, for sending me this ARC.

Shotwell's The Romance Loop serves up subtextual commentary on the publishing industry and how it churns out romance after romance for the mass market, often with little regard for quality. She does this while delivering a cute romance with humorous and heartfelt moments. I expected to enjoy this book as a romance reader, but I didn't anticipate being so amused by Lacy and Elliott's banter. Elliott snaps under the pressure of being thrown into Lacy's book plots in the most hilarious ways. His snarky quips were cracking me up.

I love the concept of this book, and I quite enjoyed its execution.

This was such a unique fun romance book to read. Elliot and Lacy’s chemistry popped off the pages and you could really feel the yearning, especially from Elliot.

The plot in this book was so unique - Lacy gets thrown into her romance books and becomes the FMC. By doing this she learns about herself, her past relationship with Elliot, and what she wants moving forward.

I really enjoyed their dynamic. Elliot was such a green flag and he really only wanted for Lacy to be happy. I love how he was thrown into the “curse” as well.

If you’re looking for a fun unique room com - this is for you. It’s very low stakes - not alot of drama just enough to keep it engaging.

This was a really cute romance novel. Lacy is a romance novelist whose career is faltering. At a book signing, a woman tells Lacy her books are drivel, right after Lacy sees her ex, Elliott, lurking in the stacks of the bookstore. After the woman follows her, Lacy heads to Elliott's brother's home. Before she can cross the threshold, however, she is transported into one of her romance novels. This happens a few times, sometimes with Elliott, until Lacy can determine why she was cursed with this transportation, and how to make it stop.
Unique and cute. I enjoyed it and will read more from this author.
