What a story !!!

A romance that grows slowly and blossoms into one that is real and believable, all the while its suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat, turning the pages at a crazy speed. Until your are left bawling on the floor, wanting more of the characters who have just caused you an emotional havoc.

Michael is an army veteran who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Now, who doesn't love a man in uniform? Seriously!! Battling all his demons, he has no time for a relationship, let alone, even fantasize about it. Dealing with nightmares, phobias and memories of the past is all he knows.

Sarah, a country girl from the South who has ventured into the big city, searching for love and determined to accomplish her dreams of becoming a psychologist. Little did she know, she'd have to face a few nightmares of her own before accomplishing her goals. For those who like a smart, strong and determined heroine, that's is exactly what you'll get with Sarah. She is a woman that stands tall against all the craziness thrown her way. Two-thumbs up for her bravery and cheers to her patience with everything she endures.

BRING THESE TWO TOGETHER, AND I WAS LIKE:

I can't say much without giving away the story, but what I can say is that this isn't the typical one where the hero sweeps the girl off her feet and saves the day by giving her mind-blowing orgasms. No!! In this book, we experience a series of emotions - angst, heartbreak, happiness, excitement, nervousness, love and hate. All of that, while going through a ride down the road of Sarah and Michael's love story. The author did a great job describing detail that took place in each scene. I'm sure she also did a whole lot of research to give us all the facts enclosed in this story. Amazing writing. Beautiful story. I recommend this book to anyone that wants to fall in love with a sexy hero who will protect what he loves at all cost. One who will have you swooning and asking your man why he can't be the same as Michael.

**Find Me in Manhattan generously provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**

This story was my first by Shealy James. The cover and blurb on Netgalley intrigued me so I thought I'd take a chance on something new. I'm not disappointed that I did but the book turned out just okay for me.

The writing easily took me along for the ride of Michael Pearson and Sarah Grant as Find Me in Manhattan tells the story from both of their points of view. Progressing through the story I always found the plot intriguing in how it set up the main characters and built camaraderie between each of them and friends. The love story between the two went very slow for me. The couple doesn't even really speak to each other until pretty far into the book then a friendship is explored before mutual feelings are discussed.

I didn't like a particular aspect of the book regarding Sarah being examined so intensely in the beginning. I liked that she had something to be fearful of and how it set up Michael up as her self-proclaimed protector but I thought it should have been as more of an after thought. Sarah was much too dismissive in her stand to protect
herself.

This author treats the important issue of PTSD with great delicacy in this book. Those aspects of this story and of Michael's journey I found to be top notch. There was no doubt she has an intimate knowledge of the circumstances soldiers face when they return from war and I very much appreciated her writing of this issue.

The ending didn't provide me a lot of satisfaction either. The resolution of the conflict was quite drawn out and the ending much too abrupt. I'm not all together disappointed I read this book, I just didn't love it.

Sarah is a Southern Belle who knows what she wants and is willing to work hard to get it. And that puts her in the position of dealing with all kinds of men with all kinds of secrets. And some of those secrets just happen to be deadly. Michael is a good guy who can't help but be a hero. Especially when it means he gets to rescue a beautiful blonde who sees him for who he is, and does not think less of him for it. Together they grow as friends, as well as individuals. But can Sarah see that she deserves better than what she has been allowing for her life? Even more, can Michael ever believe that he is exactly what Sarah deserves before it is too late?

Find Me in Manhattan is a book for everyone! Shealy James gives readers a story that has a little bit of everything: drama, mystery, romance, and comedy. The ending is tied up nicely, but I can't help but want a second book to see where the characters go.

Find me In Manhattan by Shealy James

Where to start with this love story, the above synopsis says it all, it is beautiful but it isn’t easy and of course nothing starts out easy.
Start out with Sarah, a country girl from Alabama, who dreams of getting her graduate degree in psychology, while working on degree, she will be interviewing men and women who had treatment at the VA. She is determined to do the best job, always a top student.
When she first arrives at the graduate housing, she wasn’t happy that she had to carry everything upstairs and of course a good looking guy comes along and helps, wow he seems like the perfect man. They are even going to be doing their graduate stuff together at the VA. Sounds like she has found her dream man, or so she thought.
When she comes out of the office after interviewing the Doctor she is going to be working with, she sees a man… is he real? Wow, it must be a dream, a mirage.

As Michael enters the office of Dr. Wright he sees her, is she real? Wow if must be a dream a mirage. Michael has his own issues suffering with PTSD, and other problems from the war. He saw her but didn’t meet her at this time, but she is his dream girl.
This story is written so well, I could feel for everyone in this story. The characters are well developed and it is just such a fascinating story that it is hard to put down, I didn’t even want the story to end. I loved they way she brought up domestic violence, PTSD and other issues, these are so important and also shows that it can be helped. I felt this story touched on a lot of emotions and shows about the other people involved as well.
If you want to read a great story, and emotional story, a love story, a heartbroken story and more, this is it. I won’t tell you anymore but this book left me feeling positive when it was done.
I was given this book for an honest opinion. I loved this story.

Ever since Sarah was younger she has dreamed of leaving her family farm and heading to Colombia and Manhattan and becoming a Pyschologist. When things on her family's farm aren't looking great, she leaves her on/off again boyfriend Billy and heads back home and defers on graduate school. Now the farm has caught up and she has the chance to head off to Columbia. She finds an apartment in Graduates housing and a great roommate and a cute next door neighbour Jameson who happens to be on the same graduate programme at her and doing his interning at the VA hospital in which Sarah has gotten a spot. The pair start dating and all seems to be going well, that is until he strikes her and she lets the first one go but when it happens again, she dumps him - hoping he will get the message to leave her alone. The thing is though that Jameson doesn't want to let Sarah go and starts going all full-on stalker mode on her and his violent streak starts to escalate. Meanwhile it seems Sarah has also captured the attention of ex-soldier Michael - he is one of her study participants . He is in love with Sarah and wants to protect her but he's not good at relationships at all and keeps pushing Sarah away. This is driving her crazy as she has an ex who won't stay away and the guy she does like can't help but get away fast enough from her. Find Me in Manhattan is not just your usual college fiction New Adult but also a novel where Sarah and Michael actually are shown and proven to grow and that sometimes in order to grow and move on with life, you have to move someone to discover and find yourself and for Sarah and Michael - that somewhere and new place is Manhattan.

If you love Edgy NA and don't mind Domestic Abuse, then check out Shealy James's novel "Find me in Manhattan".

5 Bravery Stars

This book was given to me for my honest review.

Accomplishment a special skill or ability gained by practice or training. However with such word comes a braveness that within each of us we do not know. We go about our everyday lives with such an unquestionable motion that with each task that we have do each day whether it be little or big is just an accomplishment in motion. We do not seek praise or value in any what we do seek is a calmness within ourselves knowing that we have done what we set forth to do. Each breath, step we take, smile, spoken or unspoken word each day is a major accomplishment it itself.

Come take this journey of Sarah and Jameson as I did and be enthralled in this read like no other.

To the author: In thinking about what I was going to write as a reviewer of this most amazing read I cannot write a full review without giving anything in this read away. You wrote about our soldiers about the trauma of one that took my heart to a place like no other. The emotions that this book brought out within me were of sorrow, happiness, fight and love. You will have shown your readers a different kind of spectrum of the trauma that our men and women of the military go through and just try to survive from. With the support of many we are more than Army strong we are Nation strong. Service men and women are the forces that bind no matter where they are, what they have been through. The support we give without reservation is what our nation is built upon for we are Nation strong no matter the heartache or injuries that occur when fighting for our freedom.

To the readers: Please just enjoy this amazing read

Happy Reading

Lana I liked her she was a great friend to Sarah, "I’m sure you do. You all right? You want some ice for your face? Whiskey? A punching bag? What do you Southern girls do when you get pissed besides shoot things?" I liked Michael although he was slow to opening up, once he started to little by little I fell in love with him, "who hasn’t? Have you seen your a**? Shake it like that on the stairs again, and I won’t be held responsible for my actions." There were no naughty bits in the book. I really enjoyed reading it.

This is the third book in the Finding Series, but I will note it stands well on it's own. Shealy James brings us the story of Sarah, she is from a small southern town, she has had to put her dreams on hold to help with her family farm, but things turn around and her parent's are able to send her to New York to go to Graduate School.

She settles into a study involving military veteran's suffering from PTSD. I will say she handled the subject with great compassion and made you hurt and sometimes cheer for the vet's that touched Sarah's life.
When she goes to interview with the Professor heading the study, she sees a man that she thinks is a dream, but doesn't pursue anything, but doesn't forget him either.

Sarah is swept off her feet by Jamison, handsome, debonair, and not at all what he seems (not going to say because it is a major part of the story. Just say that Sergeant Michael Pearson is a real man, a haunted man but a real man!

When given the chance Sarah and Michael blossom and grow. But, the road to forever is not a smooth one. Sarah, has Jamison stalking her and Michael has the nightmares of Afghanistan haunting him.

Ms. James' characters are strong, well defined, and pull you into the story from the first page. If you are looking for hot military guys, strong female characters, romance, and some steam, with a suspense thrown in this is most certainly worth the time. Keep the tissues handy because you might do a bit of ugly ass crying as well.

I was given this book for an honest review.

Such a great story! I loved Sarah and was so glad to see she got her own time to shine. I watched her character grow and develop throughout the Finding series, and finally deal with her own personal struggles while trying to find love in the big city. I enjoyed watching Sarah "find her way" into the heart of a man who is dealing with his own demons. It was full of raw emotion, experienced by both the hero and heroine as they learned more about themselves and each other. A perfect compliment to the other books in the series!

I love the writing and the flow of the book. It doesn’t overwhelm you. I love how shealy James researched her topic and had the emotions, the flashbacks be real. There is realism in how Michael and his friends and other military personnel’s PTSD is portrayed.

For me, Michael is what made this book. Sarah was good but for me it was Michael. His struggles, his desire to be better and his fight was what I loved. How he fought himself and his demons and even after being a idiot he found a way to claw his way out and find himself again and go after what he wanted and that was Sarah.

Sarah is a strong character in her own right but Michael was what made this stronger. The story is one in which the hero tries to protect but upon failing in his mind he pushes away so that no one can get hurt any longer. Upon realizing his world is now stark he fights his way back to Sarah. Sarah on the other hand becomes less of a shell of who she once was. This spunky southern belle goes from spunky, fiesty and bullheaded to having falling erroneously in love with a fruit named Jameson and it is this action that begins to shatter her. She starts to doubt herself and her worth. She is put in danger and Michael is her knight. Her broken knight with PTSD. Together they fight the attraction until they can’t anymore. Michael’s protectiveness and kindness help Sarah to begin to put her pieces back together but she gets scared and her insecurities come into play. Sarah and Michael are written with realism and depth. They are not cookie cutter characters and what they feel you feel. Their emotions thoughts and dreams are laid out there for you.

When sarah does begin to see herself again after gaining perspective tragedy occurs and throws both her and Michael in a tailspin. Him into a very bad spiral and her into despair. Hearts breaking is felt. Michael though claws his way back and we get our HEA after alot of soulseaching on both Sarah and Michaels parts.

The story is real and raw. Emotional and sweet. One that shows what happens when you feel you are a disappointment and a failure only to see in someone’s eyes you are their knight in shining armour and can find your way back from the darkness. A love story that has rough patches but finds light at the end of the tunnel.

When I read the synopsis of Find Me in Manhattan, I was really looking forward to reading this book. Unfortunately, although it was good, it did not live up to my expectations.
This book is written from two points of view, Sarah’s and Michael’s. I liked Sarah from the time I read the Prologue. I loved Michael, too, but he also frustrated me at times. I also liked and hated many of the characters in FMIM. Actually, I hated only one of them.
However, I found that this book had a very slow start. Sarah and Michael didn’t have any interaction until 27% of the way into the book. That annoyed me. Even after that the story took a long time to progress until it reached a climax that really had me flipping over the pages as quickly as I could. I also felt that the conclusion was rushed and ended abruptly.
So, to summarise, I loved Sarah and Michael’s story but I didn’t like the pacing of the story.
I gave Find Me in Manhattan 3 stars.

I received a ARC of, Find me in Manhattan by Shealy James

Sarah's greatest wish is to become a psychologist, she gets accepted to Colombia and moves to Manhattan.

Excerpt, Sarah.....
'Without permission, I fell for Michael, I fell for his rugged exterior and soft heart.
I fell for the complicated man hidden beneath the gorgeous exterior.
I fell for the lost soldier who still wanted to be a hero'...

Michael is a ex soldier who suffers from PTSD, his only relief from his demonds is when he is working on cars or when he's with his army buddys playing poker....until her meets Sarah then he discovers with Sarah in his life, he smiles, laughs and even sleeps better.

BUT....evil unfortunately is lurking....stalking (scarey) poor Sarah and his name is Jameson Carmichael....

This book has everything, suspense, stalking, and a slow burn love affair between sweet Sarah and sexy Sergeant Michael...I loved every minute of this read

The story is slow and never picked up. Michael is a war veteran of which Sarah is counseling. He has PTSD for what he believes is his fault for the deaths fellow comrades while on a mission. Sarah finds herself in a violent relationship and ends it only to have the bf stalk her. Michael steps in to be her protector.
Sarah was an interesting h, she was sassy with a bit of fire. Michael was not interesting (imho), almost like a fire that fizzled. The story has potential (hence 3 stars) however fell short on interest and flow...took me almost a week to finish because I couldn't stay interested.

5 out of 5

This book is filled with heartache, love, suspense, fear, doubt, anger, happiness and best of all this book is so realistic and gripping. I loved every moment of it and I'm so glad it read it. It's one of the books I'd love to read again and again. You connect with the characters and understand them, their pain, their happiness, and even their fear. I wouldn't change a thing about this book, not even the scary stalker ex who.... I can't tell you, you're going to have to read it for yourselves. You will love it. I know I did. I gave this book 5 out of 5. I don't regret it.

This is a nice easy read from start to finish. The characters are likeable, the storyline is interesting and there's the obvious HEA. Michael's issues were hard to read about because it's not just fiction, it's a very real subject that is often dismissed rather than understood. I like Sarah's sass, she's funny and not the usual damsel in distress. The other characters are fun too and I like the dynamic of the group. I would've liked for there to be an epilogue, just for a bit of happiness and closure.

Where to start with this book?? I loved it! This was the life I wanted to have...Well the going out of state to college, not the crazy ex boyfriend part. I loved the banter between Michael and Sarah, the ex getting what he deserves, and the fact that Michael finally realized he needed to get some help. I found the book captivating so it was easy to finish in a few days. *ARC gifted by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
