Mia learns that you have to make your own luck—rather than rely on fun trinkets—in the latest addition to the Cupcake Diaries series.
Mia is having a truly terrible week. So far she’s failed a pop quiz, ruined a batch of cupcakes, and even dropped some icing on her favorite shirt! But her cousins from Puerto Rico are coming to visit, so Mia has something to look forward to—and they even bring her a little lucky charm as a gift!
When Mia’s luck immediately turns around, she’s convinced that her lucky charm really does have magic powers. But what will she do when her bad luck returns?
Coco Simon always dreamed of opening a cupcake bakery, but she’s afraid she would eat all the profits. When she’s not daydreaming about cupcakes, Coco edits children’s books and has written close to 100 books for children, tweens, and young adults, which is a lot less than the number of cupcakes she’s eaten. Cupcake Diaries is the first time Coco has mixed her love of cupcakes with writing.
I really liked this book! Mia starts having bad luck when her alarm doesn't go off so she is then late for school, her hairdryer breaks, and she ruins a batch of cupcakes. But her luck turns around when her cousins, aunts, and uncles come to visit and Laura gives her a good luck bracelet and she finally has good luck. In fact, she wakes up a little early, her hairdryer gets fixed, she has an amazing outfit and everything seems to be going great. Except her best friend Emma has a crush on Mia's cousin Sebastian and Emma wants Mia to find out if he likes her! But the bad luck returns when Mia forgets to read her history book and fails a test! Sebastian realizes he might have a crush on Emma and Emma is excited. Mia's parent's understand all the pressure she's been under and let's it slide but motivates her to keep trying hard. I recommend this book for ages 8+. I probably won't reread this cause of so many other books on my TBR pile.
This entry in the Cupcake Diaries series was really good. The cupcakers are dealing with the middle school challenges of life while still making cupcakes. With the recent additions of the series, the focus has been on their lives more so than on their cupcake business. They are still making cupcakes but, the sweet story is watching them grow together.
“‘All this is happening for a reason. I just don’t know what it is yet.’” - Mia had a really bad day, but after getting a “lucky” bracelet from her aunt, she started having some great days. Eventually she realized that when it came down to it, she needed to focus on school and not rely on luck, because you do reap what you sow. - Emma kinda crushes on Mia’s cousin Sebastian. She goes kinda punk. But she was already interested in metal before because of her brother. I understand that - liking heavy music because of the influence of your sibling, but none of your friends share that interest. Anyways, it seems like she has had several small crushes: Diego Diaz, some Nick guy, Joe Fraser, and now Sebastian.
I relly like this book because it is about a girl who is in a cupcake club and she has bad luck for the whole week and then someone gives her a bracelet and then she starts to have better luck. Then she starts to get too overconfident and then her luck starts to fade away. No to mention that she is failing one of her classes and trying to keep all of her friends happy, and trying to keep up with the club.
