I was lucky enough to receive MANIC as an ARC from the author, and from the moment it arrived, I felt that familiar spark—the kind that tells you a book is about to take over your entire day. I’d already read the key plot points, so my excitement was simmering, but believe me when I say this book did not disappoint. It didn’t just meet expectations; it obliterated them. My reviews always focus on feelings, on the emotional chokehold a story can have, and MANIC demanded exactly that. I got 90% of the way through it on the first day because it refused to let me go. It wrapped a hand around my throat and whispered, keep reading.
The writing is so immersive it borders on intoxicating. C.J. Blaire has this uncanny ability to make you feel like you’re physically present in every scene. I could practically smell Manic’s expensive cologne lingering in the air, mixed with the faint bite of a recently smoked cigarette. I could hear the soft drag of his breath, feel the tension radiating off him, sense the danger in the way he watches the world. Every detail pulls you deeper, until you’re not just reading—you’re experiencing.

Wow. This woman KNOWS how to write. I don’t know what it is about CJ Blaire’s writing, but it is so poetic and emotional that it pulls you in from the very first page and doesn’t let go.
The twists and turns had me constantly second guessing myself. You think you see something coming… and then you realize you absolutely did NOT. She keeps you on your toes and plays with your emotions the entire way through. This book is an emotional roller coaster in the best possible way.
I love how she prepares you before you even enter the story, but somehow you’re never actually prepared because her writing is just THAT good. This is such a fresh take on mafia romance, and I have been waiting for this story for what feels like forever. I am so incredibly thankful and grateful that I was given the opportunity to read it as an ARC reader. ❤️

If you love dark, poetic, emotionally intense mafia romance, you NEED to read this.
I especially loved the way we got so deeply into their minds. The captive/captor dynamic was such a unique take because they mirror each other in so many ways. The way they think, the way they feel, even the way they speak to one another it all feels intentionally mirrored, and I absolutely loved that aspect of the story.
I also LOVED the feminine rage of our FMC and the backbone she has. She is strong, resilient, and refuses to just sit back and accept what’s handed to her. And then we have our MMC with that possessive protectiveness that I absolutely LIVE for. The combination of the two of them was perfection.
And the character development?! I loved it. The emotional depth and development of these characters was incredible, especially toward the end. It reminded me that there really is always that person out there who will take the time to truly see you.
Sometimes, you don’t need someone to fix you. Sometimes you just need someone to stop, look at you, and genuinely ask:
“Are you okay?”

First of all… Manic??? Yeah, that title checks out because this book had me a little manic by the end. 😂
This had EVERYTHING I want in a dark mafia romance: obsession, possessiveness, kidnapping, secrets, danger, questionable decisions, spice, and a man who apparently decided that “normal boundaries” were simply not for him. 😂
Manic was OBSESSED with Sutton and honestly… I was obsessed with HIM being obsessed with Sutton. 😂 He was protective, sneaky, unhinged in the best dark-romance way, and every time he popped up I was like 👀🍿 okayyyy what are we doing now?!
Sutton was also such a fun FMC. Did she frustrate me sometimes? Absolutely. 😂 There were moments where I was practically yelling at her through the pages like GIRL. PLEASE. CONNECT THE DOTS. But at the same time, I think that made her feel more real, and I genuinely felt for her throughout the story.
And these two together?? I loved them. They balance each other so well, and the tension/yarning between them had me INVESTED. Like, put the book down? Absolutely not. I had things to find out.
Also… Amelia. 😒 That is all I will say because I am trying to remain civil.

He has officially secured himself a spot in my top ten obsessive book boyfriends because the dedication this man had?! Whew. I was completely hooked by Manic and Sutton from the beginning. Their relationship is dark, complicated, obsessive and intense in exactly the way I love my dark romances to be.
Sutton is such an interesting character because she’s thrown into a world she never asked for, yet there’s so much more to her than meets the eye. I loved watching her relationship with Manic develop and seeing all those layers slowly come undone.
And Manic… 👀🖤
Dangerous, possessive, obsessive and completely unhinged when it comes to Sutton. He has that perfect dark-romance energy where you KNOW you probably shouldn’t be falling for him… but somehow you absolutely do. 😂
The obsession, the tension, the power dynamics, the secrets and the chemistry between these two kept me turning the pages. There were moments where I genuinely didn’t know what was coming next, and I loved being kept on my toes.

Sutton has a stalker and Manic is the heir to a mafia organization. Both of them stuck and unable to leave the lives they were born into. What could possibly go wrong? Everything.
I was so pumped for this book and all of my expectations were exceeded. Easily one of my favorite reads of the year.
This fresh take on a mafia romance was just what I needed. The storyline was dark, intricate, and compelling. The main characters were complex and kept me engaged.
Sutton surprised me. Her character arc sent me on a spiral. She was a good reminder that we are stronger and cleverer than we give ourselves credit for. Her tenacity and anger kept her alive and gained the respect of those around her.
I’m not usually an asshole MMC lover and Manic is very much an asshole when you meet him. But his character development and complexity sucked me in. I felt his pain and anger and anxiety. I could feel his need to be free. Also, he’s a yearner and I love a man who yearns.
The story itself is written beautifully and I believe CJ Blaire handled the mental health portion of the story with care.
I would 10/10 recommend this book.

I was so pumped for this book and all of my expectations were exceeded. Easily one of my favorite reads of the year.
This fresh take on a mafia romance was just what I needed. The storyline was dark, intricate, and compelling. The main characters were complex and kept me engaged.
Sutton surprised me. Her character arc sent me on a spiral. She was a good reminder that we are stronger and cleverer than we give ourselves credit for. Her tenacity and anger kept her alive and gained the respect of those around her.
I’m not usually an asshole MMC lover and Manic is very much an asshole when you meet him. But his character development and complexity sucked me in. I felt his pain and anger and anxiety. I could feel his need to be free. Also, he’s a yearner and I love a man who yearns.
The story itself is written beautifully and I believe CJ Blaire handled the mental health portion of the story with care.
I would 10/10 recommend this book.

Manic is definitely a spin on mafia tropes. majority center around maintaining the organization going. Or a power struggle to stay on top, but what happens when a future heir wants out. That is what Manic is desperately wanting to do. He wants to have freedom from the life he was born into. He suffers from a condition that doesn't allow him to feel emotions like a normal person would. So during the last 5 years of his life he became utterly obsessed with Sutton, and becomes her stalker. She is pure in the sense that everyone around her knows and lives the Mafia life, but she is unaware of the dealings going on behind close doors. This book had me screaming obscenities at Manic and verbally shaking Sutton. But if you pay attention to the cues you will see the love Manic has developed for our FMC Sutton over the years. The twist in this story kept me turning the pages, and were not what I thought. I didn't see a way out of their situation and Mrs. Blaire somehow made it possible to find an ending that would leave me gasping with suspense and crying for more. Definitely a must read for all my mafia loving gals and gents out there!!! This is a standalone so no cliffy!

I received this book as an arc🖤 I really wanted this arc and I’m so happy I got it !! This book met all of my expectations! It has everything you’d want in a mafia romance!
Manic reminded me of another character I love in another series! I LOVED manic’s character! He was perfectly obsessive and protective and sooo sneaky! I wish we had more of him!
Sutton was also really likable i feel like she was intentionally ignorant to things at certain times which did frustrate me but that’s how you know she’s well written! I felt really bad for both of them through out the story. I love them together though! They balance one another out.
I wish this wasn’t a standalone because I enjoyed these characters so much but I feel like the pay off was pretty good so it didn’t feel incomplete.
I couldn’t stand Amelia !!!!

This gave me everything I expect from a mafia romance-danger, secrets, power, and morally questionable men-but then flipped the script in a way I really loved.
Manic wants to leave the mafia life rather than embrace it and that added a layer to the story that I really enjoyed. He obsession with Sutton was so much fun to watch, that man had it bad, and I loved all his moments with her. And Sutton, she may have been naive about her family's secrets, but she was never weak and when she had the opportunity she knew to turn the tables. Her sass was wonderful and I really enjoyed her reactions to Manic. Their emotional depth, complexity, and character development made their relationship feel like more than just attraction. They balanced each other perfectly, found a sense of peace in one another while surrounded by absolute chaos.
I do hope we get a stories with Axell and Grave because they were side characters and I want to see them get the HEAs.

So it’s a 4.5 for me!
I had been seeing snippets of this book on Bookstagram and it definitely did not disappoint. I was lucky enough to receive an arc for this and it was at the perfect timing because I was in a deep book slump. One thing about me is a dark mafia romance is always gonna pull me out… and my man MANIC did just that.
He was dark, and didn’t speak much (my fave type of mmc) but when he opened his mouth omg it was always put to use perfectly.
Without any spoilers, I really enjoyed the plot line that was different from a typical mafia romance. (More on that after release)
It also weaved in my favorite trope, which is stalker and it fit in so well with the story.
When I was getting close to finishing the book, I didn’t want it to end and I was really hoping that we would get a book 2 for Manic and Sutton. It was that good. I loved them.
I am intrigued and would happily read the other couples from this world. I hope she continues to write for them.

If you're looking for a good mafia romance, look no further. I loved this one, and it definitely took on a different type of view into a mafia story. You have Sutton, who is just enjoying life unaware of the dangers lurking in the corners, well, besides the stalker she's absolutely obsessed with. Then you have Manic, who basically runs the surveillance side of the mafia business for his family. There is a threat to Suttons life, which leads Manic to be summoned to kidnap her, and that's when everything Sutton thought she knew begins to crumble. The yearning in this undeniable. You've definitely got an enemies to lovers with a side of forced proximity, and it is written beautifully. There is also betrayal and heartbreak, but it comes with the territory that is the mafia.
Sutton was a hidden gem, and I wanted to polish her until she shined her brightest.

This was such a great read, I couldn’t put it down. I was trying to wait patiently for this ARC and so glad I signed up for it. I was hooked and engaged into this story from the beginning and what a rollercoaster ride it was all the way through. Who doesn’t love an MMC that is obsessed and morally grey (more morally black really) that thinks ten steps ahead and will do anything and everything for his FMC (once he finally accepts his own feelings). And this FMC was such a surprise. Sutton definitely had her own hidden morally grey and sharp edges. This made both MCs so interesting to read and had me thrown for a loop with their twists and turns. I definitely recommend this book and can’t wait for more reads from this author.

Manic is a stand alone novel that will teach you the true definition of yearning. I was privileged to Alpha read this as CJ went through the writing process and was then asked to proofread (which is a dream come true for me, btw); the second read-through of this book was better than the first.
Our two main characters are trapped in mafia society, one unknowingly. Our FMC has an "admirer" (aka stalker- but it's dark romance, so the line is blurry), while our MMC is essentially the mafia's enforcer. The MMC is tasked with kidnapping the FMC, and our story unfolds. I was able to read MANIC, early. But honestly it was at the perfect time for me anyway… I was in a reading slump.
When I say this was *chefs kiss* I MEAN IT.
I might be biased because I love C.J. Blaire’s writing, but I would recommend this mafia story any day.
When I picked it up, I don’t think I put it down for a second unless it was to sleep.
There was no rushed or slow pacing, it was steady and consistent.

When I picked it up, I don’t think I put it down for a second unless it was to sleep.

The happiest hea I've ever read in a mafia romance.
This was such a different type of mafia romance, and I loved it. The main characters were both strong and resilient while sorting through betrayal and secrets at every turn. I highly recommend reading this book and if you're looking for spice it definitely has plenty! Take a chance on Manic and Sutton they have such an interesting story to tell!

I had a great time with this dark romance by CJ Blaire! Sutton and Manic have an amazing dynamic - he's morally black, while she's naive but not as innocent as she appears. The high stakes of both of their lives mesh well with the mafia vibes. I love CJ's writing style and her ability to captivate from the first page. I've read her romantasy books and am now looking forward to more dark romance from her!

This was such a great emotional and spicy read. I loved how morally black and broken the MMC was and how he would go to the ends of the earth and back again for the naive and moody FMC.
This book was beautifully written and I didn’t want it to end. I devoured this I just over 24 hours. Manic easily is my new book boyfriend.

Hey guysss I just wanted let you I got an ARC Book so this is a review before the book is released!!! I screamed. I cried. I laughed. I had moments where I genuinely had to put the book down and just process what I had read. This was one of those books that completely sucked me in and made me feel EVERYTHING.
