Thank you so very much to L.Q Lark for sending me a copy of the Whispers of Rage ARC! This was a WILD ride full of twists and turns that I did not see coming. Every turn of the page had me on the edge of my seat, not knowing what was going to happen next. I was firmly buckled in for the ride and was ecstatic to go on this journey with the characters I had grown fond of from the previous book, World of Ruin.

𓊝 As fans of fantasy, we have been spoilt rotten by how teeming this world is, or should I say worlds, with magic and wonder. From different members of the Fae, to sentient ships that require no crew or captain to sail the open seas (Kiku, my Shayla). This world has all the enchanted flora, fauna and wildlife you could ever imagine and a storyline that spans multiple awe-inspiring worlds that are connected by magic portals. There is so much more that I want to talk about, but as I don’t want to spoil anything, I will refrain, with great difficulty I might add. What I will say is, that just when you think we have reached the limit of what this world has to offer, we are gifted with many surprises that have me reeling.

𓊝 There was a big odyssey feeling to this book. The characters embark on their own individual journeys that test not only themselves, but the bonds they share as well. I really enjoy when characters recognise that they have a lot to learn and overcome and commit to making these changes, even if the decision is difficult, and the passage is arduous. The found family trope stays strong through Whispers of Rage as it did in World of Ruin, but there are some bumps along the road. Some characters really surprised me and kept the narrative fresh. I saw some people in a new light, and grew even closer to others. I still remain one of Cleo’s biggest fans. I simultaneously fear her and love her. My personal favourite part of the book is Cleo and Alasia’s friendship. I feel like they understand each other on such a fundamental level, and no one else would have been as perfect for Alasia’s journey.

𓊝 The exploration of villains is one that really intrigues me. Whispers of Rage delves into the intricacies of what makes someone a villain. This book leans into the events of what may darken someone’s soul and turn them onto the path of vengeance and harm. It kind of broke my heart in this way, because it lifts that curtain in a sense, the villain isn’t some faceless evil lacking motive or conviction, aside from the “I’m bad just because I can”, that we often see in the media. These were real people. People that have suffered at the hands of others and are victims themselves. Does this absolve them of any guilt or wrongdoing? No. But it lets us dive deeper into who they are on a cellular level, and even sympathise with them. It also begs the question: what is the difference between the sins conducted by someone who was just trying to survive and the wrongdoing of someone truly evil?

𓊝 Whispers of Rage has the audacity to drop one of the hardest lines I have ever read in a fantasy novel ever. I am dancing around in this review trying not to spoil it, but simultaneously trying to show off all the amazing things in this book. I do believe these things have a much more profound effect when we encounter them organically. So just know that the writing delivers in this regard!

𓊝 This novel has a lot of memorable moments. We dance across the worlds of Whispers of Rage through the eyes of multiple people. The pacing is well-balanced and the perspectives fresh and enjoyable. I was excited when I flipped to a new chapter and saw a new point of view, or that we were shifting perspectives. These worlds are vast, and we get to experience the nitty, gritty details of each one through the characters along their journeys. There is a lot going on, but I believe this keeps the narrative moving and doesn’t feel overwhelming. The switching from person to person is like a mini cliffhanger each time, and this keeps the stakes high. Much like in World of Ruin, the lore and world building is deep and expansive. Not only do we build upon the lore introduced in the first book, we are enticed across the pages with new and developing legends and history.

𓊝 Whispers of Rage feels like an ode to all fantasy lovers. It has the perfect mix of fantasy and romance. If anything, it leans more on the fantastical elements which I really enjoyed. There is all the slow burn you could ever want, with enough magic to leave you feeling enchanted. This is a book on the longer side, so you can really settle into this world and live inside it. The characters are lovable, the political tension is high. Whispers of Rage has it all! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves the heart of a rebellion, the soul of people standing up against their oppressors and the fearlessness of characters falling in love in the face of it all.

Thank you L.Q. Lark for sending this ARC. This review is voluntary; all opinions are my own.

Rating: 4.5/5

“Being strong isn’t holding in your tears. Strength is knowing when to take a minute to mourn, to heal, to cry and then getting back up to fight again. [...] It’s not the river that drowns you, but when you keep yourself submerged.”

Oh wow, this sequel was so satisfying! It’s a great continuation of the worldbuilding, the plot (right from where we left off in World of Ruin), and the romance. It answers lots of questions held over from the first book, while still leaving lots left to explore. The characters really were split all over the map and then some, and with the multiple POVs we got to see so much! The biggest draws for me were the expansion on the lore, the epic battles, and that gut-wrenching cliffhanger!

We learned truths about some characters, saw betrayal and redemption, and met new allies and foes. And the VILLAINS - of which we have many now - all I can say is…wow!

When do we get the next one?!

Whispers of Rage completely pulled me back into this world from the very first chapter. The mix of romance, political tension, found family, secrets, betrayal, and adventure had me hooked the entire time.
This book honestly felt bigger and more emotional than book 1. There were multiple moments where I had to stop and just process what happened because the twists kept coming. I also loved getting to see more of the fae world and the different character dynamics develop.
The emotional tension in this book was SO good. Some characters had me screaming, some had me softening toward them when I didn’t expect to, and by the end I genuinely didn’t know who I trusted anymore 🤣
And that ending??😩 Absolutely criminal. I’m already suffering waiting for book 3.
If you love romantasy with emotional damage, soulmate bonds, political intrigue, tension, adventure, and characters that feel messy and real, I definitely recommend this series.

This felt like a mix of Avatar (not the air bender, lmao) , Star Wars, and historical elements, probably because of the clan dynamics and even the MMC’s way of speaking at times.

The moment we learn that Kade manipulated Alasia’s emotions is where he completely fell out of my good graces. After that, I just couldn’t see him as a good match for the FMC anymore (I thought she had better chemistry with him in book 1).

I did find myself warming up to Keanyn in Book 2, though. By the end, I still feel like the FMC could use a bit more development.

I really liked the ending, but I’m still unsure whether I’ll pick up Book 3.
