I received this book as an ARC.
Are you freaking kidding me?! A perfect romance read! And from a debut author!!! I think I smiled like a goofball for 50% of this book. Gorgeous writing—the food descriptions you could taste, the romance that felt real and hot at the same time, messy but likable characters! I hope everyone reads this book. It’ll be a perfect summer read (but somehow also a delightful cozy book for fall/winter)! If I’m pitching, I’d call it Gilmore Girls meets Top Chef with a dash of Northern Exposure and make it sexy.

A polished, assured debut, with a vivid and relatable heroine who leaps off the page. I read this in one obsessed day, and enjoyed every minute of it. For fans of Sophie Cousens, Kristan Higgins, and Beth O’Leary, or anyone who wants a good book to read!

This book should be made into a movie! It’s a perfect little rom-com. The writing is so vivid and vibrant. I felt like I was right there on the island with Chloe, making bad decisions and trying to figure out life. I’m telling all my friends to read this book!

When a job opportunity in the middle of Winter- in Maine- comes to fruition, Chloe is trying to figure out what her life really is. Did she want to be a personal chef? No. Absolutely Not. But what other choices does she have after the mistakes she has made?
Charlie is a Hollywood heartthrob that's taking a break from the acting scene. He knows about Chloe from her sister, and hires her to be his personal chef for three months while he takes a breather from it all.. But is that all this is for him? Is Chloe everything he's been searching for?
Ben is a local lobsterman, who knows seafood. knows the local town. and knows the way to Chloe's heart- through her stomach. But he's looking for something more, will that be Chloe?
Chloe has choices to make. Does she go for her career? Does she want the company of the local lobsterman? Does she want the Hollywood actor? Why does to find herself in the center of a Love Triangle, when she should be concentrating on herself?
I wanted to love this story- especially because the final few chapters made me happy. But it took until the final few chapters- for me to be happy. Chloe made me want to rip my hair out. I didn't agree with any of her decisions until the last few chapters. She made me frustrated and angry (and lets be honest- if she was my sister, I would have kicked her butt.) I loved Ben. He was my favorite of this entire story- and I was really hoping for a better outcome- but we got what we got.
The one great thing about this book though- The food! I wanted to act like Julia Childs in the kitchen, because her food choices and style and decisions were that fantastic.
And although this book wasn't necessarily for me, it may be for someone else.

I really enjoyed this novel. I thought that the characters had depth and the storyline was interesting enough to hold my attention from beginning to end.

Chloe has been so committed to her work and her career for so long. It’s been her driving focus. But now in Maine, she begins to question those original ideas. A new place offers new perspective.
During her time in Maine, she also meets a lobsterman, Ben, and their connection is instant and natural. It’s also human. I enjoyed reading the build of their relationship over the course of the novel.
I found her story to be one of reminding yourself of the why. The why of the decision of your profession. The why of our values and how crucial it is to stay true to our values.
Maine marks new beginnings for Chloe in so many ways. She finds connection and the beginnings of a new relationship and remembers why she loves cooking and being a chef. We see her rewrite her story in want she wants in life and who she wants to be, where she wants to be and with whom she wants to share and continue to build her life.
She learns, grows and heals. Chloe is on a journey of discovery. We see the successes as well as the mistakes. Her journey is human, and we see how she learns from the mistakes to keep moving forward.
I enjoyed this book! It’s reflective as well as fun! I also thought the descriptions of cooking, creating dishes, thinking of new recipes, and building a new restaurant quite vivid. It helps us understand how challenging and intense the restaurant industry is. I think it’s a great read for your summer holidays!

This is Jess Turner's debut novel and what a start!!! I absolutely loved this story! It was a perfect read for this time of year.
It starts with Chloe losing her job as a high end, well sort after chef, after making a terrible decision. To get away from the situation her sister gets her a job as a personal chef to a Hollywood actor on a small island called Deer Haven. Once on the small, remote island Chloe has time to reflect on her life and decide whether she has to make changes. And, of course, it wouldn't be a contemporary romance if there weren't 2 guys that pique her interest, Charlie the actor and Ben the lobsterman!!
Chloe has to decide what she wants which doesn't come easy for her. Does she choose happiness or success? Can she have both?
I loved this book! It kept me engaged and I became invested in Chloe's life and willing her to make the best/right decisions (which she didn't always make!)
The depictions of strong women is this book was refreshing and so well written! The descriptions of the food were so detailed, they had my mouth watering on many occasions!
Chloe was frustrating sometimes with her indecisiveness but that only spurred me on to read till the end!
Would definitely recommend this to people who love a good food based romance. Perfect for this time of year.
I will definitely be looking out for what comes next from Jess Turner!

I really enjoyed The Only Catch and found it to be a charming, easy to read romance with plenty of heart. Chloe was an easy character to root for, and I especially loved Ben. Their connection felt warm and cozy, and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop against the backdrop of such a beautiful coastal setting. I didn’t have the same feels towards Charlie he had more baggage with immaturity and cockiness not on his side.
The Maine island atmosphere was one of my favourite parts of the book. The author does a wonderful job bringing the small-town community to life, and the food and culinary elements added an extra layer of warmth and comfort to the story. I could easily picture the scenery, which made it a perfect escapist read.
The romance itself was sweet and engaging. While the spice level is fairly mild, I thought it suited the story well. I’m not someone who avoids spice, but I appreciated the more subtle approach here because it allowed the emotional connection and character development to take centre stage.
I also enjoyed the mix of romance, self-discovery, and fresh starts. Chloe’s journey felt relatable, and the supporting cast helped create a welcoming, close-knit atmosphere. Fans of love triangles, small town romance, coastal settings, and foodie romances will likely find a lot to enjoy.

The overall vibe of this book was cosy and comforting. Think small-town romance, emotional character journeys, and food descriptions that will absolutely make you hungry while reading.
I’m usually not a huge love triangle person, but this one genuinely kept me guessing about who Chloe would end up with. Chloe, Ben, and Charlie all felt very real because of their individual struggles, and I appreciated how human and relatable they were.
One of my favourite parts was definitely Chloe’s recipes and all the food moments throughout the story. Everything sounded delicious. And honestly, I kept feeling bad for Charlie because he couldn’t enjoy most of it.
While the pacing was slower than what I usually gravitate towards, I still enjoyed the cosy atmosphere and immersive third-person storytelling. I personally wanted a little more emotional tension and drama to completely hook me, but I can definitely see this working well for readers who love slower, character-focused romances.

Only, she can't even admit to herself that she may desire something and someone different than what she's always strived for. She puts her career as a chef above all else - except for the side dish that causes her job (and her life as she knows it in Chicago) to fall apart.
That's how Chloe finds herself on Deer Haven. In winter. Not exactly the most picturesque time of year to find yourself on an island off the coast of Maine. That doesn't stop Chloe from finding ways to keep herself warm. Charlie or Ben? (Those ways I mentioned she stays warm? Well, they come in the form of good looking men.) Chicago or Deer Haven or even LA? Full control over her own restaurant or the uncertainty of something completely different?

And while those choices showed the progress of her journey, there were a couple of times when I wanted to shake her and ask what she was doing. I didn't like her choices but I did understand that these had been necessary for her character development. Nobody said figuring out our life and future was easy after all.
I did love the fact that the romance was more focused on building that connection between the characters. This along with the overall small town community life created that cosy and charming aspect of the story that I really loved. The vivid descriptions and writing added on to the beauty of this book.

So many things drew me to this book. First off, Chloe is a chef. I’m always intrigued about books related to the restaurant industry. And the fact that this book takes place in Maine. Being a New Englander myself I always feel at home reading books set in my neck of the woods.
There’s a lot of female empowerment in this book. There’s a lot of mention of female chefs and women in places of ‘power’ in the restaurant industry. Even seeing that, there’s still plenty of negativity towards women also. Chloe is blackballed for making poor decisions in her personal life. It didn’t matter how talented she was, she pissed off the wrong person and she was suddenly unhirable.
I loved Jess’ food descriptions. How she went into detail about how Chloe plated her dishes and all the things she cooked throughout the book. I could picture everything thanks to the great detail.
I found Chloe frustrating. So many things she does in this story make me angry. It’s like she has no self control. I don’t agree with a lot of her choices.

A light and fun summer read by a local author! Chloe is a renowned chef who has total control over her work at a Chicago restaurant, but not necessarily in other aspects of her life. Simply put, she’s messy, and it’s time to wade through the mess. With a nudge from her sister (who has it together and has some connections), she embarks on a journey that brings her to an island off the coast of Maine. Chloe is surprised to find that she’s more comfortable than she expects (wants?) to be in this tiny coastal community. She finds that she’s not as alone as she thought, both here and in life.
Jess Turner has a real knack for descriptions, which made this book extra enjoyable for me. A few passages that described the landscape of Maine and Vermont (where Chloe visits her family) throughout the various states of winter jumped off the page for this Vermonter/Maine lover. The way she describes Chloe’s and Ben’s food/cooking processes is *chef’s kiss* and at one point even sent me to the stove to make popcorn with brown butter. My partner was happy, so he liked this book too, without even reading it. This is definitely worth checking out and I’m looking forward to reading Jess’ next book!

From the very beginning, I was drawn in by Chloe and found myself rooting for her as she tried to rebuild both her career and her confidence. The characters were wonderfully developed, and I loved watching their relationships unfold. Whether it was the quiet charm of the Maine island setting, the complicated Hollywood heartthrob, or the rugged local lobsterman, every character added something special to the story.
The writing was warm, engaging and incredibly immersive. One of my favorite aspects was the food. As a chef, Chloe's passion comes through on every page, and her meal descriptions are absolutely mouthwatering. I honestly found myself craving buttery lobster, homemade comfort food, and just about everything that came out of her kitchen!
This is the perfect blend of romance, self-discovery, and second chances, all set against a cozy winter backdrop. If you enjoy character-driven romances with heart, humor and plenty of delicious food, I highly recommend picking this one up.

I really enjoyed reading The Only Catch. I liked the place where Chloe’s character ended up going to in Maine. The feel of the area was captivating. Something about the New England area always gives you a good feel. ( I was born in Massachusetts)
I liked Chloe’s character, although she could be difficult at times. Being a chef isn’t always easy. There’s a lot that goes into it. I went to a vocational high school and I did culinary and I had thought it was going to be easy but goodness I was wrong.
She goes to a remote island that’s off the coast of Maine, where she becomes a chef for Charlie Davis. He’s a heartthrob who’s clean eating. I feel as though this change of pace and scenery is exactly what Chloe needed. Chloe meets local lobster fisherman Ben, who’s got quite the smile.

I love the setting of Deer Haven, I find romances set in small north east American towns always seem super cute. Deer Haven definitely lives up to that, especially seeing it over the winter period.
I found Chloe, the main female character, incredibly unlikeable, I just wanted to shake her constantly! She clearly had something that she needed to resolve, and I dont feel like we saw that happen, despite the outcome of the story.
I loved most of the side characters, Julia with her no-nonsense attitude who just spoke so much truth and was so devoted to those she loved. Janey, the wisened islander who just knew what everyone needed. Ben, the sweetheart lobster-man with the floppy hair, he just oozed manly energy and sounded like a great book-boyfriend!

I'm really not sure what to make of this book. Chloe was generally hard to root for because by the age of 35 you'd hope she'd have outgrown her impulsivity and self- sabotaging tendencies, but I wanted her to not only succeed but truly be happy. In that respect, I applaud the well-written, complex character development, but it did make it harder to root for her as a (very messy) romantic lead. Charlie and Ben were both so lovely in their own ways, and I will admit that it was a very lopsided love triangle, but a love triangle all the same. I want the very best lives for both Ben and Charlie.
This was an entertaining read but it left me feeling confused about how I should feel about the outcome and characters.
This book is not for anyone who is uncomfortable with themes of infidelity or romantic leads having encounters with others during the story.

this book felt like summer and winter all wrapped up in one, and i think others would agree. it also reminded me of home, cape breton island, with it’s fishing season and snowy landscape. it even mentioned nova scotia! this book revolves around our main character, chloe, and her messy relationships. after leaving her job in chicago ( not by choice! ) she takes on a private chef gig in maine. there she meets a very handsome lobsterman and a movie star. it was super fun reading about her relationships with both of these men and seeing where it would lead. this book is jess turners debut novel, and i would 100% read more of her. ☺️

This is one of those books where the well written descriptions of the food became the primary plot line… and the romance was an afterthought for me.
There was potential for Chloe to be a great main character in the beginning of the book. Sure, she messed up royally and had some major flaws, but she seemed endearing with her budding romance with Ben. And then she wasn’t. Her self sabotage was painful to read about and by the end of the book I started to think that Ben deserved a lot better.
I may have come for the romance, but I sure stayed for the food. This book makes me want to go back to Chicago AND Maine for their amazing food scenes and mouth watering dishes.

The Only Catch follows chef Chloe Foster who, after a scandal at work, becomes a private chef for celebrity Charlie Davis. Chloe hopes that this will be an opportunity to figure out what she wants and where she'd like her future to go and is infuriated along the way to discover that Charlie Davis doesn't even EAT good food. She also meets a handsome lobster fisherman in town that is very VERY into her. So, it's not all bad.
The Only Catch is a book about second chances, allowing yourself to change, and taking risks to do what's best for yourself. It has fantastic characters, a few fun twists, and a lovely setting. It's also got some spice which, honestly, we all love, don't we?

This was a cute book! One of my favorite parts was all of the food. Every dish Chloe made sounded incredible and it made my mouth water as I was reading. Now I really want to eat at a restaurant where Chloe is the chef. 😂
The romance was sweet, but if I'm being honest, I spent most of the book rooting for Chloe and Charlie. I wasn't a huge fan of Ben, even though I did enjoy their love story. Their relationship felt a little rushed to me and I kept hoping the ending would somehow bring Chloe and Charlie together instead.
Overall, this was such a cute book with great good & a cozy setting!

The Only Catch was the perfect escape read. I’m not usually a third-person narration girlie, but I’m so glad I pushed through because the descriptive writing completely won me over. The food, OMG the food, I was drooling ha. The snowy coastal setting, the atmosphere, it all felt so real. And the love triangle? Messy, complicated, and absolutely delicious. This story served up heartbreak, healing, and romance, and now I’m craving lobster rolls and the lobsterman who catches them.

I just want to start out by saying that The Only Catch has a gorgeous cover and the plot really drew me in.
This is about Chloe, who is a chef that gets canceled and has to take some time away from the city she loves. She ends up being a personal chef for Charlie, who is an actor. She also meets a fisherman and now she has to make a choice about which man she wants.
I liked a lot of the book. I liked the island in Maine and the descriptions of food and how it was easy to read, but there were a few things that really bothered me. First Chloe, her character was really annoying and her character did very little growing throughout the book. I didn’t feel like the connections between the two men were that strong and the ending felt rushed. I also don’t think Chloe deserved any of them, especially Ben.
