Rae Roberts is a queer author who writes emotional, heartfelt, and unapologetically MM romance. With a background in performing arts and a current career as a counsellor, Rae brings a deep understanding of people—their strengths, fears and fragile hopes—to every story she writes.

Her characters are raw and real, often navigating identity, grief and trauma on their journey to connection and unconditional love. Rae's stories explore the messy, beautiful complexity of queer love. The kind that lingers, transforms, and ultimately heals. She believes in a happily ever after, but only after putting her characters (and readers), through the emotional wringer.

When she's not writing or working with clients, Rae is probably dreaming up her next emotionally devastating plot, sipping a hot chocolate, or curled up on the couch binge-watching a drama series.

Pages of My Heart is her debut novel. Adrift Without You will be released in October, 2025. Rae resides in Melbourne, Australia.

"I spent much of my life concealing my queerness. But through the creative process of writing, and writing queer love stories, I found self-acceptance and the courage to live authentically. I have so many more stories to share, and I can't wait to share them with you!"

This book follows the love story of Huxley, an openly gay math teacher, and Oliver, a questioning gym teacher and footy coach. Oliver looks like an intimidatingly big, masculine dude, but he's really just a softie who wants to stick up for what's right and protect his people. Huxley is a sweet, lovable nerd who keeps running up against society's close minded views.

I really loved how this book highlights the importance of seeing people like yourself existing openly in everyday life. Representation matters so much, and queer students being able to see their teachers proud of who they are helps create a safe space for them to be themselves, too.

Also, Huxley writing fanfic? Perfection. I need a bonus scene with an actual excerpt from his work 😂 And the dogs having their own little love story on the side was adorable.

My one criticism is that I wish Huxley's autism was more well integrated into the storyline. It felt like it was mentioned but not fully explored or woven into the narrative as deeply as it could have been.

Can't wait to read Koa's story next and see who else gets a book in this series. Zac? Jake and Troy? We'll see!

ARC Review of Meet Me After Class by Rae Roberts

4.5 ⭐️ 3🌶

This book was such a cute read, overall very sweet and wholesome (at least their relationship was), with just a touch of that religious-boomer-homophobic workplace drama. But Oliver and Huxley were just perfect together 😫

Oliver is the 'straight' PE teacher at a private Christian school, but his love life hasn't really come to fruition with any of the women in his life. Meeting Huxley, the newest teacher at the school he feels an instant —well something he's never really felt for anyone before 😏🤭🤔

Huxley is fresh out of grad school, learning to come into his own after being bullied back in high school for being gay. Meeting Oliver, he's instantly charmed by his kindness (and hotness 😏) but he can't like a straight guy again, can he?

The way these two come together and navigate their feelings together is just adorable, mutual social media stalking, being unsure of one another's feelings —fun little excuses like doggy dates to hang out more 🤭 Absolutely precious.

But don't worry, if you need drama there's still plenty of that too —homophobic family and snot nosed teenagers who weren't raised right causing trouble at school. Nothing too out of hand but it made my heart ache for these two ❤️‍🩹

Overall a great lighter read, well paced, and it had a nice build up to the spicy stuff 😏

This story is like a warm hug! Sooo incredibly beautiful. And it hits you right in the heart 🥰!
When Oliver first sees the new teacher at his school, Huxley, he’s pretty much smitten right away. He’s always thought of himself as straight, but he’s handling the fact that he’s now fallen in love with a man pretty well. And I have to say, anyone would consider themselves lucky to have an Oliver in their life—you rarely come across such a lovable guy! Total „green flag“ alert!
Huxley himself hasn’t had the best experiences regarding his sexual orientation in the past, but he’s still brave and determined in his goal to be a good role model for the students—someone who stands by his queerness and is content with his life.
The fact that they both teach at a Christian school doesn’t exactly make things easy for them… but you’ll see how they overcome these challenges together when you read the book. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I really, really love it! ❤️
P.S. The Spice is also really well written 🌶️😉🔥!

I really enjoyed Huxley and Oliver's story. Their story was sweet and swoony, while the discrimination Huxley faced made me really mad. I loved how smitten Oliver was from the get go! He was so sweet and a big teddy bear! I also really enjoyed how bashful and eager he was at times. I understood why Huxley was apprehensive and after what he went through it was no surprise that he acted that way.
I loved how their dogs also instantly bonded and were inseparable.
I loved how sweet and romantic the story was. Oliver was so gentle and caring and I loved the sass Huxley displayed when he felt good and safe. This was a feel good story and I really enjoyed the time I got to spend getting to know Huxley and Oliver.

If you'd like to read about two teacher and dog dads finding their happily ever after, then this is the book for you.

This book was absolutely amazing. The representation was beautiful, and the care with which it was handled was evident on every page. Not to mention the communication between the main characters, outstanding. And Amber's chapter? I was full-on crying. I already cannot wait for Koa's story.

I always love books that explore a character's journey of self-discovery, especially when they're realizing they may not be who they've always thought they were. It's such a deeply personal experience, and I think it's fascinating to see how a character processes that realization, reconciles it with their current life, and figures out what it means for their future. Learning something new about yourself is one thing, but discovering something this significant can completely shift your perspective.

Oliver's journey was handled so beautifully. The fear and anxiety that come with self-discovery were present, but so were the excitement, hope, and growing feelings he had for Huxley. It felt authentic and heartfelt, and watching him navigate those emotions made his story incredibly impactful.

One of my favorite aspects of this book was the foundation Huxley and Oliver built before their romance truly began. They were friends and coworkers first, which made their connection feel so genuine. Their relationship starts during an incredibly difficult time, as they face discrimination and harassment from multiple directions, and watching them support each other through those challenges was powerful. At the same time, Huxley was dealing with his own past trauma and learning what it meant to trust someone again. The way those layers were woven together was beautifully done.

And I have to give an honorable mention to Amber.

From the very beginning, she was the kind of character who completely melted your heart. But the chapter centered around her embracing who she is and highlighting the importance of positive role models was incredibly moving. It carried such a profound message, and it was written with so much care and heart. It's the kind of representation that isn't talked about nearly enough, and I think it will resonate with so many readers.

Honestly, we also need to talk about the friend group because they were phenomenal. The support these characters showed one another felt so real. It genuinely felt like sitting in a room with your closest friends—talking through difficult situations, celebrating victories, sharing fears, and gushing about your crush. Watching Maddy, Laura, and Koa show up for the people they loved added so much warmth and authenticity to the story. Their friendships were just as meaningful as the romance itself.

I could honestly talk about this book all day, but at the end of it all, what stands out most is how thoughtfully written it was. It tackled important topics with care while wrapping everything in a story filled with romance, friendship, growth, and hope. If you're part of the queer community, questioning, discovering yourself, or simply looking for a heartfelt and meaningful romance, I truly think this is a book worth reading.

It was beautiful.

I couldn’t put the book down - from their first meeting, to their first kiss, to their first night together and all their other first explorations I was hooked…

And seriously - how can a first kiss be this hot, perfect and just zing through your whole body like a thunderstorm?
Oh boy! The butterflies, the heat and arrousal - a kiss that makes you forget everything around you except his strong hands and perfect abs - yap right there with you Huxley!
(I would have left the dog on purpose 😉🤣)

But I am getting ahead of myself…let‘s cool down for a second and let me tell you how the bi- awakening is sweet, funny and no drama at all.

Ahh I love a good bi- awakening… it is truly rewarding to see someone questioning their whole orientation up until a certain age (early 20ies here) so effortlessly… it’s the best thing!

All the good stuff apparently was to good to be true - for a short amount of time- they had to fight homophobia in private and in the workplace. Why does this world need all the still lurking homophobia in top of it all. We could so do without it.

Thankfully it got them even closer together! They fall quick and hard in love and I like a cheesy ending on top of it! Perfect!

ARC REVIEW

This book had me swooning the entire time. 💕

There were green flags everywhere as green as the cover and Huxley’s eyes. 💚💚💚

The jock x nerd dynamic in a more mature setting completely sold me, and when you add in all the texting, it was over for me. I’m such a sucker for that, and it was done so well here.

Huxley and Oliver were incredibly soft together. I really appreciated the patience and communication between them, and the fact that they actually talked things through like emotionally healthy adults made their relationship feel so genuine and easy to root for.

And then, as if that wasn’t enough, there’s a little puppy romance on the side🐶 . That honestly sealed the deal for me because I loved that added touch so much.

At this point, this book could do no wrong for me.

I'm almost certain I read this first chapter in a fanfic, I think it was Heartstopper.
Second dnf by the same author. Amateur writing, and dialogs that would make you say "Why is he talking like that?" in real life.

Oh my godddddd!!!!! WAY too much inner dialogue and turmoil! 21% in and I can’t fucking take this shit any more! “What if he doesn’t like me?” “What if I’m reading too much into this?” “What if Oliver just wants a gay BFF?” “What if I’m not his type?”

WHAT IF YOU SHUT YHE FUCK UP??!

Also the amount of reassurance both of these fuckers need is ridiculous!

62% in and both characters are STILL questioning EVERYTHING!! Internally and in conversation! That’s this whole plot! Just always questioning their feeling for each other!

I don’t think this author has a good grasp on autism. It was like he looked up “autistic behaviors” and just had Huxley mention them internally! Huxley didn’t actually display his behaviors. Then, Huxley blames his misunderstanding with Oliver on his autism! Like, oh, you can’t be mad because I have autism! You have to forgive me because I’m autistic! Fucking duh!

Also, the dogs in the book say “ruh ro”? Ok! 🙄

Ugh! Plus a lot of grammatical errors. I also thought it was way too long. I think it needed better editing!

This book is was seriously fucking stupid!

These two are so darn cute! The nerdy Maths teacher and the cool jock Sports teacher, I couldn’t get over how ridiculously sweet they were together.

I loved seeing how beautifully and naturally their relationship grew. I loved that instant connection and the easy trust between them. I loved how well balanced their relationship is, and how strong and honest their communication is, including how they approach Oliver’s realisation about his sexuality.

Huxley is so blooming adorable, such a darling. I just wanted to hug him all the time! I related to his anxiety so much. And l loved him even more for how he wants his students to know that he’s a safe space if they need someone to confide in.

And our big softie, Oliver. How could I not love him? I love how protective he is of Huxley, and how he’s ready to go to war for him, if needed. Loved how he stands up for Hux – even if it didn’t go so well at one point! Plus, he loves baking AND has a dog. That’s major bonus points in my book!

Everything seems to come at these two at once when they’re trying to build something together and I really felt for them both because they didn’t have an easy time of it. Their fight for representation and acceptance in this book isn’t easy to see when it’s set in the present day but shines a spotlight on the fact that these prejudiced opinions about sexuality are still very much out there today. But it also shows us that there are always people who will fight against it, and that warmed my heart.

Despite the challenges they have to face, Huxley and Oliver manage to make this book seem fairly light-hearted; it’s very easy to read.

And whatever these two face ahead (fingers crossed it’s smooth sailing from here on out though), at least we know that they’ll do it together as a solid, loving couple.

I also loved Koa on so many levels! Looking forward to his book. And, of course, as a massive dog lover, I adored the addition of Louis and Cazaly to the story.

Some of my favourite quotes

“You are who you are, and it’s okay if you’re still figuring it out. You don’t need to label yourself if you’ re not ready.”

“What was different this time?” “You, Huxley Sinclair. You are what made the difference. With you, I can’t deny it.”

“It’s just one part of what makes you unique, and, honestly, fucking adorable.”

“I don’t deserve you, Oli.” “I think it’s me who doesn’t deserve you.”

“I don’t think you know how much you mean to me, Hux.” “If it’s half as much as you mean to me, then I do.”

“I am going to defend you because you’re my boyfriend and I care about you. And as for meeting you, it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

“I never want you to feel pressured. I trust you to know your own body. But please remember, we’re in this together.”

“What I want more than anything else in this world is you. Hux, I’m so deeply, crazy, head over heels in love with you.”

A beautiful, heartfelt, fun and emotional story about finding the courage to stand up for yourself, fight for the people you love, and learn what it truly means to be brave.

When Huxley starts his new job teaching at a Christian school, the last thing he expects is to fall for the school’s sports teacher. Oliver has always considered himself straight...until Huxley makes him question everything he thought he knew about himself. What starts as a beautiful friendship slowly grows into something more, but as their feelings deepen, so do the challenges around them, with discrimination and homophobia threatening the happiness they’re building together.

These two are genuinely some of the sweetest MCs I’ve ever read. Oliver is pure golden retriever energy. Lovable, charismatic, and impossible not to adore. Huxley is quieter and more reserved, a little awkward in the most endearing way, but also incredibly strong and resilient.
Together they are the definition of sweet and spicy. Their attraction is instant, the chemistry is electric, the flirting is sexy and the way they defend each other and face tough times together is so beautiful.

What I loved most was the way their relationship was built on patience, trust, and communication. Huxley carries hurt from his past and has understandably built walls around himself, but Oliver never tries to force them down. Instead, with kindness and care, he creates a safe space for Huxley to slowly let himself be vulnerable again. Watching that trust grow between them felt incredibly genuine and emotional.

This story will take you through every emotion. You’ll be giggling at Oliver’s attempts to flirt with Hux, melting over puppy play dates, heartbroken by everything Huxley has endured, and furious at the discrimination and homophobia he faces within his workplace. Rae captures every emotion so beautifully and makes you feel all of it alongside the characters.

If you love opposites attract, lovable side characters, banter through texts and two men learning to face the world together, then these beautiful, brave and dorky boys will completely steal your heart.

“I want to do things like this for you. For us. I don’t think you know how much you mean to me, Hux.” “If it’s half as much as you mean to me, then I do.”

This is my first book by Rae Roberts and most definitely will not be the last. I love the nerd/jock trope and the love story of Huxley and Oliver will have you in all your feels. This is a story of standing up for what is right, being seen, living authentically and falling in love.

The MMC's are the sweetest, most adorable boys!! I fell in love with both of them and their charming qualities immediately. Oliver Turner - the PE teacher and footy coach, very lovable, charming and all around great guy and Huxley Sinclair the neurodivergent, slightly awkward, and adorable new math teacher. Their chemistry is instant with Oliver trying to welcome Huxley to Brighton College and striking up an instant friendship and doing whatever he can to make Huxley feel welcome to the school.
What Oliver was not expecting was how immediate his attraction to Huxley was - which is a big part of the story, Oliver discovering his sexuality and learning to navigate his feelings for Huxley. While Huxley even with his attraction to Oliver is a bit skittish due to past relationship traumas that broke his heart. But the communication between both of these men is so beautifully written, with their feelings, expectations and the roadblocks they could face with people not accepting their relationship.
I also love how proud and open Huxley is about his sexuality and becoming a safe space for any queer student who needs a person to talk to even when he is facing backlash at his very traditional school he does not back down from what is right. And Oliver, oh Oliver the fiercest protector and champion for Huxley, I love how he would do anything for him, so heartwarming.
And don't even get me started on how they weave a puppy love story with their dogs into this sweet book.

I cannot begin to express how much I loved this story and these characters!! I am so looking forward to Koa's story next!

Meet Me After Class
Rae Roberts

Sweet first-year math teacher Huxley is an out gay man with autism working in a private Christian school in Melbourne. On his first day, he meets second-year PE teacher and soccer coach Ollie. Ollie is straight, or at least, he always thought he was. Then he met Huxley and couldn't stop thinking about him... and not just in a "friend" way.

This story follows these two young men as they discover each other and work against the homophobia that pops up at their school once students find out Huxley is gay.

I was a gay French teacher in the 1990's, and how I wish there had been the opportunity to be out back then! I think of the difference I could have made... Huxley's journey as a teacher who wanted to be a role model for queer students to being on the receiving end of homophobia in his workplace was very realistic. Whereas there were no such protections for me back in the 90's, there are some today. And though it is 2026, this story is a reminder of why we need Pride celebrations still.

I fell in love with these guys. I mean, let's face it, the models on the book cover are stunning... and then the story just made them feel precious to me. Huxley's autism manifested mostly as intense anxiety with a desire to stim, and Oliver's kind and loving acceptance of the autism diagnosis as part of what makes Huxley beautiful is a wonderful example to all.

There is plenty of spice in this book, and it is a fun depiction of Ollie's exploration of what it means to be with another man.

I could only love this book more if it were longer. I wanted to keep reading about them forever.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Meet Me After Class by Rae Roberts and honestly, this book was such a relaxed, feel-good read.

Oliver becomes a friendly face for Huxley on his very first day of work and pretty quickly develops an instant crush on the quiet maths teacher. The only problem? Oliver starts realising he may not be quite as straight as he always thought he was.

Huxley absolutely stole my heart. He’s neurodivergent, awkward in the most lovable way and paired perfectly with Oliver’s protective golden retriever energy. Together they just worked so naturally.

And the text messages? Loved them. One of my favourite little micro tropes and they were done so well here. The banter, the chemistry and that growing connection between them had me smiling the whole time.

Even though the story deals with homophobia, bigotry and mental health struggles, I really appreciated how both MMCs handled things with open and honest communication. It was genuinely refreshing to read a couple who actually talked to each other and worked through things together instead of creating unnecessary drama.

The spice was absolutely on point too. I loved how emotionally open Oliver was — he wasn’t afraid to say what he wanted, talk about his feelings or let Huxley guide him sexually while he figured himself out. Their intimacy felt natural, caring and incredibly well done.

This book delivered exactly what it promised. Sweet, comforting, emotional in the right places and genuinely delicious to read. I flew through it.

Also loved picking up a book by an Australian author because the whole vibe just felt familiar and easy to settle into. This was my first read by Rae Roberts and it definitely won’t be my last.

Big thanks to the author for sending me an ARC copy.

DNF @ 7%

Oliver already starting off having "omg, why did I just think a guy was cute" thoughts didn't bode well for me. Turns out I was right to be hesitant because the writing is way too explicit and reliant on internal monologue to tell the story. Oliver just tells us about his faile relationship with his ex and how he doesn't want to try for one again with his coworker. It would've been so much more interesting to read of instead we'd seen him turn down his coworkers' flirting attempts then later fpund out about his ex when it became relevant rather than having it just expo dumped at the beginning.

Same with Huxley's traumatic history with being bullied. Why did the story just tell us that he had his guards up instead of showing him being overly attentive to his students' words or actions?

Oliver and Huxley's first lunch was alright, but it felt rather awkward with Oliver randomly acting all flustered, which is supposed to be him being weird because he's attracted to Huxley, but that was way too early for a sexual awakening story.

I called it quits when the next chapter, Oliver is already at the "I can't be attracted to Huxley. I'm straight" part of the sexual awakening, completely skipping the fun moments before that where the MC going through the sexual awakening doesn't even consider sexual attraction as the reason they're enjoying the other MC's company.
TL;DR: Writing felt amateurish with how heavily it relied on expo dumps and internal monologues. Oliver should not have been that self aware, that early. 1.5 stars rounded up.

A class in discovery and discrimination

Oh sweet Huxley is adorable and I just wanted to protect him from those with outdated views. I loved how he wanted to be a support person for the LGBTQ+ community, especially in a religious school. Him wanting to be a safe space for kids like him because he didn't have that growing up was amazing, even if it caused issues.

Oliver Is this golden retriever guy who wants everyone to be happy. He is quick to befriend the new math teacher. However, he quickly realizes that he may not be as straight as he thought. I adored his bestie and hope we get his story too.

I loved how Oliver struggled with who to and when to come out. It was so important to Huxley that he wasn't just some dirty little secret and the way Oliver handled that was perfect (well except one time but you have to read about it).

I loved the dogs in this and how much they adored each other. The way they mirrored the owners was adorable. They started out as the wingmen and it was so cute.

This story really showed how one person can make a big wave even if it doesn't move as expected. One person being vulnerable led to a lot of hate being show by people who thought they were better because they had money or power. One spark can cause smoke, a flame, or become a wildfire.

On another note I adored Oliver's mother and hated his brother.

I can't wait to see what's next from this author.

Huxley and Oliver have my heart!
These two are just the CUTEST!!

This book was such an adorable read following the cutest couple!
Their realtionship progress was absolutely perfect and Olivers Bi-awakening was patient and created such a warmth in my heart for him.
Huxley is just an absolute sweetheart and the patience and care he showed Oliver was perfect.

Rae has done a superb job with these two characters, I felt everything bit of Huxley's anxiety l like I was going through it myself. And I loved reading Oliver's POV's during his awakening. The level of trust and honesty portrayed within these characters was beautiful.

Not only does the book highlight a beautiful blossoming relationship and a stunning awakening, it also highlights the homophobia that is still out there.
Hux has been dealing with it his entire life and I really felt for him, especially as he is still receiving it as a Teacher! Jake and Troy are idiots and so is Mr Williams, I wanted to slap all of them in their horrible faces - on multiple occasions.

I loved Hux and Oli's journeys throughout this book and the message this book portrays about standing up for what's right and not taking any sh*t!

Also - special shout out to Cazaly and Louis 🐾 love them so much!

And Amber - YES QUEEN!!

I can't wait to read more from Rae.

I have nothing but love for this sweet yet poignant romance! Set in Australia, this book tells the story of a closeted gym teacher, Oliver, (Oliver Turner to be exact, the same name as the MC of my Appearances series, so that threw me for a minute 😅) and an openly gay math teacher, Huxley. Of course I don't remember his last name so don't ask. 😝

It's a fast burn romance and while it's mostly light-hearted, it doesn’t shy away from tackling some heavier themes. With homophobia lurking in the form of a strict principal who forbids Huxley from wearing a pride pin and refuses to support Oliver in banning the (atrocious) students from the footy team, the strife creates a nuanced backdrop against their blossoming relationship. Despite these obstacles, the book ultimately celebrates love, acceptance, and the power of community support.

Of course I have to mention the MC's dogs, Cazaly and Louis, who become besties, naturally. As a pet owner, I could totally relate to that scene where Oliver and Huxley had to shoo the dogs from the room. 😝🐶💕

If you’re looking for a romantic story that balances sweet moments and serious issues without diving too deep into angst, "Meet Me After Class" I highly recommend this book.

This is a coworkers to friends to more workplace romance, featuring Oliver and Huxley, and is a book one in the Meet Me series.

Oliver is surprised when he starts falling for the new teacher, Huxley, despite always thinking he was straight. As their relationship grows, they must deal with trust issues and the challenges of being together at a strict Christian school.

I love books set in Australia because I live here and this particular one I could picture it completely. I live across the road from a religious high school, so I visualise what the school could be like. This is definitely a hurt / comfort and Huxley experiences a lot of homophobia in the school. Oliver and Huxley are very cute together, and I loved seeing the two dog dads combine their families.

This book was such a sweet, wholesome read. Oliver and Huxley are coworkers and new teachers at a private religious school. Huxley is an out and proud gay man, while Oliver considers himself straight—or at least he thinks he is.

As their friendship grows, Oliver begins to realize that his feelings for Huxley are more than platonic and that he isn’t as straight as he thought. I really enjoyed watching him navigate those emotions and discover more about himself. He was incredibly supportive of Huxley and fiercely protective of him throughout the story. There was a point where I felt frustrated that he wouldn't come out once they were in a relationship, but his journey felt authentic, and everything came together nicely in the end.

The side characters—including the dogs—really helped make the story shine. Maddie, Laura, Koa, Amber, Jennifer, Oliver's brother and mother, and even the principal all added depth and layers to the story.

Oliver and Huxley had wonderful chemistry that developed naturally as they got to know each other. Their relationship felt realistic and believable. I especially loved how thoughtful and romantic Oliver was, making an effort to plan dates and ensure Huxley felt loved, valued, and cared for.

Both characters brought something important to the relationship that the other needed, which made their connection even more meaningful. Overall, this is the perfect low-angst romance: swoony, heartwarming, and full of feel-good moments.

I absolutely loved this book. I picked it up expecting a cute romance and ended up completely obsessed. Every spare minute I had, I was reading – walking to work, on my lunch break, sitting in the car, eating dinner. I genuinely couldn’t put it down.

What made this book so special was Oliver. He was kind, romantic, thoughtful and communicated so well. There were several opportunities for misunderstandings and unnecessary drama, but instead the characters actually talked to each other like adults. It was such a refreshing change and made me fall in love with both of them even more.

The romance was incredibly sweet and had me smiling constantly. The flirting, texting, dog dates, bi-awakening journey and emotional support they gave each other were all done perfectly. Even when difficult topics came up, the story never felt overwhelming because Oliver and Huxley faced everything together.

The spice was exactly the right amount for me too – enough to add to the relationship without taking over the story.

This is one of those books where I became completely invested in the characters and didn’t want it to end.

Without a doubt one of my favourite reads of the year

If you want a story about a man who feels an instant connection to another, is a little confused about but goes for it anyways with all his heart than this is the book for you!! Oliver is the greenest of green flags and would do anything for Huxley, he’s so smitten right off the bat even if he’s so sure he’s straight at first. After some reflection, he’s sure he’s not so he’s ALL IN. Their relationship is so sweet, they build up trust, they communicate well, and their dogs love each other too.
Huxley is a little worried he’s too much for Oliver due to his ASD and his anxiety, and has some baggage from past relationships but Oliver proves over and over that he’s in this for the long haul. And shows him how much he cares and wants him. These two were such a joy to read, honestly a great start to a series!

I signed up for this book based on the blurb alone, and the fact that Rae is a new-to-me author and I've been trying to read more books by new-to-me authors this year.

Unfortunately this book wasn't my favorite, I couldn't get invested into this story. I felt as though the writing was a bit clunky and disjointed, and there wasn't a good flow to me. I thought the 'connection' between the MC's felt a bit forced and rushed as well.. Although, I completely acknowledge the fact that maybe I just wasn't in the right headspace/mood to truly enjoy this book to its full potential.

Please know though this is just MY opinion, I still think if this book caught your eye, you should absolutely read it!

I'm always going to cheer on indie authors in this community whether or not the book was a 5 star read for me or not. 💙

I loved the blurb and thought it would be an interesting read. Finishing this book left me happy and thoughtful. Huxley a new teacher faces discrimination which made me angry because of the injustice. Fortunately Oliver was their from the beginning even if it didn't start as love but friendship. Huxley and Oliver's dogs definitely added humor and some levity. And while this was romance it left me thinking about my own environment in high school. Back then while teachers and schools didn't outwardly talk LGBTQ there wasn't bullying. I specifically remember a transgirl going through what I now know was gender affirming care. To me all anyone said was that it was something they had never seen. No one expressed disgust or hatred more like confusion. I would definitely recommend reading this especially because the ending was so satisfying.

I got this as an ARC from the author. I really enjoyed this! Absolutely devoured it in under 24 hours, really addictive MM romance. Oliver is a PE teacher at a prestigious Melbourne high school, who finds himself being drawn to the new maths teacher Huxley.

The story deals with their budding friendship, then relationship, and is adorably mirrored by their dogs falling for each other too. The themes of allyship and homophobia are explored, as Oliver is forced to confront the fact that he, in fact, is not as straight as he always assumed he was... and his journey as he learns accepts his true self.

I'd recommend this as a gorgeous, spicy MM romance whose characters will stay with you. I look forward to reading the next book in the Meet Me series!!!

Oh my heart this was an emotional book.

Oli and Hux were so cute. And their puppies Caz and Louis. I'm obsessed.

On a serious note this book does explore the very real themes of homophobia within the school system, highlighting the phrases that are heard so often of kids will be kids and boys will be boys.

Unfortunately these slurs are often dismissed as humour and queer people are told that they're not being able to take a joke. What this book does is show the impact that this has on people, their jobs, and their mental health.

It was a beautiful and powerful read. That also explored the narrative of new queer awakening vs someone who's confident in their identity and how that feels for both parties in a relationship.

Such a beautiful story I look forward for book 2

Overall, 4-4.5 stars. I loved Huxley and Oliver’s relationship and how supportive they were of each other as Oliver navigated coming out to his family and at their school while their principal wouldn’t alllow Huxley display any pride related items in his classroom despite facing harassment from some of his students. It was great that they had their friends to rely on for guidance and insight as well.

Their dogs, Caz and Louis, were absolutely adorable and I loved that Lara was in school to be a social worker! The ending wrapped up very nicely as well for Huxley and Oliver, which I appreciated.

It would have been fun to see a snippet of Huxley’s Ao3 writing, since he enjoyed writing.

I can’t wait to read about Koa and Ashton in the next book in the series!

This is a cute story where two new coworkers become friends and fall for each other—while their dogs also become the best of friends too. This book deals heavily with homophobia and discrimination, but also shows how important it is for others to be an ally and stand up against terrible people and behaviors. Even though there are multiple awful people, there’s even more wonderful and supportive ones. It’s incredibly disheartening to know that there are people still like this in 2026. One of the students, Amber, said it best “We’re everywhere, Mr Williams, and we’re not going to take it anymore.”

This was a read that touched on some experiences from my own life, and I kept wanting to reach into the pages and hug these two characters for their bravery and resilience.
Huxley and Oliver are absolutely adorable together, and being out the best in one another.
A very sweet and courageous story about what it means to stand up not only for others but for yourself. Please go read it.
Thank you to Rae Roberts for the opportunity to read this arc.
