Five Brides–One Dress

Kate Winton-Jones is marrying one of America’s most eligible bachelors. Edward Carnarvon III is rich, handsome and hers. But at the final fitting of her wedding gown, one of the seamstresses pricks her and a tiny blood spot appears on the outrageously expensive gown. Its famous designer fires the clumsy seamstress on the spot, whereupon the girl puts a curse on the dress and storms out. Kate doesn't believe in curses. She’s modern, American and in love with the perfect guy. What could go wrong?

But that very evening she meets a man who makes her question her future. And then she discovers that Edward has been hiding a secret or two… and before you can say, “This dress is so cursed,” she’s on the run from Edward, his family, her mother, the paparazzi and the person she thought she was.

When the man who discovers her hiding place turns out to be the last man she should trust, it’s time to throw her cautious good sense out with the satin shoes she won’t be wearing. Playing it safe hasn’t done her much good. Maybe it’s time to play by a new set of rules. Her rules.

Sometimes Prince Charming is the one who turns out to be the frog, and true love appears in the most unexpected places.

Follow the cursed dress through five sets of bridal hands as four more women join The Almost Wives Club.

This is the first part of a series of five books following brides to be who choose a cursed dress.

In the first book the designer fires the seamstress whilst she is fitting the dress on Kate. The seamstress curses the dress and storms out. Kate is marrying Ted in a huge Society wedding and she's going to make the perfect bride. But after being deserted in the middle of a meal together she finds out some information that makes her wonder whether she should be marrying. She escapes to a coastal town and starts teaching surfing which is what makes her really happy. But will she and Ted reconcile?

I initially thought the fives stories were going to be in this book- so I will be keen to look out for the next book in the series to see what fate befalls the next bride.

Many thanks to Ambleside Publishing and Net Galley for the chance to read this lovely book.

I started reading Ms Warren's paranormal cozy mysteries, but I unfortunately am up to date on that series(Vampire Knitting Club series, AMAZING), so i decided to try more of her work. I am so happy that I did!

This is the 1st book in a 5 book series, a romantic comedy, about a seemingly cursed wedding dress. The series starts with Kate who is at a dress fitting for her wedding gown. She's not feeling as a bride should, but she keeps telling herself that's just the stress of work and a big society wedding. She keeps telling herself that when she meets her fiance for dinner, when ted leaves her for a business meeting, and when a guy hits on her after her prospective groom leaves. She decides to just go to Ted's home to talk it out with him. She has the surprise of a lifetime when she sees the guy she left at the restaurant deliver a report to her fiance, his parents and her mom about how faithful she is to Ted. Things blow up from there and a lovely story emerges.

I liked how Kate got the courage to do the hard thing and the good thing for her. She didn't let herself be beaten down and she staid true to herself. Kate took time for herself and to figure out her next move, I enjoyed seeing her recognize her mistakes and being strong in her convictions.

The hero ended up being the PI guy sent to spy on her. I didn't expect that twist at all! Nick's a stand-up guy that decided to do an old collage roommate a favor, and that favor ended up being the best thing that happened to him. I loved his charm and that he was the first one to recognize his feelings and that he gave Kate time to come to terms with hers.

This was a fun read and I am so very invested now to see what happens to the dress!

This is the story that starts it all .... The wedding dress designer fires the seamstress in the middle of a fitting so the seamstress curses the dress and storms out! And so begins ... The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants meet ... your wedding dress :) lol

What a fantastic concept. A cursed wedding dress, but is it reeeeeally?

This is the story of Kate Winton-Jones and Edward Carnarvon III or maybe not ...

OK, so the story goes like this ... Kate is set to marry Edward until she finds out that not only does she have to sign a prenup, but she has to pass a fidelity test. I know every one of ya'll is wondering how the heck you pass one of those, right? Well, you hire someone to seduce Kate and see what happens. That's how! LOL Cue .....handsome stranger, Nick. So Kate basically breaks when she finds out what she must endure. OH NO, she doesn't know about the 'stranger', she just knows about the scheme...so she walks away from everything to have herself a little adventure. And handsome stranger follows .... so is Kate's HEA with Edward or with Nick? You're gonna have to read this fantabulously fun story and let me know!

Nancy Warren has always been a favorite of mine. She has a way of writing that make her stories fun, relatable and believable. There's always an element of sexy and it's very easy to connect with her characters.

I had a GREAT time reading this story and I look forward to enjoying more of the 'cursed wedding dress' :)

If you're wanting feelings from a book that leave you all warm and fuzzy then this book fits that bill perfectly. I give this read a good solid 4.5 stars.

It's actually really refreshing nowadays to read a book that doesn't include a multitude of sex, language and innuendo but delivers a great romance that is written very engagingly without it being targetted for the over 18's. Don't get me wrong, it's not virginal tame but it's not graphically erotic too, there's nipples and condoms and that's about it.

It also contains some very engaging characters. There are some right asswipes that you want to deck pretty much immediately and some you want to high five.

I also like the story and how it was delivered. I wonder at how many readers follow Kate to Ted's that night and think the exact same thing as me. Bravo Nancy that was soooo well written!

I suppose with this book though, that even though the end result is expected, the story getting to it is unexpected in some of the turn of events so it's a bit of a mix of both. And I certainly enjoyed that.

I'm glad I read The Almost Wives Club, I received it in return for an honest review. My reviews are my own and are 100% honest.

2.5-3 stars

I liked it because
-it made me feel relaxed(surfing all the time with a hot guy: good job Kate!)
-it was a good love story
-Kate was a strong woman, able to kick off her ring to her future husband's cheek after discovering that he assumed a detective to test her loyalty. After that, she decided to take a break in order to discover whom she wanted to be and not what others wanted her to be.
-there was Nick (*swoon*)who after apologized to her for...(not spoilers) finally won her heart.
Even if, Kate how could you trust him so quickly after knowing what he did?personally now way!

ps: really kate?how can you be so kind toward your cheating ex?I would really be pissed off....Ah, sure you have Nick!!

There's nothing not chic-lit about this book, but it doesn't quite go into full sex romance novel territory. If you're looking for a light fun read, it's absolutely adorable.

It was nice but I felt that Nick got off too easy with his deceit and played the victim to the extremes when she didn't return his feelings. That wasn't fair. He apologized and tracked her down for his own selfish needs without really understanding how low he went in participating in the test for Kate. He made a mistake and she pretty much let it go, she doesn't return his declaration of love and suddenly she's this terrible, weak, and selfish woman. How is that right? It's not. She broke her engagement which is what he told her she was better off doing than marrying him, left town to do some thinking on her own without outside interference, realized her mistake in saying yes to Ted's proposal, found her happiness again, and wanted to have some fun before going home to deal with all the drama. What was wrong with that? She was the one wronged and hurt to the point where she felt her only way out was to run away and find herself, she made it known that she wasn't going to marry Ted so that was on his family and her mother to deal with since they were the ones who lied to her. Nick was a part of that and he apparently forgot that fact along the way. He had no right going off on her the way he did, because she wasn't ready to jump into another relationship with a man she'd been betrayed by once and only known for some amount of days. He had no right to be playing the victim card because he got his feelings hurt.

I hate that Kate didn't stand up for herself with him and call him out on his crap. What he did was crappy and wrong, what she did was understandable and smart. I only wish she had a backbone and had put him in his place. I disagree with her going to find him when he should have been the one going to her and realizing how stupid he was both in the beginning and the end. Had he shown real remorse for what he did I could have got on board with the story, but his apology and reasoning of why he did it was a joke, he himself turned it into a joke and didn't take it seriously. I liked Kate but felt that she needed to be harder and not as much of a pushover. Nick gets no sympathy from me.

The story was ok but nothing special and didn't really hold my interest because of Nick. I will read the rest and hopefully the rest of the guys in future books are nothing like that jerk. I can only handle so much of men like him...

Another knock out romance Written by Nancy Warren.

Kate has a good heart, she works as fundraiser for an outreach program for girls and is engaged to Ted Camarvon. They plan to wed in three weeks and the majority of the decisions, about the wedding have been made by her mother and future mother in law. Kate has lost weight due to the stress of the wedding and has to get the dress altered to fit correctly. At the fitting, an assistant accidentally bleeds onto the couture gown, is fired from her job, and curses the gown. Next Kate is fired from her job and is left a restaurant by Ted, after which she meets Nick, with whom she has an instant connection. This sequence of events, coupled with Ted poor treatment of his fiance, by allowing his father a private investigator, Nick, to try to seduce her, causes her to call off the wedding. She flees the city and begins a journey to rediscover herself. Kate ends up on the beach, then finds an apartment, a way to bring in cash and is beginning to realize that she is in charge of her destiny. After a few weeks, Nick finds her and they start to slowly work their way towards a happy ending.

I am a huge fan of Nancy Warren, because she has a masterful skill in writing interesting characters, fun dialogue, and realistic settings. I really connected with Kate and cheered as she grew from a push over to a master of her own destiny. I would recommend this book to fans of chick lit and contemporary romance.

Very readable with decent writing. Interesting main character gets walked on, yet doesn't come across as unsympathetically weak. The plot was standard. Not crazy about the love interest; he seemed shallow. The setting was detailed and fun. Interesting set up for the series. Not what I would consider a clean read because of the loose sex, some detailed descriptions, and a few curse words, but not gratuitously graphic. Definitely rooted for the mc. Was annoyed by a slightly unbelievable twist in the resolution, seemed like an attempt to redeem all the "bad" characters. Billed as a romantic comedy, but pretty light on the comedy.

My first Warren read was I believe, her first book. A steamy romance featuring a hot FBI neighbour that all these many many romances later, I still remember and love. Coincidentally, I met Warren and upon hearing she wrote romance mentioned this book to her, not realizing it was hers. From there I followed her through hot hockey players to the wacky inhabitants of a B&B. Warren has wit and steam and I found this new book to be a sweet fast read. Exactly what I was in the mood for.

I am just loving this book so far. This book is the first book in a new five part series. A curse is put on the wedding dress that Kate is wearing for her wedding. Her life starts to fall apart. She goes off and tries to find the Happy Kate and not the stressful one she has turned into. There is never a dull moment in this book. It is full of surprises. I really hated to see it end but I am looking forward to the next book.

delightful read with some nice twists

I liked the main characters even the obnoxious ones. They were delightfully obnoxious. This is nice romcom. A tad of some explicit sex which keeps it from being clean. Part of the end was surprising.

This is a book I’ve had too long on my TBR pile. I am so glad I pulled it out. It was a fun fast paced and funny read. The characters are interesting and current.
This is a country club couple that is engaged to be married. Edward (Ted) to Kate is tall, over six feet with blue eyes. He works for his father as a junior partner of the family business ever since getting his MBA from Harvard.
Kate came from family money but her mother has it not her. She works as a full-time fundraiser for an after-school program for at-risk girls. Her mom hates her working there she doesn’t think it is glamorous or high paying enough. But Kate really thinks it is important and believes in it.
Now she and Ted are about three weeks away from their wedding she goes for her last fitting and the designer fires one of the seamstresses on the stop for getting a blood spot on the dress. Mind you she was rushing the poor thing. Well, before the girl leaves, she turns to those in the room yelling at the designer and curses the dress, the designer, and the business.
The day only gets worse for Kate because then she has the sign a prenup Ted had not told her about. She is gets left by Ted on a Friday night in the middle of the trendiest restaurants in L.A. so he could go to an emergency meeting. When she says she’ll go with, he tells her to stop being so needy.
After she leaves, she is reminded he had not been very talkative like normal, he had been antsy and curt. When she had been sitting looking around earlier, she had seen a man who looked like he had been stood up. She wondered how that must feel she felt bad for him. Especially, a man so handsome and rugged.
Little did she know that when Ted left that man would come and join her. Being as polite as she was raised, she couldn’t make a scene so she let him. She didn’t leave the table either. Because right at that moment Ted’s food was now being served to this man. So, this man starts to enjoy it and asks for a fresh wine glass. He also introduces himself as Nick.
They talk and at every chance, she shared that she was engaged to be married soon. When Nick said he would have never run out on her or at the very least if he had to, he would have taken her with him. She was pondering his statement but she never once all-night bad-mouthed Ted.
When things got too personal, she stood abruptly and said goodbye. Nick followed her out. Giving her his card and telling her not to marry her guy. You don’t love him. Call me if you ever need me at any time. Talk to Ted tell him how you really feel. She calls herself a cab and starts for home. When she keeps hearing the words playing back that Nick said, “Talk to Ted.”
So, she changes taxi routes and goes to Ted’s parents Cabana where Ted was staying till the wedding. As she is walking up she hears voices. She thinks wow the meeting got over quick. She’s in the shadows looking in the big bay window when she sees Ted serving his parents drinks and then her mother. Now she is puzzled.
But then she hears Ted’s dad ask, “So How did she do?” Then she hears and sees someone that she wished she hadn’t. Nick, “She passed with flying colors. You found a winner, Ted. She is not a cheater she is true blue. And I tried. She’s as loyal as they come.”
Then she sees Ted’s dad hand, Nick, a check. Then he says he has to leave he has another big case. He leaves but he doesn’t see her in the shadows. She barges into the cabana and throws the ring at Ted and tells them all the wedding is off.
See what happens from here. There is an uproar because they have over three hundred guests coming. The embarrassment of it all. Now the bride is AWOL.
I give this: 5 stars. Provided by netgalley.com.

Resenha do blog Mademoiselle Loves Books

📚 A HISTÓRIA⠀

📚 VALE A PENA LER?⠀

A sinopse de "Quase Noiva" me conquistou imediatamente.

"Ted, a família dela, coletivamente, a traíram.

This is my first book by Nancy Warren and I don't think it will be my last.

Thoroughly enjoyable, Kate is preparing to marry Ted in the society wedding of the year but its not her wedding; her dress, the cake, the venue, the food has all been carefully chosen but not once has she the bride been consulted, she just stood on the periphery watching it all unfold.

Her insecurity is further troubled when Ted abandons her in a restaurant and a complete stranger attempts to flirt, even following her down the road.

Later she discovers it was all a set up as her new in-laws wanted to test her level of fidelity, Kate lobs her rock of an engagement ring at Ted's head and walks out telling him the wedding is off.

Distancing herself seems to be the best thing, she swaps her car with her friend and takes off down the coast ending up in Carlsbad where she rediscovers her love of surfing.

Meanwhile Nick, who was the man who interrupted her dinner turns out to be a PI and a player but Nick cannot forget Kate and when he finds out she has vanished he tracks her down.

But Kate still has a wedding looming, she hasn't cancelled anything, but has expected her mother to handle it all. As Nick points out before walking away she hasn't even told her friends that the wedding is off.

The classic story of woman engaged to wrong man. The rich and pompous father wants to test her to make sure she will be faithful. He hires a PI to trip her up. She doesn't but then she finds out, all hell breaks loose. Suddenly, she breaks off the engagement, runs away, and hides away in a beach to "lick her wounds and find herself". Oh, but hey, who finds her? that's right the PI, who by the way each of them felt a connection to each other. Yes, they fall in love. The title is a bit deceiving. I thought it was going to be a story about various people being ditched at the alter by the same groom banding together for pay back. The story was a good story. It was a quick read for me and I don't think it was a memorable love story but that is just me. There is nothing wrong with the writing or the story. I will read the other books in the series.

Cute romance

Kate is soon to marry Ted, a wealthy heir. She is polite and practical and believes herself in love, but wedding jitters are taking their toll. At her final fitting, the seamstress pokes straight through her wedding dress, drawing blood. Chaos ensues and now Kate's dress is cursed, literally by said seamstress. Though she laughs it off, things seem to be going downhill, like a snowball gaining speed down a wintery slope. Kate is faced with a new perspective on life and love as she tries to figure out what she wants.

The novel is cute, with a strong female lead, if a bit cliche. Certainly there is romance and a touch of adventure, with a be true to yourself moral. Overall I thought the writing was average with decent character development for the leads.

Almost wives Club

Omg omg omg I loved this story. Nick and Kate. Delightful. Loved their banter and their chemistry. He was perfect for her. His vulnerability was so sexy and charming and omg sweet. I loved him. The whole story was just swoon worthy. Ted was a schmuck. He and Marlene were better suited. I hated her overbearing mom and Teds parents. She would have been smothered by their stuffiness. I’m so glad she went to find herself and do what made her happy and Nick the hottie made her happy. A well written feel good story that made me smile. Great dialogue, well written characters, a great plot. Thank you.

This was a new author for me. The book was well written in third person with dual POV. In the beginning Kate is kind of a doormat who does what everyone tells her. I love when she starts to think for herself, demand what she deserves, and go after what she wants. Her growth through the book was good to see. Nick was a likable hero and I loved that he could already see that Kate was more than everyone expected her to be. Heat level on this book is around a 2.5-3. I liked the premise of the dress playing as role in the failure and success of the couples.

I’m finding that my ratings of books have a lot to do with my expectations. I’ve given fewer stars for books considered classics or ones critically acclaimed.

I wanted this to be a quick, light read, and that’s exactly what I got. Some of the descriptions were cringeworthy (like “His voice was a low rolling wave that spoke to her innermost mermaid self.”), and it was completely predictable, but I wasn’t looking for a literary masterpiece here. I finished it in a couple hours and was happy with the story.

I discovered Ms. Warren through reading her entertaining “Vampire Knitting Club” series. After joining her email distribution list, I received several free romance ebooks from her. While this is not my preferred genre, Ms. Warren is an interesting writer and anyone who likes adult-themed romance novels would enjoy reading about a woman deciding who she is as she discovers who those around her are also.
It was my pleasure to receive this free ebook from the author and give my honest review.

Ok I love Nancy Warren's books so this was a real treat. 5 beautifully written, fun romances all in one place. Each book is a stand-alone story with a few connections, the main one being the wedding dress, which was perfect for me as cliff hangers in stories tend to bother me.

This series was a gift that I absolutely loved and would recommend to anyone wanting a little romance and a great giggle. Definitely a great gift option in my opinion!
