Last Christmas, Noelle’s boyfriend broke up with her when she thought he was going to propose.
Last Christmas, Dane’s wife asked him for a divorce, leaving this firefighter a single father to his precious twin five-year-olds.
This year, the honor of Dane Winter and Noelle Darling’s presence has been requested at the wedding of their exes . . . to each other.
With a hotel mishap, only one bed, and a weather snafu, two lonely exes make the most out of the holiday season by fake-dating each other as wedding guests and enjoying peppermint-spice worthy time when alone.
It’s only for the weekend, right?
But when emotions get a little too real, love might be the best gift to give this year.

L.B. Dunbar's "Merry eXes" is such a good book! I found this to be a wonderful holiday read. This is a fake dating, only-one-bed, vacation romance between Noelle (FMC) and Dane (MMC). Noelle thought her boyfriend was going to propose on Christmas Eve, but instead, he broke up with her. Dane is now a divorced father of two wonderful girls after splitting during the holidays. Now, one year later, they have both been invited to their former partners' weddings... to each other! The premise of this book is wonderful, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Add in a "mixed-up hotel reservation requiring Dane to share a hotel room with Noelle," two wonderful little kids who help make the Christmas season magical, and a fake-dating scheme, and you've got a recipe for disaster... and hilarity! I loved Dane and Noelle's easy banter with one another. They have circled each other for years, and Dane has liked Noelle from afar for quite some time. They aren't exactly a match made in heaven. They each have a lot of baggage; they work wildly different schedules (he's a firefighter and she's an ER nurse) and have some differing opinions about the holidays, but the chemistry between them is still so, so good. When they get stuck in the same hotel room, sparks fly and the spice is SPICIN'!! Noelle's Me-cation is sort of taken over by Dane, but when he's giving her massages and painting her nails and, well, doing OTHER activities, it's hard to be disappointed or mad about it. Despite the drama surrounding their pairing, Noelle and Dane feel like a low-drama couple. Their coupling felt easy; it felt right from the beginning. I think this book is a great length. It doesn't feel overly long and doesn't have any unnecessary tangents. I loved all of the holiday magic, the cute, festive vibes, the cozy unfurling of feelings over time, and again, great spice! Oliver Highpoint and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker give two amazing audiobook narration performances. I was unfamiliar with their work as I have not heard it before, but I enjoyed both of them here! I think they come together well to create a cohesive performance with great emotion.
Thank you to L.B. Dunbar for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.
It doesn't get any more cuter than this Christmas story, a fated perfect match made in Santa's heaven. Noelle Darling is dumped before the holidays by bf Jeremy william She foolishly agrees to attend his wedding and meets a cute single Dad Dane Winter. He's Linda's ex, the cheater Jeremy sis marrying See the coincidence!! It's adorable 5 days of Me-Cation that make them fall in love again. He has baggage — Twin daughters, not much time, different schedules, commitment problems....and an ugly pajama pant shirt All is well with 6 + 3 orgasms with a Christmas necklace lighting the way. A special, life altering experience indeed Narration by Stephanie Nemetti-Parker and Oliver Highpoint was excellent “ 4.25 stars Santa Face pancakes and angel fairy light forts ” Follow me on: Email🌻 Bookbub 🌻 Twitter🌻 Instagram🌻 Blog🌻 Facebook🌻 Amazon 🌻 TikTok 🌻 StoryGraph 🌻 YouTube 🌻
Noelle and Dane had their hearts broken a year ago at Christmas. This year, they've both been invited to the same wedding, where their exes are marrying each other. What should have been a dreadful night turns into something neither of them ever expected.
Dane has had a crush on the beautiful Noelle for a while now. Even his sister, who happens to be Noelle's friend is teasing him about it. But Noelle's walls are high and he's convinced he doesn't stand a chance. Noelle finds him ridiculously handsome, but she thinks he's just teasing her.
But when they spend a night together, their connection and chemistry become impossible to ignore. Dane would do just about anything for her and he's determined to prove just how perfect they are for each other.
What starts as a one-night stand for her ends up changing both their lives for good.
And I'll end this review with some praise for the author, who gave us one sweet, swoony romance without all the unnecessary drama. And I absolutely LOVE her for it! Because sometimes all a girl needs is a little romance, a whole lot of swoon, and ZERO unnecessary drama!

Christmas Romance Only one bed Fake dating One Weekend Single Dad Firefighter x Nurse Spicy Holiday fun Dual POV - 1st person
Dual narration - Oliver Highpoint & Stephanie Nemeth-Parker Great voices and performance.
Book #1 Winter X's and O's
This book is a perfect holiday TBR read. The characters are sweet and inviting. Noelle is having her first Christmas after being broken up with the year before and she is celebrating differently this year. Dane is recently divorced and has been flirting with Noelle for months without her taking him seriously. When these two end up at the same hotel during they end up in an "only one bed" situation and things get steamy and fun from there. No spoilers... This one is a fun and sweet, good read that I would recommend to any romance reader's holiday TBR.
Thank you L.B. Dunbar & Literally yours PR for this ALC.
This story is incredibly satisfying, romantic and the perfect holiday listen! I loved the way the narrators Oliver Highpoint and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker brought the stories to life.
Noelle Darlins is an ER nurse who was dating Dr. William Jeremy Bradley for two years and thought he was going to propose last Christmas. Instead, he broke up with her and told her he was in love with someone else. This Christmas, Noelle is invited to the wedding of her ex, and she is thinking of attending just to show him she’s moved on.
Dane Winters is a devoted single dad to his five-year-old twin daughters and is a firefighter in Chicago. Last Christmas his wife Linda asked for a divorce because she was in love with someone else. This Christmas, he is attending their wedding to support his twins through the event.
Dane and Noelle know each other through Dane’s sister Angelica who is Noelle’s best friend. They’ve been attracted to each other but never acted on it for various reasons. On the weekend of the wedding, they run into each other checking into the hotel for the event. Dane’s room was given away and suddenly he has no place to stay. Noelle offers to share her room with him when she sees the impact it will have on his daughters. They are shocked to discover that Noelle’s ex is marrying Dane’s ex! They decide to fake date and attend the wedding together.
In a shared room and a long weekend of activities, Dane and Noelle spend a lot of time together and get to know one another well. It becomes quite clear that these two were always meant to be together. Dane is a walking green flag and so dreamy. Will they be able to trust in each other and listen to their hearts? This story is a joy to read and has a wonderful ending!
I always start my L.B. Dunbar reviews by saying she's my favorite author. When she let me join her ARC team it was like Christmas came early. And this year, Christmas actually DID come early compliments of this lovely holiday romance. Now, once upon a time I was a Hallmark movie kinda holiday girl. Then I fell in love with books again, and the TV has grown cold. THIS book was that perfect holiday throwback to when Hallmark movies weren't cheesy and repetitive.
L.B. did what she does best. She welcomed us into her city for the holidays and allowed us to love, not only the sites and sounds of Chicago, but the love story that blossomed amidst the falling snow, the ice skating, Christkindmarkt, one Christmas lights necklace, and one lone ornament initially without a tree in sight. No angst, no fights, no 3rd act break-up, and even though there was infidelity, it wasn't between Noelle and Dane, and it's what made their love story all the better for the bond it created.
From "intentional" room mix-ups, to a set of the sweetest twins, to the uncertainty of an attraction that appeared to blossom overnight, this love story was amazing in it's simplicity. For me, the final line at the end of Chapter 31 was perfection!!!!! (Nope, not telling you what it was, get the book and find out for yourself, but don't skip ahead or you'll miss it!!) I absolutely recommend this one for those of you who want something a little simpler on your holiday reading list. It's the kind of love story that pairs best with fuzzy pjs, a warm fire, and a cup of hot cocoa.
My first Christmas read of 2026 and ohhh boy, it was a total five star read!
Noelle Darling an ED nurse in Chicago, last Christmas her boyfriend moved right off all of her lists - he landed right on to Santa’s and Noelle’s Naughty lists. Not that far away, Fire Chief Dane Winter was facing a similar list change….his wife asked him for a divorce. I mean really, of course the first thing I did was tuck these two close cause I could feel the shenanigans, the grief and the crazy that was about to take place when they both received invites to their exe’s wedding!
Chicago, the Christmas Elves are about to give these two a crazy weekend that will make you fan yourself, see more steam than a weekend could expect, and Serendipity along with a dose of Kismet will have you turning pages.
From their exe’s being the bride and groom, a mother-in-law whose a bit of a bother, two six year old twins who have the best daddy (Dane) in the world and a family that knows how to make you feel loved and wanted, you will be cheering for Noelle and Dane through the entire book!
I read this story in one day! You will laugh, you will tear up (I cried but I’m one of those people) and so much more! I can go on but honestly I just want your attention because you really need this book in your life and if you have read any of the Author’s Holiday backlist you will love this. Meeting old friends and new!
Merry eXe’s definitely going on my books I loved in 2026 list!
The last thing Noelle or Dane expected last Christmas was to have their partners leave them. It was worse for Dane, as he was married to his and had twins with her. Now this Christmas, they’re both attending the wedding of their exes, though they don’t know this until they meet at the hotel. Noelle and Dane know each other outside of this, and now with Dane needing a room, this may be the push to finally get them together. But Noelle knows what happens when you get together over the holidays.
Noelle and Dane get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.
These two were so great together! I do love that Dane was attempting to date Noelle before the whole wedding debacle and that his sister was encouraging it too. It was too funny that it was their exes that were getting together, and I do hope that it crashes for them, as what they did was terrible. Though, I would hate for Dane’s girls to have to go through what Noelle did growing up. It would be interesting to know if Dane’s brother continued to flirt with Noelle every time he saw them, or if it was only that first time to bug Dane as a brother would.
I received an advanced review copy from Literally Yours PR, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Noelle and Dane, I want in on your story! We're catching up with sibling Winter number 2, Dane - we met his sister Angelica in Elf-ish. Single dad, firefighter and already crushing on our FMC - winner winnner, except our Noelle here is trying to fix her broken heart when her ex did the ultimate betrayal last Christmas. Dane and Noelle know each other through Angelica, but they don't know that their exes are marrying each other and they have both been invited. I couldn't wait for them to find out and see their reaction, didn't want to put this book down, I think I could read about Dane, his girls and Noelle forever, they were the dream team! Dane is all the green flags and the way he is with this beautiful girls, its no surprise Noelle fell for him, I certainly did! A beautiful holiday read with added spice - yum!
I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own
Merry eXes, book one in the new Winter X’s & O’s series is a sweet holiday romance story that will warm your heart. I love a single dad romance trope and this story ticked all the boxes for me. Mature characters, kids, and a holiday theme to round it all out. Noelle and Dane were both dumped on Christmas Eve last year and now it appears that their exes are marrying each other one year later on Christmas Eve. Can someone say ‘awkward’? But what they find is each other and when they find themselves sharing a hotel room it gives them the perfect opportunity to test the waters. I was so happy for these two and it was a joy to be along for the ride as they found happiness and love. I also had the added benefit of listening to the audio version of this story and the narrators did an amazing job that absolutely added to my enjoyment of this book!
An absolutely delightful and steamy holiday romance! Noelle and Dane’s exes happen to be getting married and they end up going to the wedding together. He’s sweet and swoons worthy both with her and his daughters. Noelle and Dane have the perfect few days together learning about each other and exploring their hot chemistry! She is also excellent with his girls and it just makes their relationship even more wonderful! He’s wants to make sure she’s cared for and taken care of and she opens her heart up to him. Once their few days together is done they have to take their romance back to the real world and it’s honestly just as good there! A truly happy, steamy, and all around heartwarming romance!
This story was so cute. I loved how they’ve been around each other for a while, attracted to each other but, despite Dane’s attempts, Noelle never really got the memo and only gave Dane very, very little interest vibes. Together they had so much fun and oh fun. Their connection was so strong but tainted by their personal baggage, Dane was so careful with Noelle’s feelings and Noelle was incredibly brave to take a leap of faith. Dane’s twin girls were so good, giving the book some extra cuteness. Oliver Highpoint and Stephanie Nemeth Parker delivered a fantastic performance as Dane and Noelle.
I was so excited to jump into this one! This is the first in a new series and it was a great start! I always know that L.B. is going to give us mature and relatable characters and that is one thing I really love about her books.
I listened to this one. It was dual narration with Stephanie Nemeth-Parker and Oliver Highpoint. I thought they both did a great job with Noelle and Dane and bringing this story to life!
What happens when Noelle and Dane end up at the same hotel to attend their ex's holiday wedding? We end up with a one bed situation. I really loved both of their characters and how truly relatable they are. Both have careers, history, and some baggage.
We have some great banter, a low-angst romance, great spice, Christmas vibes with a one bed situation and fake dating. Overall, this was just a fun, sweet, good time and is a great holiday read. I definitely recommend you check it out if those are your vibes. Huge thank you to the author and Literally Yours PR for the early copy to listen to!
LB has brought us home for this holiday story. Filled with all of my favorite Christmas places to go in one of my favorite cities. Chicago at Christmas is the best place and time to fall in love.
One year ago, in two separate homes Noelle and Dane’s worlds changed, and not in a good way. Now that a year has passed, it’s once again the holiday season, and they find themselves thrown together for a weekend that they will never be able to forget.
Can these two see beyond the holidays and make a future together, or will they get in their own way? LB did an awesome job giving these two a chance for their HEA. With funny side characters and Chicago in the background, this story was a great way to spend an afternoon.
The perfect holiday romance. I smiled from the first word (despite the opening scene being a breakup scene, Noelle's inner monologue is funny), laughed out loud multiple times, and simply had a great time. Everything you want from a holiday romance and more.
It's the first in a new series but if you have read Holiday Hotties series, you will be pleasantly surprised with a few Easter eggs.
This book has a fun set up...their exes are getting married and through an unexpected combination of events they end up faking a relationship... it truly is a great setup for a close proximity, single dad, he has been crushing on her for a while but she missed all the signs romance.
Dane is a great book boyfriend who is nothing but green flags. Noelle has some baggage, and I was worried about a third act breakup that never happens. YAY!
The audiobook is spectacular. The narrators made me love these characters even more!
This was a fun story to kick off the holiday season. She gets dumped, he's asked for a divorce, Merry Christmas, right? Meet Noelle Darling and Dane Winter, brother of her bestie, and fast forward to the next Christmas when she gets an invite to her exes wedding. Dane offers to take her, she declines but as she checks into her fancy hotel for her me-cation guess who's there. His ex has screwed him over and he is now without a room in a fully booked hotel. Noelle to the rescue, let the fun and frolic begin. There's a wonderful cast of supportive characters led by Dane's six year old twin girls, and his great aunt Gertie who has absolutely no filter, his grandma and sister. So can supporting each other through a wedding weekend turn into a fling...... or will it be something more? I enjoyed this story.
Noelle and Dane have known each other for years since she is his sister's best friend. Both have had a little crush on the other but never acted on it. This Christmas they run into each other at a wedding, for their exes. They decide to fake date to get through it. Lots of moments that feel too real happen. Their chemistry and banter was great.
This book is an absolutely beautiful, spicy, sweet, and loving Christmas story. I loved it so much!
Dane, his adorable little girls, and Noelle wove their way into my heart with no resistance. This is such a heartwarming holiday book, but the holiday isn’t really the focus. It just happens to be the time of year that the book is set in.
Oliver Highpoint and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker did a beautiful job with this dual narration.
Listening notes: Now THAT is what I call a “Me-cation” The Christmas themed “curses” are hilarious Will/Jeremy and Linda can suck it.
Definitely a recommend for anyone who loves romance, Christmas, no third act breakups, and just deep connection.
This one has: 🎄a holiday wedding ❄️one weekend 🎄one bed ❄️fake dates 🎄single dad firefighter x ER nurse ❄️spicy holiday shenanigans
I was interested because of the blurb and the tropes, but I think I had a bit different expectations. The writing and the storyline were okay but just that. It didn’t make me very excited, to be honest. I couldn’t fully connect with the characters. There was nothing particularly wrong, more of a “not for me” case.
The audio was great, but again, just that. Narrated by Stephanie Nemetti-Parker and Oliver Highpoint. Audio length: 7,5h I was able to listen with my usual speed of 2.0x even bumping it to 2.3 mid-listen. Both narrators did well but I wasn’t obsessed with the narration.
Dual POV, 1st person narration, 250 pages
Thanks L.B. Dunbar and Literally Yours PR for eARC+ALC
Who would have thought?? It was all the same wedding . . . .
The holidays last year weren’t too great for Noelle or Dane. At her boyfriend Jeremy’s family party in downtown Chicago, wearing an uncomfortable dress and shoes he insisted on, expecting to be a fiancé by the end of the night, Jeremy instead tells her he’s breaking up with her and that he didn’t expect it to happen. When Noelle asks what he says, “I fell in love.” Wow. Harsh. Tells you all you need to know about him, doesn’t it? Dane was at home with his wife Linda and their five-year-old twin daughter Gracie and Gloria, gazing at the un-messy fake tree Linda always insisted on, holding an orange juice-champagne mimosa made to Linda’s exacting specifications when Linda said, “I want a divorce.” When he replies it’s Christmas, maybe not a good time for this discussion, she says she didn’t mean to blurt it out like that but she couldn’t wait another second. When he questions her more, SHE says, “It’s Christmas.” Yeah, that’s harsh too, and tells you all you need to know about her.
A year has passed; Dane and Linda were “amicably” divorced and they are co-parenting “amicably” – and Linda seems to be in charge of just what that word means. Noelle hasn’t seen or spoken to Jeremy. Both Dane and Noelle have more or less moved on; Dane’s marriage was the product of friends-with-benefits – emphasis on the benefits – that resulted in their daughters. No burning passion or soulmates, but Dane thought they had agreed to give it their best and talk it out if it wasn’t working. Guess Linda had her own definition for that as well. Noelle had started to wonder what she and Jeremy actually had in common, but she didn’t question his fidelity – and he had asked her to move to Chicago to be with him. Well, ‘be’ with him except not ‘live’ with him; she’s too chaotic and disorganized. So maybe they both dodged bullets but hurt and humiliation still sting for a long time.
Ho ho ho – holiday time again, and both Dane and Noelle have been invited to weddings. Dane because Linda wants him to babysit the girls, Noelle because big shot doctor Jeremy invited everyone in the hospital department and she just happens to be on that list. Dane RSVPs yes because he always wants more time with the girls; Noelle waffles but is encouraged by Angelica and her other friends to go for her own benefit, to make a clear statement that she is just fine without Jeremy. Noelle and Dane already know each other casually because he is Angelica’s brother, but they aren’t really friends and it seems a little weird that they are both standing at the hotel check-in desk, until she overhears as Dane learns that Linda didn’t really reserve a room for him as she said; the room is for her parents to stay with the girls, but oh, yes, he’s still expected to babysit. Wait, who’s getting married? Will and Linda, except Will was always known as Jeremy to Noelle; their exes are getting married – and Dane doesn’t have a room for the weekend.
In one of those reckless, impulsive, speak-before-you-think acts, Noelle pretends she and Dane are together and of course they’ll be staying in her room. It just might be the best spur-of-the-moment thing she’s ever done. Dane has been flirting with her for months, but she’s been oblivious. Her self-confidence took quite a hit from her time with Jeremy/Will and being dumped and it never occurs to her that someone might be interested. Over the course of the weekend filled with dinner before a romantic stroll down Michigan Avenue, a late-night swim, ice skating (with the girls), hot chocolate, holiday market, spa treatments, sweet kisses and other stuff, Noelle realizes her intended me-cation has turned into something other than an individual celebration with this attentive, kind, funny, flirty man too sexy for her own good. And despite doubting her own judgement and being scared of another failed relationship she has enjoyed every minute of this weekend.
Merry eXes is sweet and spicy and so romantic. Surprising and funny, filled with (well, with the exception of 2) people who are good, generous, warm and caring. We already know Angelica from Elf-ish, part of Dunbar’s Holiday Hotties series, so we know her and Dane’s big, quirky family and get to spend a lot of very enjoyable time with them. For two people so anxious to dump their partners a year ago, Jeremy/Will (who I always thought of as Jack, maybe Jack _ _ _ ?) keeps wanting ‘just five minutes’ with Noelle and Linda seems pretty grumpy whenever Noelle and Dane are together. Good – may they live miserably ever after. I received advance reading and listening copies of Merry eXes from the author and the immersive reading/listening experience was sublime because of dual narration by Oliver Highpoint and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker. Highpoint is perfect as Dane: exasperated, droll, hurt, tender, warm, caring, yearning. Nemeth-Parker as always is reliably outstanding and versatile. Noelle is strong, capable and attractive and Nemeth-Parker shows you all that, but she also shows the vulnerability and the uncertainty and the growing hope and joy. I loved this book. Dunbar excels at writing characters who don’t think of age 40 as old age but instead portrays them as vibrant, experienced, desirable who have lived a lot of life. I recommend Merry eXes without hesitation and suggest you read all of Dunbar’s backlist. I can’t wait for the next book in this entertaining Winter Xs and Os series. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.
Merry eXe's is the perfect addition to your holiday TBR if you're looking for a sweet, low-angst, feel-good Christmas romance! L.B. Dunbar delivers a fun premise with two people who both got their hearts broken by their exes, only to find themselves attending their exes’ wedding together. Because apparently, one wedding wasn't enough holiday drama! I loved how Dane and Noelle found comfort in each other and slowly discovered that maybe their past relationships had made room for something even better.
The fake dating, one-bed situation, and forced proximity made this such an entertaining festive read. Dane is a single dad and firefighter, while Noelle is an ER nurse, and I really enjoyed seeing their connection develop over the course of the weekend. Their chemistry was sweet, the romance felt natural, and the story had that cozy, comforting atmosphere that makes holiday romances so enjoyable. I also loved the little family forming around them. Those moments added an extra layer of warmth and made me root for them even more.
What I especially appreciated was how easy this book was to sink into. It's a low-angst romance with just enough spice, plenty of Christmas vibes, and two characters who deserve a fresh start after being let down by the people they thought they'd spend their lives with. Sometimes, you don't need complicated drama or endless misunderstandings. Just two lovely characters, a festive setting, and a little holiday magic!

The audiobook was spectacular, and their performances made me love these characters even more. They complemented each other really well and made the whole listening experience feel warm, engaging, and entertaining. This is definitely the kind of holiday romance that works wonderfully in audio!

Final Thoughts
Merry eXe's is a sweet, festive, and feel-good romance that delivers exactly what I want from a holiday read. I loved Dane and Noelle together, their easy connection, and the way they found something good after both experiencing heartbreak. The fake dating and one-bed tropes made the story extra fun, while the growing sense of family gave it that little bit of extra warmth.
Combined with the fantastic audiobook narration, this was a lovely start to the Winter Xs & Os series. If you're looking for a cozy Christmas romance with a single dad, fake dating, a little spice, and a happy ending, this one deserves a spot on your holiday TBR!
Turns out, the best Christmas gift isn't under the tree. Sometimes, it's your fake date at your ex's wedding.
Another L.B. Dunbar book, another reason why I love her romances! She really knows how to write love stories about people over 40, with both main characters being in their forties!!
Last Christmas, Noelle expected a marriage proposal, not a breakup. Dane expected to spend Christmas with his family, not be asked for a divorce. And this Christmas… Well, their exes are getting married to each other! Talk about an unexpected holiday reunion!
Noelle and Dane’s relationship was sweet, fun, and oh-so-spicy! The chemistry, the fake dating, one-bed situation, and forced proximity only made things better. I also liked that they wanted each other beyond the physical attraction.
Dane, a firefighter, was such a wonderful man. He wanted Noelle, a nurse, as his lover and his friend, and he wanted everything that came with her. He was careful with her feelings, never pushing her to make decisions before she was ready, but making it clear that he wanted to be part of her life. And the way he trusted her with his daughters... Noelle understood how important it was to be careful with the girls, having grown up with divorce and remarriages herself.
They tried to make up for all the time they hadn't spent together. Dinner, walks, meeting the girls, the wedding... they almost squeezed months of dates into one weekend, and Dane still wanted more time. And Noelle wanted to be alert for every last second with him.
And the spice... WOW! Let's just say L.B. Dunbar did not hold back! Their chemistry was one thing, but the actual spicy scenes? HOT, HOT, HOT!
As for the audio, Oliver Highpoint and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker were fantastic! Just fantastic!!! I absolutely loved their performances. They brought Noelle and Dane's personalities, emotions, chemistry, and all those deliciously spicy moments to life. The sensuality, the spice… I loved every minute of listening! Literally!!! It was perfect.
A fun, sweet, steamy Christmas romance with mature characters, wonderful chemistry, adorable little girls, and two people who deserved a much better Christmas last year. This year, they got exactly what they needed! A second chance romance with the right person!!
L.B. Dunbar is an instant read for me. Every time I get a new book of hers I know I'm going to fall in love with her characters, smile like crazy, swoon, laugh, have some emotional moments but will always be left with beautiful happily ever afters. I listened to this one in a day because I couldn't stop listening to it. This story pulled me in and wouldn't let me go.
The narrators were Oliver Highpoint & Stephanie Németh-Parker. These two did a fantastic job telling Noelle & Dane's story! They made me feel connected to the characters, held my attention and kept me entertained the entire time I was listening to this book.
Noelle was such a sweet character and you will love her right away. Last Christmas she thinks she's going to get engaged instead he breaks up with her. Now this year she gets an invitation to his wedding!
OH DANE!! This man was the sweetest and the best dad! Last Christmas his wife told him she wants a divorce. Now they share custody of their twin daughters. Oh the love he has for his daughters will melt your heart!
Now Dane & Noelle find themselves invited to their exes wedding and decide to go together and before you know it sparks start to fly! This book was so much fun and I just loved everything about it! Dane & Noelle had the perfect chemistry and I love how she took to the girls so easily. This book will wrap you in a big hug and make you believe in second chances!!
Thank you L.B. Dunbar & Literally Yours PR for allowing me to listen to this ALC for my honest opinion.
I loved Noelle and Dane! These two were such a joy to read. Noelle, an ER nurse, and Dane, a firefighter, already know each other through Dane's sister, who is Noelle's friend. Last Christmas, Noelle was heartbroken when her boyfriend ended things just when she expected a proposal. Around the same time, Dane's marriage fell apart, leaving him a single dad to five-year-old twins.
A year later, they both attend the wedding of their former partners, only to discover their exes are marrying each other! That twist, plus a hotel mishap, leads them to pretend to be dating. What starts as a convenient arrangement soon becomes something neither expected as the line between pretend and real starts to blur.
Their chemistry was fantastic, and I loved watching two people who had been hurt find comfort and a little magic in each other. Dane completely stole my heart, especially as a dad opening himself up to love again. Noelle was lovely too, and I enjoyed seeing her move past her heartbreak and realise she deserved so much more. The festive atmosphere was the cherry on top, and the exes-marrying-each-other twist made for plenty of fun, romance, and swoony moments. LB Dunbar did a wonderful job bringing it all to life.
If you love Christmas romance, fake dating, a single dad, and two people finding love when they thought their chance had passed, Merry eXes is definitely one to add to your list.
Loved this story! Great start to a series This is book 1 of the Winter Xs and Os series and has Noelle and Dane together at Christmas. After both having their partners leave them last year over the Christmas period they find themselves unexpectedly together this year. Both attending a wedding which they later realise is between both of their exes. The fun starts when they end up staying in the same room after a hotel mix up, then when Noelle comes face to face with the groom to be (her ex) Dane and her end up convincing him they are fake dating. It’s definitely no hardship for Dane as he has wanted to date her for a while now. This story is funny, steamy, also cute, with Dane’s twin 6 year old girls adding to the cuteness factor. I loved how Dane was with his girls and the way he treated Noelle, knowing that a weekend never was going to be enough for him. He wanted all of her. Now he just had to convince Noelle of that. Such a gorgeous, feel good, spicy Christmas romance that I absolutely loved. I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Oliver Highpoint and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker loving their performances. They were the perfect choice for their roles, playing their parts to perfection. I loved the story, the characters and the narration. Thank you L B Dunbar and Literally Yours PR for the opportunity to listen to this wonderful audiobook.
What a perfect read to get into the holiday mood! I love when the main characters have a name that reminds you of Christmas and Noelle did just that!
Noelle and Dane have both had a bad holiday season the year before they end up attending their exes wedding together. They know each other since they run in the same circles, but chance puts them at their exes wedding together and Noelle helps Dane out. What she doesn't realize is that it will open an incredible door for her!
I loved these two. They have truly had bad relationships with selfish people and when they find each other, Noelle can't help but think she is temporary. Dane never sees her that way. He has wanted to get to know her for a long time since Noelle is a friend of his sisters. These two fall fast and hard for each other during the holiday season and I loved it! It wasn't an overly emotional book but just the perfect amount of falling in love for the holiday season.
I adored Dane and the man that he is and I loved how he really made Noelle feel special.
I listened to this book narrated by Olive Highpoint and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker. This is the first time I had listened to either of them, but I really enjoyed their narration. I thought they did a great job bringing this story to life and really conveying the feelings that the characters were having. It was well done.
Merry eXes is a wonderful start to the new series, Winter Xs and Os, by L.B. Dunbar. I truly enjoyed partaking in this sweet, holiday romance that hits the right notes for the holidays.
Facing the holidays is difficult and chaotic then you add the heartbreak experienced during the time of year when it's supposed to be joyous dims the lights for both Noelle and Dane. They both are attracted to each other, but boundaries and life didn't allow for more between them. An unplanned encounter leads to an opportunity they both decide to grab for themselves while standing for the other when they needed it most. Dane sharing the holiday experience in Chicago with Noelle is such an adorable reflection of his generous personality where he shares his hometown and the hidden treasures with the person who is becoming to mean more to him then he was expecting. There is plenty of fun, humor and endearing moments mixed with plenty of spice to keep you warm on a cold night. Add in the precious two twin daughters and its makes for the perfect family.
I certainly recommend you step into the holidays early with this entertaining page turner of a story.
I received an early copy and I'm sharing my voluntary opinion.
I received an ARC copy of this book from L.B. Dunbar. The first two chapters were hard to read. Four adults and two twin girls lives were upended at Christmas time because of choices made by two adults. One proposal was dropped and another marriage ended leaving a single dad with twin girls. The irony of the story is the man who broke the proposal and the woman who asked for a divorce ended up engaged and while planning their wedding invited the ones they left! Most of the book happens at the hotel where the wedding is happening. The firefighter and the ER nurse meet at the hotel not knowing their significant others were the ones getting married and the nurse, Noelle saves Dane from his ex family's mishaps. I really loved Dane and Noelle's adventures and the two twins were funny! There were ups and downs but in the end I was glad to see the HEA. One thing I would have liked to know is when Jeremy, the one who broke the proposal, asked to speak to Noelle privately at the motel two separate times, we never read what he wanted to tell her. I just wanted to know. He never gave her a definate reason for breaking the proposal except "he fell in love". This is another great read and I enjoyed it. #LBDunbar
Both Noelle and Dane are both dumped on Christmas Eve, but what they don't know is that their exes were seeing each other. Now a year later the Exes are getting married and both Noelle and Dane are invited to that wedding.
Now thanks to Dane's ex wife, he doesn't have a hotel room.
When a weekend wedding event turns into more.
This romcom will definitely start your holiday reads off to a great start.
Noelle is a strong woman who wants to use this weekend as a me cation. But when she offers her room to Dane, she doesn't want to have a repeat of the vacation in which she met her ex.
Dane is such a girl dad who will do anything for his girls to be happy. Including dealing the antics of his ex, which causes him to share a room with Noelle, whom he's been flirting with and constantly asking out for the past several months.
Loved how Dane tries bring out the holiday spirit in Noelle. From the ice skating with his girls to the holiday market. And the spa day in the hotel room that he does for Noelle is just perfect.
Loved seeing that Winter family, Aunt Gertie and Gran.... now what's going on with Beau Winter....
This is definitely a cozy up with a good book read
