Welcome back to the world of ARS, a land where rats dance to the music, a place where someone who has been burned by love can find a second chance. This is the second volume in the adventures of Scott and Rhea. New characters are introduced, and lots of action and humor are present. In this volume Scott and Rhea are separated for a time due to her need to do girl elf stuff. The sorcerer, impatient to become stronger, makes a foolish decision and is forced to deal with the outcome. The somewhat odd nature of the elf maiden Rhea is explained and more of everything that made the first volume good, returns! Come, witness the spectacle! This series is part of a group of stories that feature a similar main character who lives their life inside a game setting. As such, the name 'Scott', will feature in several different series. Currently two of those stories are published. One is Origin ARS, and the other is Freelance Saga. The latter story has a bit of... monster girl related naughtiness... and is not suitable for all ages.
I read some of the authors other works and really liked them, but for some reason I was hesitant in reading this series. Once I started I couldn’t stop. The writing and story are pretty great, the characters are good, and although it is great fun and references a number of tropes, it does not fall into any. There was a time or two when I was getting a little nervous and angry because I thought the characters were going to act stupid, like they do in many books in the genre, but they didn’t. It was such a huge relief, and a character in the book actually calls out how the idea would be extremely stupid. I am just really enjoying these books!!
Book 2 fills out from book 1 in even more interesting and hilarious ways, and begins solidly shaping the series into its anime nature. Again in many ways similar to “American Kitsune” (or even “Ah! My Goddess!”) this series employs humor, romance, action and drama to excellent and delightful effect. Add in in a very good story with very good editing, and you get something really special. If you’re a fan of anime and LitRPG then you need to read this series. Recommended.
Even though this series has very short page counts, there is a great deal packed into each installment. Enough that for the first time, it doesn’t mean a max of four stars. The first book was good enough that I skipped reviewing so I could immediately find and start reading book two. The MC is interesting, the others in the story have life, and even bit characters seem to have an actual presence. That is very rare IMO, and glad that I stumbled upon this.
It was entertaining but it didn't surpass the first book or fix the issues that were there. Writing seemed meandering at times and there were too many unnecessary descriptions, things that already described were being talked about again like they were mentioned for the first time. There were some other issues as well. Not sure when but I still might read the rest of the series or I might just give up on it.
better than the first one, but the dialogues are still bad, i skip a lot of them, i think i read this because i like the mc and the fights and its funny or i just have too much time(i am currently on vacations) and am too bored to care. hence, i will read book three.
