This was informative in a way I was not expecting. I am already highly emotionally intelligent after years of practice and hard work but there was a section on hormones I found absolutely fascinating. It also brought a new perspective on interacting with those of low EQ.

This book is a compilation of all emotional intelligence learning that you could have at hand. The author is using an easy-to-read-and-understand teaching dialog that makes your learning flowless starting at the "Introduction". I have now a sense of what is emotional intelligence, how is it composed, how could I be aware of my feelings and most important: to keep control of them and help others to recover control. The situation is that I know how but need to practice and start doing it now. For instance, I would not discuss anything if I'm hungry; my wife always feeds me at night (dinner) and makes sure I'm satisfied before starting to talk about a difficult situation. Also, she did the same to my daughters after picking them up from school, just before talking about how was the day - she did offer to them a Tupperware with vegetables. How smart is she!. In chapter 7 you can see and understand why.
While I was reading this book on the last weekend (feb2nd'20) I got several chances to continue to be the normal-caveman at home when somethings are not done or are not ready as expected to be, however, I applied what I was learning - it was difficult - but initially I realize I was losing my patience and calm, I avoided to claim and initiated with questions about why the expectation was missing. Incredibly my counterpart and I started a dialog and everything became more friendly than before once I understood her point of view. We agreed on the next steps and continue been ready for the rest of the day...
The author has added in this book some chapters to review your situation in different areas of scope like "the workplace", "at home" and includes drainers that could affect you without noticing it. Also, you can find a Test that would give you a level of EQ and a recipe to improve in 10 days. All these tools will help you start controlling your emotions and help others.
The book is not doing it all for us. Keep in mind that you need to PRACTICE and then after PRACTICE. Make it a habit!
Good luck with your EQ growth.

Author with No Intellectual Rights Integrity

I started reading this book and found out it’s a paraphrase, re-mashed, remixed, cherry-picked and sometime copy-paste version of the French author, Thibaut Meurisse’s book called “ How To Master Your Emotion”.

We all know that you can’t write any new idea in the world because at least someone has already written it before.

But this Author took entirely copied the first 40% of her book from the book I just read. I am going to write down a few things that she copied,
1. Saber-tooth roger example on mentioning about my primal instinct fight or flight mood.

2. Abraham Lincoln’s divorce

3. The methods about interpretation, identifying and repeating

4. A farmer goes on a Pinic. And so many more

That’s first 40% of the book and then the book become almost a cookbook because the hormones definitions, deficiencies, benefits that made up about 20%

And lastly, the remaining 40% isn’t that bad but I lost my impression because I highly doubt that she didn’t copy from other authors’ work. So I just skimmed through what she actually wrote and I don’t want to encounter original books in the future. I will save to read original materials.

And the worst she didn’t even include bibliography and she just wrote it it was her own ideas.

I reached out to the French author. I hope she get sued. Bye, I won’t recommend anyone to read any of her books.

A book I recommend you to discover or improve your Emotional Intelligence and Social Skills that are needed in this new decade.

I highly recommend the book Emotional Intelligence by Judy Dyer.
I was curious to know more about the aspects and the importance of Emotional Intelligence.
I am very pleased to tell you that my expectations are more than fulfilled.
Judy describes the subject in a fluent way and makes you continue to read the book and step by step you get to know more about Emotional Intelligence.
She stated clearly what the role is of our emotions and the link to our thoughts. We must make sure that our thoughts stay focused on what we want in the future. What is also surprising is that we must be aware that our thoughts don't exist in the present moment, they are either in the past or the future.Judy explains clearly the importance of the hormones, that what we eat and think has an impact on our emotions.
The book also contains an EQ test which gives a good indication on your personal level of Emotional Intelligence.
The most practical and interesting part of this inspiring book is the 10 Day Challenge , a step by step guide to improve your Emotional Intelligence.
To conclude, if I made you curious too, I suggest you to read this book.

Good Intro or Refresher with Action Plan

After the groundbreaking and popular book of the same name came out a couple of decades ago, the term emotional intelligence resurfaces now and then. I like this book's approach to the topic. The author first explores what it is, what emotions are, and what affects them. She even gave some discussion to the chemical and physiological backbone that is a part of emotion. Later chapters include a specific look at the topic in regard to the home and the workplace. But what I think makes this book particularly good is the last two chapters. The first is a quiz for you to assess your emotional intelligence. I could say I did well on some and not so well on the others! But she follows this up with a 10-day challenge so that you can improve your emotional intelligence. The book is easy to read and written in a conversational tone, even when she is digging into the more scientific aspects of it all. If you'd like a nice introduction to the topic, or a refresher course, and would appreciate an action plan as well as the background of the topic, this book may very well fill the bill for you.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I found the book simple to read and I loved that, and by that I mean that it is well written using a language easily accessible to everyone curious to know more about emotional intelligence. I love simplicity in books mixed with the ability to come to the concepts in a clear manner. This book has given me the chance to get to know more about this vital aspect of human beings, so much unknown to most people. I have also had the opportunity to ask myself some questions that will help me clear out some issues of mine. I do not agree with everything that has been told, but that’s part of the game I guess, especially when you read a book that talks about topics that relate with feelings, emotions, with the untouchable and invisible part of us, which most probably is our essence, our core and the root from where everything starts and ends, but still they cannot be regarded as universal truths, they can help you to create your own though that will guide you to a more authentic way of living.
Ps: I am Italian, English is not my first language, I apologize for any mistakes you may find.

It's easy to assume that we may know what emotional intelligence is all about, but Judy Dyer gives a complete view of it and how we benefit from developing our emotional intelligence. When we see emotions as just something inside of us, we miss out on how they impact what we do and say and how we treat others. This book covers that aspect from several angles. Also, there's a great reminder how our bodies and minds are connected. So, our emotions can be impacted by how our bodies are doing - such as sleep, movement, etc.
This is a practical guide providing pointers for how emotional intelligence is helpful in the workplace and at home. I found the 10 day challenge to improve emotional intelligence to be helpful as well.

This reads like a mini-encyclopedia of "things that have to do with intelligence": It hits several topics, but lacks enough depth in any of them for the reader to get more than a basic understanding of "what," rather than the title-promised "how." Actual guidance in improving one's EQ is mainly stuffed into the last 20% of the book, the rest of the book discussing all kinds of reasons EQ would be useful while being tantalizingly shallow about what exactly needs to be done to improve in a given area. (For example, the book mentions four specific social skills significant for EQ, but then jumps on to the next subject without bothering to discuss how these skills might be improved.)

Contained solid and practical tools on building your emotional intelligence. Nothing necessarily groundbreaking, but Ms. Dyer has thoroughly and succinctly presented various strategies to increase your emotional intelligence. At the foundation of those strategies, the author urges us to examine the origins of our thoughts and our self talk which ultimately create or feed our emotions both good and bad. Possible *Spoiler* The Emotional intelligence test near the end of the book gets the reader focused in on their specific emotional vulnerabilities and is added value I feel. Give it a read, Ms. Dyer presents the reader with emotional tools you can employ while in the middle of reading as well as after you’ve completed reading it.

I found this book to be very useful with great insights. EQ is such an important quality to have. It helped me reflect on a time when I didn't have EQ but I learnt it through therapy and psychoeducation over a long period of time. I like the workbook bit at the end and fully intend to work through that, just haven't had time before doing this review. I like the way the information is laid out in such an informative way and how to deal with people who don't have EQ. Valuable book for everybody whatever you are dealing with.

Emotional Intelligence is the perfect title. The book encompasses how people process everyday interactions with others and how to view it without added negative energy to the situation. Everyone will reap the benefits of a more positive outlook by using the practices taught in this book. They way the author explains the subject and breaks down situations makes it easy to comprehend and put into use. Some content I had learned about previously, but it served as a very helpful refresher. I am grateful for the knowledge and inspiration after reading this book.

Although I did find some of the material covered in this book very enlightening and new to me , obviously with a subject such as this there are quite possibly going to be things that you may have read or have been covered previously which was the case for me.
However all that aside it’s still a very worthwhile read offering a lot of insights into the correlation between EQ, relationships and how your social skills can be impacted by many different variables.

If you’re looking to work on relationships, social skills and just generally have a better understanding of how and what EQ is then have a read .

Judy Dyer has done a great job writing about emotional intelligence. I think it is a very important subject and have read other books about emotional intelligence. It is something I want to promote in my family. There is a great need in our society for people to interact with more empathy. Judy has included a lot of research on the subject. I especially liked her last chapter about the 10-day challenge to develop more emotional intelligence. Thank goodness, it is a characteristic that we can improve!

Not a very long book, but full of important information especially for anyone just starting out on their journey toward increasing emotional intelligence & eventual self mastery.

The EQ test & results toward the end of the book are quite useful for self-evaluation purposes, & the exercises are a big help as well.

Over all, a good guide to get you on the road toward achieving greater emotional intelligence.

This was probably one of the best books I've read. Very easy read and easy to understand. Very descriptive and well written. I liked the exercises at the end that teach you how to stop and control your emotions. I loved this book. I really wanted to purchase a hard copy but I cannot find it anywhere, the version I had was a friend's so I will need to return it. Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who is working on themselves and is in the process of or wants to grow and be a better human. A great start for anyone learning to recognize their emotions and ways to deal with them.

This book is a very good read. It contains many ways of not only spotting different emotional levels of maturity, but also how to put that knowledge to good use. The author also included good advice on how to improve your emotional intelligence, and deal with people who haven’t. I especially loved the dietary advice. I’m hooked on Judy Dyer!

I appreciate Dyer's point that emotions are temporary, they don't define us, and we shouldn't expect to always have positive emotions. Negative emotions can propel us to action, they signify that we need to change, just as physical pain alerts us something is wrong so we seek help such as a doctor's visit. We can take care of ourselves in a number of ways including being a better friend, active listening, reducing foods that mess with hormones which disrupt mood (and adding foods that assist in producing the good hormones), increasing exercise, calming our minds and reducing stress with meditation and being more present, and getting better sleep (just to name a few of the many things that were recommended). There are some good tips on journaling activities that I plan to implement.
