Isaac Watts was an English hymn writer as well as a philosopher, theologian, and pastor. With possibly as many as 750 hymns to his name, he has been called the father of English hymnody. But his published works, in addition to three volumes of sermons, included books on grammar, pedagogy, logic, ethics, psychology, astronomy, and geography. His Logic became the standard text on logic at Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, and Yale for nearly a century thereafter.
