I feel physically sick after reading that but in the best way possible but also cried so hard. I didn’t think book 2 could get better than book 1 but oh my god it was fantastic. Now knowing what I know looking back on the full book I’m like HOW DID I NOT REALISE BEFORE. Absolutely fantastic book and I need book 3 yesterday so chop chop

Story -
This follows Noah who is now getting g to terms with being a vampire, adjusting to the world around him, as he gots back to Lockwood University for the 2nd year he is told to focus on his work.. he has been threatened ... not his life but someone very close to him, but some secrets always find a way out even if your not actively looking for it!
pros-
it follows on very nicely from Vanished giving both stories a song start but also Vanished a strong ending.
The plot definitely thickens with this book!!! there is so much happening all the time you barley get a breather to process whats happened which i think is VERY clever as your so enthralled in reading, and your still trying g focus on one thing that the main part just completely goes un detected until it literally slams into you and then your left going how did I not see that!!!!
Cons -
i cant say i can think of anything negative about this book! but it would have been nice to see a little note of Ruby with Ash. it was written so well!!
Character Development-
u loced the characters Development in this.
Brent suprised me i. tbis and I think he matured very well and it wasnt what I was expecting.
Miles was just well Miles haha.
Elouise and Noah also have developed so well .. showing maturity throughout abd selfless needs to protect others.

I’m not sure these words do justice to how much of a pleasure this book was to read. It takes the series in a much darker, grittier direction, with a stronger focus on the academic side of Lockwood University rather than being a twist-heavy thriller. That doesn’t take away from how compelling it is though. The pacing is excellent, and there are plenty of moments that keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next.
One of the biggest surprises for me was just how much personality and depth every character had. They are all given the space to develop their own distinct voices, senses of humour and individual personalities, making each of them feel incredibly well rounded. It’s clear that JJ’s personality shines through in the writing, and it genuinely feels as though this book was a joy to write.
I’m really glad there was more focus on the academic side of the story because it gave the opportunity to explore the different species and expand on the character lore in ways that book one only hinted at.
I’m also very pleased that the series has embraced a darker tone. With the characters that exist in this world, it feels like a natural direction for the story to take. It creates more opportunities for impactful twists and genuinely heart-wrenching moments, and this book certainly delivers both.
I can’t wait to see where the rest of the series goes. I’m incredibly excited to find out what comes next.

When I finished the first book, I was lucky to have the sequel. Unfortunately I finished Nocturnal and I don’t have a sequel.
Another masterpiece from JJ.
New character introduced, old dramas continued in the lore and new characters exciting situations happened in the life of Noah in Lockwood. The past and the present are connected into the Royals plot which made the story very interesting and gave a huge cliffhanger for the next book.
I can’t barely imagine what will happen with Noah.
I will be waiting for the sequel.

Okay, my heart was actually racing at the end of that!
I absolutely loved this book. Another great follow on from book 1, the development of the story flows nicely as we delve deeper into the mysteries and more deceit is uncovered that feels like a natural development.
I *LOVE* that we don't vilify Brent and turn him into his father, the progression of them learning to trust each other again is *chef's kiss*.
As for everything else? I want to be the first to know when the next book arrives! I laughed, cried and GASPED at so many parts of this and now I'm recommending it to anyone who will listen as I'd like to emotionally wreck all my peers :)

Excuse me. You didnt make me need to sob so much. Like, perfectly put in the story and not force. This story from book one on is fast paced, entertaining, and well told. The twists are surprising, and Noah's choices are always "helpful".... stress on the " " 😅

Again another fantastic journey with Noah Beach this book i couldnt put down at all so captivated and wanted to know what Noah is doing next .im hoping for a book 3 .amazing highly recomend take a journey along with Noah and his friends at Lockwood universaty. Fantastic .

Nocturnal
This is book 2 of at least 3 in a series, and I recommend that you do read Vanished before Nocturnal.
It's a dark read as Noah learns the ropes as a vampire, whilst also being dragged further into the mysteries and secrets of the Elites' history.
Massive cliffhanger warning just in case you can't cope with that, especially as book 3 isn't out yet. Can't wait (but will have to!).

Ive read and thoughly enjoyed this book with in 2 days it's carries on from vanished and is quickly becoming one of my fave series for this year I highly recommend it and it's gonna be playing on my mind for a while xx

I was really looking forward to this release. Book one, Vanished, ended in a way that opened the story up in so many directions.
The book didn’t disappoint, I was hooked from the very first chapter. I think I liked it even more than the previous one. The stakes are high, and the plot is complex, twisty, and deliciously unpredictable.
What I especially loved is that, although it’s a fantasy dark academia, it often reads like a thriller. I was constantly second-guessing my theories, looking for breadcrumbs, and trying to piece together where the story was heading. Every new revelation seemed to raise even more questions.
And the action scenes? OMG. So immersive. I couldn’t read fast enough! The author writes in a way that makes you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action, experiencing everything alongside the characters.
I loved the new characters and the depth this book had. I’m a big fan of a good overarching intrigue, and this one delivered.
Nocturnal made me gasp, giggle, and feel all the feels. It will definitely live rent-free in my head until book three comes out!

Book 2 didnt disappoint! Theres something about this series that just feels like a comfort read despite there being sensitive topics explored. I love the setting of the university, and the characters just feel really right for the plot!

Well… J.J, I hope you’re happy because you’ve emotionally destroyed me. ( I told you we will be having words just a month late oops)
Nocturnal was hands down one of my most anticipated reads of 2026 after how obsessed I became with Vanished, and somehow this book managed to exceed every expectation I had. (and my expectations where already super high YIPPPEE!!)
This sequel is darker, bloodier, more emotional, more intense, and somehow even more addictive. Every time I thought I had something figured out, the story would pull the rug out from under me. I spent the entire book suspicious of everyone, making theories, changing my mind every few chapters, and messaging J.J. with my latest ideas and my wild suspicions. Being able to share my reading journey with the author as I went made this experience so much fun!!!!
The characters continue to grow in ways that feel so natural, the relationships become even more compelling, there’s a little bit of spice sprinkled in, and the emotional moments hit so much harder because of how attached I’ve become to everyone.( I sobbed at one point so if ur planning on reading tissues will be needed)
And then… THAT ending.
No spoilers, because everyone deserves to experience it for themselves, but I genuinely had to sit there staring at the last page trying to process what I’d just read. The plot twists were insane, the emotions were relentless, and that cliffhanger should honestly be illegal.
This series just keeps getting better. If you loved Vanished, you’re going to devour Nocturnal. It raises the stakes in every possible way and leaves you completely desperate for the next book.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be impatiently waiting (and probably overanalysing every theory I have) and counting down the days until book three because I NEED ANSWERS NEEEOWWW

HOLY SMOKES!!!
This book blew my mind I absolutely loved Vanished (book 1) but Nocturnal (book 2) was even better!!! I think I may of found my new favourite book series… this was so much darker then book one it had violence a little spice and the biggest plot twist that I really never saw coming especially as it came from my favourite character….
Nocturnal had me hooked and I’m sad that I completed the book as now I have to wait for book 3… it’s kind of like waiting for the new Harry Potter books to come out again!!
And it finished on a cliff hanger so now I have to wait for book 3 to see what happens next! 😭

First of all thank you so much for letting me ARC Nocturnal, I have had the best time reading this!!
Throughout the whole book I was shocked. The difference in feelings throughout Nocturnal to Vanished is that it is darker and definitely in my opinion more emotional. Seeing Noah become so attached to (Roman’s child) and going out of his way to protect his new found family.
I liked the fact there was a little bit of spice in the books but it was definitely more closed door spice.
I’ve laughed I’ve cried and it’s definitely sent me through another emotional rollercoaster. The uncertainty of how to feel about different characters is what I absolutely loved. The whole way through I was like “do we trust Brent? Do we not???” I loved the character progression of Miles and his humour and little sentences at inappropriate just made me laugh!
THAT ENDING OMG, absolutely left on a cliff hanger yet again… BOOK 3 was needed yesterday !!
I do suggest that if you are planning on reading this then to make sure you refresh yourself on the going one in Vanished.

Nocturnal this time round is rated New Adult so therefore 18+ as it is mentioned it features alot more darkness compared to Vanished (Book 1), and as the characters are getting older and more mature, there will be some Secual Activity. (Spelt wrong on purpose).
Compared to Vanished, Nocturnal does come with a list of triggers this time round, but trust me when I say, it is issues that are bareable!

I did not only ARC Nocturnal but I also beta read it, and JJ felt my full wrath (I'm sure he can confirm if asked lol). I absolutely 1000% have been OBSESSED with all things Lockwood since I found JJ, I'm grateful to have came across his tiktok as now not only do I have another Indie Authors series I LOVE, but I have found a friend too!
Page 1 opens similar to page 1 in Book 1 Vanished, I was instantly absorbed into the storyline as it picks up after the events of Book 1 (no spoilers, but you should probably know since you need to read Book 1 Vanished, to understand ANYTHING going on in this read). JJ's writing in Vanished was incredibly done, but Nocturnal- hot damn. JJ completely stepped it up more than a notch, his writing had improved massively and you really can tell. I was on an emotional rollercoaster liturally right from the VERY beginning. Like wtf JJ??? He just throws you right in there, no warming up at all (but I did love that).. just like Vanished (Book 1), Nocturnal is written from the POV of Noah Beach, who is still trying to overcome huge adjustments in his life, he emotionally feels like he is drowning with everything that happened previously, and constantly wants to feel pain (enter the 💀 attempt trigger warning).
Throughout the story we get to see his relationships grow with all his close knit circle & we get to meet Ruby & Roman's adorible child (that kiddo has my heart JJ).
JJ had none stop emotional messages from me throughout this read - and also had alot of laughs due to my reactions to things - he gladly had fun in my emotional turmoil Nocturnal trauma. The twists and turns yet again done by JJ was done with incredible skill, twists that even I did not pick up on and it was complete awe and shock factor throughout.
There is some spice in this Book, but it is nothing like the major chilli factor, as JJ wanted the main focus to remain on the storyline which is totally understandable and done amazingly.
My jaw hit the floor throughout, I laughed, I cried, I think I even had to step away for a few minutes at one or 2 points due to the shock factor (not because of triggers etc)... the hate I felt towards characters, the fear I felt for those characters I loved, the overall atmosphere within the world liturally just kept you on a constant knife edge wanting AND needing more. I read Nocturnal within 12 hours (I liturally didnt put it down and just had to keep going) JJ couldn't/didn't believe me when I was like "okay doneeee. Now we need words." 👀🤣
JJ, Nocturnal is 100% a step up from Vanished & you should be incredibly proud of this work, I know for a fact my hubby best do something to fund my book addition to this series as I NEED every version. K thanks ❤️❤️❤️

I absolutely 1000% have been OBSESSED with all things Lockwood since I found JJ, I'm grateful to have came across his tiktok as now not only do I have another Indie Authors series I LOVE, but I have found a friend too!
Page 1 opens similar to page 1 in Book 1 Vanished, I was instantly absorbed into the storyline as it picks up after the events of Book 1 (no spoilers, but you should probably know since you need to read Book 1 Vanished, to understand ANYTHING going on in this read). JJ's writing in Vanished was incredibly done, but Nocturnal- hot damn. JJ completely stepped it up more than a notch, his writing had improved massively and you really can tell. I was on an emotional rollercoaster liturally right from the VERY beginning. Like wtf JJ??? He just throws you right in there, no warming up at all (but I did love that).. just like Vanished (Book 1), Nocturnal is written from the POV of Noah Beach, who is still trying to overcome huge adjustments in his life, he emotionally feels like he is drowning with everything that happened previously, and constantly wants to feel pain (enter the 💀 attempt trigger warning).
Throughout the story we get to see his relationships grow with all his close knit circle & we get to meet Ruby & Roman's adorible child (that kiddo has my heart JJ).
JJ had none stop emotional messages from me throughout this read - and also had alot of laughs due to my reactions to things - he gladly had fun in my emotional turmoil Nocturnal trauma. The twists and turns yet again done by JJ was done with incredible skill, twists that even I did not pick up on and it was complete awe and shock factor throughout.
There is some spice in this Book, but it is nothing like the major chilli factor, as JJ wanted the main focus to remain on the storyline which is totally understandable and done amazingly.
My jaw hit the floor throughout, I laughed, I cried, I think I even had to step away for a few minutes at one or 2 points due to the shock factor (not because of triggers etc)... the hate I felt towards characters, the fear I felt for those characters I loved, the overall atmosphere within the world liturally just kept you on a constant knife edge wanting AND needing more. I read Nocturnal within 12 hours (I liturally didnt put it down and just had to keep going) JJ couldn't/didn't believe me when I was like "okay doneeee. Now we need words." 👀🤣
JJ, Nocturnal is 100% a step up from Vanished & you should be incredibly proud of this work, I know for a fact my hubby best do something to fund my book addition to this series as I NEED every version. K thanks ❤️❤️❤️

Nocturnal is a dark supernatural academia with so much emotion. It is not just “supernatural university”; it is grief, guilt, found family, trauma, power structures, Royal corruption, and one very self-destrucive MMC trying to turn pain into purpose.
Our MMC protagonist Noah is funny, reckless, loyal, self-destructive in a way that makes him relatable and loved rather than polished "know-how". In the first book he lost his brother and his best friend - the guilt, the violence, and the constant feeling that he is becoming something worse are a constant tension in the book.
I loooved the detailed world-building here, where in the first I felt something lacking, the author delivered x2 in the second. We get more details on each species, and I love the idea of witches and wizards being different, not only in their type of magical abilities but also their strengths/weaknesses - Also I love gran Medusa - I think she should get her own novela of becoming what she is today!
The mix of vampires, shifters, wizards/witches, warefolves, Royals, old laws, hidden archives/forbidden history, and unsuccessful experiments gives the story a bigger political layer but not in just in a 'conspiracy' level, but it inhances the story beyond the romance and friendship that we also get going on.
The romance is cute, I wouldn't give it one full chilli in terms of PC scenes.
Pacing is again started slow the first few chapters, then half way trough first term it goes to medium and last term is still medium but so much happens that you think you can't take it anymore, AND then you get another revalation!!!😅 despite the pace we have many family links and subplots that are hidden and not so hidden in plain sight that will click at the end and you will have to collect your jaw 😄 it is 100% bingable. I finished it in one day 😅
The final term is where everything turns feral and high-stakes. We get the exposure of the truth, Noah isn't a hero by any means, he hurts people and his choices and morals at times are questionable and at the end exposes himself in a way that makes you love him even more - he gets the truth out but at a cost not many will be willing to pay.
Overall, though, it has that “just one more chapter” that I would not recomend reading in public without any tissues 😆

If you like dark themed Academia books with mystery, intrigue & trials, then I would say give this series a go - This is book 2 & I would recommend that you read them in order.
You follow the crew from book 1 (no spoilers), with a few new introductions along the way. But as in most series, book 2 is the place where you start to get more character development & depth as you get to know them, & this book is no different in bringing to life the main characters.
On a side note - I want a Wink!! I enjoyed the more mysterious vibes in this book, with the 'extra curricular' activity / trials that Noah & co are put through, giving more texture to the plotline.
Pacing is similar to book 1, starts off slow & builds as the book goes along, once you get to about the mid-way point it's flying. Personally I love a fast paced read, but I found the creative plot line kept me engaged in the narrative throughout the slower times & then I was hooked as the pacing picked up.
For those that love their spice, this book does give you an ikkle hint of spice, but it is 'closed door' action, so not really any hot & steamy going on between the sheets or the pages! I do believe the spice train will be featuring later in the series. However, if you like a bit of blood & gore then you will 100% enjoy this book as it has definitely upped the anti with regards to the graphic nature of some of the fight scenes in this book - which I'm here for.
Overall, I would say this series is getting better, as the author gets into their stride. They are not scared of being harsh with a character which I love, & as before the modern language used gives it a fresh spin on other Academia novels. So, if you're looking for a book with an Academic vibe like Zodiac Academy, or one that has a similar gruesome flavour like the Sanatorium, & puts the characters through a few trials like Blood of Hercules, but you want it all with a more modern flavour & British vibes, then I would say grab a copy of 'Vanished' (Book 1) now, so you are ready for the release of 'Nocturnal' at the end of May 2026.

Since finished the first book, Vanished, I’ve been waiting as patiently as possible for this sequel. Luckily, I didn’t have to wait too long. However, I’m now having to wait again for book 3.
The start of the book flows really well from book one. It reminds you of the characters and where we left off. Then we get back to Lockwood and it’s like I never left. We’re introduced to new character’s that have been written into the story really well, as if they’ve been part of it all along.
Book 2 definitely has somewhat of a different vibe to book 1. Mostly because it’s a darker theme, but it works so well with the story and I’m happy that JJ added these parts because it made the story more… realistic in a way. Everything the group did, there was a risk and/or consequence.
The twists and turns in this book, you don’t know who to trust. It’s such an emotional roller-coaster, it will have you on the edge of your seat. Especially the fight scenes. Written with such intensity, you don’t know who will or won’t survive. There are a few plot twists in the book, some where you think you should have realised what was happening, some that will hit you out of nowhere.
Relationships are built and others broken, there is no in-between at Lockwood. There is something happening constantly in the book and keeps you wanting to continue reading. From the descriptions of emotions to the environments, they’re described amazingly.
In a sense, this series makes me wish I could be a student of Lockwood. Without, you know, the dangers. In my opinion, book one didn’t need improving, I loved it thoroughly, but I must admit, JJ has made book 2 better than book 1. I would highly recommend this series.

I thought Vanished was an excellent opening to the series, but Nocturnal surpasses it in every way. It's much darker in tone, with higher stakes and an intensity that keeps the pages turning. The story is gripping throughout, and the new characters introduced add real depth and intrigue to the plot.
Without giving away any spoilers, the betrayal towards the end genuinely caught me by surprise. I never saw it coming, and now I need to know the reasons behind it!
J. J. Foraday has crafted a thrilling sequel that builds brilliantly on the first book while taking the story in unexpected directions. If you enjoyed Vanished, you're going to love Nocturnal !
Now the wait begins for the next instalment. Come on, Mr. Foraday—please don't keep me waiting too long!

A strong and compelling sequel that successfully builds on the foundations established in the first book. Darker in tone and higher in stakes, this instalment combines emotional depth, supernatural intrigue, and excellent character development with a series of well-executed twists and revelations. The world-building is richer, the relationships more complex, and the tension remains high throughout, making it difficult to put down. Noah continues to be a fascinating protagonist, and the blend of found family, grief, mystery, and political intrigue creates an engaging and immersive reading experience. An impressive continuation of the Lockwood University series that leaves readers eager for the next instalment.

I couldn't put it down, especially the last 50% when things started to heat up.
I love the friend group, I was definitely shocked with one particular character and the twist at the end. Things were not as they seemed and I would of never have predicted that 😳
Noah and Milles relationship I adore. I have warmed up to Brent especially in the last 50% 😍
Also what i love is the fact that the world building isn't to difficult and confusing to understand like a lot of fantasy books.
This is so deserving of the 5⭐️

A new year at Lockwood means Freshers week! Time for drugs, debauchery and dirty dancing.
But not all is well in the halls of Lockwood. Secrets have a habit of refusing to stay buried, and sometimes so do the dead.
An amazing sequel that builds the world out in more detail without feeling overly complicated or weighed down with unnecessary detail.
I especially enjoyed the running theme of Elites vs Ordinary in the context of someone who has recently experienced both.

I’m actually speechless, like I can’t find the words! After reading Vanished (book 1) I didn’t think anything could top it, but WOW!!
Amazing series, and I’m already on pins waiting for the next instalment!
Also I just want to add, I haven’t sat down and read an actual book since I was a teenager, and even then I don’t think I ever finished one - this Lockwood series has really made me fall in love with reading, every spare minute between work, kids and everything else I’ve been sneaking away just to get at least one more chapter in - it’s actually addictive!!!

What a brilliant read! From the very beginning, this book pulls you straight back in
I loved the darker direction of the story and the way Noah’s character develops throughout. He feels more dangerous, more determined and completely unpredictable.
If you enjoy dark fantasy and supernatural powers, this is definitely one to read. A fantastic sequel that raises the stakes in every possible way.

I revieved an ARC copy of Nocturnal.
I loved Vanished, it got me into reading, reminding me of a British Zodiac Academy. The sequel, Nocturnal, was darker and plenty more action. However I found the heart warming, magical moments the best. I loved the new character Hugo. There was also a huge plot twist that I did not see coming. Can’t wait for the next book.
