Welcome to Solace Springs...

Dumped by her boyfriend and her job for being 'too safe', Sophie Bennett decides it's time to rewrite her story. A viral crowdfunding campaign gives her the chance to transform a rundown lakeside boathouse into the bookshop she's always dreamed of. But Solace Springs isn't quite ready for her big plans - especially Luke Rhodes, the brooding boatbuilder next door who seems determined to challenge her every move.

Luke has spent years building a quiet life by the lake, and the last thing he needs is a social media sensation disturbing his peace with her endless enthusiasm. But as spring's cherry blossoms bloom and fall, and Sophie and Luke clash over paint colours and renovation plans, they can't deny the sparks flying between them.

When Sophie's newfound fame threatens the town's calm and Luke's carefully guarded walls begin to crack, both must decide if they're willing to risk everything for a second chance at love.

The Cherry Blossom Boathouse is a sweet and spicy grumpy/sunshine romance, filled with small-town charm, quirky characters, and the magic of second chances.

I would like to thank Ballantine, Dell, and Net Galley for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review

This book was a struggle for me. I struggled with the grammar, envisioning solace springs, the dialogue, and so many other small things. Despite them being small things, it added up to a rather unenjoyable reading experience. The premise of the book started so strong, and then quickly fell through. I was often very confused about the construction of solace springs—how big is this lake? how many hidden spots can there be? It all felt disjointed and poorly thought through. The characters, mainly Luke Rhodes, had dialogue that felt so odd. Words and phrases being used by Americans that are not typical to the American dialect. Just one example—I cannot recall a time that I have ever heard an American refer to a trash can as a “bin” (when not discussing British terminology).

Aside from my struggles with the writing itself, I also found the plot to be severely underdeveloped. Over half of the book takes place in the span of two weeks, and then all of a sudden there is a five week time jump. And the resolution felt incredibly rushed—there was no actually conversation between characters to talk out the issues, just hugs and smiles and everything is fine!

Perhaps my biggest issue with this story—the romance. The characters got together before even hitting the 50% mark. There was no emotional payoff. They’d known each other for a week. It was also hard to root for them when I couldn’t care less about Luke Rhodes, our MMC. I don’t have any super strong feelings about Sophie Bennett, the FMC. She was fine, if underdeveloped. But Luke was just a jerk. He was rude to Sophie as well as the other citizens of Solace Springs, even in his own internal monologue. Part of me hoped that he and Sophie wouldn’t end up together simply because I thought she deserved better. There was also so much focus on Luke’s past, and his emotional trauma, but so little put on Sophie. Sophie had experienced just as bad of a breakup not to mention the death of a parent and it was hardly touched upon.

Truthfully, this book was not for me in any way. It may serve you well if you need a quick getaway to a fictional lakeside town, but I cannot say that I recommend it.

This book started so promising and honestly sounded like such a fun, cozy read with a mix of spice.

After a series of disasters in her life and with a bit of late-night wine confidence, Sophie starts a crowdfunding campaign to buy a boathouse and turn it into a bookshop. To her surprise, it goes viral, she raises the money and just like that she moves from London to a small town in Washington.

Her arrival? Iconic. She literally ends up in the water minutes before reaching her new home… and of course, her neighbor is the one who rescues her.

Enter Luke. Grumpy, helpful, good looking, aaaand very much not interested in newcomers… until he is... :))

The setup was great. The small-town vibes, the renovation project, the grumpy/sunshine dynamic; it all worked really well at the beginning.

But…

I felt like the romance moved way too fast. It leaned into insta-love and the timeline felt a bit messy. A big part of the relationship develops over what feels like just 2-3 weeks, and then suddenly we’re jumping ahead 5 weeks or so. It made everything feel a bit unbalanced.

I also struggled with Sophie keeping the crowdfunding a secret. The reason behind it didn’t feel strong enough to justify the secrecy, and it ended up being more frustrating than anything. (call it miscommunication trope or whatever)

And the conflict? It gets resolved a bit too quickly, without enough real/deep conversation. It felt a bit superficial for something that’s supposed to be a long-term relationship.

That said, the book does touch on deeper themes like grief, guilt and personal growth, which I appreciated.

Overall, not a bad read at all, and it had a lot of potential, but I didn't feel that the execution fully delivered.

⭐ 3.5 stars

Received and appreciate this ARC from NetGalley.

For the lovers of Virgin River, meet Solace Springs. Loved this feel good, take me away story that was the perfect book to dig my nose into between heavier reads.

Hoping it the start of a series, can’t wait for the story to become more and the town to grow.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

This started off really cute and had a lot of promise, but unfortunately it became dull as the story went on. I struggled to believe this insta-love relationship, which made it hard for me to fully connect with the characters. The pacing also felt uneven and dragged at times, making the story difficult to stay invested in. Overall, it just wasn’t the right book for me, though I can see why others might enjoy the cozy atmosphere and romance.

There was something so instantly comforting and charming about The Cherry Blossom Boathouse by Laura Bloom. From the moment Sophie traded her chaotic London life for a rundown boathouse in Solace Springs, I was completely swept away by the cozy small town atmosphere and whimsical setup. A bookstore on a boathouse? Honestly, that alone sold me. It felt unique, dreamy, and perfectly tailored for readers who love stories that feel warm and escapist. The cherry blossom filled setting added such a soft, magical quality to the novel, and the entire town had that comforting “everyone knows everyone” energy that makes small town romances so addictive.

I also really loved how clearly this book lays the foundation for a larger series. Solace Springs feels alive with quirky residents, nosy but well meaning neighbors, town traditions, and side characters who already seem primed for future stories. You can tell there’s so much potential waiting to unfold in later books, which made the world feel even richer and more inviting. The community dynamic was one of my favorite parts because it gave the story such a cozy, lived in feeling.

At its core, this is an easy breezy, lighthearted escape with warmth, humor, charm, and just enough romance to keep things sweet. Sophie and Luke had that classic sunshine/grump dynamic that worked really well against the peaceful lakeside backdrop, and I loved watching Luke slowly soften as Sophie settled into town. If you’re looking for a quick, cozy romance filled with whimsy, community, and bookstore charm, this is such a lovely start to a new series. I’m already excited to return to Solace Springs for the next book.

3.5 rounded to 4 ⭐️!

A big thank you to NetGalley, Ballantine, and Dell for an ARC of The Cherry Blossom Boathouse!

The cover on this one initially drew me in! I stayed for the Stars Hollow vibes, grumpy/sunshine romance, and found family in the town! I always love a small town romance with melding neighbors!

Luke also 100% reminded me of Luke from Gilmore Girls, which I was very much here for!

I enjoyed the self discovery journey that both of our main characters were on and the growth we got to see from them both. I really appreciated that aspect of the book.

I do feel like the relationship between Sophie and Luke developed pretty quickly. I just wanted a little more angst and “get to know you,” especially with both of them coming from a place of being deeply hurt in prior relationships.

Overall, this was a fun read for spring and I’ll definitely read book two in the series (which I also have an ARC for!)

While this book was a cute, easy read, it did not make a lot of sense overall. Solace Springs felt underdeveloped as a setting and the writing implied that the lake was really big, despite never expressing this clearly. The characters were quite flat and I did not for one moment believe in the romance (insta-love) between Luke and Sophie.

The easy writing style and the fact that the story did not drag on are truly the two main reasons as to why I will not rate the book any lower. I will probably pick up the next book though, as I am curious to see how the author will improve.

This was a cozy and quaint romance. I enjoyed it, and it was a quick read. I wish it took a little bit longer to get into it though. The timeline was so fast that it felt rushed to me. Additionally, some of the most interesting parts come so close to the end and I wanted a bit more of that story sooner.

However, the setting is picturesque and I love a good book about someone who loves books. :)

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this book.

I’m conflicted by how I feel on this book 😫 On one hand, this is such a cute, palette cleanser with a plot that is easy to follow and doesn’t require too much brain power 💞 However, on this occasion, I struggled to maintain complete interest in the book, although Solace Springs sounds like the most picturesque town 🌸🚤

I loved the concept of buying a boathouse and building a bookstore in a cute small town in the USA - we give thanks to Gilmore girls/Hart of Dixie/Virgin River! This is a genuine dream I could chase. However, the pacing just felt completely off for me. Within one week, the main characters were kissing and saying how much they fancied each other. Then all of a sudden, we’re 5 weeks into the story without any further explanation. I needed more relationship development during this time.

Upon meeting, our MMC, Luke, was instantly grumpy and mumbling then suddenly being overly helpful to our FMC, Sophie, within such a short space of time (within 1 day) making it feel less authentic. I didn’t emotionally invest in their relationship as much I would have hoped for. Some points in the story if further developed, would have been amazing but too many side plots left me so confused and some side characters had me questioning their relevance to the story.

However, the book does show our FMC trying to be strong and independent, and be assertive with her new business that she’s trying to develop.

Overall:
🌟🌟🌟
Tropes: Small Town romance, GRUMPY vs sunshine, close proximity, Dual POV, Close knit community, Next Door neighbours.
Spice scale: 🌶️🌶️

These review opinions are completely my own.

Synopsis
After being dumped and fired in the same week, Sophie Bennett decides she’s done living a safe, predictable life. On a wine-fueled impulse, the Londoner launches a crowdfunding campaign titled Help a Boring Girl Buy a Bookshop. When the internet unexpectedly falls in love with her story, Sophie finds herself trading the chaos of the city for a fresh start across the ocean in Solace Springs, Washington.

Her dream? Restoring a run-down boathouse bookstore on the edge of a quiet lake.

Luke has spent years protecting the peaceful life he’s built in the small town he calls home. The last thing he wants is a social media sensation turning Solace Springs upside down, especially one with boundless enthusiasm and a camera pointed at everything she does.

But when the town ropes Luke into helping Sophie renovate her bookshop, the two quickly discover that their differences might not be such a bad thing. As laughter, late nights, and unexpected moments draw them closer, the walls Luke has carefully built around his heart begin to crumble.

When Sophie’s sudden online fame threatens the quiet life Luke loves, they’ll have to decide whether the risk of loving each other is worth the chance at something neither of them saw coming.

My Thoughts
When this first popped up on my NetGalley shelf, I honestly had no idea what to think. I’ll admit it, I absolutely judge books by their covers and titles sometimes, and at first glance I wasn’t sure this one was going to be my thing. But wow… I was so wrong. This book completely surprised me in the best way possible, and I ended up loving it.

The grumpy handyman (and captain!) falling for the sunshiney, future bookstore owner is such a fun trope, and this story delivered that dynamic in a really sweet way. Watching Luke slowly fall for Sophie was adorable, and their chemistry made it easy to root for them from the start. I do wish Luke had stayed a little more grumpy for a bit longer, though he softened for Sophie pretty quickly, and personally I always love when the grumpy character holds out just a little longer before completely melting.

One thing I really enjoyed was the mystery element woven into the story. The break-ins and vandalism added an extra layer of intrigue that kept me curious the whole time. And that plot twist? I genuinely did not see it coming at all. It caught me completely off guard, but in a way that made the story even more fun to read.

If I had one small critique, it would be that some of the insecurities in Luke and Sophie’s relationship felt a bit repetitive. There were a few moments where they jumped straight to the worst possible conclusions instead of just talking things out. Considering Sophie is very much the sunshine character of the story, I expected a little more optimism from her in those moments. Still, their relationship was sweet overall, and it was easy to stay invested in them.

I also absolutely adored the small-town setting of Solace Springs. It had that cozy, welcoming vibe that makes you want to move there immediately. The side characters really brought the town to life too, Mabel and Grace especially stood out to me. They added so much warmth and personality to the story.

And now I’m already looking forward to the next book, because I cannot wait to see Grace get her own love story. If it’s anything like this one, I’m definitely in.

Thank you so much to Penguin Random House for the eARC of this book via Netgalley.

Okay, buckle up....because I have a *lot* of thoughts on this one...

Most of us, after being broken up with (and/or fired), do something drastic (like get bangs or dye our hair) to our appearance, but Sophie has decided she wants to buy a house boat in Washington State, leaving everything behind in London, to start over, sounds cute right? (But also, there are so many beautiful locations where the FMC could've done the exact same thing, with the same results, in the UK, not sure why she'd choose a tiny town in the US.)

- I, having lived in WA state, feel like this book could've actually been located ANYWHERE. The setting in Washington didn't feel believable to me at all, other than the few mentions of Seattle being nearby. The characters used a ton of language that isn't used in that part of the country (and sometimes not even colloquially "American"). With the size of the lake mentioned, I feel like maybe set in the Great Lakes would've been more appropriate?

- The FMC is moving to another country after having lost her mom the year prior, getting fired from her job, and broken up with all in one fell swoop. Her trauma is never discussed or processed, or even seemed to be cared about at all by the MMC. The MMC was in a relationship with a "city girl" (don't even get me started on how many times this phrase was used.) who left him after realizing the too small town she moved to, was in fact too small. His emotional trauma was constantly brought up to where everyone was always comparing the FMC to the ex, and it just became infuriating to me.

- After their first intimacy scene, the MCs never discuss contraception (MMC just goes on without asking if it's okay), and neither do they discuss if the other is clean. I just think that in today's age of health that this should keep being a priority in romance books (as it so often is!).

- At one point, the MMC makes a gigantic design choice for the FMC's renovation (HER HOUSE/BUSINESS!!!) without her consent, after having her state plainly that she did NOT want to have a window there. This felt like a gross overstepping on his part and was glossed over way too easily. Sir, the houseboat belongs to her, and the business is hers....it does not matter at all that your family built the houseboats generations ago.

- This book steps heavily into small-town resident caricatures where the townspeople are the most adverse to any change at all (while still attempting to appear welcoming), and it rubbed me the wrong way.

- Lastly, I do not think the relationship between the MCs believable, nor do I believe it to actually continue off-page. I think both of the MCs need to focus on their own happiness and contentment (maybe go to therapy tbh) before even considering a relationship.

I usually don't feel so strongly about a romance book, but I felt like giving up on this one so many times.

A woman gets fired, gets dumped, has a little wine-fueled spiral, accidentally goes viral with a crowdfunding campaign, and somehow ends up moving from London to a small town in Washington to buy and restore a rundown boathouse into a bookshop? That is exactly the kind of cozy, slightly chaotic romance premise that usually pulls me in.

And at first, it did.

Sophie’s arrival in Solace Springs was fun, especially with her literally ending up in the water before she even reaches her new home. Then Luke, her grumpy neighbor, ends up rescuing her, and you immediately get that grumpy/sunshine setup. He wants peace, quiet, and absolutely nothing to do with newcomers. She is optimistic, determined, and ready to turn this boathouse into something beautiful. On paper, I was like yes, I’m seated.

The small-town setting was probably my favorite part. I loved the cozy lake vibes, the renovation project, the townspeople getting involved, and the idea of this boathouse becoming a bookshop. It had all the ingredients for a sweet, comforting romance.

But the romance itself moved way too fast for me.

I don’t mind a quick connection when it feels emotionally earned, but here it leaned a little too close to insta-love. Sophie and Luke go from barely knowing each other to being deeply involved so quickly that I didn’t feel like I got enough time to actually root for them. I wanted more tension, more slow build, more moments where they really got to know each other before everything became so serious.

I also struggled with Sophie keeping the crowdfunding situation a secret. I understood what the book was trying to do with it, but the reason behind the secrecy didn’t feel strong enough to carry that much conflict. It started to feel more frustrating than emotional, and the resolution came a little too quickly for me. I wanted a deeper conversation between them, especially since the relationship was supposed to feel like something lasting.

Luke was another mixed bag. I usually love a grumpy hero, but I wanted more from him emotionally. There were moments where he was sweet and helpful, but other times he felt more harsh than charming, and I didn’t always understand why Sophie was falling so hard so fast. I think if the book had given the romance more breathing room, I would have connected with him more.

That said, this wasn’t a bad read. It had charm, cozy small-town energy, cherry blossom vibes, a bookshop dream, and a few deeper themes around grief, starting over, and learning to trust again. I just think the pacing and relationship development held it back for me.

Overall, I’d say this is a light, cozy romance with a really cute premise and a setting that feels warm and sweet. It didn’t fully work for me the way I hoped it would, but I can definitely see readers who enjoy fast-moving small-town romances having a good time with it.

trigger warnings and other info at the end of the review

First of all, A HUGE THANK YOU TO NETGALLEY AND THE PUBLISHER for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!!!

I'm going to be super honest when I say that, for me, this was almost a 5 start book. I love love LOVED the characters, story, vibes, romance, relationships, and everything else about this story. It's super clear how much love, care, and effort went in to making this book come together and I have so much respect for anyone who can write and publish a book.

That being said, I have one single critique. There were a few instances where I felt confused because it felt like the story was going to fast that it missed key details of description. What I mean by that is sometimes I feel like too much of the story was assumed and not given to the reader.

FOR EXAMPLE (and this is a very hypothetical situation): We have our two main characters talking outside near the lake. All of a sudden there's a line of dialogue from someone else.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE (again, totally hypothetical): The two main characters are kissing outside of a restaurant and then there's a line that says one of them pushed the other into the side of the house.

In both examples, it's clear that there was some information not quite given to the readers. In the first one, it would've been more clear that a third character was there if the author had described the setting more to include other people or made a point to mention the third character walking up about to join the conversation. In the second example, it would've been good if the author had explained the proximity of the restaurant to the house, included some form of time skip or an indication that the characters had walked to the house, or made clear the fact that they were kissing while moving towards the house.

Neither of these examples happened specifically in the book, but there were a few similar instances where I became confused and tried to figure out if I had somehow skipped a page or paragraph (I didn't).

It's hard, because I do love the pace of the book! But every once in a while something happened where I was really confused and I feel like every time that happened I was pulled out of the book.

Everything else about this book I absolutely loved!! If you like Stardew Valley, Gilmore Girls, the Dream Harbor series by Laurie Gilmore, or Animal Crossing, I highly highly recommend this book!!!

The romance, plot, and vibes were a 10/10 for me :))

If Star’s Hollow had a West-Coast Lakeside Twin, it would absolutely be Solace Springs! Home of the Cherry Blossom Boathouse, this hidden gem is full to the brim with small town charm, quirky characters, (who also hold over the top town hall meetings), and its own grumpy sunshine couple, Luke and Sophie 😍

📖 The Cherry Blossom Boathouse

📋 3.5 ⭐️ | 2 🌶️

I have so many mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, the book is cute, full of beautiful spring atmosphere, very easy to follow and enjoyably predictable. The premise is adorable and I was quickly invested Sophie’s mission to convert the boathouse into a “Pinterest worthy” bookstore (what book girly hasn’t fantasized about doing the same). I absolutely love seeing a strong independent FMC in a contemporary romance. The small town charm is heartwarming and the quirky town folk really do feel straight out of an episode of Gilmore Girls (town hall meeting included). Finally, I have to give it to the author, she does a beautiful job of illustrating grief and the work it take to heal.

On the hand, I just wasn’t able to become emotionally invested in the relationship between the two characters. In all honesty, I am not a huge fan of insta-lust and from the moment these two meet, it’s clear that their connection stems from their physical attraction to one another. To have such a fast turn around from outright resentment to happily collaborating on the boathouse in less than 24 hours just wasn’t something I could 100% swallow as the reader. I felt pacing continued to be rushed and so when the relationship finally did become “a thing”, there just wasn’t enough tension built between the two to really make it feel satisfying and authentic. I know the third act break up is romance writing staple for a reason but again, it felt rushed and like everything resolved far too quickly to create an impactful happily ever after.

Overall, this was fun, adorable easy to follow romance that was the perfect spring read. Fans of small town charm ala Gilmore Girls or Hart of Dixie will absolutely fall in love with the Solace Springs and its newest resident. Lovers of seasonal romances such as those by Harper Graham or Laurie Gilmore should absolutely check this one out!

Expect…

The Cherry Blossom Boathouse is a cozy small-town romance featuring a British woman, Sophie, who buys a boathouse after her life falls apart, and her grumpy neighbor, Luke. The story is a dual point of view romance set around a small lake town called Solace Springs.

I love a small town romance. And on that front, this story delivered. The setting was full of delightful characters and quirky townspeople and busybodies and all of the things you want in a small town. The book has a town hall scene that feels exactly like an episode of Gilmore Girls and a community that comes around Sophie and Luke both separately and together. The lake also acts as its own character in the story, which is interesting.

There were a few things that really worked for me: the grumpy/sunshine dynamic, the rehabilitation of an old boat, the creation of the bookstore. I don’t know that any of them felt particularly novel, but they were a fun time nonetheless.

This book used a lot of modern references, and they were featured heavily: discussions of TikTok, Instagram, hockey romances, Romantasy, influencers, and Kickstarter, some of which which feature heavily in the third act conflict for our characters. It’s appropriate for a contemporary romance, but it always pulls me out just a little bit—I read to escape from social media, and having so many references take me out of the world a little. However, that’s my own personal pet peeve, and I know is not everyone’s feeling.

The romance for this story felt like it was paced a little too quickly, building the physical intimacy before thoroughly building the couple. I also didn’t like the third act conflict, which feels like it was driven first by the character’s absolutely preventable actions rather than their inner traumas. The traumas absolutely have a role, but the primary focus of the conflict felt unnecessary.

The romance in this story was very explicit, with explicit scenes starting at around 30% into the book and continuing throughout. The scenes are multiple pages to chapters in length. Explicit scenes are seen from both characters’ perspectives.

Altogether, this was a fun contemporary romance. The small town setting really worked for me and reminded me of some of my other favorite small-town romances, and I think I’ll definitely keep reading Bloom’s books for the cute setting and quirky characters.

It was insta-lust, but it didn't turn me off as much as some books with it. That being said, I don't really feel for the characters' relationship. They just met, ran into each other a few times, and got together in under a week. There was no build up, no getting to know each other before making out. I'm not even sure they knew each other's last names. That'd be fine for a hookup, but for them to know they want to be in a relationship with each other? Eh. I guess lake time is vastly accelerated.

I don't understand why Sophie lied about the crowdfunding. She could have said that people pooled together money so she could buy and build her dream bookshop, but that she makes all the decisions regarding it. Omitting is lying by omission. But she did outright lie. Don't get it wrong.

Luke didn't disapprove "of how she’d financed her business and had decided her online community wasn’t authentic enough". Sophie lied. And he's been burned by Claire, who was not that different from Sophie. The only difference is that Sophie was there for herself as a result of internet backers whereas Claire was there on behalf of her family's company.

And how does a belt buckle get left behind? Why shatter a window if the door was left unlocked?

As much as I love a strong female character, I disliked Sophie. The truth would've been so easy to mention when Luke asked. Or she could've mentioned it earlier, saying that she shared her vision online with her internet backers and they can't wait to see it. Then she went on a tirade after the scene in the cafe, saying a lot of unnecessarily hurtful things (that she doesn't even know if they're true, like Claire having good ideas and Luke being too stuck in his ways and that's why she left).

Luke's post on social media offering a trip to the grand opening of the bookstore for five people (who backed Sophie's endeavor) was sweet. I don't know how he got the funds to offer five trips for people, but that's not the point of grand romantic gestures.

All in all, if you're looking for a simple fluffy romance, feel free to give this a read. It just wasn't for me.

I wrote my thoughts in my notes app as I was reading and here they are:

Cherry Blossom Boathouse Review:

⁃ they’ve known each other for a WEEK
⁃ They both clearly are not over their ex’s and can’t not bring them up constantly
⁃ He really went from “this stupid city girl messing up my lake town” to “I’m obsessed with her” in a matter of days
⁃ The author loves the metaphor “like tide to the shore” along with many other similar nautical lake themed metaphors and puns
⁃ Everything this man says is so cringey
⁃ He literally wants to drop everything for her, even fishing trip traditions with his friends, after, again, they met A WEEK AGO
⁃ If I had a dollar for everytime the MMC says “city girl”…..
⁃ He asked if she missed home and she said “no because he felt like home”. Again….. ONE. WEEK.
⁃ I’m really curious if the author has ever spent time on a lake because she states “salt air” and the weathering of building from the salty lake air…. Sis… lakes are not salty… (update: I read her bio and she lives on a lake???? I’m so confused)
⁃ Is there something taboo or wrong about crowd sourcing funds? Like I do not understand why she hides and lies about to it Luke?
⁃ 78% in and she’s finally being her own person thank god. She needs to stay single.

After finishing this book here are my final thoughts:
This book is definitely for someone, just not for me. I do appreciate the added “mystery” plot, but it kind of felt forced in the story to give it something different and interesting. I really did not think these two should’ve ended up together. They barely knew one another and both are absolutely not over their past traumas. They have a lot they should’ve worked on independently before jumping into bed together. Like real, they were basically living together after 5 weeks…

This series and characters remind me a lot of the pumpkin spice cafe series, so if you enjoyed that I think you would enjoy this. I think Laura has set up a great setting to be able to have multiple stories and books (I def see her writing one about the lighthouse keeper), but I personally will not continue as it wasn’t me cuppa tea (see what I did there??)

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I had to look up what a boathouse was. I will admit I couldn't picture it in my head, so I had no choice. I'm one of those people who have a running movie in my head as I read. Which is why I needed to know. I could have waited for the author to describe it, but I was impatient.

Now that I shared that let me tell you how much I want to visit this bookstore. It sounds so charming. The whole town sounds cute. I love me some small-town romance.

The Cherry Blossom Boathouse starts the Solace Springs series, and I am so glad that I have a new series to fall in love with. I can't wait to read The Sugar Maple Inn the next in the series. That's how fun this story was.

Luke is the perfect grump hero. He comes off as a jerk but really, he's a marshmallow inside. Sometimes he lives a bit too much in the past, but I can understand why. His luck with women isn't the greatest. He has both mother issues and doesn't trust the women he falls for. All is understandable, kind of. We all make bad choices at times and have trouble seeing them for what they are.

Now as for Sophie, I totally loved her. She is funny, sweet and is a woman after my own heart with her list making. If I was going to start a new business, I'd want Sophie to be on my side. She'd have it all set up in no time.

Even though these two had a bit of a rough start they soon see the good in each other and come together when it's important. The author gave us so many characters to enjoy and want to know more about that I can't wait for more.

The Cherry Blossom Boathouse by Laura Bloom
A Small-Town Romance A Cozy Bookshop Romance (Solace Springs)

Book 1 of 2: Solace Springs
A bookshop, a boathouse, and a budding new romance . . .

When Sophie Bennett gets fired from her high-profile marketing job and dumped by her boyfriend for being “too boring,” she decides to take a risk—fueled by wine—and launches a crowdfunding campaign called “Help a Boring Girl Buy a Bookshop.” To her shock, what started as a joke goes viral, raising enough money for her to leave London and buy a rundown boathouse in the sleepy small town of Solace Springs, Washington, marking the start of her new chapter.

Local boatbuilder and professional grump Luke Rhodes has had it with outsiders coming to Solace Springs and disturbing his carefully cultivated quiet life. So when Sophie, his annoyingly attractive next-door neighbor, moves in with her endless optimism, relentless determination, and distracting curves, he wants nothing to do with her renovation project. Too bad fate—and the town residents—have other plans. As Luke gets roped into working with Sophie, he starts to find that cherry blossoms aren’t the only thing budding in town.

In the midst of clashes over paint samples and arguments over structural integrity, things start to heat up between the town local and the new resident. But just as Luke’s carefully constructed walls begin to crack, Sophie’s sudden viral fame threatens the tranquility of Solace Springs. They’ll have to decide if their unexpected connection will wilt away or bloom into something more.

Okay! This was a cutesy little romcom, in the most wonderful little town full of cherry blossoms and by the lake, and if I could move there and open a bookshop myself I would in a heartbeat!

Sophie our FMC was a gem, she had gone through heartbreak and decided she wanted to open a bookshop, and she did just that. Is it slightly insane she bought a bookshop from a crowd funder when she was drunk? Yeah. But she pulled through and she didn’t let anyone change her mind on how she wanted her dream to come true.

Luke on the other hand. Hmmmmm. I’m not a fan I won’t lie. He was hard to support as an MMC. He was grumpy to her for no reason at the start of the book, and was throwing stereotypes onto Sophie left right and centre and was then shocked when she wasn’t a clueless city girl like he had thought. He also absolutely 100% was not ready for a relationship. He had too much baggage what with this ex of his (who was mentioned a grand total of FIFTY TWO TIMES in the book), and his absolute unneeded hatred for social media (and in turn Sophie’s use of social media to promote the boathouse) that he just then entirely flipped his views on when he bothered to actually see what she was doing. I genuinely would have had a pleasant time reading the book without him. He had some nicer moments in the middle of the book but it was too late for me by then.

Alllssoooo it was insta love, and I didn’t realise that until I started and in chapter two Luke was claiming Sophie was breaking down his walls that he had spent years building after one conversation. They were falling for each other after knowing each other one week. They were together before 40% through the book. This totally might be some people’s jam but alas it is not mine.

But if you want a cutesy town with a bookshop reno, a relatively lovely cast of characters, and a quick cozy evening read, this one is for you.

Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC, all views are my own.

Sophie Bennett was dumped by her boyfriend and lost her job all in the same week. Scrolling through Instagram, she sees a weathered boathouse surrounded by cherry blossom trees located in Solace Springs, Washington. All she can think about is how nice it would look converted into a bookstore. Knowing she doesn’t have enough money to purchase it, she embarks on a crowdfunding endeavor and by the next day, she has enough people contributing to her that she can buy the boathouse.

When she arrives in town, she is rather dismayed to find the boathouse is quite rundown and not at all as it was advertised. Her grumpy neighbor, Luke Rhodes, is not pleased to find a person has purchased a boathouse that had once belonged to his family. He fears she will bring radical ideas to change the true nature of the boathouse. He has lived his whole life on the lake as has his ancestors. In season, he runs kayak tours. As they begin to know one another and Sophie shares her carefully thought-out ideas with Luke, he realizes she does have some solid plans. He offers to help her and in short order they become friends.

As Luke and Sophie get to know one another more, he is skeptical of her as his previous girlfriend wanted to change things in this town and he did not like that. They soon give into an attraction to one another and together they work to get the bookshop finished for the targeted opening. But when Luke learns that she had crowdfunding help to purchase the property, he becomes livid and they part. Is there any way they can get past this and become a couple again?

OK. Luke, at times needed a swift kick. He had become set in his ways and not realizing that the world can open up and grow with social media. This book was well written with terrific characters and I enjoyed how the bookshop slowly came together. Sophie is a very strong character and I admired her. Enjoy!
