What do you think?

Ember Creek
She left Portland because it had the shape of someone in every room. She moved to a small Colorado mountain town on nothing but a name she'd held onto at her worst moment and the fragile hope that 8,200 feet of distance might be enough to learn how to breathe again.
He moved to Ember Creek to take care of his grandmother and told himself that fine was enough — and it was, right up until the afternoon he walked into a bookshop to pick up her book order, glanced across the room on his way out, and spent the whole drive home thinking about someone he'd never spoken to.
Neither of them was looking. The bell above the green door rang twice, and the whole town of Ember Creek — which had been watching since December — already knew what came next.
A warm, quietly devastating small-town romance about grief, new beginnings, and finding room in a heart you thought was already full.

I would give this a strong 4.5 stars!!
This was a breath of fresh air kind of story that completely warms your heart! Makes you want to grab a cup of coffee, snuggle up with a blanket and get lost in the story.
This takes place in a mountain town and is a heartfelt small-town romance that beautifully blends emotional healing, forgiveness, family dynamics, and the hope of second chances with new beginnings.
I loved the chemistry between the characters and how they seem so real. I loved the cozy feel of this close knit little town and how inviting it felt.
It was very uplifting, sweet love story that you won’t want to put down.
This author did an amazing job with all the feels in this book that made me just smile when I finished it.

4.5! I love mountain book romance stories..and the authors note was so special. This was a quick read but it captivated me & felt very close to home from grief to love—being hopeful and also letting go of the anticipation of disappointment! Can’t wait to meet the author next weekend.

Review of advance reader copy from the author
Ember Creek is the story of Diane’s journey of trying to move forward after losing the love of her life. She moves to a small mountain town and starts working in a book shop where she meets many of the town’s friendly and quirky residents.
Brian is the friendly handyman who has not long moved to Ember Creek to look after his grandmother. Little did he know that his world would become a much brighter place and he would truly learn the meaning of happiness once he set eyes on Diane.
This book has such a cozy vibe with found family and second chance love (and a controversial rooster #teamgerald). The slow pace of this book was a welcome change and it was great to set the healing journey both Diane and Brian go through to realise ‘fine’ is not the same as happy. It takes you on an emotional journey where by the end you will be wishing that you could move to Ember Creek 🤎🤍
Tropes:
2nd chance romance
Found family
Small town community

There’s something so comforting about this story. I absolutely loved the simplicity of it—it didn’t try to be anything other than heartfelt, and it worked perfectly.
Diane’s awkward, quirky moments (especially in the beginning with Brian 😄) were so endearing and real. And Brian? He’s the definition of a quiet, steady kind of love. He doesn’t need big, flashy gestures to show he cares—he just does, and honestly that made me love him even more.
And of course… I’m still #TeamGerald🐓 lol.
One of my favorite parts had to be the town itself. The “nosey” neighbors and friends (nosey in the best way) gave the story so much warmth. You can really feel how much they all care about each other—it made Ember Creek feel like home.
I also really appreciated Diane’s journey. Watching her realize that loving again doesn’t mean letting go of Eddie, but instead making room for something new, was so beautiful and emotional.
Such a soft, heartfelt read that leaves you feeling warm.

I got to know the author a little bit during the writing of this book and begged for an advance reader copy based on a short sample I had seen. The prose was that good. This is a lovely story and a very enjoyable read, but it is the quality of the writing that really sets it apart. If you enjoy the romance genre, read it for the story and characters. If you don’t, read it for the prose.

A warm hug after a bad day
This story is practically perfect! It is like getting a warm hug after you have had a bad day. It is quick and emotional. It’s a love story after grief! And the Rooster side story had me laughing so hard! Ding! Ding!

I love this book. The raw reality of losing someone, the wholesome process it takes to learn to love again and understanding that your heart has room for more love when you’re ready.

Couldn't get past the writing style and the formatting of the book was very distracting. Of the portion I got through, the plot wasn't believable to me so I had to stop.

Ember Creek is exactly the kind of place where someone like Diane could begin to heal. A cosy, close‑knit town where everyone knows everyone — whether you appreciate the comfort of that or occasionally wish for a little anonymity. I adored the friendships woven throughout the story; they felt genuine, supportive, and full of heart. And the slow‑burn relationship Diane finds? It’s tender, steady, and beautifully earned, the kind of connection that grows quietly until suddenly it feels impossible to imagine her life without it.

Ember Creek is such an amazing and heart warming read! The characters are so lovable, a community that makes you feel apart with every turned page, and a cozy green doored bookshop that makes you wish you could walk in and get lost amongst the aisles! Diane is trying to rebuild her life after an unimaginable loss and finds herself in a new place with colorful characters, wild town gossip, stolen glances with a handsome stranger.
While this story is about romance it is also about grief and the ability to heal beyond it. After struggling with the loss of my own loved one I saw so much of myself and my grief journey reflected in these pages. The way Diane authentically moves through her grief and gives herself space to feel it while also setting a timer to not get lost in it is so relatable.
Ember Creek was beautiful exploration of resilience, love, and healing. The authors’ notes at the end share gems of wisdom that are applicable to life beyond the page!

Ember Creek is an absolute delight. Gentle and slow-moving, it feels like a warm hug in book form.
The story follows Diane, who is recovering from grief. The novel handles this with real sensitivity, revealing details at exactly the right pace.
Ember Creek itself becomes a character in its own right, and I quickly became invested both in the romance and in the town’s efforts to bring the two leads together.
Personally, I would have liked a little more jeopardy or tension at some point in the story, but that is a very minor quibble in an otherwise highly enjoyable read. I heartily recommend it.

This book was clearly written by AI. The prose relies heavily on a small set of highly repeatable rhetorical patterns commonly seen in generative-AI fiction: frequent em-dash pivots, “not X, but Y” constructions, “the kind of person who…” comparisons, three-part rhythmic phrases, and an unusually high density of polished metaphors and emotionally insightful observations. Nearly every ordinary detail is transformed into a clever analogy or quotable line, and the narration repeatedly explains not only what the character feels, but also the psychological and symbolic meaning of the feeling. The striking consistency of these techniques across the book gives the prose a somewhat formulaic, algorithmically polished quality. Further, this is the first, self-published book by this supposed "author", which is incredibly suspicious when coupled with the aforementioned things.

🏔 Smalltown Romance
❤️ Slow Burn
🏔 Golden Retriever MMC
❤️ Black Cat FMC

🏔 Love After Grief
"Ember Creek" by Elle Laine is her debut novel releasing June 16th and when I say that she smashed this out of the ballpark, I cannot recommend this book anymore. The emotional romance pulls on the heart strings; this is an emotional romance that prepare the tissues because I had to take a minute when reading to collect myself because finding yourself after grief when it was someone you loved deeply is by far one of the hardest rollercoaster rides one can experience and Elle wrote it beautifully.
Diane is a true black cat FMC but for good reason. Finding her next chapter in her life lead her to the small town of Ember Creek and the adventures this small town gives are just what she needed. Its emotional, raw and unforgiving but this story is about forgiving ones self after loss and not living with the guilt that comes with it.
Brian struts in this meet cute moment and chooses to not only be himself, but a man who wanted to break down Diane's walls slowly to bring her to a safe place; if its with him then he wasn't minding whatsoever. He was silently there, slowing leaving breadcrumbs for us readers to crumble alongside the pages and that is a huge win for me for any MMC that is wholesome and true. He sees Diane for her and doesn’t push but slowly peel away the layers and stands beside her to show her what life is like after loss.
"Ember Creek" is a read when you are looking to find an emotionally raw deep enticing read when you have been in a reading slump and need something to break that trance. Add this book to that category because it's just that. A book that in the end, finding who you are doesn't mean forgetting the past entirely because you can be that person and now the new chapter of that same person with some sprinkle of hope in your review mirror.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
*Ember Creek* was such a sweet, cozy read.
This book follows Diane as she moves to the small town of Ember Creek after experiencing an unimaginable loss and tries to figure out what life looks like moving forward. What I loved most about this story was how realistic her healing journey felt. Her grief wasn't magically fixed by a new town or a new romance, and I appreciated that the book gave her the space to work through those emotions at her own pace.
Brian was definitely a highlight for me. He's not the super dramatic, larger-than-life type of MMC. Instead, he's patient, caring, and quietly supportive in all the ways that matter. I really enjoyed watching their relationship develop slowly throughout the story. The romance is a true slow burn, and while I personally would've loved a little more tension between them at times, their connection felt genuine and heartfelt.
The small-town atmosphere was probably my favorite part of the entire book. Ember Creek feels like a place you could actually visit, filled with quirky residents, found family, and people who genuinely care about each other. The cozy bookstore setting and strong sense of community made this such a comforting read.
Overall, this was an emotional story about grief, healing, and finding happiness again after loss. If you love small-town romances, found family, and soft, slow-burn love stories, I definitely think this one is worth picking up. While it wasn't a perfect five-star read for me, it was still a heartfelt and enjoyable debut that left me wanting to spend more time in Ember Creek.

Ember Creek completely stole my heart. This was such a wholesome, emotional romance about grief, healing, and finding your way back to happiness when life has knocked you down.
Diane and Brian were absolutely perfect together. Their journey felt so real and tender, and the slow burn romance was everything I wanted it to be. Watching two people who had both experienced loss in different ways slowly find comfort, hope, and love in each other was beautiful.
And Ember Creek itself? That town was pure magic. It felt warm, welcoming, and alive—like a character all on its own. I wanted to pack my bags and move there immediately. A whole community quietly cheering for these two before they even realized what they could be to each other? Loved that so much.
This story was heartfelt, comforting, and full of hope. A beautiful reminder that starting over doesn’t mean forgetting the past—it means allowing yourself to write a new chapter. Absolutely loved every second of it.

“Ember Creek" is the perfect cozy escape! Diane's journey of healing and self-discovery in the charming small town of Ember Creek is both heartwarming and captivating. The author paints such a vivid picture of the town, with its quirky characters, the gossipy but lovable older ladies, and even the town's beloved rooster!
The romance between Diane and Brian is tender and beautifully written. Brian's understanding and patience as Diane opens up about her past is truly touching. It's a story about finding love and a new beginning after loss, and it's handled with such care and sensitivity.

A Work of Literary Beauty
This book was like stepping into a warm bath after a cold, bitter day.
Ember Creek is literary! Extremely literary. So if you like a fast-paced genre-fiction romance, this is not for you. If, instead, you want a close-up, quiet, gorgeously-written examination of the human experience, may I please present to you this literary gem!
This book explores life after tragedy, and what it means to try and pick up the pieces of yourself in your grief. It shows a beautiful, slow, mesmerizing journey into love after profound loss.
I will be thinking about Diane and Brian for a long time after finishing this story! If you love literary books, and sentences that could be poetry, read Ember Creek today!

Ember Creek is aptly titled because without the (good natured) meddling done by the town, we wouldn’t get the story of Diane and Ethan. It was a short, cozy (closed door) romance that had a little bit of everything: a town determined to take care of its own, finding love after loss and not settling for ‘fine’, a found family that makes you want to be adopted into it, a rooster that has everyone up in arms (team Gerald, there is no other answer), and it even touches on the trauma of the loss of a loved one. I recommend Ember Creek if you’re looking for a quick read that will give you all the warm and fuzzy feelings!

Ember Creek is a beautiful story about working through grief and learning how to move forward after loss. It’s a slow-burn romance set in a small town (where the gossip is definitely alive and well). The main character moves away from her old life, taking a job at a bookstore because the memories of her late partner became too heavy. There is no spice and no language!
It’s a shorter read, but still really meaningful. Cozy, emotional, and full of found family vibes, this contemporary romance was such an enjoyable one for me.
Thank you to the author! 🫶

This book is short and sweet. It is a warm hug when nothing is wrong but you still need it. It’s cozy and comfort. It’s like asking your grandparents where it all began. It’s the feeling of sitting on the sofa, looking out the window and have the late afternoon sun shining on you. You know the kind, where is not hot but just the right amount of warmth. With the smell of lavender floating on the breeze and good glass of cold tea. A simple story of second chances and second loves, and working through the grief and learning to be yourself again.

This is the CUTEST love story, I swear. The way Diane and Brian find each other makes you believe in love again, even after going through some of life's most painful moments. The way the town supports these two is just . . . what every small mountain town must feel like. I love that we get to know the characters outside of Diane and Brian, they honestly feel like family. This is just such a good read from start to finish, one of those feel-good books that makes you smile. If you love love, enjoy gossip, and that small town feel, this is so your book. Also... Gerald!!!

I do not have words for how good this book is! The author is amazingly talented at describing feelings and places. You feel like you know these characters. I tabbed so much in this book! I loved the story. I could feel deeply the grief of the main character. I finished hoping this will be a series! This is a story about finding yourself after loss. The love story is the subplot in my opinion. If you’ve ever been through a loss you will feel this book deeply and feel renewed by it.

This is one of the most well written, emotional books I've read all year. I fell in love with the characters, the town, and yes, even the rooster.
I'll admit that this isn't my usual type of story, but I will definitely be purchasing a copy. This instantly became a favorite and will be a comfort read for years to come. I can't wait to share it with my friends.
