The big beautiful world. But who is the world for? Is it a world for us? When Little Mouse ventures out of his nest for the very first time, he just can't believe his eyes. There are so many incredible sights and sounds! But what is this amazing place, he wonders, and who is it for? A tender celebration of the wonderful world around us.
This is a great story that gives children the perspective of how beautiful our world is. I also love the detailed and colorful illustrations in this book that show how pretty nature is.
This book had an overall theme of sharing and friends. The main character in the book is a mouse. He wonders out into the world and realizes that there is so much outside for the world to share. I think this story is really cute and has a good message behind it. I will definitely have this book in my classroom. It teaches the lesson of sharing and the positive outcomes it can have.
Illustrated by: Daniel Howarth Lobel, G. (2007). For everyone to share. London: Gullane Children’s Books. Summary: Little Mouse leaves the nest for the first time to discover the world! He goes outside and finds a bee and asks his name. Then the bee also answers his questions about what a flower is and the sun and bright blue sky. Later, he meets a butterfly and she shows him the birds, daisies, grass, and spiders. His mom finds him and he asks what the place is. She tells him it is the world. He asks who is it for and she says it is for everyone to share. This is such a cute story with great illustrations. This story would be great for preschoolers, especially the younger ones. It talks about discovering what is around them and giving names to each new thing we find. It is also good to use when talking about Earth and how it is our home. Since it is ours to share, we need to take care of it.
This book was simple but SO cute! This book would be ideal for a lesson on appreciating the world around us. When I first began reading this book, I immediately thought it'd be a good read for an ELL. It began with different things being labeled and explained to the little mouse. The cute part about it was the mouse's genuine excitement to be learning about all of these different things. It was a great pick-me-up and helped to remind me that I should be just as excited to learn new things!
This book is great to use to just remind students how beautiful the world around us is and that we should treasure it. This could lead into so many different lessons such as exploring outside the classroom and seeing the beautiful things you can find or how different animals grow and change over time. It could also be used as an opener when talking about how we can do our part to keep the world as beautiful as it us now by recycling and not polluting the earth.
